*updated review after second visit* My dogs got FLEAS at this groomer. They keep all of the dogs loose in the back. That's why it's important to keep the animals separate and sanitize the kennels. I took my dogs here on Saturday for a full groom. They came home with little tufts of untrimmed hair all over, and one of my dogs also had red marks all over him. We were a little unhappy about that, but I can trim them. BUT then my husband noticed 2 fleas on one dog and 1 on the other. The dog with 2 fleas is allergic and will tear all of his fur out if he's bitten. We called JPs to tell them, but it was after-hours so I left a message. I waited 5 days to post this because I wanted to give them a chance to make it right, I don't want to hurt a local business when they just needed a chance to make it right. I never received a call back from them. Today my husband called them, and they waved the fleas off as a problem they've had recently, since they keep all the dogs together. We had to treat the dogs and our entire house for fleas last weekend because of this groomer. They offered nothing but a discount on our next visit. It's not worth the trouble of getting rid of fleas to go back. I will not return. Do NOT take your pet here! *2 weeks after getting fleas from this groomer* Still trying to get rid of the fleas after giving them baths, using frontline, vacuuming everything, and washing their bedding. Our indoor cat has them now too. My dog who is allergic has to wear a cone because he chewed himself so much he was bleeding. TAKE FLEAS SERIOUSLY. I cannot express how furious and disappointed I am that I brought my dogs here. *first visit* After reading so many positive reviews on yelp, I decided to bring my pups (schnauzers) to JP's Top Dog. I do NOT use this groomer but I agreed to drop a friend's dog off here this weekend as she had a family emergency. I believe in supporting local businesses so I thought I'd add a review. The groom area itself looked very clean and the staff greeted me upon entry. It took about 2-ish hours on a Saturday for her dog to be groomed and she came out looking really good. They call you when the dog is ready - the only con I had was posted hours said 6:30 close for that day but they left a message saying they were closing at 3:30; but I understand maybe they had gotten through their workload and wanted to head home. I'm always a bit of a wreck choosing a new groomer for my dog. Will they treat him nicely? Will they know how to do a proper breed cut? Do they follow safe and sanitary procedures? I'm happy to report that after our first visit this week, the whole team at JP's Top Dog earned a round of applause (and a wag of the tail). Booking was convenient. They don't traumatize the dogs by locking them in a kennel. All the dogs seemed happy roaming about. There was no foul odor as one sometimes endures in other dog grooming salons. Honestly I really do like supporting small and local businesses but JP's top dog has really fallen off. I originally brought my dog here years ago because my dog was absolutely obsessed with JP and he always did such a phenomenal job with him. HOWEVER... it seems like JP doesn't actually work there any more. I moved to a different area 2 years ago then moved back and my experiences since I moved back have been absolutely HORRIBLE. Upon arriving, one lady dragged my dog into the back area by his leash and collar, and then another lady left my dog tied up to the platform and walked away for almost 2-3 minutes while all these loose dogs were swarming my dog. If my dog wasn't freaked out enough by getting dragged in, the other lady extra freaked him out by leaving him tied up on the platform. After she came back, she was extremely aggressive with my dog while trying to cut his nails and was pulling his arms in all kinds directions. My dog never makes a peep or has any problems at the groomers but he was whining and looked visibly in pain. After asking her to be more gentle and to be more careful with how she was pulling him around, she said okay but yet continued to yank him around while my dog whimpered in pain. I couldn't stand to see my dog in that kind of pain anymore so I asked for my dog and money to be returned to me and the woman's response was "your dog tried to nip me". Maybe my dog wouldn't try to nip her if she wasn't being aggressive with him... Keep in mind, my dog has gotten his nails cut hundreds of times and has never had any problem with anyone except for this aggressive lady. After getting my dog back, I noticed he was limping and didn't want to put his foot on the ground. Overall, horrifying experience and I will not be returning unless I know that JP himself will be the one grooming my dog. read more

This place is a fairly new place (a couple of months old). JP already has a number of regular customers and new ones daily. He does all the work himself - personally caring for each dog as his own. He has all the equipment to help thoroughly get the job done. He personally owns 3 gorgeous poodles of his own which he takes out to shows when he can. He brings them out to the store with him as well. It was our first time having our dog "groomed". I was personally afraid and warned JP about the nightmares of us washing and cutting our dog's hair at home. He does not do well with water at all. He's a golden retriever/chow chow mix, so imagine his shedding right now with the warmer weather approaching. We took him to JP's Top Dog to have him brushed out, washed, and nails clipped. JP brushed out our dog with a shedding brush. Then he washed him with a specialty shampoo/conditioner which will help with his shedding. After he was washed, he brushed his hair out again with the shedding brush. Finally, he clipped and even grinded his nails. With all of this, JP didn't even charge for all the detail work but rather just gave it to us as service. JP provides only the best work. He is friendly and loves all his clients. His prices are also MUCH lower than what larger stores/national chains would charge to do the work. I would definitely recommend this neighborhood gem. read more

