We were in need of some dinner and and we just didn't want to do the old stand by and order pizza so beef sandwich's were thrown out there and everyone liked the idea except for one grumpy person. The grumpy person had to be the one who had a cheeseburger and fries. We did takeout and got lucky because we know a someone who works there that was just getting off and did us a solid and dropped our order off because she lives in the neighborhood anyway. I ordered my beef sandwich dipped with hot peppers like I always do. First off none of the beef sandwich's were dipped and the gravy was on the side for all of our sandwich's. The beef sandwich is not one of the stuffed ones but it had just enough beef to be ok. The beef sandwich was average at best compared to a good Chicago beef sandwich. The frys were completely horrible because they were hard and dry. I would most likely eat here again because I have friends in the area so we would probably wind up getting some food again. read more

I have gone to this bar twice now & the bartender was beyond rude & was the person I was served by both times (I did not get her name but you will know who I am talking about if she's working). The first time I was there was when we had the time change. I was with my cousins and we were ordering drinks & asked for our tabs when we were done. My cousin tipped what he felt was appropriate & the bartender yelled at him because she gave him a free shot which didn't show up on his bill and told him "you should at least tip the price of the shot if you got a free one that's just how it works". Yes that may be how it works with exceptional service but giving away free drinks in hopes of getting a better tip when you give terrible service is not a proper way to go. I was there tonight with my friends & had the same bartender she was super intense and rude for all interactions. She asked for our ID's which was not an issue for us to provide but I was friendly and told her I was here the last time with the time change & was yelled at and told I needed proper ID. Clearly I know this, but I was just trying to see if she remembered me and tried to make a connection but she ruined that. She was rude to other customers even while we were outside. other individuals in the bar came up to ask my friends and i why she is so rude. If they found better workers this would be a great bar, but because both instances where I have visited I was greeted by a very burnt out bartender, the service was terrible and not enjoyable either times. read more

Craving a pub burger and appetizers, we ordered from here on a whim with a DoorDash gift card. The burgers were big, juicy, and delicious! We did not receive any condiments, but you did not need any! The burgers also came with very good coleslaw and Ruffles. Fresh cut fries were perfect, not soggy and the Italian beef egg rolls were so good. Our daughter got a cheese quesadilla which she said was okay. Our food was all fresh and ready extremely fast. Very happy we tried J's out and will definitely order again! read more

My friends and I were treated horrible, that bartender there that's elderly with blonde hair aggressively asked us what our birthdays were and when we issued our identification cards when clearly the dates were there. Was she blind? Then she should not be working there. That bartender is horrible, we asked her to bring her manager on over and she did not. More respect for your customers please. we go there to spend and give good tips. do better if not then don't work there. read more

We came here as a "check out" before scheduling an event with our Meetup group. I was going to make this a three star review, but based on the fact that they have "sports bar" in the name but don't mute the Internet Juke box when a game is on, that cost them a star. The "app" control of the juke box doesn't work either- the app showed the location but that the juke box was off-line. Seriously- I have never been to a sports bar that muted the game when the juke box came on??? W The Actual F. Based on this, it's pretty much useless to go to J's to watch a game because it's likely that you won't be able to hear a certain amount of it. Service and food average to good otherwise. There are certainly better sports bars in Lake County and we plan on patronizing them in the future. read more

We hosted a casual holiday party here last week! Everything was great! Wings/pizza/salad and misc apps were delicious. Everyone was pleased. The server and bartender were very nice and accommodating. Great service. We had a nice time. Prior to the party, we have taken food to go and enjoyed chicken ranch wraps. Had a few lunches there too and it's all good! It's usually decorated silly and cute with whatever holiday is current. read more

Went and tried his place last night and figured with mostly good reviews it would be good place. Got to bar and all 3 drinks I got were watered down and the waitress forgot about me 3 times when I asked for another drink. She had to be at least 50. Nothing wrong with age but come on you got to move fast when your a bartender. Place was full of old dudes and not your average 20's or 30's crowd. Only thing that was good was the fries and the calzone. Got sick after I had the drinks. Very expensive well drinks to. Expect to dish out your wallet. And I hit a few slots but you can go down the street and get slots pretty much any bar now in fox lake. I wouldn't recommend coming here if you want a drink or looking to be served right away or looking to mingle. read more

Not sure why but it seems like every time I am here, the service progressively worsens. It takes 5-10 minutes to get drinks and another 45 minutes to get our food. If you are in a hurry, this place is not for you. It's great if you have a couple hours to spend but otherwise, you should steer clear. The food is good and the prices are not bad. That's why they only get two stars. The service is just awful and the atmosphere is not the greatest either. Not so good for kids either; full bar atmosphere with a little bit of a club feel. I have came here at least ten times and I do not see myself going out of the way to go here.. In fact, I'm not sure if I will be back at all. read more

