McAdams is the best family dental practice we've found here in the valley. Both me and my husband (and several friends) have used them for cleanings, fillings, crowns and other dental procedures for over 5 years now. Crowns can be done in one day, and treatments have been consistently pain free with great results. They always take their time explaining everything from appointments/insurance to cleanings, xrays and various options for treatments and there is no pressure to have anything done that you're not comfortable with. The office is very advanced technically (e.g.; you can view your xray results on monitors at each station, there are cool viewing screens on the ceiling, etc.) and we appreciate being able to confirm appointments via text. This office is always on schedule too. We usually see Dr. Don McAdams for dental work and Jamie McAdams for cleaning/xrays, they are both so knowledgeable and provide detailed information as well as making sure you're comfortable throughout your visit. First, I will give you my bias. I have known Donnie McAdams since he was a 15 year old kid winning state wrestling championships in Alaska.... was the best man at his wedding, and have been around for most of the major events in his life. Does this qualify me to get 4 crowns placed during his dental training in San Francisco, yes. Does it obligate me to sit in his chair day after day for three to four hour appointments under the scrutiny of professors staffing one of the best private dental schools in the US, a resounding NO. Averse to the amount of time it would take in school, I waited until he was four months into his practice, and flew 3649 miles from Anchorage, AK to see Don and Jamie here in Paradise Valley. In a seemingly impossible flurry of dental activity, I had my four crowns prepped and temporary crowns placed in 2.25 hours. On my followup a week later, I had four new porcelain crowns with perfect occlusion placed in less than an hour, and a perfectly clean grill thanks to Jamie. Not only do my teeth look aesthetically awesome, but my bite feels better than ever. I cannot recommend a person or a practice higher. If I had another set of hands, I'd give them four thumbs up. Do you, your mouth, and your family's mouth's a lifelong favor, and call this man and his wife and establish a relationship with them at Mcadams Dental...you will never regret the decision. read more

I've been a patient here for years and was a patient at their old office too. This is the best dentist I've ever had, my insurance changed earlier this year and my copays increased but I couldn't fathom the idea of changing dentists. Today was a great example of why I will continue to recommend and be a patient at this office. I broke an old filling while on vacation last week. I called and Terry fit me right in on the schedule. I arrived on time for my appointment and they promptly called me back. I am 6 months pregnant and getting dental work is a scary thought. They were entirely prepared and up to date on my chart, I was given also extra protection during x-ray and they explained risk associated with pregnancy and dental work. Start to finish, forty minutes and two fillings later I was on my way home. I felt no pain or discomfort in the initial exam, novocaine injection, or drilling/filling. Five hours later I am still pain free. Dr. McAdams and his awesome staff makes visiting the dentist a joy, I could fall asleep in his dental chair. My troublesome tooth feels great and my bite is perfect. I had no wait or delay in treatment and no pain at all. Not sure what would make a dental experience any better. read more

I have been through the mill with this dentist office, from poor work, unnecessarily pulling teeth, breaking other teeth to push his own agenda. I've had cancelled appointments, calls from back door numbers to make sure I answer, him flat out whimpering on the phone, the dental association involved, totally ridiculous! Read the reviews, I need to be very careful what I write because "the truth" will fall into the hidden reviews. There is more "not recommended reviews" then actual reviews and my review is based on ONE tooth!! I came in originally with a sore tooth, I saw the five star reviews and made an appointment. Dr McAdams in my opinion is unethical and does dentistry for the money and not for the welfare of the patient. I had a cavity below the gum line he said. It was small, but due its location he said it will grow quickly and recommended an implant. He said due the anatomy of me having porous soft teeth he recommended a full mouth exam and a full set of x-rays. Upon its completion, now I need 7 implants, with a total of upwards of $50,000! I said to just fix the small cavity I came in for. He tried hard to talking me into 7 implants, financing, and I had to tell them no multiple times, just fix the small cavity. He pulled the tooth AND broke another one saying the tool slipped, and now I need a bridge, or an implant! The bridge was more then half less, so I went with the bridge... It took 4 months to complete the bridge from wrongly made bridges, cancelled appointments, this was by far the worse experience I've ever had with a dentist AND 4 months... for a bridge?! The kicker is when it was finally completed I terminated any further work and went to a different dentist, even a 3rd for other opinions, both 2nd and 3rd dentists said McAdams put the bridge over decay. Back to McAdams I went and he denied any wrong doing, so I reported him to The Dental Association. I lost, but it is recorded. **FINALE** In less than 3 years I had MASSIVE tooth pain one evening at the area of McAdams bridge. I had to cancel a business trip and go to an emergency dental practice, $1300 later the bridge was cut off, and my tooth with the decay under the bridge my tooth rotted so bad inside the crown my tooth collapsed below the jaw line, it decayed into my jaw bone and now I need oral surgery to remove the remainder of Dr McAdams mistakes! 