We began our conversation with Salvador about a year ago. We had just torn down and rebuilt our garage and needed to landscape the back yard. He came out and provided us with an estimate and drawing, which we loved. However our neighbors were doing a construction project as well that caused us to have to hold off on our project until this year. Salvador came back out, adjusted the original plan to account for the work the neighbors had done, and ultimately provided us with the back yard of our dreams. My 2019 "Business of the Year" award goes to Salvador's Landscaping. This family-run business has been handling our routine lawn care and snow removal for nearly 3 years now. I've contracted other local companies to perform this service in past years with varying results, but this one is superior by far. Salvador himself is friendly and knowledgeable. Communication (by email) has been excellent, and his crew is most reliable and accommodating. Salvador's talents and skills, though, go much further than routine maintenance. If you need shrubs or trees planted, he is brimming with suggestions and options, and you can count on him to do a great job. But he is truly a master at landscape design and brick paving. Our deteriorating driveway and sidewalks needed replacement, so this past summer we contracted Salvador to redesign the landscaping in front of our home and install Unilock brick pavers. From start to finish in just two weeks' time, our property went from resembling a home "on the other side of the tracks" to a showplace that draws compliments from neighbors. I just want to preface this by saying, I'm a residential contractor, specializing in bathrooms and kitchens. I usually only review businesses when they are bad or exceptionally good. Salvador's Landscaping is exceptionally good! I was looking to get my front concrete sidewalk, stairs, and fence/gate done at my home. I called many landscape companies and left messages to call me back. Believe it or not, Maria, from SL, was the only one to return my call and set up a date for Salvador to give an estimate. From the time I met Salvador, I knew he knew his stuff and was very prideful of his work; showing me pictures of his most recent projects. We talked a bit and shared stories of each other's trade; he's a very nice guy. After we agreed on the work to be done and cost of project, I waited patiently for the start date. I was a bit concerned because the weather was not cooperating; 90 degree temps with bouts of torrential rain. But, true to his word, he came on the start date and waited in the trucks for the rain to stop. Salvador and his team worked tirelessly and did such a terrific job; he was mindful of many details I did not think of. After 4 days, while dealing with normal complications and weather issues, Salvador and his team gave my wife and I a beautiful new entrance to our home. We were extremely pleased. Salvador and his team are excellent. We had about 500 sq ft brick and bluestone pavers laid a year ago. I wanted to wait a year before writing a review...the true test of a well built hard scape is how it performs over time. This passes the test. Still drains properly to the drain and has not undergone any heaving or shifting. Salvador is great to talk to, takes pride in his craft and very patient and was willing to work with existing bricks and add bluestone as needed. On top on that when I added an inlet this year and had to tear up a 2x5 section, I contacted them to see if they could help replace bricks. Despite knowing they are very tightly schedule, they got right back in touch--that great customer care! Ended up fixing it myself but their response was very reassuring. read more

Salvador is an untrustworthy businessman. If I could give him zero stars I would. He did work for me then changed the price after. He added an additional $400 for the price of my fence after we had an agreement. He waited until he was finish to do this. It was not due to additional materials because I had a surplus of materials leftover. I had him do 3 different things in a span of 3 weeks. I got a fence, was supposed to get a garage, and had my yard prepared for sod. For the yard I had to have him come back out because my yard still had a lot of roots and had not been leveled as he stated, and it was not in any condition to lay sod. The fence has nails that are visibly protruding on the inside of the wood. I'm concerned because I have animals and they can be injured. It's so many nails! It looks like every nail that was used to too long. I have to find someone else to come and fix this issue. There were several issues I had to call him back to fix for every single project. I specifically asked him for a garage but he framed one full side and partial on the other and tried to charge me for the labor of an entire garage. I currently still have a carport. Now I have to have someone else come out and finish the work. They also left a bunch of trash in my yard for weeks. There's also some permitting issues with the garage. He also told me he would return my material from the jobs because I paid for the material separately. He ended up keeping my material. He lied and told me he returned it and the money would be returned to my card. When I never saw the refund I reached back out to him and that's when the lies started. One lie was that Lowe's did not allow him to return the material because it got wet. Then he lied and said he couldn't return it because it had nails in it, which it didn't. Then he mentioned he didn't do it because he had his family.... When I asked him to refund my money for my materials he then started saying that I owed him some money because he bought more materials that was not discussed. I had to argue with him for a refund. Then he tried to add an additional fee for delivering my materials which was already included in the job. When I made the purchase of the materials I told him I would have it shipped but he agreed to pick it up. He never mentioned a charge until after I requested my refund for my materials he was supposed to return. I spent $8k with Salvador in the span of 3 weeks. Save your money and find a licensed trustworthy professional. If you don't find the right person you end up paying twice. read more

