Had a small landscaping job and Raul was amazing in helping me design it and choose the right flowers/plants and trees! They sent in a team and completed the job in a few hours and cleaned up very nice as well! These guys are not your regular neighborhood Lawncare service. They are serious professionals with lots of manpower and equipment, the kind of service that can do an office park. When I called to get an estimate on a small landscaping project for our building I was told it is the busy season (obviously, that's why I am calling about a landscaping project) and they were backlogged. I mentioned I didn't need it done immediately, but I'd just like to get a quote so our condo association knows the costs so come Fall, when they're less busy, we'd love to hire them to do our project. I haven't heard anything back from this company - I won't try to reach out again if they don't care to have my business. read more

These guys are great. I have them do my spring and fall clean up, weekly service, and fertilizing. They do all kinds of things that I never ask for and don't get charged for. Like cutting the bush back that was crowding the side walk. Cutting back a tree limb that was hanging over the sidewalk. and they WEED!!!!!! Weekly service includes cutting, blowing, edging, and apparently weeding and anything else they see. All this for $25/week for front and back lawn and city parkway. I don't know - just doesn't get easier. I see complaints about the business side of the house. But these were the easiest guys to get in touch with. When I moved in, I was chasing landscaping trucks in my neighborhood trying to get a quote - to no avail! I think I found these guys on Angie's list. Came out the next day for a quote. Got a very detailed contract. It's been over a year and I couldn't be happier. This was my first winter and I did the shoveling myself. So I can't comment on pricing winter service. But they have been hear weekly at the same time like clock work. Would trust the same for winter time. read more

hardworking dudes who get the yard clean up done fast and very reasonably priced. I am in Lincoln Sq and they do a lot of work in my area. The only downside is that scheduling the work can be a hassle as the owner doesn't always send the guys on the day he says he will and isn't great about communicating that to you. read more

JR Landscaping did an excellent job on our landscaping project (rebuilding a perimeter wall, removing debris, adding topsoil, mulch and new plants). They were immediately responsive to my request for an estimate (same day!), and started and completed the project ahead of schedule. Raul and his crew were quick, professional, and paid meticulous attention to detail. When they were finished, they cleaned up the site, leaving it pristine. I hired them to put a protective coat over my patio. The product did nothing adhere to all surfaces leaving discolored marks. The company promised me they would fix the patio at least 20 times. I would text the owner to ask him when he would fix, and he would say things like "oops" or "I forgot" or "I am in Mexico and will fix it as soon as I get back I promise". After calling several companies to do some major yard clean up services, JR Landscaping answered the phone and called me the next day and came out to give me a quotes a couple days later only because I couldn't do it earlier. I've only written a handful of Yelp reviews, all of them positive. When I experience bad service, I generally choose to avoid the business future and don't spend another minute of my time on it. But this situation was so shady, I feel the need to share. We listed our house for sale in August and had trouble scheduling our former landscaping service. I contacted JR Landscaping on a Thursday night requesting spring cleanup and weekly maintenance. The next morning, I ended up mowing the lawn myself and doing some light cleanup in preparation for an open house on Sunday. JR responded to my message late morning saying they drove by and could definitely do the spring cleanup that same day. Even though I had just done the lawn, I was anxious to get on the weekly schedule and get a much more thorough cleanup, so I happily agreed. I was home the entire day with my sons, and JR never showed up. The next day, I received an email saying they had been to my house and did the cleanup. I double checked outside; absolutely nothing had been done other than my previous work. I responded saying I did not notice that they has been there, and asked if they could send me a list of the cleanup items that had been done. No response, never heard from them again. To be fair, I never paid them for any work, but this seems extremely unprofessional. There's a ton of lawn care companies operating in Chicago...go elsewhere. read more

I've had J R do spring, summer and fall "clean-ups" to my front and back yards for about two or three years. I do most of the weekly yard work myself (I see them landscaping weekly for some of my neighbors), but it looks so much better after J R has been there. They trim, weed and clean meticulously, and they're really quick, too! I've never had a problem scheduling and they have always showed up when they promise. Great service! read more

Godd guys work hard, but the business end lacks professionalism. Never knew when they decided to change days, kept charging me the same thing every week, when they did not do our back yard. I leave the back yard gate unlocked if I know they are coming. If they jut show up then the backyard did not get done. They charged the same. I have n o problem paying, I just had problem with paying for something I did not get and the constant changing of days. read more

I just moved to Portage Park and needed someone to mow/edge, clear out overgrown areas, weed flower and plant beds, and apply weed killer to lawn. I called Raul and he showed up promptly at my house for a free estimate. His estimate blew my other quote out of the water. His crew arrived early the next morning and did an excellent job. Good guys that work fast. They provided service for 10 years. Scheduling experience was similar to others. Service has gone down hill. Put new sod down in summer 2014. Lawn got rust 3 months later (Kills the grass.) Owner noted other clients also got it stating it probably came from 1 of the guys mowers. Failing to take responsibility for it is the reason for 2 stars. No offer of replacement or any kind of partial financial credit. Right before start of landscaping in 2015, he opted out of servicing my yard due to location. (West Town) Requested we come to an agreement on the sod which has never occurred. The 2 stars are for service provided before this happened and the last minute notice re: area. read more

A townhouse complex hired JR Landscaping to replace some wood walkways with stone pavers in a center courtyard. The crew did the job in 2 days as promised. They came and finished on time (if not early), and worked hard while they were here. The end result looks fantastic! They cleaned up after themselves, including picking up all the leaves that were there before they started the job. I was home most of the time they were working, and the crew was friendly and responsive to all my questions and concerns. I am by nature a worrier, but Juan put all my concerns to rest and was not bothered by my questions. He could not have been nicer about explaining what was going on.
