I only recently signed up (so I would be happy to update this review later) and haven't used all of these services but the availability of appointments has been huge. Other doctors would have taken 3 months to schedule an initial appointment with, whereas it was a matter of days for One Medical. Everyone I have met or messaged with here has been professional, communicative, and helpful. I'd been dealing with excruciating tooth pain for months, taking way too much Advil to function. I didn't have dental insurance, and after two major family losses, getting the pain checked hadn't been a priority. Eventually, the pain and Advil-induced nausea became unbearable. I made an appointment here after another dentist suggested a root canal, but didn't offer sedation. At this office, the root canal was "confirmed," but I was told I'd have to pay the full 4K up front just to schedule it--and the earliest appointment was still a month away. I explained that I couldn't keep taking Advil and needed something else for pain relief. Instead, they prescribed even stronger ibuprofen and steroids. When I reiterated that I literally couldn't take any more ibuprofen--or any NSAID--because my stomach lining needed time to heal, the dentist became condescending and dismissive. He left me feeling so stupid that I genuinely started to believe I was just being dramatic, which he all but said outright. Still, I paid the 4K and booked the appointment because I felt trapped and desperate. But when I got home, I called my stepdad, who's a PharmD. He was stunned by what I described and assured me I wasn't crazy. He also explained that while steroids can be helpful alongside a proper pain reliever, they're essentially useless on their own. Steroids reduce inflammation that can contribute to pain, but if the pain itself isn't being treated--especially nerve pain--they won't do much of anything. That conversation snapped things into focus. I called the office, canceled the procedure, got my money back, and found a multidisciplinary practice that saw me the very next day. Turns out my tooth was cracked vertically, so severely that a root canal wouldn't have fixed the underlying issue. I had the tooth extracted and replaced with an implant at a different multi-disciplinary practice and paid not much more than what I was going to have to pay for just the root canal. Strongly do not recommend going here. Side note: For anyone needing dental work done, find a place you trust that offers all services, not just root canals. That way, the recommendation and procedure align with what you need, versus what they can offer.

Both Docs and the massage therapists are wonderful, and I never had any problems until recently. My issues have been with the front office and billing. Last year, I clearly specified which card to charge, but the wrong card was used, causing my bank account to go negative and resulting in a fee. The charge was eventually corrected, but I was left dealing with the consequences. A few months ago, I again explained which card to use for my balance, but the wrong card was charged. I had already asked for that card to be removed after the previous issue. I am now receiving repeated emails and texts about payment, even though I have explained that I am out of town and will return at the end of September to pay in person. After the mistakes made, I do not feel comfortable paying by phone or text. It is disappointing because I really like the providers, but the front-office experience has changed my opinion of the practice. I have never refused to pay; I have only explained when and how I am comfortable doing so. I paid the service fee for another year and a week later this all started up. The communication has also felt very different and insincere lately, and I have even wondered whether being a person of color has affected how I am being treated. Absolutely terrible billing practices. Don't fall for Dr. Faye Johnson's bubbly personality, she'll…read morebill you for every little thing. My son went in for an asthma check up and she spotted he had splinters. She said we'll take care of that as if she was doing us a favor. She plucked out the splinters and charged $414 for splinter removal (CPT code 10120*) which falls into the surgical category and hits our deductible and we pay out of pocket as we haven't hit our deductible. The splinter was sticking out of the skin and any parent with tweezers could have done it. No incision was made nor was it documented and this shouldn't even been coded other than E/M. This borders on up-coding fraud or pure incompetence (a simple plucking of a splinter billed as a surgical procedure). Absolutely absurd. Don't trust Dr. Faye Johnson or Westside Pediatrics, they just look for things to bill you, not the well being of your child. * The code used here is for when the splinter is so deep into the subcutaneous tissue that the physician would need to perform an incision to ensure the full body of the splinter is completely removed. Please do your own due diligence and research this as there are plenty of sources that support this. OUR EXPERIENCE TO RESOLVE THIS: I called on August 7th and explained what happened with the office manager Tonya. She said she'll speak with Dr. Johnson and won't make any promises but she's not sure she can look past this as the procedure was already done. She said she'll get back to me. I hadn't heard from Tonya so I called August 9th to get an update. She had a meeting in the morning and was unavailable. Asked the receptionist when would she be available she said in the afternoon. I called at 1:30pm the receptionist said she wasn't in. I said I called this morning and she was supposedly in a meeting so she was in. The receptionist corrected and said she left for the day. I call back on Monday August 12th, receptionist said she is doing training as they have a new EMR system. Then strictly said Tonya won't be available until Wednesday and she'll reach out to you then. I waited all day Wednesday and didn't receive a call from Tonya. I call on Thursday August 15th, the receptionist once again says she's really busy and that Tonya will call me. Basically don't call until she calls me. I finally just showed up in the office to resolve the matter. She actually openly admitted to not knowing the code so she tried Googling it. When all the search results clearly stated "incision" for the code and didn't result the narrative she wanted, she stopped searching. I had sources I had found while she was searching but Tonya had no interest in listening to me read proper use of the CPT 10120 off Google. Then she tried to argue the code was used properly because skin had to be removed with the tweezers hence it's considered an incision. At this point she's already dug her heels in this matter and wanted me to think the use of tweezers counts as an incision. I'd like to point out the medical record makes no note of skin being removed with tweezers so her whole point is moot. At this point neither of us were budging from our position so she conceded to waive the procedure and ending our patient practice relationship. If it isn't obvious, there was no way my family would go back anyways. I do hope Dr. Johnson, Tonya and Westside Pediatrics learn from my family's experience and how awful and painful this was for us to get resolved. Nine days, not a single call back and took an in office visit to resolve. Ethically and morally a splinter removed with tweezers doesn't justify hundreds of dollars. Things that I learned from this experience that could help other patients/families who get stuck in this position. 1) Patients have rights and don't have to eat whatever bill the medical provider gives you. Most "good" medical providers will work with you and don't want to deal with the hassle of complaints to the insurance or other authorities. 2) Check medical records immediately and ensure accuracy as that is the only ground you have to stand on. We found discrepancies in the record that was misinterpreted and could have been used against us. Doctors and scribes are humans not stenographers. They can make a mistake. Note Dr. Johnson uses a video conference scribe to take notes and is not there in person. 3) Check CPT codes used in the medical record and make sure the record supports the use of that CPT code. 4) Don't call billing, they're useless to deal with. They have no authority to reverse anything. They're there to just get yelled at and process whatever the provider asks them to do. Call the office manager or provider you saw to get it resolved. 5) Lastly, ALWAYS ask the provider if you'll be billed before they touch your child for any procedure. Even a band aid they might find a way to charge you. Anything skin, removal of skin, breaking the skin, picking a scab is considered surgical.