1 small cavity is now missing teeth, extensive work and will cost over $7,000 to fix his unethical agenda! I think he did it on purpose honestly, but I went back to McAdams over this. The same back door calling, whimpering, denial, and he said he is upset I am not happy and refunded "his cost" and blamed the Dental Association for letting him off for no wrong doing. Soooooo... you decide. BEWARE of this guy. read more

Terrible experience with this dentist! Inappropriate, disrespectful and disappointing. The dentist tried to intimidate me into getting unneeded x-rays within two minutes of meeting me. He refused to see me or treat me If I did not agree to a "full set" of x-rays - without any discussion at all. Basically said: get the medical diagnostic first, then we can talk. Without even knowing the reason why I did not want a "full set" of x-rays he told me it was best if we "part ways". He did not even ask me why or what my concerns were; incredibly inappropriate disrespectful and disappointing. A medical provider who cannot listen to a patient is not worth the time And does not have the patient's best interest in mind. This is an awesome dental practice and this is coming from someone who HATES going to the dentist. I've been really hurt in the past by unscrupulous people. Dr. McAdams is such a nice person - kind and understanding. Extra time was taken during my visit and I never felt rushed. I was his last patient of the day practically and I never felt like he wanted to rush things to get done and go home. He is also great at explaining things to help you understand what is going on. Additionally all the office staff were very kind to me as well. Great people! I have to rave about the way they clean your teeth. Some kind of ultrasonic thing-a-magig that is so quick and really makes your teeth feel clean. No more of the scraping with that tool and this process is so much faster than the old way. Can't believe it took so long to find a place that is progressive and doing new techniques. After years at another place that was not so good, I'm relieved to find Dr. McAdams practice. This review is only for Dr. McAdams and his skills as I don't have direct experience with his new practice and their admin but I'm sure it will be running like a well oiled machine in no time. So.... all last Winter and Spring I spent four hours in McAdams' chair every Thursday night for weeks on end. He's pulled a wisdom tooth (see review above), filled cavities, built me a crown, and saved me from losing all my teeth by getting my mouth squeaky clean. Point is, I have plenty of experience getting care from him and he is a great dentist. He's performed most standard dental procedures on me. We're like dental BFF's. He saved my teeth! I really hated injections and I didn't like dentists much, either. I had a horrible experience with a dentist when I was 19 and it was enough to keep me out of their chairs for another ten years... yes, THAT BAD. The work was painful, subpar and the dentist was not a nice guy. Back to injections -McAdams is REALLY good at them - "you won't feel it at all" good. He's patient. He takes his time. He's careful and considerate of your feelings and fears when he does his work. If you are a nervous patient, you will be in good hands with him and after a few sessions you might rethink your relationship with dentists entirely. I know I have. I cried after our last appointment because I was so disappointed that MY dentist was leaving me to move to Phoenix. Who's going to care for my teeth like he did? He got me to floss. I seriously have not missed one day since he told me why I should floss. My loss is your gain. Go see Dr. McAdams. 5 stars given for bedside manner, efficiency, desire to work with me as a patient and explain insurance coverage and costs, and personal attentiveness, even outside of the office! Dentists can be a tricky bunch. I have a low pain tolerance which has caused annoyances with previous dentists, and have had the unfortunate circumstance of getting a $10,000 estimate on unnecessary dental work! Needless to say, I was in the market for a new dentist, and wasn't exactly thrilled with my previous experiences. After reading the fantastic reviews on yelp, I decided to give Dr McAdams a try. All paperwork was emailed and printed beforehand, so I could have everything ready upon arrival. Awesome! Upon walking in, I was greeted by his lovely wife who took me back for my initial exam and X-Rays. She was one of the sweetest people I've ever interacted with in a professional setting! She was more than happy to indulge my happiness and excitement over the cool