Myself as well as my entire family have been long time patients of Dr. Jernigan, and they all still go to this practice that is why I wanted to come back. I just moved back to the area. When I called got an employee named Jasmine on the phone explained to her that I called and left a message to make an appointment last Friday around 1:00 after I had been seen in the ER and left a message and never received a returned call. Explained the situation to her, my father had spoken to Dr. Jones the week before and was told for me to call and he would be happy to see me. She took my date of birth and in a not very Friendly and proceeded to tell me that I would be considered a new patient and could not be seen until at least June or later. I explained that I had just been seen in the ER for blood pressure issues and needed to follow up within the next week or two and it did not matter to me who I saw and she once again rudely told me that there was nothing until at least June. Not we have a waiting list, nothing. I told her don't worry about it I would find another practice. As a "New Patient" was not a very good impression to say the least. I was also told that I was on a dismissal list from owing $20.00 from several months ago, when I explained that I divorced and moved and did not receive a letter and would be more than happy to pay the $20.00 I was told no and we still cannot see you. Very poor service after the service I received on the phone I would definitely not go to this practice. I will drive to the other side of town for a better experience any day.

In order to have both leaves approved, he mentioned that I'd have to take meds and stay in therapy. I didn't have a problem with the therapy; but the medicine I did. My problems and what exacerbated this disorder, I knew medicine could and would never fix. Sure, I tried the Escitalopram even after being scared eand advised to take it as prescribed by Dr. Heatwole; and it helped the anxiety more than it did the depression. However, as I'd mentioned once before to him, the deep seated issues that I've been struggling with continued to take precedence over top of being in a toxic work environment. I also explained to Dr. Heatwole that I'd previously and still continue to fail at finding work from home positions or a job that would be more suitable, as I just could not simply just quit my job. Dr. Heatwole just glossed over the root issues and continued to stay heavily focused on taking medicine over top of suggesting even more medication to stabilize my sleep and mood. I really didn't like the fact that I was pressured and rushed to go back to work. In 2017 after an 8 week leave, I still wasn't well and went back anyway because he 'thought' it was best. Of course, I still felt worse than ever. My last appointment for leave was the absolute worse. I mentioned that I'd lost my brother last September, lost 30 pounds in less than a year; and he had absolutely no remorse. He told me that in 8 months (counting with his fingers), a typical person would have gotten over losing someone!!!! He also mentioned that I needed to be careful exercising, and that people with my condition take this whole weight loss and exercising thing too far. I never mentioned an eating or any body dismorphic issues, so I don't know how my comment that I lost 30 pounds went to him saying that I needed to be careful exercising. A good doctor would applaud their patient for better lifestyle choices and losing weight to stay within a recommended weight range. Also, it is highly suggested for individuals with mental health issues to exercise, so I did not understand why Dr. Heatwole would say that, despite that I didn't mention anything alarming. I was actually 28 pounds overweight prior to losing the 30 pounds, and was severely emotionally eating from 2-3 fast food meals A DAY, still no brownie points there. This time around, he suggested me to go back to work in 4 weeks because as he mentioned, "We sort of need to kind of rush this thing to get you back to work as soon as possible, because I don't want you in the house by yourself thinking about all of your problems"....well hell, being at work makes it feel like I've entered eternal damnation with my thoughts! It doesn't matter where I am, mental illness isn't just a switch to turn off! It should never be about what a doctor wants, it's about the patient's well-being and what a patient feels would be best for them. I cannot work a demanding and toxic job that has greatly contributed to me not healing or feeling any better, and I really didn't know what else to tell him. Anyone with mental illness know that it's a chronic and sometimes a life-long issue. I have been struggling for over 16 years. Dr. Heatwole seems to think that medicine would help me to cope better, and that did not happen considering the layers of stress and rooted issues were always at the forefront. It seems as if he no longer wants me as a patient based off of my last visit with those crude comments. No worries there, I won't be going back to him. Sure as he mentioned, he's been doing this for a long time and 'know' patients like me. Well, it's not right to compare patients to one another even if we struggle with the same thing. Everybody's path and level of emotional pain is different. For over 6 years, I had been seeing Dr. Heatwole and recommended him to a few peers; because of his thoroughness during previous visits. If it wasn't for how he handled these two medical leaves, I would continue to stay a patient. Perhaps he no longer has the patience to deal with my mental disorders, and surely being a sufferer, I do not either.

We have several members of our family with very specific health needs and Dr. Carl and his staff keep us up to date so we don't have to remember all of the details! They take care of it for you. Making appointments is as easy as can be. Prescription refills are always checked and evaluated and dispensed appropriately. Cathy is the lead nurse and she is always super organized and extremely helpful and communicative! Colleen is such a sweet and welcoming member of WellcomeMD. I always love seeing her face!:) Heidi is fabulous on the phone and great with communications. She gets the job done! But when it comes to your health, your relationship with your doctor, it's an intimate dynamic because it requires clarity and trust on the part of the doctor and patient. Dr. Carl is so relaxed that he puts his patients at ease immediately. He is thorough and goes through all of your blood panels with you one-on-one and makes excellent suggestions and also is complimentary if he feels that you are doing well. He will prescribe supplementation only if it is reflected as needed in your bloodwork. Personally, my blood pressure zooms up every time I go to the doctor. But with Dr. Carl, he brings it back to normal and puts me at ease. Obviously, my entire family and I are fans of WellcomeMD. I recommend Dr. Carl and Dr. Colfer to everyone I know! As an aside, we drive 1.5 hours each way, just to be a part of their practice. They are THAT good.

But for planned care appointments, my experiences have been as positive as they could be. I was treated with courtesy, politeness, and respectful care for each visit. Reception staff was efficient and patiently gave instructions and directions for check in. The Lab Corp technicians were incredibly kind and accommodating when I didn't feel well after a blood draw. The doctors and nurses I dealt with for procedures explained each step of the process and made sure I was comfortable. I really appreciate that from medical staff. Unfortunately my ER experience was not as pleasant. I was there on a Sunday night due to possible complications from a procedure earlier that week. Initial triage and placing an IV port was fairly prompt, within 30 minutes, but I then waited more than three hours to be seen. During that time a man suffering a true emergency arrived (screaming in pain and violently vomiting) and the staff took their sweet time to wheel him in and then took far too long again to get him from the waiting room. When I was finally seen a doctor did a very quick confirmation that I didn't need any immediate treatment and told me I could leave. But the staff actually forgot that I was in the room to give me discharge papers and remove my IV! I had to find someone myself. In all I was there for 5 hours and probably 15 minutes of it with medical staff. It also cost me well of $500 out of pocket after insurance.

Oh yes, my doc's order was there and yes, they could make an appt for me. Did anyone tell me I was supposed to call them to get this done? NO. Who is in charge now? Can we get the adults back?
