We drove by this little shop as we were exploring downtown St. George. We decided to stop and check it out because of the antique gas pump in the front. The shop had a fun atmosphere to it, and all of the kids loved seeing the different types of candy on the walls. We ended up getting some ice cream and going across the street to eat it in the shade of the big trees. The ice cream was okay, nothing special. Overall, it was a fun little stop. read more

I truly don't see what others see in this place. I went in expecting a well-stocked, quaint joint with amazing ice-cream choices, barrels full of unique and handmade candy and shelves stocked with unique drinks. While there were some fun drinks and candies I didn't feel like they offered a variety that was much different than what you'd see at a gas station. Their soda fountain was a basic soda fountain (again, convenience store material) and to top it all off, the service was very unfriendly. I also felt like everything was very overpriced and there were hardly any seating options. We ordered their breadsticks which seemed like a popular thing but they were so airy and basic -- absolutely nothing special. They tasted like something from the freezer section at the local grocery store. And their dipping sauces? Ranch and nacho cheese. Not anything fancy. I ordered the cheese thinking it would be some type of yummy fondue but nope, it was cheap nacho cheese. GROSS. This place is highly overrated. Not worth it. Would not recommend. read more

Judd's has been in business for many years and after my visit, I could easily see why it's loved by so many locals. You will not find a fancy vibe here, instead it's got an old time mom and pop feel with nostalgic candies for sale, ice cream, sodas and they have homemade soups and sandwiches which are a big draw. It's not huge inside, but there are tables and chairs and friendly employees ready to serve you. The menu changes weekly as far as which soups and sandwiches are offered, so you'll have to call ahead or check their Facebook page to see what the menu is each week. They do also have a menu board right outside on the sidewalk with mention of what's offered also. Grilled Cheese ($2.79) - They didn't skimp on cheese and it was grilled nicely. I enjoyed dipping it in the creamy tomato basil soup and the bread had a great flavor. Soup and Breadsticks Combo ($6.09) - After looking over the daily soups, I decided on the Creamy Tomato Basil and it was very flavorful. The combo included two of their famous breadsticks and I added a side of cheese sauce at $0.89 cents to go along with them which paired just heavenly! These breadsticks are just simply delicious. I'm looking forward to trying out some of their other soups and sandwiches and of course I'll be back for more breadsticks and cheese sauce. They currently aren't open past 5:30 pm, so don't plan on stopping by for a late dinner and they are always closed on Sunday. They do take phone orders also. read more

Today was my second time grabbing a bite to eat at this darling little old fashioned store. Apparently it's an original and claims to have been there since the late 1800s. The shelves are full of candy in bins and buckets, reminiscent of the good ol' days, when a penny got you enough sugar to power your bicycle for a whole day of adventure. The counter contains a good variety of hard, hand scooped ice cream and then a small lunch menu. Their staple seems to be soup and bread sticks (which provide an amazing fresh bread aroma when you walk in). They were offering 3 soups today: chicken fajita, tomato basil and chicken pot pie soup. They also seem to have a rotating sandwich offering. Before when I came I think I had a sloppy joe or pulled pork or something like that. Today they were offering a grilled cheese (on multi-grain bread with muenster cheese) with a cup of soup, or an Italian meatball with a bag of chips - both for only 4.95, or make it a combo with a drink for $5.70. Great deal! I had the grilled cheese with the chicken fajita soup and just had to throw in a bread stick as well, for 95cents I couldn't say no. The grilled cheese was perfectly toasted and very cheesy. No fascinating flavors, but the grainy bread and muenster were just great. The chicken fajita soup was full of giant pieces of red, yellow AND orange peppers, and then just a few pieces of chicken, which was PERFECT for my liking. It had a little spicy zip to the creamy sauce that just hit the spot. I had a bite of my sister's tomato basil and it was so good I almost regretted my decision, but then I tasted mine again and was still so happy with it that my regret was soon forgotten. Their bread sticks are more like a long, twisty freshly baked homemade roll. Fluffy and light. It was a nice complement to the soup and I did a little dunking to soak up every last drop. The line seemed long when we walked in but moved very quickly and everyone was very friendly. You can't help but smile at being a little part of history as you either sit at the tables inside - one table is covered with old local newspaper clippings - or sit outside and enjoy the sunshine and decent temps, even in February, as well as the historic tabernacle nearby and other cool views. I have to say it was a perfect experience in my book. read more