I have been to this bar many times when it was the old Jimmy V's. I have always enjoyed the location and atmosphere. This visit was no different. The staff was very friendly. It was a very cold day and everytime the front door opened I got a huge blast of cold air. They have an outside framed in entry way but no heater so all the smokers were letting cold air in eveyrtime they went out to smoke. I ordered the cheese curds and they were terrible. I was told that they had just hired a new chef so I hope they give him the ability to create a real menu with fresh products instead of the cheap processed frozen crap. The deal of the day seemed to be the half priced pizza and everyone that ordered them all seemed to be very pleased. Will have to try that next time! read more

I give J's 5 stars. It's a fun place to hangout with friends. They have great food, I love the pizza and wings. All employees are very friendly and funny. The owners of the bar are down to earth people and take pride in satisfying their customers. They have a DJ on Friday nights and and live bands monthly. They have a Pool table, dartboards, 2 golf games, a jukebox, and ping pong table. In response to the previous person who posted, The owners they are very involved and like to have fun. On their free time they represent their bar by participating in the dart leagues, bag tournaments, and volleyball leagues. Ordered a pizza and an 8 piece Broasted chicken for delivery. Pizza was mediocre at best, but tasted better when it was cold...go figure. This place has a way of putting a smile on my face everytime I walk through the door. The staff, the owners and the people are welcoming and full of that good energy vibe. After a long week this is just what I need to break free for a mental minute. The wings and hot sauce is unique and beyond delicious. My friends and me did a Thursday chicken wing taste test between j's and pugs. J's definitely had the better wings, the were juicy and really could be eaten with just a little salt and pepper (the Thursday deal is .50¢ each). Pugs wings were .35¢ each but came out dry like chicken jerky. Pugs however did have a better sauce selection, but J's still had better blue cheese and ranch dressing dips - hands down. On a side note, pugs had the better Thursday drink specials. read more

I went here last night for a costume contest and I would first like to say the place was fun and all the bartenders except 1 were amazing. Her name is danell, lets start with the dirty looks. Anytime I even looked in her direction she was doing this extra angry look at me. I was saying hi to her over and over and over and she looked at me and corrected her name with an attitude rolled her eyes and kept sweeping (meanwhile I was introduced to her as "Darnell" years ago.) Then I walked up to the bar and waited and watched her walk past me like 3 times then I said can i get a water after she didnt acknowledge me the first 3 times. She then gives me a water and doesnt even fill it up the whole way and put the straw in extra angry (. After that she comes in the bathroom and yells get out lets go last call whoevers doing coke in here get out last call!!! First of all I was in the bathroom using the bathroom not doing coke....but what really confuses me is that obviously doing cocaine in the bathroom is okay at this establishment. So with all that being said I don't know why and I rally don't care why this girl was so rude towards me but frankly I am a PAYING CUSTOMER, I rarely go out to the bars and when I do go out I am expecting to be treated as a paying customer! The treatment I got yesterday was COMPLETELY unacceptable not to mention dangerous bc when people drink alcohol things can go south very quickly especially when the employees are the ones provoking it. read more

This would be a five star review if the service was better. I understand this is a sports bar but there's not many tv's? Also if you sit at a low top table it seems as if they don't have servers for those tables. The bartender and bar server pay way more attention to the customers sitting at the bar. The food is really good and at a reasonable price. I prefer their traditional wings over the boneless. I do recommend a burger or chicken sandwich because of the big portion and they use pretzel buns, yum. A couple different kinds of whiskey and coke that I've tried were unfortunately weak; will probably just stick to beer next time. read more

Don't really go here much, But decided to go in and try their chicken wings on a thursday. Most places make you wait until 4ish 5pm before they do chicken wing specials. But they have all day .50 cent bone in breaded wings. That are actually delicious, The sauces are just plain normal buffalo sauce. My wife and I went here to watch game 7 of the Cubs World Series. The bartenders were fantastic. They were a little understaffed, considering the momentous occasion that was happening that night, but they worked very hard and had great attitudes the whole night. J's (formerly Jimmy V's) has AMAZING pizza. I've never felt the need to write a review, but this delivery deserved it! Super tasty, not a sweet sauce, thank goodness and a great price point. We've dined in and had it delivered. Honestly, it took me the least amount of time to place my order, than it did for ANY other restaurant in the area.
