We used Guardian in 2010, when we needed to install a radon system to settle the sale of our home. We found Chris to be upfront, obviously knowledgeable, open about the process and the costs, and very reliable in all areas - response time, executing the work, explaining the work, and following through on all aspects of what was discussed. We had a quick ( less than 30 day) close, and with all the other arrangements that entailed, it was a great help to realize Guardian would make this part absolutely worry free. When (just a month later) we found ourselves in need of a radon system at our "new" (old!) house, there was no need to hesitate or consider anyone else - we just called Guardian and knew what we were getting. We appreciated the little things - like the fact that on both houses Chris took the time to determine what would be the least obtrusive but effective spot to install, color matched the vent pipe to minimize the appearance, explained the steps he was taking as he did the install and what he was noticing about our particular case, etc. In the new house, he took the time to point out how one install option might be easiest for him, but he had a concern about whether the vibration from his saw might disturb some old interior brickwork. We did it that way and it was fine, but he raised it for me to consider rather than making any assumptions (or taking the path of least trouble and failing to even notice the concern, as I expect many would). Most recently, I noticed that our unit seemed to be on but not working properly (no pressure from the fan). I thought "oh no... what do I have to do to deal with this?". But all it took was an email to Chris - after a very brief electronic back and forth to check some troubleshooting ideas, he came out and replaced the fan motor unit under warranty, and I didn't even have to be home for it. Just got home and it was working again, no hassle to me. Which, frankly, was almost a disappointment because he and his team were nice folks, pleasant to talk with and ready to answer questions from overly curious homeowners like myself. Bottom line: if you're in need of radon work, call Guardian - they're honest, they know their stuff on all aspects of the work (even to the satisfaction of picky research-it-all-myself types like me), they do what they say they'll do, and they'll take a lot of your worries right out of the whole scary radon process as well. read more

I had a high radon test results of 8.5 and 12.5 on two different levels of my home when tested by DuPage Radon testing Co during my home inspection. I asked around for a Co that can help out to install Radon Mitigation system in a short time window of two weeks. I had no luck with any of the Companies in the area and I was irritated by the all the Companies that I called as they have no consideration of the whole owners emergency needs in this situation. I called my Attorney, Mr James Flanagan and explained the situation of unavailability of any Co in the area to do the installation. He referred me to Guardian Radon Mitigation & Electrical Services" and asked me to talk to Mary Anne or Chris, the owners and assured me that they will take care of me. I did call Mary Anne and explained the desperate situation that we are in. Indeed, Mary Anne calmed me down and assured me that they will accomidate putting me on the scheduled in a week time so I can have time to retest Radon and meet the dead line for the time to close. Not only they did an excellent job but also they are very knowledgable, friendly and compassionate. Radon was an issue in the subdivision and on our street as we found out after talking to the neighbors. We did the store bought tests and every time the results showed elevated radon readings. We had Guardian Radon come out to our Naperville home and install a radon mitigation system. We have a concrete covered crawlspace and a concrete basement floor. They looked at the locations where the system could exit the house and made suggestions as to where the best place would be from an aesthetic point of view, as well as running the electrical to a convenient location for future service/maintainance. They set up the system to blend in well with the architectural features of the house, so the exit piping is integrated into the lines of the house and is not noticeable. (Our radon levels are now way way down where they should be as well!). After they installed the radon system, we had them install two photocell garage lights (on our newly sided home which had no previous garage door lights outside) and the job looks great. They also rewired a sump pump circuit that had been a problem for many years. So we then had Guardian come back about a year and a half later to do some electrical work on an outdoor enclosed gazebo. This involved runiing 220V to our spa, and running all the conduit and wall plates, outlets, outdoor lights, switches, and ceiling fans. I would highly recommend Guardian. Chris is a good guy and runs a good business that you can trust in. It isn't easy finding people you can trust to do good work. I honestly didn't think of doing a radon test until my realtor son, Ryan Carney, with Keller Williams Inspire, Geneva, suggested to have my house tested. He had sold a house in my neighborhood, and learned the house failed the inspection for radon. Well, so did mine. Not wanting to be living in a house with a