Still probably the freshest pan dulce around! Even stopping in later in the evening, the bread was not hard at all like so many of the places around here. We took them to some friends who are also from California and they, too commented on how they haven't found pan dulce as fresh anywhere near them. We tried to stop earlier this time to try some desserts. We didn't notice prices listed or posted- but they were in plastic containers in the refrigerator section cut in slices. They also had some open bakery items on the shelves to help yourself. We did not notice any pricing visible. When we went to pay, it seemed expensive for a slice of small cake in a container. Three words, FRESH PAN DULCE. I've been trying to find a panaderia with my favorite Mexican bread and have had no luck til coming to Juanito's Bakery! Came here on a late Saturday afternoon and was surprised to find many pan dulce (my fave being the conchas) filled in the bakery case which you grab on your own. They were all still fresh and not dry for a which was a delight. I also purchased some churros which I'd pass on next time as they were hard, but I do look forward to coming back here and trying the other Mexican snacks (tamales, tostilocos, tacos, agua fresca, etc.)! read more

Small little bakery across from the train station. Don't let the small store front fool you as inside they have the most amazing cakes and goodies. Extremely nice staff who serves with a smile. Ran in there one day when I missed the train to grab a cup of coffee. So many goodies that I had to bring some tasty treats home for my family. The cakes are so beautifully decorated, but the inside is beyond amazing. So if you are nearby stop inside to grab something sweet. read more

I like this place for a quick bite and drink while waiting at the nj train station but oh maaaaan it's so difficult to make a freakin order since no employee (girl in counter and the one making the smoothies) speaks any english at ALL. It's very frustrating because here I am trying to speak in Spanish or atleast tried to converse by making the obvious orders like papaya juice with water only or steak taco. No changes or demands on my order, just a simple order of what's written in their board. I don't know if they purposely speak in spanish only, but atleast learn some basic english too? read more

Walked in to get some food because I was hungry and I love Mexican food. Walk around the bakery to see all the baked goods and then walked up to the counter to get some food. Was wanting the Elotes but they said that it was only available on the weekends. (They should probably note that on their menu) so I asked for the chicken tacos and then asked what they had to drink and the lady pointed behind me that there were some drinks in the fridge so I went to grab a sparkling water. By the time I get back to the counter which is a few seconds the lady behind the counter told me that their kitchen is closed. So I put my drink back in the fridge and walk out. I look at their door when I walk out and it says they are open until 10 pm. How is it that their kitchen is closed but they are open until 10pm?! I felt like I got discriminated by these people. The following review is for Juanito's Bakery II on Shrewsbury Ave near the Red Bank train station. Utterly disappointing! Having just moved to NJ, I had a real craving for traditional Tres Leches cake. Where else can I get such a cake than from a Mexican bakery, right? I checked out Juanito's on a Wednesday night & understandably, they didn't have any in stock. So I ordered one to be picked up on Friday so me, my fiancee & our friends could enjoy it after dinner that night. Come Friday, went to pick up the cake, got dirty looks from my paisanas (I'm Mexican too) while I was paying for it. Got my cake and left. Not once during the transaction did I get a "thank you" or "come again". The entire transaction, from when I initially ordered the cake to when I picked it up, was spoken in Spanish...so them not thanking me for my business can't be blamed on "miscommuniation". About the cake. It was supposed to be Tres Leches and let me tell you that it was as dry as a bone. I would have just blown off the crappy encounter I had with the ladies had the cake been phenomenal. But messing with my cake is like messing with my emotions!!! I had been craving Tres Leches for months now and to be let down with something not even near being Tres Leches?? I don't think so. Friend and I stepped into this bakery since we were in the neighborhood and with a sweet tooth. I found these delicious chocolate covered rectangular cookies (I think they were molasses) in a bottom shelf. I have never had them before and been to plenty of Mexican panaderias since childhood. Initially I only bought a couple. I fortunately I ate one in my car before driving, and, because it was so good, I stopped the car and went back to get more before my friend and I left the city. My friend had the strawberries and cream desert and she liked it too. Definitely looking forward to visiting Red Bank city again to get more of the cookies at this bakery! read more