I didn't want to write this during the pandemic due to the challenges to small business but hopefully that is behind us now. Salvador, I don't know how else to communicate with you other than through Yelp but if you ever read this you should know about how Maria in your business office interacts with your customers. After we had been loyal to you for years and always paid on time, Maria got angry with me when I dared to ask about late fees that were imposed after only ten(!) days from the date of the invoice. Then she retaliated by dropping the account the next season. I asked to speak with you directly but she refused, saying she and Maddy were the only ones in charge. You have plenty of competition and we easily found a replacement service but I thought you ought to know about the defensive and vengeful business image being projected. read more

We originally had a cedar fence installed around our backyard. We soon hired Salvador's to install a brick sidewalk to join the existing brick patio because we were so impressed with Salvador's quality of work. The sidewalk was unnoticeably graded to carry rain away from our house and garage. A drain grate was seamlessly installed near the edge of our stairwell. Salvador's then installed five trees and relocated arborvitae all along the fence line for perfect privacy. We will continue to hire Salvador's for other jobs for obvious reasons. Highly recommended!! Salvador and his team were amazing---from the constant communication with Maria to meticulously placing each paver. Salvador supported us through a total rehab of our back patio and sidewalk---removing old pavers/concrete and installing new pavers, steps, retaining walls (for garden beds and a tree), underground drainage pipes, river rock and an arborvitae hedge. Water management was our #1 concern. Salvador was very knowledgeable/experienced in this area and was flexible with our vision but provided straight feedback when he had concerns and even proposed better suggestions than we had imagined. Salvador's care, attention-to-detail and pride in his work is second to none---and this is reflected in the beauty of his craftsmanship. We live on an alley so our patio project became the neighborhood entertainment for the week. I hired Salvador on the recommendation from yelp. He came out for the estimate and Maria got back to us with the plans and a quote. I had to initiate follow up after he was out here but well worth the effort. We finalized the plan and the price and set a date for the work to begin. It was about a month out, but again worth the wait. He put up a retaining wall and for the price it far exceeded my expectations. Salvador takes a lot of pride in his work and is very detailed. After he started, he had a few add on suggestions. He didn't even ask for another penny. And, when I asked could pay for the extras he declined. He simply told me that he wanted people to be happy with the work. This is my first ever Yelp review and it couldn't be for a better reason. It is hard to find people like Salvador these days. Salvador's team came out to my house on 2 very hot days in June. I have 2 non landscaping related stories to share. First, during some downtime when part of the team was waiting for the rest to show up, one of his employees just started watering our plants. It was not related to the work they were doing. He just noticed they could use some water and took it upon himself to keep busy while waiting. Second, we put out a bowl with bottle water and ice in it. When they were packing up for the day, there was some dirt in the bowl and they cleaned it before leaving. To me, both of these are examples of how much care they put into their work. read more

About 3 years ago I had Salvador's lay sod in my backyard in the late fall. I was happy at first but come spring it was obvious the grass had not fared well -- there were dead spots all over the yard. I felt I'd done everything correctly. I called and messaged to see if they'd come out and let me know what could be done, and indicated I was willing to discuss cost, but no one got back to me. I planted some seed in rough spots and was able to keep the lawn reasonable for a couple of seasons. Then this last late summer/fall/early winter we had lots of heavy rain and it became apparent that there is no drainage AT ALL in the yard -- under the grass is just gravel, but not in a good supplying drainage way, rather hard, packed, can't get a shovel in there rock. I am not sure if they laid down gravel before laying the sod or if that's what was there after they took up the old, crappy weeds that were in the yard when we moved in -- as the project was completed one day while we were at work. Now my yard is all mud. The grass is entirely dead despite my best efforts. I wonder, had they returned my call when I reached out after that first winter if they would have seen the overarching issue at that time and have been able to help save our yard. As it is we will now be investing in another sod job 3 years later. read more

