My goodness, Quiet Mind Mountain Retreat is a beautiful place. Overlooking Lake Cuyamaca, it is truly serene. We had a wonderful room overlooking the lake, and waking up to the view was something else. The complimentary breakfast is simple but there to fuel you for the day: oatmeal, eggs, fruit, muffins, yoghurt, etc. They also have other options, such as avocado toast, you can order (not complimentary) if you wish. The staff at Quiet Mind are friendly and helpful. Even before our stay, they reached out to see if there was anything we needed. All the staff we met were knowledgeable and kind. They offer a plethora of different wellness services: yoga, meditation, massages, and more! It is a wonderful place to unwind. The piece de resistance--in my opinion--was the hot tub overlooking the lake. We were there the first few days of the Perseid meteor showers. The first evening was cloudy, but the second night we got lucky! While the meteor show was not at it's peak, it was truly MAGICAL seeing a few meteors streak across the sky with the milky way visible behind it... all while soaking in the hot tub. I can only imagine what it will look like in a few weeks. My only wish is that there was a wall or something blocking the light from the hotel from behind, so you could see the stars better. Within minutes, I was in a deep state of relaxation, and the pain relief I felt was incredible. Next, the food. Amazing. Everything was fresh, homemade, and nourishing. Such a relaxing place and warm and welcoming staff. My friend and I felt right at home. She got a massage, which was one of the best she's had. The bed was comfy and I was able to charge my car. Quiet Mind was amazing on a number of levels in my recent stay with my wife for 3 nights. The grounds and resort itself have a great vibe set with traditional decoration around the whole place and a wonderful garden out front over looking the lake. I've lived in San Diego for 15 years and never visited the area other than going to Julian. I cannot recommend enough to everyone to stay here instead of the touristy Julian town itself. Julian is great but if you're looking to really disconnect from reality and reconnect with yourself/partner/etc, this is the place. The yoga, energy sessions, and massages were all wonderful. We spent over $1,800 on a two-night stay at Quiet Minds Retreat, and what followed was one of the most unprofessional and disturbing experiences we've ever had. The retreat failed to deliver on what was advertised, including "gourmet meals," which were far below that standard. The situation escalated when staff members identified to us as Sarah and Adam accused us of being intoxicated and "threatening"--claims that are completely untrue and were never substantiated. In reality, we were attempting to address concerns about the quality of services from the start of our stay. We were also told that Sarah was the only manager on-site. However, subsequent information indicates discrepancies in how management roles are represented, raising further concerns about transparency and accountability. We were then removed from the property with a sheriff present, despite no legitimate cause. Being publicly accused of that kind of behavior and escorted off the property was humiliating and unacceptable. To make matters worse, after being removed, we were still charged an additional $200 for a service that was never provided. What is especially concerning is that prior to this escalation, the retreat acknowledged issues and attempted to "make up for the errors" in writing--yet now refuses to take meaningful accountability. The handling of the situation, including dismissive and unprofessional behavior we experienced, only added to the distress of the situation. As a couple, including my Hispanic husband who is a 10-year Marine Corps veteran, this experience raises serious concerns about how we were treated and why. The overall handling of this situation felt targeted, unjustified, and deeply unprofessional. Since the incident, communication has been cut off, making it nearly impossible to resolve the matter or obtain basic answers. We paid for a peaceful, high-quality experience and instead were met with false accusations, removal under law enforcement, additional improper charges, and zero accountability. Public records also indicate that a business entity associated with this retreat has been listed as suspended and dissolved in California, raising additional concerns about compliance, transparency, and lawful operation. At this point, we are pursuing formal action based on potential violations of California consumer protection laws, including failure to provide contracted services, misrepresentation, and improper removal of paying guests. All documentation--including written communication acknowledging issues--has been retained. We strongly urge others to think carefully before booking. I'll be back to reinforce what I learned and reconnect with Lorien and all the special people who helped me. I stumbled upon the Quiet Mind Retreat looking for something different and urgently needed to reset from several years of burnout and a lifetime of anxiety. I knew I needed something more serious than a Coachella / Stagecoach double-header but less intense than residential therapy - a full two weeks to focus on my wellness. I can say with confidence that the Quiet Mind Retreat gave me all the tools, knowledge and confidence to return back to my old life with a new and more present perspective. Adam was my first contact and gave me an overview of what the retreat could offer. I asked for a combination of a detoxifying the anxiety for the first week, then focusing on what I could bring back home. From a pricing perspective, I had 3 sessions every day, room plus food. While QMR was an investment in my mental health, it was also a great value compared to several other SoCal offerings. Adam was so approachable and gave me the confidence to book. I very much enjoyed a structured 1:1 session with him. Lorien was my program coordinator and created a structured