TLDR - Fellow tourists, it worths the drive out of downtown to eat. Overall, 4 star value.
We were tourists staying downtown where many good restaurants were, but we found the value, as in food-portion-price ratio, a bit lower. Don't get me wrong; the food was good, but we wanted better value. So we trekked 5 km out of downtown to where many chains opened shops and the locals dined.
We came to J's Roadhouse on a Monday evening. It wasn't packed so we were seated promptly. We were immediately told that all appetizers were 30% off. So we ordered appetizers for dinner. The Flatbread Pizza ($16 regular price) was served hot and delicious. The poriton was generous, almost an app for 4 people or dinner for 2. The Appetizers Platter was huge. It could feed 3 people as dinner easy. The platter had fries, onion rings, scallops, cheese sticks and picklets, all of which were fried. Everything tasted okay/decent. Nothing surprisingly good or bad. But gosh, it was a good deal at $20 regular price, and a great deal at 30% off.
I estimated that the prices were similar to downtown's, or maybe cheaper by $1 or $2. But the portion was visiably bigger. The food and services was similar to a regular Jack Astor's, Montanna or Kelsey's. In short, better value than downtown. Your money goes further mileage at J's Roadhouse. read more
