When I adopted my puppy from them, O***** pointed out the umbilical hernia to me. I asked her if I should be concerned and she told me no. She said that they would take care of it when I brought him back in to be neutered. After I brought him home from the neutering procedure, I noticed that his hernia, which has always been fairly small but immediately visible, was still showing. I thought that maybe it just needed time to stop showing since he had just had the procedure done, so I didn't worry about it. My neighborhood vet confirmed that the hernia had not been addressed when I brought my puppy in to them for a larger cone. I called and explained the situation to the receptionist and she asked me if they were supposed to fix the hernia when he was neutered. I let her know that's what I was advised before I paid my adoption fee. She said she'd have O***** call me back. Upon receiving the call back, I was told that I should have let them know of my concern with his hernia. I told her that I had no concerns with his hernia because, when I adopted him, she had let me know that it wasn't a big deal and that they would take care of it. After a conversation where the blame was placed on me for not saying I was concerned about his hernia when I brought him in to be neutered, she admitted that she couldn't find where she had noted that he had an umbilical hernia in his paperwork, so that was "Her bad" (her words), but she didn't know what I expected them to do. I told her that I expected them to put my dog back on the operating table and take care of the hernia that they told me they were going to take care of when I brought him in to be neutered. She advised that she would talk to the doctor and let me know what they could do. About 30 minutes later the business manager called to get an explanation of the situation. I told her what happened and she advised that because of what she deemed to be miscommunications from the adoption coordinator (maybe her title) and the fact that I didn't reiterate my concerns about my dog's hernia when I brought him in, they'd be willing to complete the hernia surgery for a smaller than normal fee. I let her know that I wasn't trying to be unreasonable, but O**** made it sound like the hernia correction was a part of his neutering, which should mean no additional fee and if there was one, that should have been disclosed at the time of the adoption. She said that O***** may have been wanting to assure me that it was a simple procedure, especially since my dog would already be under anesthesia for the neutering procedure, in an attempt to ease any worries that I had and just wasn't clear in her explanation, not providing enough details. The business manager went on to say that I should have let them know of my concerns about his hernia when I brought him in. I reiterated to her that I had no concerns since they had said it would be taken care of when I brought him in for the procedure. She then said that since both I and O***** were partly to blame for the mishap, they could perform the surgery for just the cost of the required supplies and that they could do it early the following week. She said that had he been a female dog, the person performing his surgery would have seen it and taken care of it during his procedure, but since my dog was a male dog, the spot where his hernia was would have likely been covered up during the procedure. I told her that I would think about it. As I thought about it, while their main mistakes were miscommunicating how things would be handled, making it seem as though his hernia being taken care of during the procedure was a part of the adoption fee since he had the hernia when I saw him initially and trying to initially place the blame on me, when the fact that O***** didn't note his chart with the details about his hernia definitely seemed like what likely caused the issue, I was concerned about the fact that they were willing to put my dog, who had just gotten out of surgery just a couple of days before, back on the operating table so soon. I decided not to take them up on their offer to address his hernia because I just didn't feel comfortable for that reason and a few other reasons. I typed this review up as soon as I got off of the phone with them, but decided to wait to post it until I wasn't so upset. Now, months later, I am posting it because I want others who adopt their pets from there to be aware and get EVERYTHING in writing as it is explained to them no matter HOW they make it seem like things will be handled. Their timely contact during the time that I was contacting them about setting up an appointment to see my dog before I adopted him and during this entire mess was good, but this situation could have definitely been handled much better. read more
