Long overdue update, but after the tile installation, I asked Juan to install a stove exhaust for me in 2022. He mentioned that he was no longer working with Kevin at the time, so Juan Carlos was just working alone. He installed the exhaust half over the stove, and half over the kitchen counter. He told me the reason why he did that, was that it was just easier to put the stove exhaust that way. I had to beg him to fix the issue, because I knew if I had to hire another handyman, it would cost a lot more to fix his mistake. He said he would fix the problem. He already punched out much of the drywall where he did the installation, at the top of the wall and at the bottom of the wall. he already made several attempts to vent the exhaust, through trial and error. He kept telling me, not to worry and that he could fix it. There are still remnants of the mistake he made, both inside and outside of the house - he initially installed the exhaust vent 12" away from where it was supposed to be! After he subcontracted some work to an electrician, and completed the installation, and after I paid him, he asked me if I wanted to see the receipts. I think he didn't expect me to say yes, but I said yes. He texted me the receipts. I noticed that he had billed me for him and his sub-contracted electrician's personal purchases. I told Juan that I noticed this, and that he could keep the money, but that I would not be using him again. I notice some recent positive reviews mentioning Juan Carlos and Kevin, but when I hired with Juan Carlos WITHOUT Kevin, it was a mistake. I also recommended them to my mom, and I think it was right before they got into a fight. The work he did at my mom's house, was messy and unprofessional. I'm really surprised he is still on yelp, and I regret giving him a high rating initially. Granted all of this shoddy work may have been because of his feud with Kevin at the time, but if you are a professional company, customers should not be affected by internal feuds. read more

He was helpful in suggesting primer/paint and the local shop where we were able to pick the color of our choice. We hired JC Ortiz for work at the house. Everything started well: on time, working diligently. Then we started noticing that the cuts to floor boards were crooked or short. We questioned this whichbresuktednin is understandingbthatvthe contractors did not have the necessary tools. This caused us almost $1000 extra in materials on top of the 10% extra already purchased. We had a section of the floors redone 3 times because the floor board were hit so hard with the hammer that the corners were bent. Crooked cuts were filled with chalking to hide the cuts. Contractors didn't know how to read the layout for cabinets, so we had to show them where everything went. Contractors washed their used tools in our bathroom and kitchen sink. But the biggest issue was that we received 2 letters from a neighbor down the road from us stating that 6 large trash bags full of cement and other debris were dumped into his backyard. The neighbor found cardboard with my personal information. These were packaging that our cabinets came in. We brought this up to the contractor who stated that the trash was given to a hired subcontractor. When we reviewed our cameras, it was the contractor who hauled away the trash in his truck. A second letter came from the same neighbor stating more debris like diapers baby bottles were dumped there and he found one piece of debris with my name on it again. Again, we brought this up to the contractor. He said he will call us back. It's been 3 weeks from that call, and we haven't heard back from him. Yes, contractors are kind, but to jepodize your client to being reported for legal dumping and spreading personal information like name and address is completely unprofessional and negligent. Then to ask for a check for work not finished is just beyond my understanding. So please be careful with this company. read more

Loved they showed up in a timely manner - the very same day for estimate, and started the very next day on my drywall project and re-positioning a toilet and some painting. Being an empty Rental I excepted the high price to get it done. The work was done quite nicely no complaints there. My concern and the reason for only three stars is that 1. the debris from the project was left on my otherwise very clean Property and they refused to remove it without my paying extra. (I'm not accustomed to this and just expect a handyman/contractor to clean up after themselves). 2.Payment issues: I was initially told Venmo or electronic payment was ok. At inspection on date of completion a check was requested (which was fine- although I typically DO NOT carry), but happened to have it. Carlos gave me a written note with a name on it - to whom I should make check payable to. 3 days later I received numerous calls 1st stating my check could not be cashed, then "the Bank stated 'no good'(to which I knew was totally untrue) and as asked for another check; I called my Bank and asked if there was a problem to which B Of A said "absolutely not"...and indicated no record of attempt to process that check#. Finally Carlos admitted the spelling of name was incorrect (although same as note). I live nearly an hour from property and not interested to redeliver a check. I was then provided an email for electronic transfer. That turned into us going back and forth for the email did not match his name (and once funds are sent they're gone). I simply asked if this was to be sent to Venmo or Cash app? Definitely a communication issue. Finally I was given a phone number and it matched a Cash App account. After finally sent I received a call requesting Cash payment-and he would drive to pick it up. I sent a screenshot of the cash app transaction and I informed him the funds were deducted from my account and I have paid in full. This likely happen because of Karma - refusal to do what was right... if only Carlos would have simply taken the multiple bags of debri away. read more

I hired Juan Carlos again to patch and paint my garage walls and ceiling and 4 doors, as well as change the hardware on the doors and install some baseboards and electrical outlets. This time, I was not as satisfied. Although the pricing was very good, the work was a little sloppy. Door knobs and hinges were installed upside down. The baseboards had a round edge and a flat edge and several were installed with the round edge toward the floor, which is also upside down. I purchased a gallon of bonding primer and specifically told them it must be used on the doors and trim or the paint will peel. They didn't use it and of course the paint peeled right off when I just scraped it with my fingernail. I had them paint the door again but days later noticed a couple other areas with the same problem. I painted those areas myself and also fixed the upside down door knobs and door hinge. I left the baseboards upside down because it was too much work to fix. The texture on some of the drywall patches was bad and sticks out like a sore thumb. Although the pricing was very low, I would have liked to pay more for a better job. Here's the deal: if you need work done cheap and fast and don't need it to be done perfectly and are handy enough to make touchups yourself after they are gone, this is a good deal. Rating 4 for first job and 2 for second job, averages out to 3 overall. read more
