This is such a nice cozy place to eat. We love the patio, it's a large open back yard space with lights and trees to the tables with semi glass covers, it was just a relaxing place to be. They had music on Saturday night with a live DJ which was nice. We were actually here twice over the three days we were in town. I ordered a Buddha salad, to be honest the rates was really bland, it really did taste like diet food. This meal had it been given a stronger dressing, maybe a sun dried tomato dressing, it would have increased the flavour profile to a new level. But it came with a tasteless tahini I think... The shishito pepper were nice, but the portion was incredibly small, even though it tasted good, it just wasn't bang for buck... $11 for 8 small peppers. The star of the show was the Buddha pizza. This is what we came here two nights in a row for! This pizza has a ton of topping, they weren't stingy by any means! The perfect balance between salty meats and spicy peppers, thin crust, and a delicious sauce! Omg wow! I'm considering moving here for this thing alone! We ordered the passion fruit marg, it was very tasty, but it wasn't slushy like I expected it to be. I think it was a mix or alcohols and passion fruit juice. I enjoyed it quite a bit! Our waitstaff was a young person with yellow hair, nose piercing in the middle of the nose, and they were just amazing! We ordered some items at separate times, and they were just on top of it all. Our food came in a timely manner, they didn't write anything down, and the joint was BUSY! I was so impressed with our server! Laughing Buddha is located in downtown Sudbury. We found the parking lot across the street super convenient (remember - downtown parking often is notoriously painful). The Buddha Pizza was loaded with many toppings that made it interesting. But I was more impressed with the dough; it was just so tasty with the right amount of chewiness. With a carvas (aka dough) this good, I think you will enjoy other pizza varieties just as well. The Miso Bowl was fresh and had a large variety of ingredients, too. Now I think of it, Laughing Buddha's secret of success is freshness and variety. The pricing is within the norm of bistros in a tourist centric area, so it is not cheap yet reasonably priced. Should you want a more affordable meal, I strongly recommend going a few kilometers outside of downtown. read more

Don't be caught off guard by the surrounding area of town the restaurant is located in. It's not in a glitzy part of town, but the place has atmosphere. The bar area gives off a dark vibe, but once you walk out to the patio it's like you are in a completely different country. It's cozy, comfortable, earthy and warm. (Bohemian vibe.) They have a large selection of wines, beers and also make some custom, sweet cocktails. The Erdinger Wheat beer is authentic and goes down very easy if you like wheat beets, which I do! The Dill Pizza ZA is unique and worth getting (it was very good). And if you are a Brussels Sprouts person you should also enjoy theirs. All the toppings were done right, came in good portions, and sauce was delicious. The quinoa was cooked al dente though, so it wasn't fluffy & soft. THE BAD - Slow service and inconsistent reason for not being able to make my Miso Buddha bowl in the beginning!! They claimed it was because of a lack of ALL ingredients by 8pm even though they're opened till 11pm... then the waiter came back (after me requesting them to talk to the kitchen again), and said it was because they ran out of dressing and they can make it. Atmosphere outside was great! It was warm enough to edit outside on the patio in Sudbury on November 8th! The patio is super cute! They have some individual patio tabletop fireplaces (now I totally want one for our cottage). The beer selection is good, however, they need to offer more LOCAL Sudburian beer on their menu. I don't want to drink a beer from southern Ontario, I want to try the local craft. We had the jalapeño poppers, which were okay. Nothing fancy. They were deep fried jalapeño slices (round ones like you get in a jar) and served with sour cream. The pizza we had though....Wow! It was the dill pickle pizza! It was amazing! Really! Considering the hype, I decided to try this restaurant out. I think this restaurant is a nice place to chill out and drink their large variety of beers. Food may be pricey to some people. Food: 3.5/5. Pizza was very thin crust and the toppings were unique. I also liked how we were able to substitute our pizza for an Alfredo base instead of tomato with no complications. $18 for a medium sized pizza is definitely harsher for the wallet than I would like. The taste of the pizza didn't really stick out to me. Drinks: 3/5. the golden beach was a very light beer which is good for those who don't like a very strong tasting beer. The cucumber and lime sour beer tasted like pickles. I did not like it but if you like pickles, then go for it. Server: 4/5. Server came around a few times to ask how things were going. This is absolutely my favourite casual dining spot in town. The beer and drink menus are super extensive but the raspberry mojitos are definitely the top pick. Keep reading: I truthfully dont want to leave a bad review but i feel like I have to due to the health and safety risk that currently goes along with eating here. The food was amazing, our server was friendly, and the vegan options were great. Prices and the general vibe are reminiscent of an upper-class restaurant but there is one glowing flaw with the place That one glowing flaw - the dining area is over-run with a striking number of mice. The first time we saw one i shrugged it off as an issue that could happen in any restaurant so i kept eating my salad but after a couple minutes we saw about 7 mice whiz by our feet around the floor and into the walls. I personally didn't finish eating my salad just cause in my head i was picturing mice running around on top of the food, while simultaneously holding my legs in the air because a mouse kept running past our table and was hanging out under the heater beside us the whole time. We mentioned it to the server who shrugged it off and said it was normal, as the restaurant is situated in an old building. At that point i felt weird leaving or asking for a refund since they play it off so cool and normal - but after a day of thinking about it, that's extremely gross and they really shouldn't even be opened at all. I get that its an old building but they should still solve the issue before continuing to serve food - and if they cant then they need to move buildings. Again I feel terrible leaving this review. The food was good, the server was fantastic, and the place seemed awesome but this is a health and safety issue and i do think the place shouldn't be opened. read more

