Solid sub place! Whenever the beau and I are in Canton or Potsdam for a hockey game, we inevitably stop here. Good food, insanely reasonable prices, and great service. We aren't from the area and clearly this is a haunt frequented by locals. Everyone knew each other, yet, they didn't seem to mind that we were outsiders. Food is great. Soft bread (try the garlic roll!), Reasonably high quality meat, and quick service. I never seem to be disappointed here. It sort of has the feel of an old school deli. read more

this is our third time calling in a order over the phone and our food has not been right. the order they take is correct but what they put on a sub is wrong! I do not understand how they can mess it up when I got there there was no one in there besides one person that was already cashing out and 2 people walked in after I did to pick it up. lesson learned and I'll now make everyone else wait while I order large amounts of subs. read more

I can only say Jrecks is OK. The service is quick, the restaurant was clean, the sub was good, but not great. My standard is set by Wegman's. I ordered a whole buffalo chicken sub on an onion roll, provolone, and lettuce and I substituted ranch instead of bleu. There weren't many more toppings to possibly add. I'm used to being offered onions, peppers, olives, cucumbers, shakers (parm cheese, pepper, salt, oregano). The sub came cut in half with two tenders of chicken on each half. To compare, Wegmans gives 6 or 7 tenders to their whole sub. The tenders were grilled rather than fried, which is a bit healthier, but I really expected some breading to add a bit of crunch. The choices of bread were white, wheat, or onion. I'm used to having more choices like, sesame, ciabatta, and everything (which I assume they could make since they do their own bread; just buy some everything seasonings (garlic, poppy, sesame, and take some onion from the onion roll they already have)). The sub was good. I paid just over $10 for the whole sub and a drink. There are deals that give you drinks and fries at lunchtime, but only for half subs; I was determined to eat a whole. I ate the whole sub with still some appetite left; that never happens at Wegman's (for the same price). If you need a sub, you can get one here, but as far as sub chains go, this isn't in my top 5. If you can stand to wait 20 minutes, I recommend going a block down to Little Italy and getting their 12-inch buffalo chicken. The prices were similar, but the chicken and the wing sauce are notably better and their toppings were equally fresh. I know a lot of the folks around here rave about Jrecks, but I think it's mostly because they haven't ventured far enough to find better. read more

I called Canton, New York's Jrecks Sub. I ordered a pizza sub with sausage, onions and peppers. On the phone they didn't say anything about not having what I ordered and I drove 10 miles to pick up my sub came home. when I open the sub I had A pepperoni onion and mushroom sub. I called the store several times the phone was only answered once it was picked up and hung back up so I use my cell phone to call and they answered right away. When I complained about my sub they told me they didn't have any sausage, so they just made the sub and never said a word when it was picked up that it was different. I don't care if have aA pepperoni onion and mushroom sub. First off, i feel bad for all the people giving this sandwich shop 5 stars. Obviously you have never eaten a good sub sandwich or have low standards due to the current lowest common denominator mentality at these national chains. I used to go to Jrecks all the time when i was in high school and even in college. So today i went into the Jrecks subs in Canton with an appetite for a great sub at a decent price. The employees were friendly and helpful as i decided on an Italian Combo sub which has Ham, Salami, and Pepperoni. I also chose to have provolone cheese, pepper rings, pickles and hot pepper relish along with spices, oil and parm. Once the sandwich was in the bag and in my hand i realized i had been duped. In the years between my last Jrecks sub and now it seems that corporate greed has overtaken quality and what i had in my bag was a miserable excuse for a sub sandwich and not nearly what i had eaten 20 years ago. I was basically a more expensive Subway sandwich, which means cheap, cheap, cheap. I was so disappointed i didn't even eat the sandwich, i could barely look at it i was so disgusted. I went to the Price Chopper in Potsdam and looked for sandwiches. You could get a decent one for $.50 more than the Subw-- er, I mean Jrecks sub, but it still didn't meet the standard. So i bought everything i needed to make the sandwich i ordered at Jrecks PROPERLY and it cost me about $4. And this is at grocery store prices. If i were to make it with wholesale costs it would be roughly half that amount. So if my sandwich at Jrecks cost $4.50 using cheap, inferior ingredients and miserly portions, i wonder how much profit is in that sandwich. It probably cost them $1 or less to make it. I realize that I haven't been into a Jrecks for a long time, but it's still no excuse for the race to the bottom they are apparently in with Subway. Don't go there, don't go to Subway, go to a locally owned sandwich shop or make it yourself. read more

Absolutely no better subs than at Jrecks. Italian combo is my favorite, with the hot peppers, oil and shakers, and their bread is the best. Subway is bland and tasteless by comparison. Whenever I visit northern NY, I have to get me some Jrecks! read more
