The gentlemen at the Donation Collection area was very rude to me and yelled at me because of where I parked to drop my donations. Did not greet me with a smile as he was doing with the lady before. Made it seem like my stuff was not worth his time. I will take my donations somewhere else like the Salvation Army where I feel more appreciated. read more

Quite possibly the worst Goodwill experience ever. Even worse than the poopy diaper in the purse incident. I mistakenly extended my hand towards the wares cart came to a complete stop. (The cart travelled 6" more). My bad. Didn't need the public berating by the female employee on her power trip. This happened towards the end of the day when the usual wares cart sharks weren't even in attendance. Always thought the offering of clothes were the worst in St. Louis area. Worst because of smells emanating from what is hung up. Stained and torn items get hung up as well. I think customers might be wiping their hands on the clothing after touching the consistently sticky "wares", I know I thought about doing the same. Had a number of household items in good condition. Pulled up and was assisted by a very enthusiastic gentleman who assured me that all my donations would be put to good use. He assisted me in getting the things out of my trunk and into a shopping cart for transport into the store. I was in and out in less than ten minutes. They have a great books section, with all types. They had a good selection of big names (Dan Brown, Janet Evanovich, Clive Cussler, etc.), most books were a buck or less. Their bike selection was pretty nice, several adult bikes in good condition around $30. I found a nice living room lamp, and the cashier pointed me to an outlet to make sure it worked. I had not been in for awhile but I went in maybe a couple of weeks ago because my daughter needed jeans. The whole store was redone and everything is labeled well. The only price not up in the store were the scarves -they are $3 each. There is now more space to walk around and things are more neatly displayed instead of just "thrown" on the shelf. While making a left hand turn into this place can be scary depending on the time of day, and the parking lot can be packed, an they don't always post what the discount of the day is, I still keep coming back. I couldn't tell you why. I guess it's because the location is convenient for me - I do grocery shopping in Brentwood. I can usually find some decent clothes for both me and my husband. And sometimes it's fun to look through all the crazy unorganized housewares. Now that I think about it, I probably come back again and again because of the amazingly low prices. My secret place to buy books, they have a lot! I usually walk out of here with a few at a time. I've never looked through their clothes or anything else - usually just straight back to their housewares and books section. They do seem to get frequent shipments or donations from Target of things that had been on clearance - I have bought things here that were obviously brand new and still in packaging, but for just a few bucks. The store itself seems kind of a mess and is always crowded, but for the few minutes I'm in here, it's not a big deal. I have visited here a few times and alway the same result, this place has a very poor inventory of anything but tired looking clothing. the furniture section is very weak and I think you might do better driving up and down the streets of UCity during bulk trash day. Love this location I've been donating here for about 4 years. Recently my hubs mad and I moved into a new home and we had many big items to donate. We had to make a few trips over a few days. The first time we went they where changing trailers so they had orange cones up so you could not donate, but one of the guys took our large item any way. I love going to Goodwill to browse and have rarely went there and not purchased anything. This isn't about the store. Today, I took a carload of items to the donation area. There were at least 10 men standing around talking. Several of the items were very heavy, and I was sure one of those men would offer to help, but no, they continued talking and watched me try to lift the heavy items by myself. If they were concerned for their health, they could have used gloves, but they weren't even wearing masks, so, I'm going to have to go with they were just lazy. Goodwill serves an important function in St Louis and I am very passionate about making sure my useful things go to them instead of the trash. This location is of average cleanliness, organization and friendliness. No complaints, but also nothing that stands out above all else. I make a run to them every few months and this is my goto location due to convenient distance from work. I have also purchased a very nice silk suit from here for $30, and it's one of my favorites! So this place was packed with customers. They have a large range of items in this store. Whole front is clothing with the home goods in the back. Seemed several people were fighting over a couple of items. Lol Saw people trying to google things for prices-figured they resale items. But overall place was organized great for a thrift store. I came saturday March 18.. morning with a truck load to donate. I arrived approximately 8:55am and they had gates up blocking cars. No big deal, they don't open til 9, which i knew. at 9:06 I was still waiting. No sign of workers, now 3 other cars behind me waiting to donate. Again, no big deal...I called in confirmed time they start taking donations was 9am. I said, ok no big deal, i'm here now waiting 3 other cars. Said very casually and politely. She said, ok i'll send the guys out. 2 guys come out to remove the gates, one is shouting "Hey who called in asking us to come out!?!? I said that was me, and he responds "our clocks don't say 9am, we gotta go by our clocks".. clearly he is irritated. I said no big deal, i was more just making sure you open at 9 (instead of 10 or 11).. . I pull the truck up, and the dude is already exclaiming we can't take this.. Referring to the couch. It has a tear. I say ok, kinda expected that. YOu can take everything else though? He says no, if one piece is bad, can't take whole load. Realizing he's retaliating against me now because i called in .. i confirm soooo nothing can be taken? nope. new rule he says. Ok, i'll call your manager i said, and left very unhappy. Called manager in the car.. Stephanie. same answer...also points out there are no clocks back there so they have no idea what time it is and is why they weren't out at 9am.. OK, so every morning they just guess what time it is or wait til someone calls to tell them they are waiting to donate something?!?!?!?! Talk about bad management! Stephanie tells me to drop off the couch and come back and they will take the load. WHAT?!?! Makes no sense!!!! Drove to CWE goodwill. Guess what? they took everything but the couch. if you ever see the goodwills cleaning off their shelves you can bet it the items that are sellable are going to the trash .. their prices are so high that if they don't sell in a week they don't want to do a mark down so they throw them away .. usually on sundays but now it is when ever when they clean off the shelves .. the next time you go into a goodwill and there isn't much on the shelves you can bet it is in the trash !! i cringe every time i hear '' donate to goodwill it's for a good cause'' i asked them why they don't do mark downs they said '' people have to buy it for what we price it at '' newspapers , television ,bring a '' camera '' go to a goodwill and take photos of their dumpsters and let the people see where their donations are really going !! inform people that goodwill isn't as honest as they pretend to be .. at least not the festus / crystal city mo. goodwill ! i've seen what they throw away... i and i am pretty sure they are all like that check them random but be sure to get festus / crystal city mo holiday donations are included halloween as high as stores if not higher same with christmas .. what didn't sell right in the trash it goes .. worth checking into don't you think so ? I come here a few times a week and I've had some of my better thrift store finds here. The ONLY goodwill that I've ever seen to organize their books by type which is great. Also a bunch of regulars who sit around waiting for the new stuff to come out, which I realized is a great idea because that's how ya get the good shit. The cleanest, brightest Goodwill in St. Louis. -The section with duffle bags was clean. And the bags were clean. I can't say as much for other Goodwill stores. It's not that anything is different at this store, but it seems different, which is enough. -Many of the women's clothing items seem to be cast-offs from Ladue teenagers and their mothers. So you'll find nice shirts here and Ladue HS sweatshirts. There was a large selection in the 15-18 year-old range and a lot in the middle-aged range, but less in the twenty-something range. -The men's clothing looks like stuff the Ladue mothers stole from their husband's and son's closets because they don't want the latter wearing it anymore. But I did score a cool, slightly quirky tee shirt for my boyfriend. -Best Goodwill for jewelry and accessories. read more

