Juan's Taqueria version of a California burrito.
    Terry K.

I ordered a California Burrito and side of Charro Beans. According to Tio Taco / Taco Fiend on Tik Tok a California Burrito should be made with marinated carne asada, crispy French fries, cheese, guacamole, and sour cream in a warm flour tortilla. It was missing guacamole, sour cream, and had very little cheese if any and I believe the burrito was deep-fried for a slightly crunchy texture. The burrito was tasty and tasted good. For people that don't know better they would probably say it was good also. If I order one again, I will ask for guacamole and sour cream in a warm tortilla not deep-fried. It came with red salsa and a spicy creamy sauce. I would like to see a green salsa added also. The Charro beans were very flavorful. $15 for the burrito was a little high in my opinion.

    Elote

Work friends and family raved about Juan's food so we decided to try it. We were not disappointed! The food was fresh, The salsa was just spicy enough, and the Elote was delicious. I've never had cold Elote, but I would recommend trying this. We are pretty picky about chips in our household and these ranked right up at the top. I would encourage Juan to add queso to the menu as it would go deliciously with his chips. The ground beef taco was delicious as well. While the restaurant is humble and located by a gas station, it is quaint and certainly the food makes it worth the trip.

El Carretonero - 3 tamale dinner with ground beef and cheese. Refried bans and Mexican rice

Enjoyed a nice lunch for two. Got a booth quickly upon arriving with complimentary crispy tortilla…read moreChips and plenty of salsa. Hot sauce options to spice up the meal on the table already. Craving tamales ordered the 3 tamale plate with beef. I was surprised by the amount the meat and cheese layered on top and not rolled inside the tamal. Plenty of food for two to split as an entrees. Small portion Refried pinto beans and Mexican Rice as expected kinda bland and not very warm at all upon arriving at the table. With only one other person in the restaurant and ordering only one entrees I expected faster service and hot food. The plate was the warmest part of the meal. Lots of soda options, but they do not serve alcohol (plenty options downtown Midland nearby to enjoy a drink).

She ran and got someone to translate. So I actually didn't order what I wanted because I knew she wouldn't be able to understand what I was saying. That's my fault ! My friend got the super large burrito and it was the size of a Taco Bell bean burrito and had no side dishes with it so I thought that was kind of expensive and he didn't like the food anyways. I got one of the vegetarian options and the bean burrito was like a small burrito I'd make at home with a can of refried beans. It also had a cheese enchilada that was like something I would make at home too. When we sat down and got the chips and salsa, I asked if they had a hot salsa also. The waitress went and got someone to translate who then ran and brought me a saucer full of hotter salsa that was good, but I wasn't told that it would be an extra $5 and didn't realize it until the bill came. Like I said, I won't be going back here again!!

You can smell the fajitas wafting from the kitchen once you sit down…read more Ordered guacamole, flautas dinner with beans only, chicken quesadilla dinner and one chicken taco and one chicken tostada. Corn chips are thick, crispy and a bit too hard. $53.19 The hot salsa is bad, better mixed with the house salsa. The guacamole doesn't have a ton of flavor, just creamy, still ok. The flautas are small, 4 small ones with the dinner. I asked for beans only and on the side, got beans covered with cheese. I had asked the waitress about the order being wrong. She looked agitated. She went to take my plate away. I said not to bother, I don't trust her to not spit in my food, she looked like she wanted to hurt me. The tostadas is covered with too much iceberg. The chicken quesadillas are thin and subpar. Meal was average. The service left a lot to be desired for me.

From the doubled up corn tortillas, to the tender well cooked meat, cilantro and their wonderful sautéed onions these Street style Taco's are as authentic as anything you would get in Mexico. The gratis house chips and Salsa were equally tasty and a nice complement to the Taco's all being washed down with a sugar cane based Mexican coke. The total bill came in at a very reasonable cost of $12 which is a great value in today's economy and a great deal by any standard. Relative to staff and facility, this appears to be a small family run business where the restaurant itself is located in a small strip mall at the corner of Franklin and Square Lake Rd with an equally small footprint for the restaurant. This is a very unpretentious business (think hole in a wall but in a nice way) with a limited number of dining tables and small staff. Having said that, I had no problem in getting seated and getting my order taken and food brought out in fairly quick order! I have been on a kick for a while now trying to find the best taco joint in the the northern Oakland county area and have to say this is as good as I have come across up to now and am a big fan of this business. If you are into well made authentic Mexican street taco's than this is a must visit for you. This was my first visit here and definately will not be my last where I will be combining this dining venue with my regular Bloomfield Hills Costco trips which is a Quarter mile from the restaurant.

El Arbol is definitely a cool spot visually, and I really wanted to love it based on all the great…read morereviews. Unfortunately, the atmosphere was much better than the food for us. The restaurant itself is bright, colorful, clean, and really well designed. I loved the clever bench seating, the bar was well stocked, and there's outdoor seating plus an upstairs area that looked really cool. They also have a walk-up taco window outside, which is a fun idea. We sat in the bar area, and the service was amazing. Everyone was friendly and attentive. The food, though, was really underwhelming. Almost everything we tried lacked seasoning and flavor. I ordered the chicken enchiladas, which had very little chicken and were pretty bland. I did like the very thinly sliced jalapeños on top. The rice was nice and fluffy but didn't have much flavor, and they serve black beans, which just aren't my preference with Mexican food. The house-made salsa was surprisingly sweet, and I was disappointed that the chips didn't seem house-made. If I'm going out for Mexican food, fresh chips are one of those little things I really look forward to. My husband ordered tacos at $6 each, which felt pretty steep considering we're used to excellent tacos in the $2-$3 range. His carne asada was cooked closer to medium rare, which wasn't what we expected at all from carne asada. The queso was another disappointment. It tasted very similar to Rico's cheese sauce you can buy at the grocery store. Overall, great service, great decor, very clean and a fun atmosphere, but the food just didn't match the setting or the reviews for us. At these prices, I expected a lot more flavor. Unfortunately, we left pretty disappointed.