failed reading, Ryan, suggested having Mike come out and take a look and inform me of what I needed to do. Mike was specific and professional; I felt very comfortable with his knowledge and work ethic. The team of contractors were here at 7 am, incurred some problems with the procedure of drilling through concrete and other obstacles; It presented quite a challenge; but they stayed until the job was completed. The team worked well together. Even though the job took longer than they expected, I wasn't upcharged at all. On a side note, I looked at the ladder they were using, and I mentioned that I could really use a ladder like that to change a lightbulb in my family room with a cathedral ceiling. I didn't have access to a tall enough ladder, besides, wouldn't feel comfortable climbing up high. Mike offered to change it for me. Brought in a ladder and changed it for me. I was so appreciative of his kindness. In addition to that, I asked if he had a drill that would make a hole in a ceramic planter I just bought. No problem, within a few minutes that job was cheerfully done for me. So, not only did this company mitigate the radon issue, they were so helpful with a couple jobs I wasn't sure how I was going to do them. Just down to earth good, honest people. read more

My wife and I were in need of a radon mitigation firm to take care of our higher than allowed reading that came back on our house. The first company we contacted was Guardian and Maryanne in the office who took our call was very pleasant and knowledgeable filling us in with information for us to get started by setting up a appointment for Chris to come out and survey the house, give us an estimate, what work will be performed and any issues that might arise. When Chris came out he was very knowledgeable explained other issues having to do with radon and its impacts. We had contacted another mitigation company they wanted to know square footage of house, full basement or crawl giving a price without even looking at the house. Radon was not on my radar until we tested our levels and saw that they were about 4x over the recommended safe levels (!). After doing a Yelp search, I came across Guardian. From beginning to end, this company was a pleasure to work with, was consultative and, most importantly, fixed our radon issue. Mary Anne patiently and thoroughly answered all of the questions I had and got us scheduled for an in-person quote. Chris showed up promptly at the agreed time of quote, wearing a mask, and again was extremely thorough in explaining how a radon mitigation system works, what to expect on install day and the cost of the job (very fair in our opinion). Everything sounded good and we agreed to have the work done. I was amazed by the excellent reviews when I first researched Guardian Radon. Now having met Chris and the team and having them install my radon mitigation system, all I can say is that if I could give them more than 5 stars I would! Their customer service and quality of workmanship sets the standard for any business. If all contractors were even half as good as Guardian the world would be a better place. Here's why I'm giving this glowing review: I had tons of questions and when Chris came over to do the estimate, he probably spent almost 2 hours with me answering every single question and explaining exactly how a radon mitigation system works. I tested my basement for radon and the reading was 7.8. I contacted Guardian from a referral from a relative to have an estimate. Chris came out and explained the complete system and where it was to be installed. I decided to go with Guardian with my cousin's recommendation and the high reviews on yelp. Everything was completed in about 2.5 hours and tarps were put down in the front entrance way and the stairs going to the basement. When the job was completed, everything inside and out were totally cleaned up. Chris explained the total system before he left. My test equipment shows a level of .78 today. He said to wait 24 hours before I tested again and I was eager to retest so this figure may be high, however it is below 1. I highly recommend Guardian to install a radon mitigation system. The total installation looks great! Also, I have to note Mary Anne, Business manager, was very pleasant and helpful in scheduling and answering questions. We recently did our own test and found a need for radon mitigation. Found Guardian with an internet search and was really impressed with their website. Chris came out and gave us a detailed estimate that also included some electrical work. We were pleased with the estimate and scheduled the work. We found our forever home, signed a contract, and then it failed the radon testing on inspection quite badly. Guardian Radon is a local company who knows our town, knows our neighborhoods, and was wonderful in thoroughly evaluating our home upon our first meeting. The house was built in the 70's, had additions in the 80's and exists over 3 different cement slabs - it was complex to say the least. The Guardian team came out in subzero weather, explained what the challenges were, how they planned to work on them; all while keeping me well informed. My Radon levels we elevated and I knew something had to be done. .So being an Aircraft Mechanic and a do it yourselfer, I contacted several Radon Mitigation Companies to investigate their system installation process and cost.
