Such a beautiful place. We had dinner here and much to our disappointment the experience did not match the pricing. For the price this should be a dining experience. Customer experience should be at the top of priority. My husband and I enjoy fine dining however this is like being charged for fine dining with a fast food experience. To start with the menus are paper. The waitress, Madison, was not able to describe any of the menu items. She never cleared the tables. We were still eating when she asked if we wanted our desserts yet. When she returned, she delivered dessert and did not remove the dinner plates. Not very friendly. I think if going to charge $69 for filet mignon or $47 for fried chicken then I believe the staff should be trained to provide an entire experience. Much needed work to step up the game. We won't return. Keep driving, go to Highlands and enjoy a wonderful meal along with a fantastic experience at Old Edwards Inn. Prices are better as well. read more

When you drive up you think you are at the most picturesque setting with a stunning restaurant. That is where the 'magic' stops. Upon being sat (we were one of two parties in the whole entire restaurant, and it is large. (should've been our first red flag) the waiter told us of the items on the menu that were NOT available. Menu still had very nice selections. That's about where it stopped. Ordered crab cakes (there were two of them about the size of a scallop, maybe as big as a half dollar. No remoulade sauce as stated in the description) Had asked for a salad as it was a choice of the one sides that came with the cakes. Was THEN told that a salad was an upcharge as most people ordered salads as their side and it was how they could make more off sides. I made the comment that evidently romaine lettuce had escalated in price! Rejected that thought and went for the sauteed vegetables. Well, these sauteed vegetables were shaved vegetable sticks and I literally counted and there were 8 sticks of shaved vegetables served with the crab cakes. I guess the Owner (and it is a She as the waiter kept referring to 'her') was attempting to cut even more corners, so to speak. Also order the lamb chops (Medium Rare) that came with two sides - brussel sprouts and mashed potatoes. Brought the chops well done and I sent them back. Returned with them (but not until after my spouse was thru with her dinner) and they were tough and grisly - but Mediumd Rare. The brussel sprouts were 2.5 of them (split in half that makes 5 of them) so again, another way for Her to cut corners. 'Manager' came out to ask about my chops and I showed him the bits I had to spit out on my plate. He took that plate without a comment. Server came to clear the table and I shared my 'thoughts' with him politely and he stated he got those remarks quite often. Upon leaving (nothing was comped or even offered a dessert) (and I did tip the server as it was not his fault but the person who owns the place) I looked at previous reviews and saw it was 2.2 out of 5 star. My wife and I were planning to stay at Julep Farms for a three night, kid-free, babymoon getaway. Unfortunately, our family was faced with a COVID-positive as of the week of our trip, so we made the difficult but responsible decision to cancel our trip, in consideration of others' safety (including JF's employees and other guests). Despite multiple efforts, phone calls and messages to communicate this directly to the owners of Julep Farms, in order to work through a reasonable solution, even offering to reschedule our trip to a later date, the owner refused to refund any of our money and charged us the full amount. So instead of doing the right thing and offering to host us at a later (and safer) date, the owner offered no understanding or even conversation (would not even return my phone calls). Good luck with that short-sighted business plan, Julep Farms. We will NEVER visit here now, especially knowing that they treat their customers, staff and guests with such carelessness, rudeness and recklessness (see: CDC, DPH and WHO guidelines on COVID prevention). Furthermore, we plan to share our frustrations and concerns over this Julep Farms "experience" with everyone we can. One star is too generous...wish there was a zero star option. read more

I have enjoyed the dining options that Highlands has to offer and by comparison this is at the top even though it is at the base of the mountain. Great concept, horrible costumer service, watch out for fees/fines We stayed at the Sweet Tea cottage for three nights. Four days after check out, we were charged a $300 pet fee and were accused via email that we brought a dog. We don't own pets and most certainly did not bring a dog. I immediately called and explained we don't own a dog, 2 family members have allergies/ asthma and we specifically look for rental properties with no pet policies. Further, they could have easily noted no evidence of a dog in the cottage. I was dismissed by DN who said she would call me back. Three days later I still had not heard back so I sent an email asking for follow up and provided our phone numbers. The next day I received a rude email from KT again accusing us of having a dog, that they would not remove the pet fee from our credit card and stated: "We will no longer be disputing this with you via email." However, they would not call back either my husband or I. Finally, my husband called again and asked to speak to the owner who did refund the pet fee. I had been planning a girls weekend for the spring here but after this experience, we will not be back and will not recommend this property to family, friends and any one reading this review. Also if you read the comments from the "owner" on any negative Google review you can see their condescending tone. Overall very disappointing as we love visiting this area, either from Lake Burton or on our way to Highlands. That will definitely be our last visit. read more

While you could attribute all of the shortcomings I experienced during my visit / dinner at Julep Farms to the staffing shortages noted on the welcome note at the entry, it doesn't change the reality that the service level in this place is atrocious. I feel for the owners as the dilemma must be incredibly stressful. For the specifics...no one greeted us, ask for a drink order etc. for ten minutes or so. When we were finally greeted and asked for a drink order, we were again left unattended for ten to fifteen minutes. Eventually I saw what I thought was our drink order sitting on the bar, with ice melting, while a tall thin gentleman wearing a sport coat and soccer shoes (?) chatted with a young blonde female who I assume was the bartender, neither of them engaged with a single customer during my entire visit. I finally got up walked over to the bar and asked if that was our drink order to which the young female bartender replied I don't know. I asked if she'd mind checking it to which she grudgingly complied. Once we established that it was my order she handed me the drinks without offering to bring them to our table or an apology, she could not have cared less. The tall fellow did insist on going in and out of the door beside our table, constantly letting cold air into the main room. Otherwise he didn't seem to do much other than wander around the room without engaging with anyone, seemingly unaware of the poorly run team he was some part of. The staff are wholly untrained for a restaurant in this class range. The overall absence of service, with the exception of the seating hostess, was shocking....and disappointing at those prices. In reality the food wasn't great either, the Cesar salad was tiny and mediocre, the shrimp and grits were bland and just OK at best, and the desserts were like something purchased from Costco and plated in-house. Overall very disappointing experience. I hope the owners can solve their staffing shortages as well as the employee training, knowledge and management issues. read more

