I'm writing a review of our experience with JR Tree Care because we had a great experience (and also because the reviews below are inconsistent and undersell JR). After we called Brian, he came to give an estimate the next AM. Brian arrived on time to give a thoughtful estimate and provided the written documentation he promised within hours. His team arrived at the planned time 2 days later. They worked carefully, addressing our specific requests and concerns. Their work was neat, careful, and safe, and they didn't leave until the yard was cleaner than they found it. We can't imagine anyone doing a better job for a better price. read more

Julie Hurd BAD experience!! The people were nice and pleasant and cleaned up some smaller areas, but then they left us with huge giant pieces. I called and called, they never returned for the rest of the tree, What do we do with this?? Massive pieces of tree left behind and we paid for the complete removal of the tree. As I questioned to hold back a bit of the payment the owner on the phone said to pay the bill in full. The tree cutter guy said they will be back in the morning to get those giant pieces. Never showed. So Distrustful !!! Such a scam and they take your money. read more

Want your tree removed and get ripped off by very idiotic people??? Hire these rude people with terrible customer service! After telling them not to be on MY property to cut MY tree, they went ahead and done it regardless due to being money hungry. I was being nice by calling and telling them to simply not to get on my property and cut my own tree down. The service lady said, "Sure no problem sir". Next thing I know there are 7 people on my property cutting my tree because my neighbor hired them. The manages at the site including the customer supports says, "well you didn't pay for it right? & Btw, its better now because the hurricanes are on the way". Bunch of money hungry idiots! Yesterday, September 30, 2024, They men from JR's Tree Service cam to my backyard to remove six (6) trees. The job they did was amazing! It was professionally done and did a great job! BEWARE: My next-door neighbor hired J&R to remove a huge oak tree in between our houses two years ago, damaging his gutters and three of my new gutters. They dug up a few shrubs on the property line, saying they would put everything back in place. But they broke the trunk of one shrub, killing it, and left the other plants in a pile. My neighbor's backyard had ridges from the wheels of their heavy boom truck and wood chipper. My neighbor specifically chose J&R because it had insurance. I called Mark who supervised the work onsite to complain but he said his client needs to deal with him directly. He told my neighbor a few times he would go to assess the damage but he never did. It has now been two years of chasing down J&R, but Mark and others at the company have consistently ignored my neighbor's emails and letter with photos of the damage, phone calls and text messages. read more

A total scam company. No supervisor ever came to oversee job as promised. Crew did not speak or understand English so basically no communication was able. They were to trim one tree and remove another and they must have received wrong information as they started to remove both. By the time we caught them they had already destroyed the tree that was to be trimmed. The owner was nasty and aggressive on the phone when confronted with our problem. As they were paid upfront we had no recourse. I would run as fast as I can and never use them. read more

This company came to remove tree from neighbors yard and ended up ruining my landscaping with their machines. When I asked who would fix it they responded by saying they weren't responsible and I should just buy seed to fix there doing. They continue to working while making a jokes out of my response to them messing my landscaping and making a mess of my backyard with pieces of wood everywhere including in my pool. I contacted owner and he said he would take care of it and never showed up. They are unresponsive and their workers were extremely rude. This company is very unprofessional. read more

They charged us $3,800 to cut down a tall tree. Our neighbor wanted to have their big tree to be trimmed at the same time. But the workers negotiated to the neighbor directly and they took their job at $1,000 in cash! It's totally unfair! Unreliable! read more

Needed some tree work. Called them..a representative came and gave me an estimate. He was very knowledgeable...told me EXACTLY what they were going to do and WHY!!! I left him a small deposit and set up an appointment. AN ARMY of workers and equipment showed up on time. They were efficient, respectful of my yard and my neighbors and left the place cleaner than it was before. I HIGHLY recommend them. read more

This business is extremely reliable and responsible. From the time we called for an estimate to the very end of their service they communicate and kept me in the loop every step of the way. They got the permit to trim the branches hanging over our property which took about two weeks and they scheduled an appointment to get it done. When they got here they did exactly what was asked for and then some. They cleaned up all the twigs that was left behind. Everyone was polite and friendly and smile when spoken to. If your time means nothing to you, call this service. I was told someone would be coming to give an estimate at 12pm. I waited an hour. When no one came, I called the number of the person who was supposed to come. No answer. I called the direct number to the business to see what was going on. About 20 minutes later I received a call from the person who was supposed to come. He said he could be there in about a half hour. Really?? At that point he would have shown up 2 hrs later than when I was originally told and that's IF he actually showed. He couldn't have at least called me to say he was running late?? No thank you, there are plenty of other services to choose from. read more

