    Wedding dress

This review is for the bridal department only. My initial appointment to pick out my dress went well and Yolanda made my experience special & fun. My first fitting went well too. It was the 4 fittings after that made my experience upsetting. My seamstress, Alice, started off doing a great job, but her work and professionalism for such a high quality establishment went downhill fast. We pinned the French bustle in the second fitting and discussed adding the buttons down the back of the dress. I sent pictures to Yolanda from the fitting for Alice to follow as well. The bustle was sewn crooked and much lower than what we had pinned and had taken photos of. We had the same conversation over and over about the buttons that Alice didn't get right until the 3rd fitting. Second, the right side of the neckline wouldn't lay flat, and she kept insisting it just needed pressing. I've worked as a full time fashion designer for over 8 years, 6 of these years in Manhattan designing activewear + sportswear and swimwear for major retailers. I understand garment construction very well as it's my profession. Alice finally agreed to take some of the fabric out of the neckline to help it lay flat (after multiple times of myself and my mother asking her to do so). To make a long story shorter, there were more issues that missed the mark on my dress that kept being met with the "it just needs pressing excuse" or some other excuse that was similar (where the skirt attaches to the bodice kept rolling and ultimately was sewn back on crooked and showed where the skirt was seam ripped in some places, the hook and eye on the back of the dress was exposed, the zipper had been pulled either too much or too tightly that the zipper tape was visibly showing in multiple areas along the back zipper). We're at my final fitting, and the neckline was fixed, but the hook and eye were still visible. When that was fixed, the neckline started to ripple again. After trying my dress on more than 9+ times that day to see if Alice's tweaks were working, we got to a place where it was okay, but the bodice below the neckline was now bubbling with fabric. Alice said she had to take the entire bodice apart and I would need to come back (I live in Austin and this was 1 week before my wedding). I asked her if she could try to take the volume out from the lining and she refused. Yolanda tried to ask as well and Alice continued to refuse saying the only way was to take the entire bodice apart. I politely asked her one more time (after many) if she would try the lining, and she said no and walked out of the fitting room back into the sewing room. I never saw her again, and I left in tears. So unbelievably unprofessional, not just for a high end retailer like Julian Gold, but any retailer for that matter. You can see the extra fabric bubbling in just the sneak peek of photos from my photographer and photos from family/friends, so sadly, I'm sure it will show up in more photos from my wedding day. The amount of money we paid and the agreement we made for alterations makes me incredibly upset for the quality and behavior we received, specifically from Alice. Julian Gold has beautiful dresses, but I would highly advise you to take your alterations elsewhere if it's your wedding dress.

The sketches Ms. Reed created for me to remind me of the gowns I had tried in. Very creative and a nice personal touch!

This is the BEST bridal salon in town (with some killer basic goods, too) - here's why: The first thing you need to do is ask for Yolanda.

I am extremely disappointed by the way my niece was treated by Olivia Grace Bridal…read more My niece recently got engaged and was excited to begin the process of finding her wedding dress. She made an appointment, only to receive a call from the shop canceling it. During that call, the associate asked her, "Do you even have a wedding date yet?" and questioned when she had gotten engaged and whether she had even started planning. She was also told that because they charge a fee to try on dresses, they suggested she get a wedding date first. There is absolutely nothing wrong with asking reasonable questions about an appointment, but the way these questions were presented came across as judgmental, dismissive, and condescending. A newly engaged bride should be made to feel excited and welcomed--not made to feel as though she isn't "engaged enough" or doesn't belong in the shop because she doesn't have every detail of her wedding planned yet. What makes this especially frustrating is that my niece was genuinely looking forward to shopping for her dress. I am her uncle, and I am fortunate enough to be purchasing her wedding dress for her. Whether that dress costs $1,000 or $10,000, the price isn't the issue. The issue is how she was made to feel. Unfortunately, Olivia Grace Bridal has lost our business before we ever even walked through the door. There are plenty of bridal shops that understand that every bride's planning process is different and know how to make a newly engaged woman feel special. My niece deserves to feel celebrated during this exciting time in her life. She will be finding her dress somewhere that appreciates her business and treats her with the respect and kindness she deserves.

Went to try on dresses here, and the shop's set up has been my favorite of all the shops so far…read morebecause of the large mirrors, large private rooms with curtains, and the large windows in the front to see how dresses look in the natural light, which is perfect if you plan on having and outdoor wedding. Emma was very helpful during my appointment, and she pulled several dresses for me. I was the only one in the shop at the time, so it felt like a very private and low stress environment. The prices ranged from 700-a couple of thousand dollars. There was a section with off-the-rack dresses, which were more on the cheaper side, and others in which you could order your size and color. Overall, I had a great experience here, and almost bought my dress here, but decided to keep looking and found my dress elsewhere.

Hi Swan Bridal/Emma,…read more Thank you for responding. I want to add clear, factual context for anyone reading. My original gown shopping experience with Taylor was positive, and I captured that sentiment in a completely separate 5-star review. This review and reply are only about the alterations communication she provided and veil outcome, which occurred months after purchase. When buying the veil, I was directly told by Taylor that both shortening and appliqué removal at the top were possible in alterations. I made it clear that the ability to remove that top appliqué was the sole reason I moved forward with ordering that specific veil. At the alteration appointment which I attended in-person, the veil was shortened, but the appliqué was still untouched. We marked precisely where it needed to be removed so the design would properly align with my dress. I did not approve leaving it as-is. Because I live out of town, my mother later picked up the veil on my behalf. Only at that time, days before my wedding at final pick up, were we told the top appliqué removal could not be done at all, even though it had already been discussed many times. At that pickup moment, I did not threaten a bad review. I requested a full refund so I could return the veil entirely, and that request was denied by you because the veil had "already been altered." Again, those alterations were not completed based on what was discussed or marked and, as mentioned in my initial review, I had to settle for a partial discount and a veil I was unhappy with. So my review is warranted. Had I been told upfront that the change wasn't possible, OR had the appliqué been removed where we marked it, I would have: * never purchased the veil, * never requested a refund, * and happily kept and loved what I ordered. Instead, I was left with a veil that: * visibly clashed with the dress due to color contrast at the top, * was not altered as confirmed or marked, * and could not be returned when I asked, despite the incomplete work. Transparency is everything in bridal alterations-- especially for expensive, time-sensitive items with no remake or replacement window. My response is not personal to Taylor's styling work, but clarity matters for future brides reading this. Brides deserve accurate information and accountability on purchases made specifically because of alteration assurances. I stand by my review and this context.