SO IMPRESSED. Today was my first time bring a dog to JP's Top Dog. I've always avoided bringing in my rescue dog to a groomer in the past, because he's a nervous boy. I've been cutting his nails and trying to shave him down myself and with the help of my family for the past few years. Boy was I doing it all wrong. I brought in my Rupert after feeling overwhelmed by his long nails that I never could manage. He deserved better than what I had been able to give him and JP's was ready to fix it! His haircut is beautiful, his nails are the best I've ever seen and his ears are spotless! Also, I never really thought I'd say this, but Rupert smells so good! We were told that because of his nervousness, they took their time as to not upset him. Their special attention and careful work on my boy has completely won me over. We will be back! read more

I was really disappointed with my experience with JP's Top Dog since our pup came home with FLEAS after her groom :(. At first, I was excited to try JP's in August because I thought that we had finally found a reliable, affordable, local groomer. Our "affordable" dog groom turned into expensive flea treatments, countless hours cleaning, and we STILL have the fleas...our 3-year-old dog had never had fleas before this... They keep all of the dogs, clean OR dirty, in one large area. I realize now why CLEAN kennels are so important in this process. I truly regret taking our dog here as it has created so much stress in our lives. Hopefully, JP will consider remedying this dilemma by installing kennels or keeping their areas cleaner. read more

Beware beware beware beware would surely give them a zero. I was at the animal ER Saturday due to puncture hole in my dog's eyes caused my the groomer with blood on her fur. They did not want to take full responsibility at all and the JP sister was arguing with me in hospital saying they doubt it was their fault. The tried to use the excuse because my dog didn't have good vision that could have cause it. I'm not sure why they think it's okay to puncture a hole in a dog's eye and say this is natural cause. Currently the hole is open and I have to give medication for the hole 6 hours a day. They refuse to pay the whole ER bill. I would never go to this groomer!!!!!! read more

JP was not in town and someone else groomed our dog. He was super nice but unfortunately it appeared as if he did not even cut anything. The nails and ears still looked the same - ears dirty and nails long. My dog was at the groomer for 5 hours, came back stressed and pretty much got a bath with a tiny haircut. Best groomer we have ever taken our dogs to. Very compassionate and obviously loves dogs. We have 2 mini golden doodles and they were both groomed exactly as I requested. We have had issues with other groomers asking for the dogs to be dropped off in the morning and then not grooming them until afternoon. I have tried at least five groomers in and around Woodstock GA looking for the perfect miniature schnauzer expert. Now I feel like I have finally found what I've been looking for! JP did an awesome job, very neat and even. Melody's beard was cut too short by the previous groomer but JP will work on that as it grows out. I asked him to let her eyelashes grow long (after all, she's a girl!) while still keeping her eyebrows orderly, and he did. I asked for a short cut with a medium-ish skirt, and she is exactly as I asked. So happy! And, the dogs are allowed to roam around inside the grooming area together, so they don't have to be locked into cages while waiting for their baths and grooming times. There are enclosures on hand if needed for puppies or a particularly rambunctious dog but overall, this is one of the best aspects of this place. They did an amazing job on my girl the first time I took her to JP's Top Dog. The second time I had her groomed when I arrived up the young lady that greeted me immediately claimed that who ever tried to groomer her previously cut her nose area. She tried to show me , but because of covid they greeted me outside and it was dark, therefore I could not see the area she spoke of. When I got home I examined my girls nose and found the spot in question. It was a fresh cut. I clipped the hair around her eyes two weeks before her grooming and not in the area where the cut appeared. Besides it was obvious this cut just happened. If they were honest and owned up the mishap I wouldn't probably be so upset, but the fact they lied to me and tried to cover up their fault makes them untrustworthy, in my opinion. Even though they do a good job in grooming, I WILL NEVER TAKE MY DOG TO THEM AGAIN, EVER!! read more

Not sure about all the great reviews. When I walked in the owner's large dog was wildly barking and aggressive toward a small dog walking free in the front area of the shop. Thank goodness the large dog was behind plastic doors; however, not a safe environment. My dog was not groomed and I believe was not washed but covered with a highly scented dry shampoo. The only trimming was on my dog's head and feet and not at all professional!! On top of this I was charged full price. My dog has been itching and scratching ever since and I am honestly surprised at this kind of treatment from a groomer. Have been too many groomers and it is quite obvious my dog was not bathed or even brushed like this groomer claimed he would do. read more

We have used JP a few times. First time was great. Second time, I dropped my dogs off in the morning, 5 hours later no call, so I called. I was given an excuse that they had been busy and my dogs would be ready soon, they would call when they were ready to be picked up. It was an hour later when I got the call. The last time I called for appointment, I was told both dogs would only take a couple hours and they would be ready. They were again dropped off early morning and appeared to be two of three dogs there already. Again after 5 1/2 hours I called to see if they were done and told the young lady that answered the phone, that they had another appointment and needed to be picked up soon. She assured me that they would be ready soon and they would call when they were ready to be picked up. After no call, I went up to shop to see what was going on. They were just finishing one of my dogs. I was given excuses again how busy they were and that was their "oops". How is that possible when you "schedule" appointments? And on top of that they did a horrible job cutting their hair. I actually had to go back and cut them myself. One leg on my dog looked like it hadn't even been cut. And their nails weren't even cut. I was in such a hurry to get out of there I didn't even bother to complain. I won't be using JP's anymore. Currently looking for a new groomer read more