I used this tree service in the past with no issues but would not definitely recommend now! I felt they took advantage of my elderly mom by 1st charging an astronomical amount to trim a cherry blossom tree and then by pressuring her by stating that the tree was dying and should really be removed. I showed pics of the tree to two experienced landscapers and both stated that the tree still had plenty of life left. However, since my mom had agreed and left a cash deposit we had no choice but to go with removal instead at $2,000 since $1,500 for a trimming was cost prohibitive. I had them cut down a big tree in the back of my house a few years ago. They did a good job and were reasonably priced. I called requesting a quote to grind up 3 small tree stumps. I texted him a picture. He never called me back and ignored my call. I guess they are not interested in small jobs. read more

Showed up quickly, estimate was fair considering the ridiculous price given by another vendor. Job was completed professionally and in a timely manner. They removed a large Oak tree and 2 Evergreens and they cleaned up all the little bushes as well! All stumps were removed and ground. read more

I had a large unruly red plum tree which I love but which had grown out of control in my backyard. I didn't even feel like going back there to grill because it was dark and buggy and I had to bend over due to all the low-hanging branches literally getting in my hair. JR came to the rescue and gave me a very fair price and trimmed the tree beautifully. He also cleaned up perfectly. There was not one branch or leaf left in my yard. JR is a gentleman who keeps his word and is always on time. I can assure you there is no one else in New York who does what he does. I will be giving him additional business. Jeff came by the house and gave us a great estimate and wrote price on the card. He stick with quote he gave to us. We called him in a day to ask him to start. We cut one dead tree and another tree that was hanging over to neighbor's backyard. They arrived 15 mins early at 7AM and ring our bell to let us know they were ready to start. I saw one guy with all gear up climbed on tree to cut from all the way top to down. Because the tree is surround with wires so he cut very carefully. I asked Jeff (the owner) that i wanted to cut down two more small planet. He gave me very fair price. They started clean up right after their job. Very professional. I highly recommend Jeff and his team! My tree was rooting too close to the house and large branches were about to fall down. I called Jeff and he came over the next day to do an estimate. The prices were great (compared to some other places I had quoted) and he came on a weekend with his team to do the job. It took an hour or less and his team was highly efficient! They cleaned up amazingly well (no joke when people said they did a great job clearing the debris, I was skeptical of it at first but they really did a great job)! Be wary of this service. Hired by neighbor and they were NOT careful of my property. Continuously dropped large tree limbs on my house and when they were asked to be more careful.....the supervisor began screaming at me and my husband. Obviously they are not interested in repeat or referred business, as the workers have NO customer service skills. They cracked a spindle on my deck, as well as lost pieces to my deck table after we had to recover pieces they lost.......and told them not to move again......they did anyway! I think this business is picking and choosing neighborhoods they work in based on demographics. They say they service Brooklyn but refuse to work in Bedford Stuyvesant. I called this business to ask for an estimate. The woman who claimed to own the business called me back from 631-804-903, and claims their business is in Brooklyn but doesn't want to go that far in Brooklyn to Bedford Stuyvesant in response to why they won't go there! Highly recommended! I previously had a terrible experience with another tree company when trying to remove 2 trees in my yard. I was super nervous when i called JR but was pleasantly surprised when they gave me a quote which was literally half the price of the place i previously attempted to have my trees removed with. It took them less than 30mins to take down the 2 trees n clean up on the day of removal. They came back the following week to remove the stump and that was also a quick process. I called two weeks ago to get an estimate for removing 2 trees, overgrown shrubs, overgrown ivy and vines that had taken over my house. About ten years ago I needed some backyard trees to be cut down, so I called JR Tree Service. A guy named Jeff showed up, asked intelligent questions and quoted a fair price. I gave JR the job and they performed to my complete satisfaction. The crew was led by Jeff and to my limited tree knowledge, they did everything right. They were efficient, they had the right equipment, and they cleaned up unbelievably well. About three years ago, Hurricane Sandy knocked down a large Norway maple at the front of my house. So I called the NYC Parks Dept and was told they would take care of removal. A few days later, I was startled to see JR Tree Service removing the tree. Obviously, JR does tree removal for NYC. In my eyes, this was a big job, yet once again, everything was done right. A few weeks ago, I decided to have three driveway trees taken down. I called JR...Jeff showed up...I gave JR the job...and the ending was the same. This time, a ton of branches fell in my neighbor's back yard and even she agrees that the cleanup was remarkable -- she didn't have to lift a finger. read more

Excellent service and proficiency, scheduling and pricing was quick and easy. Called them in for tree trimming, they cleaned up all the fallen leaves and shrub which is always a plus. Only tip I have is to probably accommodate parking for them since the wood chipper takes a quite a bit of space. read more

We've used Jeff's services for our big tree in the backyard twice in the last three months, and both experiences were great. He always called back right away, and he always showed up when he said he would. He explored the different scenarios with us, from straightforward pruning to full removal. The second time, we needed to go with complete removal of the tree, and his workers were efficient, polite and professional. They had to take our fence down to get the wood out, and they put everything back the way it was when they finished.