We were desperate to find a place to have lunch because it was a national holiday... and this place was such a surprise!!!!!! Excellent service, fair prices, delicious pizzas and a beautiful patio with a cozy ambience. They offer a long looong selection of beer, cocktails, frozen cocktails and long drinks. I liked that one of their menu items included half a pizza and a salad for 12 bucks. Good handmade dessert options such as Baileys Tiramisu and Homemade Cheesecake - which by the way was perfect, so fluffy and delicious. Upon entry, we were warmly greeted, & welcomed to sit in the side room. It was early afternoon on a Saturday. Decor is clean, modern, 'hipster' style. Waitress was pleasant & polite, with a warm disposition. It's unfortunate that she was the only waiter working that section, she was running off of her feet. App: Nachos Especial with chicken & beef, served with sour cream; on par with college pub nachos; the cheese was not 'gooey' but on the verge of burnt, the salsa (which tasted like Ole El Paso - mild salsa) made the over salted chips very soggy. Hubby's main: Leo Luigi pizza; simply put it could very well be mistaken for store bought freezer thin crust meat lovers pizza. Nothing special or memorable. My main: Chicken Nova: good, was very fresh & light, but again; nothing special or memorable. As my side; I was given the tomato & basil soup topped with parmesan in error - I did try it. Again tasted like puréed canned tomatoes over seasoned with basil oil. My husband tried it too & said it was akin to Campbell's cream of tomato soup. My actual side was brought out & the waitress was very apologetic - not her fault. I had the onion rings which were akin to the McCain frozen type. They were very greasy & were served with what is called a 'spicy banana ketchup' which simply tasted like a combo of Heinz ketchup, tabasco, & smoky bbq sauce. Great place to eat in Sudbury! We went with a large group of people (18) a mix of kids and adults. We had made reservations.We were all vegetarian and some of us had some allergies. The restaurant catered to all of our needs. Since it was a nice summer evening and with a large group we were seated outside in the back. We started off with nachos and poutine for appetizers. Nachos were great! The poutine was vegetarian with a great tasting gravy. The mains consisted of sandwiches and pizza. The veggie buddha pizza was very delicious with the variety of veggies. All pizzas are personal sized. I had a bon ami banh mi sandwich with sweet potato fries. The sandwich is something everyone should try. It really was delicious and the best thing about it was that the tofu had flavor all the way through. The Sriracha lime veganaise complemented the daikon and other vegetables in the sandwich. I really liked the way they presented the sandwich skewered with toothpick and olives with 2 pickle spears on the side. The fries were great with the banana ketchup which added a unique sweetness. All the food that was ordered came quite quickly we did not have to wait too long. I will definitely eat at this restaurant again when I am back in Sudbury. The only suggestions I have are to make the appetizers bigger. Also to add to the menu another type of entre. read more

We would have walked out if we hadn't already ordered our supper. There were straight up live mice running around under the tables. PLURAL. MICE PLURAL. I can't even tell you how disgusted I was. I've never seen anything like that in my life. Plus, our pizza was soggy. If you're gonna serve me a mouse pizza, at least make it worth my potential contraction of Hantavirus. read more

