They got our group in on short notice, were so kind and accommodating, and made us feel completely taken care of. If I could give zero stars I would. A picture the nails i asked for are attached to this review. I specifically asked the lady could she do it and she said yes. I get to the end of the service and I ask about the ombré finish and glitter, and she said "they don't do designs". She lied to me. If I wanted a basic fill in I would have went anywhere. After I got my basic nails done, the lady proceeded to raise her tone when I told her I wasn't paying for something I didn't ask for, and that she wasn't upfront about. My nails look nothing like how I wanted them, and to top it off, she didn't apply oil to my cuticles which is always included in the price of service. Why do I have to ask for a basic service that should be included. Customer service on zero. She lied. My nails are nothing like I asked for. And my cuticles are dry. ZERO STARS. read more

Went here because I couldn't get into my regular salon. Showed up early so I could pick a color. Was moved seats twice and it took 3 people to do my nails. Only the one young girl speaks English, so she was trying to do everyone's nails. They were trying to force me to do a certain style of nails I did not ask for. There was nothing sanitary about this place either. I watched them not clean anything and reuse nail files and foil for a nail soak off and all this other stuff. They need to be inspected for sanitation! Absolutely horrific experience. They need to be shut down. Visited this salon for the first time 2/26/22. Pro...they were able to accommodate our last minute request for two dip manicures. Con...I asked for a color by name (OPI bubble bath). I said I wanted it to be a bit transparent and not so opaque. It was way more pink than I expected. I made a comment before he started that it seemed too pink. He told me no it wasn't. I've only had dip once so I wasn't quite sure if it may go one lighter than it looked. After the first coat, I knew it wasn't what I wanted. Again, I said I thought it was too pink and he just kept saying it's what I asked for. Went ahead with 2nd coat. Not going in right direction. He also aggressively filed my long nails down to the nub. After he did my pinky I had no choice but to continue so they'd be somewhat even. No lotion, no hand massage. On a positive note, he did add a coat of gel funny bunny (upon my request) to offset the pink tone. Will not be returning. One star for fitting us in and one for the nice tech at the next station who tried to smooth things over. read more

Probably one of the worst experiences I have had with pedicures. I called to ask if they could fit me in that day since I didn't have an appointment. They said yes, come in 20 min. I did.... My pedicure was incredibly rushed. She never asked what service I wanted. She was done with my pedicure in 10 min , meaning scrub, filing, cream, massage... my toe nails are so uneven. She then began to say how my color was difficult. Lesson of the day : if you don't have enough time to squeeze in a customer, simply tell them "Sorry I cannot accommodate you today, would you like to make an appointment for another time." I could have gone to another place and had a better experience on my only day off of the week. Never going back. read more

Joy Spa is not your run of the mill nail salon. It is super classy, clean and chic. The decor inside is really modern and the ladies who work here are fantastic. I got an essential mani pedi and it was an excellent deal. They have state of the art massage chairs that knea your back while the nail artists efficiently pedicure your feet. Not to mention their amazing, color coordinated collection of high end nail polishes including essie, OPI and color club. I was really pleased with manicure and my manicurist even recommended a sparkle of glitter on one nail that looks fabulous. It's a hike for me, as I live about 30 minutes away but I may just switch to this salon! 2.5/5 So I came here with my friend to get her her first pedicure because I heard good reviews and my usual place was busy. But this place or at least the girl I had wasn't worth the price of $40 for a pedicure. The hot towel and exfoliation of the leg was nice but she didn't do anything for the foot besides scrub the bottom for like 10 seconds. At my usual nail place they take the time to clean and do a good exfoliation for the foot. This isn't an exaggeration either. She then proceeded to get a phone call during the nail polish portion so she decides to quickly finish the polish which was very thin and uneven. She then leads us to the drying station and leaves us for her phone call (which I know wasn't serious because she was laughing the whole time) and we never saw her again. This pedicure was worth maybe $25 but $40 is way too much and for what she did. I will not be returning nor will I tell others about this place. read more