What a cute little store. Reminds you of those old timey soda fountain places (although updated). It just had this wonderful nostalgic feel to it that even I could determine, having never set foot in this place or even heard of it since I live roughly 1300 miles away. My husband and I ventured away from our Las Vegas vacation to drive to Utah for the day. After lunch at one of the downtown restaurants, we walked around the square for a bit. Did some searching on Google maps regarding nearby ice cream, and Judd's Store pops up. Walking in, I could immediately tell it was one of those places beloved by the community. It's extremely small, but the customers were at a relatively steady flow. I just got a Sprite, but my husband got a chocolate cone. We sat at a table by the window and relaxed. And despite the crowd, it was definitely relaxing. There is an entire wall of different types of soda, which is so much fun. Like brands with vintage labels, and that kind of packaging gets me everytime. Sadly, I didn't even pay attention to this wall when I first walked in (how I ended up with a Sprite), but if I could do a do-over, I'd definitely buy one of these instead. The ice cream was alright. The top layer tasted gritty like it had melted and re-froze, but once that was gone, it was just fine. They also have a small selection of soups and sandwiches. But the best part of all was the cute little candy section. Nothing brings back your childhood like candy from the General Store. I just love seeing old historical places like this still doing business. Their website says it's been around since 1865, and in it's current building (same site, however) since 1911. I think that's awesome that the community takes care of this little store, and that it's still going strong over 100 years later. read more

We LOVE going to Judd's! Our fave is the Zucchini and Cheddar soup they have on Friday's and their chicken salad sandwich is second to none. I always look forward to going to Judd's no matter the season! Warm soup during the winter or a cool sandwich during a summer picnic is my idea of a perfect time. This is the coolest little ice cream/ candy shop in all of St. George. It still has the vintage feel as it has a lot of original elements like the gas station pumps out front as well as a lot of the decor inside. This is also a great place for a photo opportunity out front for a little travel in time. They have a great variety of classic ice cream flavors and they are very generous with their portions! I ordered one scoop on a waffle cone and it was bigger than my fist! The ice cream was oh so delicious and the service was the best! They had a couple of young teens working but you can tell they take pride in helping out in the store and they are so friendly and welcoming. This is going to be one of my for sure stops every time I visit St. George. read more

This place has a lot of history in the city, and the food is basic, but has so much flavor, and feels like my grandma is back there making a home-cooked meal. They have a bunch of yummy retro candies and sodas to try, and though it may be small, this general store has a lot of personality. First time visiting this super cute flash back from the past store. Why the low rating? The older woman with short hair, tattoos on arms who served our ice cream was unhelpful, miserable looking and plain rude to her co-worker/cashier who was attempting to assist my family and I. Great concept for business in a wholesome little city but recommendation would be to hire staff who are grateful for business especially during this uncertain financial time. Fun place conveniently located near the children's museum, library, and splash pad. Now that we know this place exists we will likely be coming by a few times this summer when we're wanting a cold treat. My two year old daughter wanted "pink ice cream" which is how I ordered for her. Instead of getting a Huckleberry cone (the pink one) the guy handed us a rainbow colored ice cream. I pointed out that we had asked for pink, he apologized but didn't offer to change it for us, and I didn't push the issue. Thankfully my daughter didn't seem to notice or care she didn't get the right color, but I was surprised a little store like this wouldn't bend over backwards on the customer service front. The ice cream (I stole a few bites) was surprisingly good though. The 99 cent bread stick I ordered for myself was decent. Seating was very limited at lunchtime but luckily it was nice outside and there were a couple empty tables out front. All in all, it was a fun experience. We will see how future visits go. read more

