For any spice lovers out there, I WARN YOU to be careful with the Cluckin' hot sauce. After trying their Cluckin' Hot Sandwhich, I literally thought I was dying. Being of Asian descent, I LOVE hot n spicy stuff, and have some type of decently spicy sauce (habanero, ghost, and sometimes reaper pepper sauces) every single day.. They really weren't kidding when they said that the sandwich was an 11/10 hot.. because I feel like I'm on cloud nine from that spice high after taking 2 small bites, and it's been 10 minutes since that.. sweating as I type this out, nostrils are flowing, the pain could be described as biting onto a molten rock of lava, I'm hanging on by a thread. Maybe I'm overreacting.. maybe I'm just a wuss and really can't handle as much spice as I thought I could.. but upon looking at the JuJu Bird Profile on the Downtown GR Market website, the website says quote: "Most of their sauces are created in-house including the Garlic Parm and the SOCLUCKIN' HOT, which is so spicy, it's more of an extreme challenge than a meal! Best hot chicken sandwich I've tried so far (and I've been to the popular Hattie B's in Nashville TN). It's messy, but everything was great on it - the bun never got soggy, the spice was great on the chicken, the flavor was great on the chicken, slaw and sauce. I was impressed. Juju Bird is a new fried chicken counter at the Downtown Market. I've been following their progress on social media for weeks and have been so excited for them to open. I love Nashville hot chicken and try it anywhere I can but no place in town really got it right...until now! Juju Bird offers sandwiches, traditional and boneless wings, chicken tenders, chicken pieces, sides, and birdy cones, which are waffles cones full of fried chicken and deliciousness like ranch, bacon, Mac and cheese, etc. We stopped in on their opening day and ordered the Nashville hot chicken sandwich (comes with curly fries) and a 12 piece boneless wing. You can make it a combo for $4 more, which adds a drink from their cooler (Brix sodas and bottled water) and a side. They have 3 hot sides, Mac and cheese, mashed potatoes and gravy, and curly fries. You can also pick cold sides from the cooler. They have other sauces you can choose like honey BBQ, garlic Parmesan, Buffalo Bleu, teriyaki Fiya and something called SO CLUCKIN' HOT in addition to the Nashville hot. I tried to get the So Cluckin Hot because other Nashville hot chicken in town is never spicy enough! Fortunately I wasn't clear when I ordered and got all Nashville hot instead. The food took a bit to come out but it was so worth it! The boneless wings were SUPER crispy and covered in actually spicy, Nashville Hot oil! I was so glad I didn't get the super hot ones because they probably would have been too spicy for me. If you don't like spice, do not get the Nashville hot! It's hotter than any other place I've had it here in GR. If you've been to Hattie B's, Juju Bird's Nashville hot is about the same as their medium level. The chicken is amazing quality, super juicy and tender and not chewy or tough at all. The sandwich was also good but pretty big to eat gracefully. The boneless wings were definitely the favorite. The Mac and cheese and fries were both pretty good but nothing too spectacular. My five stars is all for the boneless wings! Total for everything was close to $30 so a little pricey but we would split something next time. I will absolutely be back! As a visitor to Grand Rapids, I had to check out their Downtown Market, and I was amazed by the variety of food choices in the area. This place stood out to me as the best. I have tasted many amazing Chicken Sandwiches being from Chicago and this place can easily rank among the best in the Midwest. I love spicy food so I had to get the Hot Chicken Sandwich, which comes with fries. It was so tender and juicy and it was a big chunk of chicken. You can see it was freshly made/made to order. Also, I tried their chicken special of their leg and thigh with parmesan garlic sauce on the side for 5 dollars. It was good too. The sauce was excellent. The service here was amazing with the cashier and chef being patient and diligent with my questions and making my food. I will definitely come back here again whenever I'm in Grand Rapids. We are on the hunt for the best wings in Grand Rapids, and Juju Bird did not disappoint. The sauces are the best we've tried, especially Parmesan Garlic!!! Buffalo, teriyaki, and honey bbq were all wonderful as well. The ranch is delicious and the wings stayed hot for the 10 minute drive home. Unfortunately, the skin of the wings was a little tough, but we think that's because of being in the to-go container for the drive. Also, we typically bake our wings at home, so I think I just forgot what a deep-fried wing tastes like. We also thought the boneless wings were great. We chose Juju's to try this go-around because they note that their chicken is raised naturally on local farms, and it definitely tasted of higher quality compared to your average cheap wing joint. We were excited to stop in and try the newest restaurant at the