I had to run in here for a last minute purchase to twist my son's locs before his dance and the product I purchased was twice as much here as all most other beauty supply stores in Sacramento (yes, I called various stores to check pricing). I usually purchase this product for $5, but it was $10 here. SMH. I believe they are overcharging and taking advantage of the African-American community where it is located. The cashiers are always nice but the people they hire to be on the floor make the experience not as enjoyable. I'm sure the owners just make them do it, but to constantly feel like I'm being followed & watched as if I'm going to steal is not something I enjoy. This is a Korean owned business, & while they are nice to me whenever I stop by, they do use Black & Brown bodies to do the "dirty" work. I've come and spent lots of money at this establishment, but the distrust they have & the feeling of being watched & followed by one of the workers is unsettling. I'm not sure what it was about me that made the Latina girl constantly come to the aisle I was in & just do random nothings or look at products that were on a completely stocked & neat shelf made me think she was only in the same aisles & moving to the aisles/sections I was in to monitor me. Not cool. With the uprising of boycotting non-Black owned beauty supply stores, I will now no longer give my money to this business for creating an unwelcoming experience & moving further, I will go the distance to only find & spend my $'s at a Black-Owned beauty supply store. read more

With the convenience and expedited services provided to Amazon Prime customers, shopping at physical stores almost seems like an antiquated task. However, when it came to finding a decently priced Curl Sponge for my son's Mohawk, I couldn't bring myself to pay the $20 that they were being sold for on Amazon. After visiting a nearby Sally Beauty Supply that was selling the Curl Sponge for the same price, I had pretty much given up. As God would have it, a friend of mine mentioned that she recently purchased a Curl Sponge for under $10 at Joyce's Beauty Supply. When I entered Joyce's I was immediately overwhelmed by the multitude of hair products (they have random non-hair related products as well) available. While my wife wondered off to "Wig Wonderland" (this place has a huge assortment available in a wide range of prices), I walked over to the section with brushes and Curl Sponges. To my delight, they offered three different sizes of Curl Sponges (for those looking to achieve small, medium, or large curl patterns). The smallest Curl Sponge starting at $5.99, the medium size $7.99, and the large size $9.99. Since I'm indecisive, I summoned the assistance of an employee by the name of Steve. Based on my son's curl pattern, Steve suggested that I opt for the medium-sized Curl Sponge. After assisting me with the Curl Sponge, Steve helped me find a wave brush that would contribute to my desire to achieve a tighter wave pattern. After successfully finding the proper brush for my hair texture, Steve proceeded to ring me up. The total for two medium-sized Curl Sponges (they were so cheap I had to buy two) and one medium boar bristle brush....drumroll please....$20.63! Your next question is probably in regards to the quality of the Curl Sponge. I have to add that the Curl Sponge is just as durable as the $20 version offered at Sally Beauty Supply. Horrible experience. I do not recommend that anyone patronize this business. I was looking for a wig. I spent fifteen to twenty minutes looking in the wig section before a worker assisted me. I called from afar loud enough to a worker who did not acknowledge my voice and request help. I was finally assisted after my third attempt to gain an employee's attention. The individual who helped me was indeed lovely and helpful; however, it is not good customer service if someone needs support in the wig section, as they are looking for a human hair wig, and all your human hair wigs are put away by either being locked in a case or put high on a shelf on a wall behind a counter out of reach, requiring a customer to receive help from an employee, and there are none available to support. The wigs at Joyce's Beauty Supply are incredibly overpriced. You can go to the wig section of the store, look up the brand and the style of a wig on the tag, and either find the wig on Amazon or the actual brand website and purchase it much cheaper, including shipping costs. After my attempt to look for a wig failed, I decided to look at hats and end up purchasing a hat. I then purchased my item and left the store. I returned within ten minutes and requested to return the hat I purchased, and I was notified that hats were on final sale. Nowhere in the store, on the hat display, or on the front where you check out does it state that hats are in final sale. I then asked if there could be an exception, and I just purchased the hat within ten minutes and was told no. The hat had not been worn; the plastic barrier had not even been touched. It was still in the bag as the individual who rang me up had placed it. Overall, I am disappointed in my experience with this beauty supply. I think there definitely needs to be a significant improvement. I originally only went to King Wigs and much preferred that store as they had notices of all their policy regarding exchanges and returns on their front door and by the counter where you check out. I will never patronize Joyce's Beauty Supply anytime soon, if ever again. I recommend purchasing items they need from Amazon, Walmart, or directly from the brand website itself as it will be more cost-efficient, and you will not have to deal with poor or lack of customer service. read more