So we went in here on a afternoon where we had just ate but just wanted to get a few treats. They have a decent variety of candy to choose from. Some being super old school candy which is always cool. While we were in there though people were ordering the breadsticks and soup.. we sailed while we were there we would be back to try those but never did. I have NEVER posted a Yelp review before. Our experience with the staff at Judd's General Store yesterday was egregious enough to warrant this review. We are traveling through Utah and made a special trip to stop at this historical store. The store hours state it is open till 5:30pm and we arrive at 5pm only to find they closed. I knocked on the door to attempt to get one of the 2 women inside to verify closing time (knowing we would have ensured we came back before then). They ignored us and actually were laughing at us. I then called the store to ask what the closing time was and the woman who answered said "they were just dead tired so they decided to close." Flabbergasted, I asked for a manger, she said she was the owner (she is not!) and asked me if there was anything else I wanted. Not only was this woman very rude and sarcastic, she lied about being the owner-Really! JUST WOW! As much as we would like to patron this unique historical place, we will not given this experience! God I love this place! It is literally a 100 years old, and thus you have to make some concessions. The seating inside is minimal, and when sitting or browsing the soda and candy you will collide with somebody doing one or the other. People will put their crap on your table while they dig around to pay, and you are likely to see more butts in your face then you ever wanted while sitting and eating. Browsing is like a game of twist. But OH...forgive them! They carry many old sodas, about 8 shelves worth and they have some cold and ready for you if you like. Everyone giggles at Love Potion 69. My sister was mental for the Japanese marble soda. After we were eating our mother was standing by the soda shelves (not enough room to sit) looking over them again when she flipped: they had nesbits Orange soda, something she hadn't had since the 1960s. But she wanted the strawberry one. However just knowing they still made it made her day. The candy is old timey and good (black licorice, fake cigs, unicorn pops). They even have fountain drinks and cherry and vanilla syrup sitting out for you to add as you please. I adore them so! Other than this they have ice cream, which is sugary (only try superman if you're a 6 year old who wants diabetes) but very good (can't go wrong with chocolate!) They have a very limited food menu of sandwiches and soup and bread sticks. But here's the problem: they're so popular (and apparently after 100 years still underestimating that) that they run out. They had no sandwiches left when we went at 1pm on a Saturday. But they had tomato soup and breadsticks and it was delicious. My biggest complaint is not making enough non sugar foods so they don't run out, and closing at 5 every day...and closing on Sundays. I work: before 5 isn't happening. I wish they'd expand the hours considering how popular they are. I'd also like to add the staff was very friendly and helpful. A rarity sometimes! read more

I love going to old towns that still have original stores from like the 1800's still up and operating. Judd's has history in the store as well as right outside of it-all around it. Right when we drove up we could see people walking out of the store holding fresh long breadsticks with containers of soup. I knew right away that the breadsticks were a must try even though we were already full from breakfast. As we walked in we noticed all the cool varieties of old time drinks and candies for sale. It is a small store but was packed with people waiting in line for their famous soup and breadsticks. We were excited to see candy cigarettes and at the counter were big hellah soft pumpkin chocolate chip and chocolate chip cookies. OK those cookies were yummers and the bread was so soft however it didn't have too much taste but we imagined dunking the breadsticks into their yummy soup and I think that would be perfect. As we were leaving lots of school children were crossing the street to Judd's store for a field trip-NEAT!!!! This is a must try the next time I'm in St. George!!! I must try the soup!!!! read more

I hope they never close because they are a big part of the pioneer history here in St George. My absolute favorite place in the whole world. I grew up riding my bike to this place after school each day begging for samples or free candy haha. Hey as an 8 year old I was definitely on a tight budget. Don't pass up the coconut and tiger's blood snow cones or the old fashioned bottle root beer! The ambiance takes you back to a small town, mom and pop corner store. Each time I visit my hometown it seems that this is the ONLY place that never changes. I hope it stays that way. read more

This was the highlight of our St. George visit. For whatever reason, we've long ignored the downtown area, but took to Yelp for some new suggestions, and found this place to be a total gem. The menu is pretty simple: grilled cheese on wheat, soup du jour and breadsticks. Then as an added bonus, all the old fashioned candy and sodas you could hope for and case full of ice cream for the kid in you. The best thing about Judd's though, is the way they have maintained its old town charm. Stepping into Judd's is like stepping back in time. I love the charm of this old soda shop and I was honestly blown away by the lunch I had. Zucchini & Cheddar Soup sounded questionable to me, but it was like eating Thanksgiving in a bowl, and then dipping a breadstick in that bowl made it even better!
