COMPLETELY UNETHICAL Never have I seen a doctor call to scream and argue with her own customers. She has made multiple customers cry, she screams at staff, and does not honor quotes that her staff has given. While she may be a qualified dentist, it is her ego that will do her in, she screamed at staff complaining about them using the wrong color of pens and telling them they weren't doing anything right, I feel bad for the staff as they seemed to be walking around on eggshells. Do not waste your TIME, MONEY, or ENERGY here. There are so many better options in the valley for cosmetic and general dentists. This disingenuous woman is clearly mentally unstable, and I am I never letting her work on me or my family again. I genuinely do not trust her character. The times I visited the office, I was made to wait over an hour each time. I was told by the staff that this is pretty common and is sort of expected by her long-time customers. Are you serious? How is time management so bad? During a procedure, the first thing I noticed was the Dr. does not wear a face mask. That just seems gross and careless to me. It makes me wonder what else she doesn't care about when it comes to germs, and what other corners she is cutting. Does she wash her hands? I didn't see it. The way she talks to her staff is disgusting and abhorrent. Her tone of voice made the appointments more tense and increased my anxiety about being in a dental office, not that I have much. I heard her tell the poor sweet assistant girl working with her that she will "just never be as smart as her," and she is "the smartest person in the building." It was so hard to listen to, the girl just took it. I gave her looks of sympathy, I hope she quit. Aside from being rude to the girl, it was also awkward. She wouldn't let up. At one point she was asking the girl some pretty private questions. I am just laying there with my mouth wide open, and this woman will not stop talking. I honestly just want to be in peace during dental procedures. This was an extreme opposite. Another time, a final straw, she got so frustrated she threw her instruments down (literally), said multiple times that she, "just can't do this anymore," and that she was "done," and then left the operatory with me still laying down as she slammed a door. The assistant told me she just needed a minute to cool off and eat something. ...So you're telling me that the Dr. in charge of my procedure, that I am spending over $2000 for and am numb for, that I waited over an hour for, literally just had a mental breakdown, and still has to come back to finish the procedure (which was an absolute mess). One of the scarier moments of my life. You can bet everything I will NEVER bring my family or myself to this deplorable dentist ever again. I have also heard since from my new dentist that the awards that are hung all around her office, are actually paid for by her. She just submits some paperwork and sends them some cash. I had broke my front tooth several years ago and had my Fantastic Dentist, Dr. Marley in Sitka, Alaska fix it. In January of 2019 I had my Invisalign removed by the traveling Orthodontist. He attempted to fix a very small chip in my front tooth and ended up filing almost half of my tooth away... It was devastating to say the least! Dr Marley made a temporary repair and highly recommended Dr Joyce Bassett, DDS as he says I needed an Expert as the tooth was over filed. I flew to Scottsdale on December 11, 2019 and was met by Professional Cheery supportive Staff member's who welcomed me and made me feel relaxed! Upon meeting Joyce, I knew I had made the right decision as she spent time with me and wrote up a detailed plan of action for each tooth before even touching me. Joyce spent over 4 hours correcting the broken front tooth and fixing most of my upper and lower front teeth. I contacted Smile by Joyce to set up an appointment and now 3 weeks later at 6 pm i received a call back from her office. I was asked if I wanted to still make an appointment for a smile consultation as the receptionist was talking to someone else in the back ground about a different situation. Once she joined back into my conversation I had made the mistake of asking if they honored dental insurance and I was quickly shut down. I was informed if I had to ask about insurance then I can not afford to go to their office. She told me their pricing would be above me. She also told me if I used insurance then I would not be getting good dental care. This women knew nothing about me yet judged me as if she did. Very poor service and very disrespectful. Dr. Bassett filled a cavity in a molar. Thought everything was ok but felt pain from the filling after a few weeks. Had already decided to go with another dentist who told me that the cavity was not completely cleaned out before filling was put in by Dr. Basett. The infection spread to the root and had to have a root canal. Waste of time and money. read more

Dr. Bassett charges to reset crowns that fail in 3 years, and doesn't appear to think that is unusual. Most dentists I've spoken with since leaving her practice guarantee crowns for at least 5 years. If you can afford her emergency fees plus the cost of replacing your crowns ($2000 a tooth) every few years, plus deal with her attitude, you will be very happy with this dentist. read more

Signing a comittment to pay $650.00 for a single tooth bonding procedure which both Joyce and her office mgr stated was discounted from $800.00 felt great until she completed the procedure and told me "I did such a great job I think you should pay me $800.00", I looked around wondering if I was being video taped for "Punked" and asked "What do you mean...I signed the comittmenet letter for $650.00", Joyce's response was "Yes and I wont MAKE you pay it but you should want to because your tooth came out better than I thought it would...think of it like a tip, like a waiter that gives you great service". Can you say SHOCKED! Please tell me someone who tips a dentist or anyone in the medical field for that matter, can we say...unethical! I'm sure the AZ Board would love to hear about a dentist actually asking for a tip! But that wasnt the worst part! After speeding down the hall loudly saying throughout the office that I should tip her the extra $150.00 I trotted behind and yelled ahead that I was stepping into the restroom before checking out. Pretty baffled and gathering myself I then walked to the front desk to check out but only her office manager was there who complimented how great my tooth looked then when I went to pull $ out of my purse said that the charge was now $800.00 and Joyce had changed the fee in the system before I came out of the bathroom!!! Keeping my cool I looked at Cheryl/Sharon, whatever her name is and told her I would like a copy of the comittment I signed for $650.00 and that was what I was paying when she replied with , "Thats fine but you will be billed the other $150.00". What renouned Dentist who rants and raves about all the amazing work she does etc. would treat anyone this way!!! How completely TACKY and UNPROFFESIONAL! I have thought long and hard about this b/c I've never written a bad review for anything but next time your dentist asks you to tip them like a waiter or changes your fees once you've already signed and agreed to a set amount then tells you that you should WANT to pay more AND consider it a tip please let the community know so they dont go through the same experience. Unfortunately I am now not going back to have Joyce do $2,000.00 per tooth vaneers on me once I complete my invisilign...I would rather find another dentist that has class. read more