This is the second time using Salvador's Landscaping. We first used his service in October 2019 to design the front of our house. This time we asked him to design our rear yard. The outcome was beyond our expectations. He turned a average back yard to a oasis to relax or entertain. He designed a patio with a sitting wall as well as beautiful plants. We have 2 mini Golden doodles that love to tear up the grass. Salvador included artificial dog grass which not only looks great and they can't tear it up. The dogs love it. As soon as the snow melts away and the grass underneath reveals the dead brown and yellow, my thoughts turn to spring... and Salvador's Landscaping. In an annual ritual no different than the first robin, the first spring flower or the first barbecue outside, calling Salvador to get booked on his spring yard cleanup list is something I've done each year for the past 6 years now. Like every year, Salvador's crew arrives with their long covered trailer and promptly get to work, raking up dead vegetation, clearing off flower beds, pruning away dead branches on shrubbery and leaf-blowing immense amounts of the brown and yellow thatch to reveal the first hints of green grass bringing hope of warmer days to come. Salvador's crew came by this week for me and as always, did a fantastic job cleaning up the yard both in front and in back. They must've spent close to 2 hours grooming the grass and flower beds so that I can get started working on my planting for the growing season in the coming weeks. I can't believe how happy landscaping has made me! I came home one night and our condo building's 1970s style arborvitae had been ripped out and our dog abused grass was no longer there. It was as if some sort of landscape fairy had magically replaced the outdated, poorly maintained shrubs with new mulch, barberries and ornamental perennial grasses and then left without a trace. It wasn't a fairy...in fact Salvador probably wouldn't like being called a fairy. My consultation with Salvador was great. I asked for his ultimate design for the space and then an economical design. We had to go with the economical design that is a good base to build onto a more elaborate garden. We will definitely use Salvador in the future for our upgrades. With regards to planting materials, he assured me that he only uses material that can withstand the harsh winters READ: they must be grown somewhere in the Midwest or farther north. Finally, he and his crew were really tidy--sidewalks were swept, containers disposed of, you name it and it was orderly. Maria takes all of Salvador's phone calls (I think it is his wife). She is very helpful and incredibly sweet. She was always prompt in returning calls or giving status updates. Definitely two thumbs up for Salvador. read more

I called for a quote in June, and Salvador came out the next evening to discuss the project I had in mind. We had some overgrown bushes in the front of our home that needed removal and replacement, red lava rocks (ugh) that I wanted moved to the south side of the house in the 12" gap between our home and the neighbors' fence (to keep the weeds from growing), and a lawn full of dandelions that I could not seem to get rid of on my own. Salvador was very friendly, his cost was reasonable, and based on that and the reviews I found here, I did not seek additional quotes for the work. I scheduled the work 2 months out because I called too late, and they were booked up. On the scheduled date, Salvador and two other men arrived on-time and ready to go. Both workers were very pleasant and professional, and allowed me to take pictures of their progress (I was excited). It was a nice day, and thankfully not too hot, but I still offered them beverages which they accepted with many thanks. The work they did is exactly how I envisioned it to be, and looks wonderful! He even offered to weed and mulch my poor new hostas along the fence, which we had not previously discussed. (Apparently they were looking a bit rough), I am so happy, and plan to have them back (hopefully next spring) when I figure out what we want to do with our backyard. Call in advance if you have a large job to do, as they are booked solid by the end of spring. However, the office did tell me that they work in the smaller jobs, as they are able. We got the quote on Monday and Tuesday he was doing the work (we were lucky that he happened to hit our neighborhood on Tuesday as part of his team's regular jobs).
