I rarely post reviews, but I felt it was important to share my experience with Medina. Things started well during the initial consultation and quote for new sod installation, turf cleaning, and additional lawn-care work. Unfortunately, communication became extremely difficult after I paid the deposit. I repeatedly called and emailed to confirm when the work would begin, often receiving no response. On two occasions, Javier and the team said they would come on a specific day but did not arrive or provide an update. This was especially frustrating because I was rearranging my work schedule while also dealing with family emergencies. More than a month after the deposit was paid, I was told the work was complete, although only the sod installation and turf cleaning had been performed. During the original consultation, I had also specifically discussed trimming trees and shrubs, adding mulch, removing weeds along the side of the house, and several other services. When I asked about the missing work, I received this response: "Regarding your recent questions, our original quote only included turf maintenance and new sod installation. We added the mulch at no cost as we had extra material available. The trimming and weeding you mentioned were not part of the initial scope of work." That response did not at all line up with the conversation Javier and I had during the consultation. Regardless of what ultimately appeared in their invoicing system, the scope of work was not communicated clearly. The lack of responsiveness and two missed appointments made the experience extremely frustrating and it was in no way worth the high price. Based on the poor communication, delays, missed appointments, and disagreement over the promised work, I would not hire Medina again and cannot recommend the company. read more

Originally I would have rated Medina a 5 for their work removing weeds, shrubs and small trees in our rear parking lot and installing a liner and 3" of rock to prevent future growth. This work was done last Fall. By March, we were already seeing regrowth and the response by Carlos of "just use weed killer" would be fine if it were a couple of weeds. But by May, the entire back had regrown and it looks as bad as it did prior to hiring Medina. To make matters worse, Medina have ignored several attempts at contact which has frustrated myself and the residents at our building. I would not recommend Medina in the future. read more

Medina has been nothing but frustrating to deal with. On the board of my condo association and we contracted them for the season. They came and put down mulch in one spot only. Had to contact them to come back to lay mulch in all of the beds. After that never returned for weekly lawn maintenance after trying to contact them over 5 times. No response from anyone. Carlos came and took some measurements, gave us some ideas to think about and then gave us a superimposed rendering of what the landscaping would look like in front of our house and in the parkway. His crew worked in 90 degree heat and couldn't be nicer. I did my best to keep them hydrated. If I had any questions, they either answered it immediately or asked Carlos to give me a call. The landscaping in front of our house along with the parkway is nicer than I could have imagined. We requested a quote for a low fence and gate in the back of the house and the quote was on the high side for the linear footage of installed fence. We requested a more affordable option and we don't even get a call back. They sure were attentive the first time around they worked with us. Not very cool, especially for a return customer. I sure hope they are so busy that they don't need the business. We needed a wrought iron fence put in between our house and our neighbor (shared fence) with two gates to accommodate both side entrances and walks. Carlos and his team at Medina were recommended by a friend so we asked him to come out for an estimate. He was courteous, well prepared and quoted a reasonable price. We used Medina all last spring and summer with weekly lawn cuttings. There were problems. It is difficult to work with their back office. If it rains or their schedule changes they might not show up and they don't give any notice or try to re-book. We had to constantly be managing the service. Toward the end of spring we hired them to re-seed our front lawn and back. They promised to put down fertilizer and something to protect the seeds, but they didn't even seed the first time they came out for this work and when they finally did they just threw seeds down with no fertilizer or protection. We gave up on trying to get them to do the complete job. Lastly, they scalped our lawn. We had an overly thick lawn when we started with them and by the end of summer it was almost all dirt. We thought we were hiring them to take care of our lawn not to just run a mower over it. read more

Carlos was very quick to respond and was able to come over same day for a free estimate. His pricing was very reasonable and him and his team were quick and clean. We love the new dog run as it keeps the rest of the lawn from getting dead spots from the dog. They also raised and leveled both our front and back lawns keeping the water from our house and protecting it. They spruced up our front lawn with a planter box and some nice short trees. I emailed Medina Lawn Care twice to set an appointment for an estimate last spring. This would've been for a spring clean up, and maintenance. I got a reply with the date and time. On the date and time no one showed. I called twice and no one returned my call. Now the kicker I was going home today and workers were cleaning the area around the property. One of the workers was using a gas powered trimmer on Cicero directly in front of their location to cut weeds around a light pole while traffic was stopped. This idiots action pelted peoples cars with small pebbles. When confronted the idiot tried to lie in Spanish and said he did not do it. The workers refused to give me the owners name and never gave a sincere apology. My opinion of the company is they are unprofessional and uncaring. They took such pride in their job and were so easy to work with that I felt comfortable calling to get advice on the arborvitae they had planted for us. Within 10 minutes he returned my call and promised to look at it for me--even though he regularly drives by just to check on our yard! It was starting to brown on the inside and he assured me that it's a normal occurrence in autumn but that he'd look at it and if it needs to be replaced he'd get me a new on that weekend. Really?! Perhaps a Yelp review is the only way to get a response from Medina Lawn Care. I sent a check a week ago (which has cleared) for a spring clean up and have gotten no service at all. We were told that due to a "new policy" that we had to send payment first. Our yard is small, so it should take 30 minutes at the most to have everything done. My other issue with them is that when they came for service last year, they would show up at 7am. My neighbor and I both work nights so we were not pleased about being woken up by mowers and blowers. We called the office about that and were told that "we'll come when we're in the area". Last I checked, normal business hours were 9am to 5pm and people in offices actually answered the phone. I have had the service going on 6 years and have come close to cancelling almost every year the workers do a great job and are very nice , it's the office I have issue with they never answer the phone and you have to leave like 7 messages before you get a call back days later and there is always an excuse as to why they don't answer or return follow up calls, hire more seasonal workers and don't be greedy customers should be the focus. Lawncare should be the least source of headaches for a small landlord but Medina makes it the largest. Their quickbooks billing systems may work great for Medina but not so much for the client. The back office was largely unresponsive to my requests and my needs for more overt address based tracking reference. Separating invoicing by address and making payment from my separate accounts is a legal requirement for an llc. and becomes a bi-monthly nightmare with Medina's system. The latest issue started at the end of Oct. I managed to get every invoice for the season sorted and paid out and then asked Medina to make sure they do a fall cleanup. At first they angrily demanded I pay in advance to which I agreed, then they pointed out that I was actually paid in full and all was good. That cleanup was never accomplished, and when a month later I inquired as to why, 2 new invoices for 280 dollars somehow manifested out of thin air and Medina caustically informed me that any further discussion need be had with their collections agent. So come spring the lawns will be dead due to the leaves piled up all winter, and it's my job to again sort out their accounting. Oh and I have never really been blown away by the service anyway... Mowing and blowing a small Chicago lawn is not exactly an art. Customer service, punctuality and accounting performance are about all that is required... Try someplace else! Particularly If you have more then one account. read more
