Started acupuncture with Shannon for the very first time. After years of having migraines every month and neck pain. I have finally found a remedy. I had immediate relieve after every session. I was in Julian for a ladies weekend and as one of our activities we went to Julian Mountain Spa for spa services. Vika is the owner and I was fortunate to have her as my therapist. Vika is professional, compassionate and loves what she is able to do to help her clients. It was truly the best deep pressure massage I have ever had and I have had massages quarterly for many years. Vika diagnosed my muscles and range of motion as she warmed up the muscles. She sees with her hands and she found the areas that were affecting my joint motion and posture. She even got the muscles between my ribs! The pressure she used was perfect and she checked with me during the session to be sure I was doing well. My session was peaceful, relaxing and releasing. I felt taller too! Incidentally, we all did a 6 mile, steep ascent hike a couple of hours prior to our massages and the next morning my feet and low back were not sore like they typically get after steep hikes. My dear friend ML, had a deep pressure massage with Cindy and asked me to post that it was one of the best massages that she has had. ML has massages monthly where she lives. WOW. Where do I even start??? Just...WOW. My bf and I visited Julian for vacation twice and both times we came here for a Couples Massage. I had Vika and he had Cindy. First of all, I've gotten a lot of massages and NONE have even remotely come close to this one. In fact, ever since I got my massage from Vika, nothing else has compared and I find myself constantly comparing every massage I get here in L.A. to the ones I got here from Vika. (And every massage since has been disappointing because nothing compares.) Vika is one of those rare people who isn't just a masseuse-- she's a healer. You can tell in the way she touches you and the way she makes you feel. An ordinary massage may leave you feeling relaxed and loose, but when I leave a massage with her I feel as if my entire body has been cleansed and recharged and I feel like an entirely new person! I feel energized and revitalized, but calm and grounded. I feel happy and optimistic, and my body feels so good like I have nothing that ails me. She knows exactly where all of the pressure points are and what areas to touch (and how) to leave you feeling the best you've ever felt. I also love how she spends the first 10 minutes or so just gently waking up your body and nerves with gentle touch over the blanket (which also gets the endorphins flowing) and as she said "letting your body know that it's okay to be touched." I can be kind of high-strung sometimes and I carry a lot of tension and clench my muscles, and therefore massages can be painful for me at first, so I thought that step was really lovely and it really helped my body and nerves calm down and soften up a bit before the massage. What I get here...It's not just a massage--it's a transcendental experience. It's therapy. It's love and healing. Not just someone rubbing your muscles out. Furthermore, let's talk about her as a person; not only is she an amazing healer, but she has such a nurturing energy and feels like a very old soul. She is so incredibly wise and intuitive, and it felt like she was almost reading my mind. She knew exactly when I needed more pressure, knew exactly when I needed less, and she could always tell if I wasn't breathing well or if I had a blockage somewhere. I could literally feel energy blockages being released that had manifested themselves in my body as tightness/knots/pain/tenderness/ soreness in certain areas. She released all of those, so not only does my body feel great, but my mind and soul feels renewed and amazing too. Her energy is unlike anything I've ever felt before; she is SUCH a beautiful soul. I remember after my first massage we sat down and talked for nearly 45 minutes and she is so insightful, intuitive, and just overall a really special person. Love you, Vika!!! As for Cindy, my boyfriend is a man of few words, but he also states that it is the best massage he's ever gotten, and she is a really sweet, awesome, funny, down-to-earth lady. I love that they include essential oils if you desire, because I know a lot of places charge extra for stuff like that, and I love the overall environment of the place. It was very clean, cozy, and the energy there was very comforting. To be honest I can't say enough great things about Julian Mountain spa and their staff. I could be here all day singing their praises. I'm honestly considering just saying "screw it" to all these other subpar massage places here and just driving the 3 hours down to Julian a few times a year just to come here. Please allow me to retort: *Small space- "The place itself was very small" was not an insult. Only an observation just as I commented that the waiting room was "cute". *Transactions- The issue was not what we were able to see, but what we were able to hear. We were able to hear personal information and dollar amount. This information should be kept private. *Therapists name- My apologies for the mix up. That was my mistake. *Uniform/Name- Perhaps, to avoid any confusion or expectations, a name change should be considered. Julian Holistic Health Practitioners has a nice ring to it. I don't doubt the level of professionalism, it was the massage experience itself that was the main issue. However, impressions are important (especially first impressions) and selecting apparel that is more "professional looking' may go a long way. Uniforms are not a must, but wearing something you could lounge around the house in doesn't exactly scream "I represent Julian Mountain SPA" either. I have seen Bohemian style/Boho-chic tops that are fabulous. It doesn't take much. Just the right selection to look professional. *Bare feet- "We take our shoes off after entering the spa to ensure the space is clean." Stephen was barefoot the entire time; from the time we entered the facility, into the massage room and afterwards for payment. I'm happy to hear that you are discussing the matter and am confident you will find a solution. *Couples massage room décor- "Basic" was a description of the room, not a complaint. *Experience- You are absolutely correct. Under normal circumstances I would have voiced my concerns and/or discomfort. But as I mentioned, I did not want my friend to feel bad or feel as though she wasted her money. I seriously doubt saying "Owww, you're digging your fingertips into my flesh and hurting me. Oh, and by the way, you have a nasty hangnail that keeps scratching me. Could you please trim it?" would've gone over well with anyone present in the room. *Wiping feet and Mats- That is excellent news. As a business owner I'm sure a little effort on your part to ensure that accidental slips will be avoided gives you a piece of mind as well as keeping customers safe and injury free. Derek was my therapist and he gifted me with one of the best massages I've ever gotten. He took time to discuss my muscles, joints, and areas of concern with me and listened very thoughtfully. His approach to the massage was nurturing and healing. Throughout the massage he was able to identify exactly what my body needed--even outside of things we'd talked about. For Valentine's day, my husband scheduled a couple's massage with Julian Mountain Spa. We have had many massages over the years and this was by far the best experience we have had. Vika was my husband's therapist and she worked out this massive knot in his neck that has been bothering him for some time. Other therapists were unable to make any progress on it but Vika was perfect. Laurie was my therapist and unlike every other therapist I have had, she listened to me, applying the right amount of pressure and always checking in with me to ensure I was getting the experience I wanted. I had a 9:00am massage with Vika on Mother's Day. My husband likes to surprise me with things like this, which is just so very lovely. I am a lucky woman. Being a total Type A personality, it is hard for me sometimes to appreciate the gift of a thoughtful surprise because I am too preoccupied with having to control the whole situation! Vika, who I've never met, could not have known what I was all about when I first met her, but she easily dealt with my initial grumpiness and helped me relax almost immediately. I was greeted with a very warm welcome and smile and shown back to the massage room. The inside of the Spa is clean and so quaint and nicely decorated- not like so many generic spas where everything is white and clinical looking. I felt extremely comfortable in the space. Vika asked me several questions before the massage to get an idea as to what I like- pressure strength, if I have pain/injuries, etc. She was thorough. Then I got up on the heated table and she got to work. Her massage technique was spot on. I like how she eased in to helping me get relaxed by massaging gently over the blanket at first. She concentrated on the areas that really needed work, and I liked that she moved my limbs around to assist in loosening up tight muscles. I have had many massages, and this was definitely one of the best, not only because her technique was excellent, but because her personality was so calming and warm. She is a real giver, and as others have mentioned, healing seems to be a part of her being. I felt completely at ease in her care and was totally refreshed after, feeling like a lot of stress I didn't realize I was holding onto was gone.
