Joseph Musto, the owner of the business is, as my grandmother would say, a mensch. We lived in Great neck until 2005 and had jewelry made for my wife on several occasions. Upon moving to California, we still had a few pieces done by Joseph, always of great quality and fair price. September 5, we celebrated our 50th anniversary. In commemoration, my wife wanted a diamond anniversary band. We shopped it in LA and then called Joseph to explain what we saw and desired. He offered advice as to how best to construct it. I have been going to Jrm Jewelers for about fifteen years. I am always impressed by Joseph. It doesn't matter if I am looking for an expensive or inexpensive item, he always treats me as a valued customer. Just today I went to him to have two ID bracelets remodeled for my two granddaughters, surely not a large job for him. The bracelets are from my childhood and over 50 years old. He spent an hour with my husband & me, discussing the various ways to keep the tradition of the pieces yet make them more contemporary. I had a credit from 2015 on a scrap of paper that I hoped to use to pay for the work. I told him I didn't think that I had used it as of yet but really, I had no proof. He said to me "If you tell me that this credit is valid, I believe you". Joseph is honest, helpful & personable. I have been a client of Joseph's since I was able to start buying Jewelry (the good stuff :). My family has been working with Joseph since he opened the store as well. My husband bought my engagement ring there and at that point it was really scary for him to spend that much on one purchase (I swear I was surprised so there was no pressure from me!) and Joseph educated him and made him feel very comfortable with the budget. Hi, my name is Joseph Musto, I am the proud owner of JRM Jewelers. I thought it was important to write a statement on this review page regarding a review that was written by Adrienne Z. in 2016. As a retail store owner and jewelry manufacturer in Great Neck for over 24 years, my reputation speaks for itself. I honestly wasn't even going to waste my time in response to Adrienne Z review from over 1 year ago which just came to my attention, but considering the entire review is false, I thought it was important for people to know the real story. Yes, it is true that i have worked with other parts of her family through marriage and that i did sell her a beautiful GIA certified diamond at a fabulous price, thats about the only part of her review thats true! Her engagement ring was made with the utmost of care, as we do with the other large amounts of engagement rings and other fine pieces of jewelry I sell each year. Any concern, that Adrienne had with her ring, i explained to her it would be my pleasure to correct in my Great Neck location. She was aware through conversations we had, that i have an office on 47th street in the diamond district where i do my manufacturing. However, do to my hectic and very busy schedule while im in the city, I was unable to offer her an appointment in the city to her convience. Adrienne Z didnt like the idea that I couldn't accommodate her in the city, rather then coming into Great Neck. However, to create such statements as she has written in her review, are down right low and wrong to do. Having a jewelry business in Great Neck for a very, very long time with over 15,000 clients that stem locally in Great Neck, to as far as California, even to Australia, I think its very important to put Adrienne Z comments in perspective. She was obviously very disappointed i couldn't extend my self to set up an appointment in my office in the city, but to make false statements about the quality of a ring, thats just wrong. I can offer Adrienne Z., a list of 100's, if not 1000's of satisfied customer's that would contradict all of her malice statements. Regarding, her comments that other jewelers agreed with her thoughts, unfortunately in all businesses, when a person sees an opportunity to "knock" a competitors item, they will do so in a heart beat, especially in the jewelry industry. Either way, my business in Great Neck is thriving tremendously because of the many, many, many loyal customers that I have had the privilege to work with through the past years. In 24 years i have never done any advertisements(zero), all my business has been and continues to be from word of mouth and recommendations. I was looking up the phone number for JRM jewelers in Great Neck and happened upon a scathing review and thought there must be some mistake!! -and there most certainly is. I've been a customer for over 20 years, as has my extended family. This person has an agenda and frankly her observations don't ring true. He's never invested in his product-only yours. Sadly, businesses like this are few and far between now-old world service and standards, meaning courtesy, honesty, with the utmost of professional competence-- always. I've brought in several pieces that needed updating, and Joseph always has many creative ideas-he knows and works with his customer's tastes and is spot on each time. We were strongly referred to Joe through family, as they had done business with him for many years. While Joe found us a lovely oval diamond stone for my engagement ring, he seemed to ignore my very clear and detailed requests for the setting, which I found to be both insecure and unsophisticated. The stone was set too high with an obvious space between the base of it and the setting (making it look cheap, frankly), and the arms of the prongs showed signs of being oddly bent and scraped. The shape of the four prongs were also inconsistent and not claw-shaped as I had asked. The stone sat off-center when viewed from the side -- all strong reasons to be concerned for the stone's safety. I was surprised that such work would be considered acceptable by such an experienced professional (admittedly, I didn't want to offend my sweet fiancé so I didn't make a stink about it). Later on, I had hoped to work with Joe to build a customized complimenting wedding band. It was hard for us to get out to Long Island (to his store) and had hoped to see him when he made trips into Manhattan, since it would be easier for us coming from Brooklyn -- but he showed no interest in trying to make it work. After a couple email exchanges (where WE tried to arrange a date) it was clear that we weren't a priority for him. Needless to say, we ended up working with another jeweler on the wedding band. When I then decided once and for all to have Joe fix the engagement setting he clearly took personal offense to our having worked with another jeweler on the wedding band and simply refused to stand by his product as a result. I even referred back to the original specific details I had first requested of the setting -- he continued to say "he couldn't help." For such an experienced professional and friend of the family to not show the respect and diligence to want to ensure that his work was both stellar and satisfactory came as a shock to us. If he were truly confident in his abilities, then he surely wouldn't have let anything (including blatant defensiveness) stand between himself and his reputation -- but alas. So I write this review to warn that you should be careful in working with Joe both in terms of ensuring that he delivers on your specific asks, and in regards to any longstanding commitment to you as a valued customer. Additionally: since I had consulted with multiple jewelers when looking to make the wedding band, I was ultimately told repeatedly that the engagement ring setting was unacceptable, justifying my objective concerns -- jewelers quoted that it "clearly wasn't made for an oval stone but a round one," that "the prongs had been forced and showed signs of damage upon being set," that "the setting was what they call a 'casting' (and is rather cheap)," that "the setting was too small for the size of the stone," and that "it was strange for someone to allow such a beautiful stone to be placed in such a vulnerable way." You can imagine how this made both of us feel. Be careful working with Joe. Despite his potentially positive reputation and finding us a lovely diamond, his lack of professionalism, customer service and dedication to his own product was both concerning and hugely disappointing. I have since had the engagement ring setting repaired by one of the other jewelers and am very happy. Needless to say, I'm not going to let this negative experience with Joe taint something so important. read more

My parents have been going to Joseph for years, and have had only the best things to say about the quality of his work and the type of business he run. His jewelry speaks for itself - each piece that they have gotten from him (some custom, some his design) has been high quality and beautiful. My mother in particular always gets compliments on his pieces. I felt compelled to leave this review after Joseph made a custom wedding band to go with my engagement ring. I no longer live on Long Island, but he was still able to work with me over the phone (with the help of my mother stopping in to give him my engagement ring). Not only did he do BEAUTIFUL work, but his pricing was more than fair. Joseph is not someone who has ever tried to upsell any of my family members on anything, so for those who have never been to his studio, you will not be given any hard sales push.