You can find NEW clothes somewhere else cheaper. Ive been here quite often over the years. The more they advertise on radio billboard and TV the higher the prices get. Plus they built new stores in blighted areas all over St. Louis (and all the Goodwill stores are ALL NEW). Then, some executive at Goodwill got busted embezzling a million dollars last year . Not to mention they give away trips to Disneyland for donating every year. They really pride themselves on that good feeling you get when you donate. They are just pulling heartstrings for their own profit. Personally I felt like they took my stuff, jacked up the price so poorer people couldn't afford it. NOT A GOOD FEELING AT ALL. This goodwill on the old Manchester Road is actually bigger than the one on Watson Road, just that the stuff inside is meh. When I get into hipster mode, I search this city high and wide for stores like these, but much to my dismay the men's section inside here had little to offer as far as ironic tee-shirts go. Most of the threads here are really faded, and more suitable to serve as rags. The furniture stuffs are pure garbage. This is my secret favorite store. As a Goodwill "Elite" shopper, I refer to it as shopping at the "G-dub" or "GW". This store flips clothes faster than McKayla Maroney on the vault. You'll find a lot of Target brand clothes with the tags and mid-tier brand name items. I don't like Goodwill that much because they are a for profit company that poses as a non-profit company. However, when I have stuff that I want to get rid of... I "donate". When somebody wants to walk around the store with me... I sometimes find something to buy. (I bought a Spider-man statue that was new overstock from a store this time.) Yes, I know they sift through all the stuff & save the recognizable collectibles/expensive items from being sold here. Yes, I know that I can get items cheaper at "close-out" at the stores before they donated the item to Goodwill. However, sometimes I find a cheap enough item that works and I just don't care. But my word of advice is that simple items like furniture that is 50% off may be an all right deal because few things can go wrong. Complicated mechanical items like a microwave that is 50% off is a bigger gamble. read more

My BEST find was a $200 contemporary computer desk (still available online) for $60. Found a wonderful picnic basket complete with dishes and wine goblets for a romantic picnic just today! I got a pretty dress here today for $5. It was brand new with the tags on it still from Target. I actually tried this dress on at the beginning of the season at Target, and didn't want to pay $20+ for it. $5 was definitely worth it though! So...my trip was a success. I like this store, I am a tall guy 6'6", so shopping for clothes here for myself is out of the question, but I always find good stuff for my daughter. She is 4 and growing quickly. I'm a single dad and money is really tight for us and they have nice quality kids clothes for under $2. I think because this store is near a nicer area of the city they get better stuff, but my daughter is wearing Janie and Jack, babyGap, and even sometimes I will find a Lily Pulitzer dress. You have to really dig and have a lot of patience. I usually stop by a couple times a month. I also snag a toy sometimes on the cheap. The other reviews knock their adult clothes and I can't speak to that, but if you need to dress your kiddos in style and can put in a little effort, this is the spot. I also, like the one on Olive as well and they have a little bigger selection. read more

I was at this store this week and boy have they been busy. A total remodel is happening and it looks great. I found some great bargains while I was there. They have a new manager who is so friendly and have a really good selection of stuff even in the middle of all the work being done. My hats off to the new Brentwood. I look forward to future visits.