downtown market! The service wasn't the fastest but I'll never complain if the quality is above average. She didn't ask if I wanted ranch/blue cheese and I didn't realize until we found a table upstairs. The menu only listed an dipping sauce option for 12 wings but I should have asked. I believe they would have charged 50 cents for additional sauces. The wings were nothing special and the meat had too much of a bite to it. The sandwich however, was fantastic. After walking around the downtown market several times, I could not decide where I wanted to eat. I ended up choosing this place because it sounded good, but honestly every place sounded good. Maybe I did just want chicken. Service was normal. I got an order of 4 wings (each wing is a full wing, drum attached to flat) and an order of fries. I got the hot teriyaki flavor. It was so good! Not overly spicy, a good kick on your tongue but it all depends on your spice tolerance. I would say my spice tolerance is about a 6/10. I agree with other reviews that the wings could be bigger and the temperature of the wings could be warmer. Flavor was spot on though and their fries were amazing. I'll say their fries sold me on being so crispy, especially for being thick cut fries. So glad to finally try this cool addition to the Downtown Market! I ordered the three piece fried chicken combo with curly fries. The combo deal was a great deal because once you pick your chicken, for only four dollars more you can choose from any of the hot sides (which range from 3-4 dollars) and get a bottled drink from the cooler. I chose a side of curly fries with my meal, which were served generously in a separate basket from my chicken. This all rang in at $11- which I thought was super reasonable for the area. I ordered my chicken "Juju Butter" style because I was too chicken (get it?) to try the Nashville Hot based on other reviews! The whipped butter was sinfully delicious with just a touch of sweetness. It was a little weird dunking something in straight up butter, but it tasted exactly as good as dunking something in butter sounds. The flavor was on point, but the texture of the butter was a little bit too hard. Overall, though, very yummy. The chicken was good as well. It was greasy but not overly so, and the flavor was good and the skin was perfectly crispy. The three wing meal with the curly fries was SO MUCH FOOD. I'm so glad I only got three pieces! I couldn't finish it all by myself. I would definitely visit Juju Bird again. I'm curious about their wings and overall just want to explore more of their menu (maybe next time I'll be brave enough to try the Nashville Hot style!) My boyfriend and I have been anticipating this opening! I love the variety of quality lunch spots available in the downtown market and we certainly needed a solid fried chicken joint downtown. The wings were the highlight! The breading was light but crispy and doesn't fall off while you eat. The sauces were the best part and they have a var. We ordered Nashville hot and parm garlic. Nashville hot was yummy but not spicy at all so I will look forward to trying their so cluckin hot! The parm garlic was superb in all its creaminess!!! Wings were respectable and if I had to rate them I give them a 7/10. We also ordered a Ultimate Chicken Sandwich. It had fried chicken, pickles, egg and bacon with a spicy garlic mayo and came with a side of curly fries. The sandwich was visually very pleasing. It is hugeee which makes it a little difficult to eat but they were generous with portions. I felt that the bun sort of overwhelmed the flavors and I didn't quite pick up the spicy garlic mayo at all. However, the breading of the chicken was still delightful. Both of us LOVED the fries. Sandwich gets a 6/10. Frankly, the chicken itself is cooked perfectly! I saw that you can order a whole bird and I would love to try it sometime with juju butter! I might bring one to Friendsgiving because I think it would be a great addition. The biggest thing that stood out negatively was the time it took to get our food (15-20 minutes). I'm a big fan of GOOD fried chicken. Some of the best chicken I've eaten was in Nashville. When I heard about Juju Bird's opening I was excited to try it. End result, I would have been happier flying to Nashville. I had the hot chicken sandwich which was simply tough fried chicken swimming in a sauce. Difficult to eat and very messy as the sauce was dumped on without any regard for how one was to eat the sandwich. I'll admit it wasn't terrible but at best it was only OK given the lack of flavor and toughness. Fries that came with the sandwich were better than OK but not really memorable. My wife had the chicken strips. I had a sampling of these as well and while the breading was light, the chicken was tough and flavorless. The honey mustard was pretty good and helped but I can honestly say I've had better chicken strips in chain restaurants. I don't care for mashed potatoes but my wife loves them and as they were available as a side, she chose them. They were not good either-very watery. She just pitched them after a couple of tastes.