I was nervous going into any type of cosmetic procedure, because in my experience, most doctors that specialize in cosmetic work of any kind are a lot of showmanship and very little honesty. In searching for a cosmetic dentist for a smile makeover, I felt that it was very important to receive 3 consultations prior to making a decision....after all, this is my smile. My first visit was with Dr. Badolato at Studio B. He came highly recommended from a friend and also has excellent reviews. My second appointment was with Dr. Rod Gore. Dr. Gore was a referral from a dentist friend. Both appointments were approximately 1 1/2 - 2 hours long and included, FREE OF CHARGE, a full blown consultation, complete with pictures of my smile and recommendations. Both consultations were to my satisfaction and I left with much information to review. They were both VERY thorough. My final consulatation was going to be with Dr. Bassett. I contacted her office and they collected my information. The receptionist then proceeded to tell me that my appointment would be about 1 1/2 hours, I would need to have a full set of x-rays (not wing bites), photos taken, office visit and the consult.....ready for this......all to the tune of $675!! Because I would never invest $675 upfront for a consultation with someone that I'm not even sure is a good fit, I thought that I would inquire as to a "guesstimate" to the cost of veneers. The receptionist said that she couldn't give me a ballpark. I pushed and told her that I wouldn't hold her to it but that if I was going to invest that kind of money upfront, that I'd like to first see if Dr. Bassett was within the ballpark of the other cosmetic dentists. Again, she said she couldn't give a ballpark. I then asked her if I paid this fee and chose Dr. Bassett, would any part of that "initial fee", be credited toward veneers, if I chose to go with her. The answer, "NO". It seems to me that Dr. Bassett has so much business that an added client is unnecessary OR, she really needs to speak to someone about good marketing. Dr. Bassett has been our family dentist for almost 25years. She has been incredibly helpful during emergencies, regular check ups and cosmetic work which she performed on myself, my husband and my son. Her work has stood the test of time. I have not had one of the many white fillings that she replaced over 20 years ago, fail or have any decay occur. Her veneers are beautiful and better than our natural teeth. She has given my husband an entirely new and beautiful smile which has lasted now for more than 15 years. She has replaced crowns and veneers or me that other dentists have placed. Hers were far more natural and improved my smile tremendously. I can't say enough positive things about her and the quality of her dentistry. If you are looking for a dentist that is meticulous, thorough and has an eye for beauty and cosmetics she is the only person I would trust to due extensive work on me or anyone in my family. So my wife finds Dr Bassett on an Internet search and makes an initial first time new patient appointment , appointment is for 4:00PM and they tell her to get there 1/2 hour early to fill out paper work, which was strange since they sent her paper work in the mail to fill out. By 5:30PM she was still in the waiting room not seen by anyone!! Two other patients arrived and were seen WAY after my wife was sitting in the waiting area. I was outside to pick her up, she has had out patient surgery that took less time, I finally texted her at 5:30PM and asked how much longer, she stated she hadn't even been seen yet, I told her to get up and leave. The audacity of this Dentist to treat a brand new patient like their time doesn't matter is beyond rude and unprofessional. If you have a day to kill may I suggest Dr Bassett, if time is important to you then find a dentist that has more respect for your time. read more

The first would have required me to "rob Fort Knox" for major surgery, the second merely mortgage my house. Then I had the good fortune to discover SMILES BY JOYCE, since Dr. Bassett is world renowned for her estheticism (not to mention charitable work) according to numerous authoritative sources. Now I understand why! On my initial visit, Joyce along with her highly competent & friendly staff spent several hours giving me the most thorough dental examination/cleaning in my life. At the consultation which followed, I jokingly explained that my goal was to wind up looking like Tom Cruise. As challenging a task as this may have been, Joyce welcomed it. She took dozens of photos/x-rays, made a bunch of impressions, then in collaboration with various professionals at outside labs determined the optimum course of action. A few short weeks later -- and at a tiny fraction of what the others would have charged, I now (according to my distinguished panel of beauty experts) look even better than Tom! I've nicknamed Dr. Bassett "The Michelangelo Of Mouths" for the incredible sculpturing she does. The entire experience was painless -- I dare say even enjoyable. I chipped my tooth on a Thursday and Dr. Bassett saw me on a Tuesday which was great to start with. Not only did she bond the chipped tooth, she added bonding to several other teeth that had darkened over the years. I was so happy with my smile only to find that I had chipped my tooth again in less than a week. I was a little afraid to call and say that I had chipped it again but I was seen back in the office just two days later and the repair was done within minutes! She literally saved my daughter's molars when they came in with no enamel. She was able to preserve them until my daughter was old enough to get crowns. My dear relative had a bad first appointment. Went in dental chair and was yelled at for a long time after refusing to pay around 80K for needed dental work, plus more fees. Then was charged for extra time spent, I guess for being yelled at. I witnessed a very upset patient that I care about that was not respected and was miss treated for not having the money. Crown materials were not even discussed. My impression is that this is an office for someone with generally healthy teeth and a lot of money to spend, if you need real help for real problems I would look some where else. Later I also learned that dentists are drillers, they send it all to a lab and pay around $30.00 to $50.00 on average per crown. That is $2,628.00 profit for each tooth, when charging $75,000.00 for 28 crowns, oh but that is not including the extra fees. I did not understand what the 80K was for, except for huge profits! I had the impression this is a huge sales thing going on if you need major work done. read more