This is my go-to beauty supply, as it is really close to my job. They have a decent selection, but nothing to call home about. The store is fairly organized. Prices are okay. Customer service is so-so. They do watch you most of the time you are in there. However, because of the location and some of the sketchy individuals I have seen outside the store, I understand and can overlook this. Usually, when I go in, I know exactly what I am looking for. So I am on my break and come in to buy a few bundles along with relaxer and combs etc. So not sure what style I'm going for I'm browsing the store since I haven't gotten a chance to the previous times I was there along with a friend. As I'm looking about 5 minutes after arriving a lady comes up to me and asks if I need help. Then I say no, then comes up to me 10 minutes later asking anything I can help you with. Same lady! I'm just looking at the different products of relaxed at this point. I haven't even looked at the bundles. So I got my relaxer after she tells me that's the most popular one. And as I'm looking at different hair pieces I'm approached by another associate whose clearly pregnant. And he whole mood was off she asks rudely can I help you with something. At this point I'm so uncomfortable, and I'm still remaining nice asking her about a bundle I may be interested in, and during the entire conversation she seems annoyed. So in the middle of showing me hair she goes in the front of the store and continue to talk to her fellow co workers. Then I'm browsing me and another associate is helping me once I waved her down that I would like to look at a bundle behind the counter. She's helpful, but quickly trying to see which one I wanted. I was like my god. So while I continue to finish up looking and gather my purchases the pregnant lady continues to come down the aisles watching me multiple times! Now, I don't know if it's because I'm black. But she was also, but I have money to pay for the things I'm looking at. I seen photos of people who have stolen from the store before but to be treated like that and a paying customer was completely shocking on how they run their business. And I feel if I didn't need the hair and accessories ASAP I wouldn't of gave them a dime of my money! I'll never recommend this place, I liked it because it wasn't to far from my job. A few months ago, I noticed Chatmans was no longer open during regular hours and there was no signs posted! Boo! So annoyed because I was use to getting all my hair supplies at this location, and can't stand having to go up the street to other beauty shops that have many interesting characters hanging out in front! Joyce's has several locations around Sacramento so this Mack Road location is a great addition because it is closer to me. Joyce's staff is wonderful and informative. When I was purchasing kinky afro hair for my new twists, they realized they were running out of the brand I wanted and quickly offered to place an order for me. But no worries I bought the rest they had to fit my needs and they promised to restock. Hair and hair products are expensive, but for the grand opening they are currently offering 15% for checking in on Yelp. The cashier stated I was one of 3 who has actually used it. The woman who helped me was super friendly and helpful; ran her ragged trying to find the perfect style and color for my wigs, but she didn't seem to mind :). This store has many options, but their lack of honesty and customer service pissed me off the last time I was there. First time I was there I wanted these specific pair of lashes and they were out of stock. So I ask when will they get more in, they said monday or tuesday of next week they will get some more. Im like ok no problem ill just come back. I came back to the store yesterday, Tuesday. And the same girls that were there last time were there again. This time the manager was there i believe, the asian guy. I immediately go ask for those lashes again, and they told me they were out of stock, same answer they gave me last time, not realizing I was the same person. I explain how I was there last week and was told they would get more. After that I got no response, no "im sorry we misinformed you", no reply! JUST ATTITUDE. So as Im looking at lashes, one hispanic chick goes "well thats a first" Oh this is the first time someone called you out on your bs? Hm. Then the second hispanic chick and the first started speaking in their language in front of me. I may not know what exactly they were saying, but shit if you have to speak in another language while starring at me, you shady and you aint slick. If I didnt have a client on sunday, I WOULD HAVE DROPPED EVERYTHING I HAD IN MY BASKET AND WALKED OUT. Instead I let these snobby, ladies talk their mess, bought my stuff and made sure I was never going to come back. Weirdest part? My daughter bought $50+ dollar extensions that barely held up and was told it was 100% human hair. IDK.