I do not have a reason to give this anything less than 5-stars. I was thinking four, because it's a tad small inside, however they do have a place to sit down inside which is more than I can say for most bakeries. I really wish I had taken pictures, like I did with The Broadway Diner...oh well. So my story. What lured my wife and I in was the smell of brownies that hung in the air after we got off the train. It was deliciously wafting us over -beckoning to us, if you will- although I must admit it was a bit off putting seeing "Gourmet Mexican Bakery." Not for The Wife, but more so for me. I am not too adventurous when it comes to food. You see, I'm from Manhattan. So the word "Gourmet" means both esoteric and expensive. Add that to "Mexican" and I think esoteric Mexican food that is highly priced. And that may be fine for some - but I was looking for more traditional food. However, I was happy that I could not be more wrong. They have traditional (read: American) confectioneries, as well as a whole assortment of delicious-looking foods. I ordered one eclair and one brownie, and 2 coca-colas (in glass bottles). The food was good, the eclair was crispy on the outside, and soft in the middle with a generation and delicious portion of chocolate on top, and delicious creme in the middle. The Brownie, was rich, with fudge frosting, cold and thick. However, not overpowering as it sometimes is. And not the type to get stuck in your teeth as they were refrigerated. And certainly not bland! The people inside were nice Mexican chicas, it was clean, and really I am kicking myself for not taking pictures. I don't know how their English was...probably better than my Spanish. ;) The the food was cheap too. I will definitely be back. This time pictures and video! read more

My father and I made a stop at this place, as he was visiting from Los Angeles for the holiday and we were in the mood for pan dulce. Dad and I are chatting, laughing, deciding on what we want and this young women and man are rolling their eyes and making faces behind the counter at us. I addressed it by saying "Dad, we should stop they appear to be irritated by us", and then they all of a sudden start "trying" to "help" us when they realize I SAW THEM. I was clearly mad at this point and so I am picking out my desserts so I can get out of there and use the tongs that are provided. There were some tongs left on one of the cases and after I used them I put them back exactly where I found them and the guy who works there was so annoyed by me doing that, he snatched them off the door and said "they don't belong there". My entire family understands/speaks Spanish so we clearly knew what he said, so RUDE. SO I had never been there before and didn't realize there was such a strict policy around where you place tongs, I assumed where you get them from, apparently not. If you see that someone is confused help them instead of standing around stating and making stupid faces. We will NEVER GO BACK to this place. They are rude, unprofessional and just prejudiced; so unless you know us we shouldn't buy from you!?!? That mentality has to change, you should welcome new people, be happy for new customers. Earlier today I called Juanitos to place a tres leches cake for my mom's birthday. My sister in law brags about their tres leches cake. So, I spoke with Isabel and she couldn't explain the icing nor the filling types (even though I was speaking to her in Spanish) She asked me if I could stop by the bakery across the train station so any one from the store could tell me about the icing etc. Ok no problem. I asked if I can still order over the phone she said Yes, takes my name and phone number as well as the type of cake. It's 5pm and I'm at the store I asked for Isabel...well, to my surprise she doesn't work there (she works at the Shrewsbury location). Now, one of the ladies calls the other location to verify my order, she speaks with Isabel and she never wrote nor entered my order in!!! Now all three of them are laughing about the situation... First of all, it was a waste of my time coming to Red bank since I'm not from the area and they only laugh at the situation instead of apologizing about the customer service Isabel provided. Second, they didn't even try to fix it nor offer an apology. None of them were inclined to satisfy me as a customer. They have no clue of Customer Service nor Customer Satisfaction!! I'm glad I did not provide my card informations!!! I will stick with my local bakery!!! read more

I went to order two cakes last time and I order them a chocolate flavor and discuss it with the young women for at least ten minutes to make sure they would do it like that, she went to speak to another lady and she said they did do mocha cakes and it was all good. I never check how she wrote the paper since I assume she had put down that I wanted the cake mocha. I send my brother to pick up the cakes and he comes back with a nonmocha cake the cake barely had nuts which I order with it! I mean it was good but the birthday people wanted chocolate! What an embarrassment! I wanted to order today and place an order and talk about the incident and the person told me to call back ? I didn't even want to give this place 1 Star. First off, I am reviewing on SERVICE IN THE breakfast/coffee AM time not the bakery goods in the afternoon. It is directly adjacent to the train so naturally I walked across to grab a coffee and a breakfast sandwich. The young lady at the counter helping patrons was absolutely horrendous and DISCRIMINATORY to Americans. I went to pay with my card and said NO! I explained I had been in the day prior, used my card with no problems, she proceed to just say "No" over and over, then said it OVER me when I was talking. She said it was $10 minimum. I finally just said to charge me $10 dollars then as I had to get to the train, she yelled "NO" again (I am not sure she knows any other words?) and then spoke in Spanish to other patrons and starting ringing other people up. I left without my goods to make my train. I honestly felt discriminated against and it was just poor business. As this country is bilingual they should have someone who can at least communicate. I will never step foot in there again and will spread the word for others not to either. read more