We stayed 3 nights in the Sweet Tea and it was a lovely cottage. We enjoyed our walks to the social house for coffee and dinner as well! The view is peaceful, private and sitting on the patio was a joyful experience. The layout was comfortable and the appointments made me want to redecorate when I got home, which was today. It is so bright and energizing! One tip, the lighting for makeup was perfect simply by opening the blind in the bathroom facing the gravel road. I read some reviews where people complained about the signs regarding fees for this and that. This is not Motel 6! They don't have 100 extra towels in a washroom to replace the one you steal because you enjoyed it so much. Our cottage was clean when we arrived so I have no complaints in that department. The area is a small town and this is a small business. We enjoying meeting the owners Rick and Lauren during our stay and they were very proud to show us the farm! They also were just featured in Southern Living this month! How exciting! read more

The service, food, and ambience are all always excellent! We sat at the bar and enjoyed an appetizer and a glass of wine as we waited for our table. George was an excellent bartender. We were then shown to our table and enjoyed our delicious meal. My husband had the salmon and I had the shrimp with fettuccine.....both were nicely prepared. To start with, the atmosphere is beautiful. Mountains all around, beautiful farmhouse buildings, fire pit and area for yard games - great way to entertain kids of all ages! The restaurant was delicious and the service was great. The market is great, too. Nice mix of merchandise. Only recommendation would be to improve coffee. They do take reservations. It's a bit of a drive for us so guaranteeing a table makes the drive much more worth it. We will be returning! read more

My 94 year old mother, my sister and myself thought that we had found our yearly retreat after experiencing great sadness as we have lost children and spouses. We had a very scary experience with carbon monoxide from the fireplace (the fireplace being part of the experience). Unfortunately we did not read the small card above the fireplace that instructed guests to not have the fp on for longer than 45 minutes. However, the instructions on the card did not indicate how long to leave the fireplace off....only run once/day...twice, etc.? Our mother was asleep and my sister and myself were enjoying the fp when the carbon monoxide alarm began to go off. We woke our mother up and got her outside for air. Neither my sister or myself felt well and she called the JF number. The man she spoke with made excuses and said that we kept the fp on too long. She asked him to come because we were scared and didn't know how to make the alarm stop. He came (we later found out he was the owner Rick Weaver). He disconnected the alarm and the fp so we could not use it anymore. He admitted this had happened before and he had thoughts of installing an automatic shut off valve to the fireplaces in the cottages. He also quickly opened windows, offered us a free breakfast, and left us there with door and windows open with our 94 year old mother outside in the cold air (almost midnight). He never apologized or showed any concern for our well-being. My sis has made several calls and emails. Management she has communicated with have been kind but Rick Weaver has not been. Because of our weekend disappointment and the danger we found ourselves in we asked for our $1200 trip to be refunded. Rick still very unsympathetic said that all he could do was $300. My reason for this negative review is hopefully to save a life. Julep Farms is beautiful and our experience with the food has been amazing. But when guests spend their hard earned money for a get away they want to feel that they are safe. The buzz about this place is dead on and nothing short of fantastic. My friend recently attended a wedding here and absolutely gushed over how wonderful the facility was, so naturally, I had to find out for myself. I took my fiancé there (as somewhat of a surprise - told her I booked a random airbb) and really can't say enough about the charm of this place. From the on site restaurant (Julep kitchen I think) to the pick your own flowers field it was just a lot of fun (seriously tho, pick your own flowers , who does that!). The entire property was very tastefully created and we really had enough to do to stay busy all day (and that's just sticking to the farm premises). We drank craft cocktails, walked around the property, played for hole, checked out the farm animals, laid in the sun by the creek, etc. As far as the food, I had the crab cakes and my fiancé had shrimp and grits - both were fantastic, and again, I can't say enough about the ambiance, so nice. They were actually featuring some produce that was grown on site, I thought that was pretty cool. Staff was professional and informed - as expected at a place like this. We have plans to go back later in the year and this time we are bringing a group of people to kinda experience the property with friends too (of course we reserved one of the larger cabins to accommodate more folks) . Can't wait! PS I was able to chat with the owners after dinner service and they are super nice - very welcoming. read more

We made reservations for 12:45 and called immediately after to let them know our situation and to confirm they could accommodate us. They assured us it would be not problem. We arrived at 12:35 to check in and were told we would have a 35 minute wait despite having a reservation. At 1:10 we go back to find out what the problem is and we're told they were no longer seating us where they had previously confirmed (outside since we were on vacation and had our dog) and suggested we just "leave the dog in the car". The lack of customer service, lack of caring that we have 6 children waiting to eat, and then suggesting to leave an animal in a hot car after saying we would be seated accordingly is beyond ridiculous. We left after wasting 1.5 hours waiting for this uncaring staff to even act as though they were trying to accommodate what they had previously said was no problem.