There's not enough people there so they were rushing and layered on the polish too thick and it's already chipping off, same with my friend, took 2 hours to fully dry, paid an extra $10 for the deluxe pedi and received a very basic experience that should've been included in the normal treatment. I will never, ever, ever, EVER spend a penny here again. I came in for an appointment with Mary, asked for Chrome polish, and she looked at me like I was crazy. Luckily, someone else found it for her and told her how to use it. However, she spend the entire time pointing out other colors and trying to get me to change my mind. It wasn't until it chipped within hours of my appointment (which shouldn't have as it was gel) did I realize she wanted me to get something different because she clearly had no idea what she was doing. Additionally, she kept wanting to change the shape of my nails. Within days, all of my nails were chipping and peeling. In addition I was not told how much extra it would cost for chrome (more than any salon I've gotten it done at) nor was I told the upcharge to remove the gel I had on my nails, which is typically included if you're getting gel again. Also, everything looked old and dirty and in desperate need of renovation. read more

The price was right - $33 mani-pedi special, so I gave it a try. I've only had my nails done a couple of times, so I don't have much to compare it to. The nail tech was very polite, and the shop was clean and pleasantly decorated. I was uncomfortable with all of the cross-selling (must have nails redone twice a month; how about trying our gel treatment, hey did you know we sell cuticle oil?). I also wasn't crazy about the manicure - I asked for rounded nails but the corners came out square, and I picked a nude color so would have preferred one coat and sheer but she didn't ask, just put on two coats. Mind you, my daughter chose a pale pink & I didn't know about this until after our service was done or I would've stepped in to correct the situation. There a male & female working. We paid for the best mani & pedi & got a regular mani & pedi but paid for the best one. They don't get your cuticles very well, nor do they massage or make you feel pampered. We were visiting Rochester for my son's wedding and I needed to find a salon to get my mom a manicure and I needed someplace that could accommodate her wheelchair. What a lovely shop. Very clean and modern. This salon took over from the former Beverly Hills Salon. Polly did a wonderful job. The salon is also very accessible for a wheelchair. Free parking in the back. Weirdest, probably worst mani pedi experience of my life. Nothing is obviously wrong with the salon when you walk in. And I guess, if you like getting a big dose of right wing politics and evangelical religion with your manicure, this is the place for you. Not my cup of tea, but fine if you like Donald Trump and Joyce Meyers this could be a dream come true for you! Everything seemed fine at first, I sat down in the pedicure chair and soaked, couldn't get the wifi password to work on my iPad but that's no big deal. My mistake was to engage the nail tech in conversation. She somehow jumped from stating that she was born in Greece to declaring that the President of the United States is a Muslim--a long ago debunked "birther" talking point. When I suggested she was wrong, not that there would be anything wrong with the President being Muslim but she had obviously bought into that kind of bigotry also, she became quite combative and argumentative. Pointing out the impropriety of the weird line of political rant she chose to take up with me, which I found quite offensive actually and to tell the truth, when I go into the nail salong I am only interested in my nail tech's opinion on nail color, shellac vs gel, and whether I think the termperature of the water is fine or not. The birther nail tech never apologized. In fact, she yelled at me as she walked away. At that point, my feet were in the tub, my toenail polish removed, and I was quite offended and really wished I had never come in the place. I asked the owner to find me a new nail tech and so the owner, Polly, took her place. The original tech sat tapping what I can only imagine were angry comments on Bernie Sanders' facebook page. Who knows. There was not another soul in the place. Ahhh, the fun had only just begun. No acknowledgement of the offensive behavior of her employee was made. She wrapped my fingers in foil to dissolve my shellac and started to talk kind of stream of consciousness about Jesus. Wow...okay, so, I'm all for people practicing their faith, but I felt like I was trapped at a one woman revival meeting. It was nonstop, Jesus Jesus Jesus...really? I work in a religious institution, but this was WAY over the top. I would have left, honestly, but by the time I realized how weird these people were I was stuck. I tried to shorten the experience by forgoing the shellac (which is actually gelish, not shellac), and in my hurry to get out of there my nails were still wet. And I paid full price. Tomorrow I will get my nails re-done at a salon where I hope the topic of conversation has more to do with nails and less, far less, about politics and religion. And, hopefully they will have shellac! I will definitely check Yelp! first this time. read more