I have to give this place 5 stars because if there was only one place I was allowed to eat at in Sudbury, this would be the place. It is the atmosphere and the attitude of the people that go here that make this place so great. It attracts all kinds. The business folk, the potheads, the eclectic and the sophisticated alike all feel welcomed at the Buddha. While I love this place, a lot of locals have never heard of it. I find it hard to believe because it is down the street from where they would watch a local hockey game but it is true. Somehow this place is not short on customers but nonetheless with every chance I get, I like to introduce the locals here. If it is your first time here things you should know: 1) there is a patio... just walk towards the back and you'll see the door to the patio on your way. 2) there is more seating... you just have to walk to the very back and follow the hallway. It will open up to a much larger room. This took me a while to figure out, but it is much more roomy back there. 3) The washrooms in the first room are a bit nicer than the ones in the larger room. 4) Parking can be an issue for a lot of locals. There is meter parking along the streets, but after 6 pm you can park for free. One thing to note is that if you are going for dinner and you got there before 6pm but are planning on leaving after 6pm.. then you can park in the YMCA lot across the street. The arm will be raised when you are done dinner and it won't cost you a penny! The food is good and simple. There are appetizers, salads, pizzas and sandwiches. The good things: 1) There is a patio. This isn't that common in Sudbury and is a nice luxury. 2) They have an eclectic variety of beer.. organic, local etc. 3) The pizza can be gluten-free crust! My friend is a celiac, so this option makes going out to eat simple. 4) There are tons of vegetarian options! Being a vegetarian myself, this is generally a good thing. Recommendations - not in any particular order: 1) feta hummus 2) broccoldorf salad 3) falafel - I loved the pickled turnip that comes with it. Hope you like this place as much as I do! read more

The food was not spectacular, but it was OK. The service was good, and the outside patio hit the spot, especially with cider. We visited on a slow Monday. The waiter let us know that the kitchen has vegan cheese, and the pizzas can be made vegan. The sandwiches were on the small side, but the flavour was good. The plate could have been better, but the canned fruit salad made it worse. If there was anything I'd change, is that the kitchen just dump some nice green salad on the side, and get rid of the fruit salad side as an option. Over-all:: not bad. Good spot to chill and chat. I have been here a few times. I am not a huge fan, however it is trendy. What sets this restaurant apart from the rest is the beer menu. For a hick town like Sudbury, to have 40+ types of beer in a menu is quite the feat. The beer garden (seaonal?) is also a definite plus. To sit outside and soak up the sun is a welcome bonus. Inside, the place is a bit run down. I am not convinced this isn't on purpose. This formally was the soup kitchen, and I have always found the smell of B.O. to have been infused in the walls of the place and has never left. As for the food, it really isn't anything special. "The Elvis", A commercial loaf of bagged bread with peanut butter and bananas for $7 or $8 bucks isn't thrilling cuisine nouveau. My wife seems to like the pizza named "Gunga Galunga" however again, this is not inspiring but the name is certainly catchy. Finally, the location is dodgy. Yes Elgin Street is a lot better than it was years ago, however it is still pretty seedy. This restaurant is frequented by the Emo/Goth wanna be crowd and if you are not part of that crowd or the 21st century hippy posse you may be out of your element here. read more

The Good: Excellent selection of beer, one of the best in Sudbury. Unique selection of sandwiches, I recommend the Brie-LT. The pizza is also decent and includes Gluten-free and whole-wheat options. The pub food is also excellent, especially the deep-fried pickles. The Bad: The decor is very dated and not appealing to the eye. Also, do not expect a quiet dining experience during peak hours. The beer selection on tap is limited, so be prepared for bottled beer. The Ugly: The service is generally very poor. Expect awkward and inattentive waiters and long wait times for service and food. If you are adverse to smokers, I would not recommend the enclosed patio. More than once, my dining experience was ruined by heavy cigarette smell and fumes. Regardless, the Buddha is one of the best pubs/restaurants in Sudbury and the best place to go for unique food and beer. read more

Laughing Buddha has one of the most vegetarian, vegan and gluten free friendly menu's in town. The have a large selection of beers for you to choose from and are open pretty late. Seating is limited and you might want to go here early to ensure that you get a seat, I don't think that they take reservations, but you can always try by calling. They display and sell local artwork on their walls, and they have a great outdoor patio for you to enjoy that cold drink on a warm sunny day. For the colder days they have propane heaters outside, so that you can still sit outside without freezing. read more