X-Ray machine and she even sent me the copies so I could show them to my daughter while we were studying the skeletal system! She was also very understanding when it came to my fears of pain tolerance issues. When McAdams came to see me, we immediately hit it off. We're both science geeks, so it was a huge pleasure to speak with him about anatomy, biology, and dentistry! He conveyed everything he was doing on a scientific level, and when there were things that I didn't understand, he explained them thoroughly, in a language where I could get it. It was like getting a biology lesson while getting my dental work done! Now for the important part: We came up with a comprehensive treatment plan, where he showed me his procedure costs, what the insurance will cover, and what I will be left responsible for. We broke our treatment plan down over the course of two years, so we can make sure to get the most out of my insurance coverage. He printed everything out, and made notes so I could understand it all long after my visit was over and it was time to reschedule appointments with him. This treatment plan only consisted of things that were actually necessary, and I was already aware of much of it. There was nothing in here that didn't really need to be done, which immediately gave me confidence in how much I could trust the costs and procedure recommendations. When I came back to get some fillings, his bed side manner was AWESOME. Very gentle, accommodating, and wanting to make sure that I wasn't experiencing any pain. What a difference between Don McAdams and my previous dentist! There was no annoyance at all, only care and consideration. The fillings took less than an hour, and I was out the door! I had to call the office a month later with a question, and as soon as I said my name, they remembered who I was! With the professionalism, care, and family environment of this office, I am thrilled to call McAdams my permanent family dentist! read more

McAdams Dental is hands down the best dental experience I've ever had. I came in for a regular check-up and cleaning for the first time and I am totally impressed! My husband has been going there for a couple of years and has also consistently had wonderful experiences. They sent my paperwork ahead of time to my email address, so I brought in my filled out copies, which saves quite a bit of time. I was there for no more than 5 minutes before I was sitting in Sara's chair. She is the BEST! Super friendly, remembered personal details my husband had told her (like that we had gotten back from a big trip and where I work). There is a HUGE emphasis on patient education in their office and she did a great job of explaining some ways to change some of my habits to keep my teeth and gums even healthier! It was in a very encouraging a positive way and in no way was embarrassing or aggressive-feeling, like you can experience in other offices. She took a detailed history and performed an oral cancer screening as well. Even with the thorough history, the cleaning etc all took about 45 minutes. All their instruments are state-of-the-art, brand new. They even use an ultrasonic device to break up plaque and tartar, super cool and way less invasive/painful as the normal instruments. After the cleaning was done, I had x-rays taken and then went to see Dr. McAdams. He checked very thoroughly over Sara's work and then through my medical record. He also looked through the x-rays and explained to me exactly what he saw and what he would be looking for. It was very professional and empowering as a patient. He spoke as an equal and was very compassionate. It is clear that patient knowledge is very important to their office! Who knew you could get your patients excited about their teeth?! I'm pregnant, in my first trimester. On a Saturday afternoon I suddenly had severe tooth pain. I was limited on eating and I have way too many allergies to count, plus dental work during pregnancy is not encouraged. I was so concerned and miserable. On Monday I called McAdams Dental after reading all the reviews, to see if they could get me in same day. They did! Not only that, they got all my contact information for my obgyn was and scanned the instructions from my obgyn on what procedures were okay and not okay. Other dentists had told me this particular tooth had to be pulled as well as some others, so quite frankly I had not seen a dentist in a while because of this. He saved my tooth!! He was able to determine it was just cavity under my crown and not anything more serious. Not only that, he determined my other teeth also didn't need to be pulled! He did the work the same day, even sacrificing part of his lunch hour (not that he mentioned to me, I saw his schedule and noticed the time). His wife who is a dental assistant there gave me two lead vests because I was concerned, and they use digital x-rays which cut the radiation by 93%. She got me a protein drink because I had not eaten much in the prior couple of days because of my tooth. They were so careful about my all my allergies and letting me know what they were using and that it was safer for baby and me. They honestly care. These people are amazing, well priced, caring and attentive. I found a new dentist for me and my family, and I highly recommend them for everyone! read more
