I was pleasantly surprised. We got Singapore Noodles (spicy), sesame chicken, egg roll, vegetable fried rice, and wonton soup. First of all, the portions are HUGE. Second, when going into the restaurant... the place was spic and span clean with a clear view of their kitchen. The delivery man was nice, but the food is very bland no flavor at all. I ordered Yang chow fried rice, the rice was too soft for fried rice, no eggs, not much of anything in there, I love Singapore noodles, I ordered Singapore noodles spicy, but it wasn't spicy at all, the noodles were mushy, not much of anything in there either, it's just bunch of yellow mushy noodles so most of the noodles went to trash and I hate wasting food, and their Kung pao chicken wasn't Kung Pao chicken I've been eating, they just put thin slices of chicken instead of thicker smaller pieces, and put pieces of carrot and celery(?) in some brown sauce, no green onions or red hot chilis then put plain nuts on top, I would call this peanuts on chicken, good thing I was very hungry so I ate some chicken but the half of it went to trash... I just ordered take out yesterday and was not disappointed! I placed my order online and was able to pick up my food in twenty minutes. Our regular Chinese Take-out closed due to COVID so we tried J's for the first time tonight and it was excellent! Mongolian Beef was flavorful and tender, Mu Shoo Pork was tasty and pancakes didn't disintegrate in your hand from the sauce. A generous carton of white rice and traditional fortune cookies were included without charge. Phoned in our order and when they said it would be ready in 45 minutes I said "You must be busy for a Tuesday night." They replied: "No, it's because everything is freshly prepared." Surprise! A close-to-me Chinese Restaurant that actually has a clue. The Orient Place-Orient Diner-Orient Kitchen is the place I have been going to since taking Chinese cooking classes in the 1980's. I learned what this cuisine is all about, and although none of these places is actually "authentic" in the strictest sense, they are good enough! Since my fav place (Orient Kitchen) is now far away from my house, I have been looking for something close (convenient delivery) that is good. My order from "J's Kitchen" the other night was certainly good. Three items I usually use to check out a place without giving them a tough job: egg roll, wings, shrimp lo mein. Not really challenging. The egg roll was fine, the wings were battered with a tempura-like coating, and the shrimp lo mein actually used lo mein noodles! Many "Chinese" restaurants use spaghetti in this dish for some reason. Whatever; I only go to them once. The egg roll was stuffed--lots of cabbage, but still very good. The wings were fine; they needed a bit more evenly-disbursed flavor--marinating longer??--and the batter was a bit limp due to delivery time, but better than 95% of the wings I have had from Chinese restaurants. The lo mein was chock full of small shrimp and some proper veggies. Like almost all lo mein dishes, it would have been better with a bit less oil and a bit more seasoning and veggies, but it was as good as I have had from a local place. We are in from out of town and looking for some Chinese take out and of course turned to trusty yelp, which rarely lets me down. This time we were sadly let down. We ordered several menu items for family style, most of it was flavorless. The general tso's chicken had no spice in it. We barely touched the chicken in the cashew chicken. The veggies and lo mein were both well done. I think the most dissapointing was the fried wantons...had chicken inside not cream cheese, which was probably my fault for not reading more closely what was in a wonton but I have never has a chicken fried wonton before...ever...when ordering fried wontons.