The name is "Joy" but, that's just the name though, not the experience. I walked into the shop and it was dim and empty. Normally I don't mind a dim mani/pedi as that's how most places on the east coast do it but, this place just seemed dank and chilly. There was a woman on a ladder tearing apart the roof trying to figure out how to replace a recessed light fixture with debris collecting all along the floor. Scattered miscellaneously was paperwork and boxes as if I walked into a home you would see on hoarders. I sat down in the front and wasn't greeted for 5-7 minutes even though there was not even one other person in there. I was finally greeted and told to have a seat at the front nail station. I've had mani/pedis all across the world and this was the first time I was ever asked to have my hands taken care of first. Maybe not such a big deal but, I did notice. As I'm sitting, the tech came over with a bowl of water to soak my hands in. To my surprise the water was freezing cold and quite unpleasant. I also noticed that there was no solution in the water. A cold solution-less soak for me... = [ The tech begins to work with no word spoken of my preferences. She began to cut my nails down until there was no white left in them. I like to have some white left otherwise I look like a nail biter. Also, I just think one looks like one have no class when cut down to finger nub like that. She didn't clean out from under my nails either which was unique and a bit unsettling. When she was done cutting they were even at least. Points for that.. She tore up my cuticles and didn't trim the excess all the way off leaving them to flap in the breeze. I normally take a clear-coat on my nails as I like the glint when I'm in meetings. I asked her for a clear-coat and she argued with me that I could still have a shine from "just a buff".. I asked her again to do the clear-coat and she said "OK, if that's what you want but, they will still shine with a buff". Then she used a high grit file to prep-scuff me. the grit was way too high and left a grain in the nail itself. She applied one coat and tried to move me along to the pedi station. By now I'm starting to get worked up.. Trying to still be courteous I asked her how many coats she usually applies and asked for at least another coat. She reluctantly complied. Off to the pedi station.. The massage chair was like no other I've sat in before. The basics of the chair were pretty universal but this chair had a post or a pole that ran right up your butt! That's not a joke. Thrusting like a chair you'd find in the naughty store in royal oak. I figure out how to stop that motion and the tech begins to handle my feet. I'm glad to say the feet went much smoother than the hands did. I opted for the extended foot and leg massage. While that was happening the owner Polly kept trying to upsell me on everything time and time again. Then the tech told me I could use a full body massage 2ce a month. Then this real crazy lady came in from the back door. She had a tote bag and was clearly over caffeinated. She began trying to up sell me as well coming over and touching me telling me all kinds of new age magic healing crystal BS that should be relegated to witch craft stores, emo's and hippies... At this point I was so overwhelmed with all the chaos of multiple people bombarding me with crap I sat forward and told them all I just want to be left alone and relax for the remainder of my stay there. They scattered.. I reclined the chair back and closed my eyes to chill and calm down. I feel a tap on my shoulder and it was the owner Polly. She felt the need to tell me that they do full body massages there too. I chuckled a bit knowing already I'd never return to this shop ever. I told her that I would ask my gf if she wanted to get a full body massage too and if she wanted to we would both be back. Polly launched into this rant telling me that "It's not that kind of establishment". "That is a Jesus room!" "This is a house of Jesus!" I took my cue and had the tech finish me off quickly. So quickly she left my feet slimy with one of their up sell products. I dismissed that because I just wanted to get out of there. I paid up front and tipped her 50% as I am a great tipper even if the experience is a nightmare. I don't blame her totally. She was taught wrong and never corrected. As I was leaving Polly confronted me at the door and asked me to come back later that night for the "Lighting of the down town area". Again I chuckled and told her I don't think I'll be able to make it... I was recommended there by a coworker. That was the last time I'll ever ask her for anything ever again.. This nail salon is the best I have ever bin too!! They are extremely nice, professional and really pay attetion to what you want. My nail technician was amazing, she would double check that I liked the form and shape of my nails. I got a regular shellac nails and she did them amazing. She was very attentive to details, she realized the polish was very thin so she gave me three coats made sure the polish created a even coat, no one has ever been so careful to make sure its perfect.