daily schedule of yoga, meditation / breath work and massage therapy. I had no idea of what I was getting into and decided to go into every session open minded but skeptical. I'll be the first to admit that I am not spiritual and loved that everything that was presented to me with breath work was explained with scientific reasoning. I cannot say enough amazing things about Lorien - she absolutely nailed my itinerary, matched me with wonderful people and I know she did so much behind the scenes that I'm not even aware of. I could tell and appreciate how she took her time before each session to let the person know how this could be tailored to me. I also love that she was very intuitive with what I needed - if I wanted to talk, she was there. Since I came in overwhelmed, it was nice coming into a new space without having to give a personal background. The wide range of holistic and somatic therapy she brought (magazines to cut, twine to make boundaries, somatic exercises...) were so well thought out. I worked with 9 different practitioners and therapists over 38 sessions. I like that there were 4 core people that I worked with, which brought familiarity and comfort, but also got perspective from a number of different people to see what worked for me. Liz was my wake up yoga call. Her energy was electric and helped me craft my perfect morning routine. Angie was my lovely bird and outdoor guide who taught me to slow down and enjoy the how fulfilling the small things can be. Her perspective and presence is like being around someone I've known forever. Denise was my breath work goddess. Not only is she so calming (not boring as she claims), she makes meditation and breath work enjoyable and approachable. While I did opt for the all inclusive menu, I did not realize it was vegetarian and vegan only until the day before. I do love veggies. But I also love chicken nuggets. Kyle, Alex, Cesar and all the chefs were AMAZING!! The food was phenomenal, with favorites being the lemone pasta, both veggie burgers and whole cauliflower. I only ate two meals offsite in the entire 14 days. The hotel is very well kept thanks to Sara. I loved my room with a steam shower and jet tub (the Calm Suite). She kept everything running seamlessly and was such a nice presence to see every day. I'm pretty sure she answered the phone the first time I called. I thought she was AI and I hung up on her. I'M SO SORRY SARA! I went into the Quiet Mind Retreat with an open mind, knowing that what I was doing now wasn't working but also not knowing what I needed next. I tried everything. Ultimately I found a place that didn't give me all the answers (that would be absurd), but gave me the inspiration and tools to actually enjoy the life I worked so hard to create for myself. I will be back at least once a year to re-solidify what I learned. If you're burnt out but ready to do things differently, Quiet Mind Retreat is your place. Man oh man, where do I begin? I can imagine what this establishment is trying to achieve but they're sorely missing the mark. My bad experience started before I even stepped foot onto this property. I tried reaching out via email 3 different times to tell them I'm coming here for my birthday and would really appreciate if they could make it special and provide any guidance on the property. All these emails were met with radio silence. A week before my check-in date I was sent an email to pre-book spa services. I decided to text the number they said to text and I finally got a response. They told me to call them about my room and they said there is a plumbing issue in one of my rooms and they needed to move me. Fine, right? Wrong. I reserved 2 lake view rooms and they only provided me one. They conveniently left out this key part until we checked in and went to our rooms. I was greeted with a vase of flowers and hand written sign saying happy birthday which was nice. We saw right away that would our mini fridge was leaking onto the floor and in the fridge itself. We texted them to please check this out and we would like to use our sauna credit they had given us to use for the room switch-up. We asked when we could get a session in at 5:45 and at 5:58 they said they can get us in at 6PM. We hurriedly got ready and stopped by the empty and eerie spa. No one was around. The front desk lady arrived and turned on our sauna right then... The halotherapy was just a couple salt diffusers and lamps on a table you could buy off Amazon. There was a dead mosquito in one on the salt lamp lights... The sauna was only 98 degrees when we got in and clearly has never been cleaned since there were sweat marks all over it and the towels were small and raggedy. The door in the sauna room had NO LOCK creating an uncomfortable environment. There was no TV or music in the room, just silence. When we got back to our room, we saw the puddle from the fridge AGAIN - this time, larger. We got our appetizers at 7:30 and asked for our dinner to be delivered in the common room so they could fix the fridge while we ate. When we went into the common room, I saw the biggest spider I've ever seen just chillin on the wall. We were told our entrees would be delivered in 30 mins but it took them 1 HOUR. They didn't keep us updated at all. When I finally got the food, it was not worth the wait and there was a BLOND HAIR in my food... GAHHH. They really can't do anything right here. The rooms are outdated and dilapidated. The bathroom paint is peeling, a screw fell out of one of the chairs while sitting on it, the walls are paper thin, there's no door chain on the doors allowing easy break-ins, you can see through to the hallway from the room, the vents are rusty and the ceiling fan hasn't been dusted in decades. I could see a thick layer of dust on it from the bed. I'm glad I brought a white noise machine and eye mask to sleep. I wouldn't be able to sleep if I hadn't brought these essentials... The outdoor furniture is sad and dirty. Many more employees need to be hired to upkeep this place- it's just sad looking! There's even a hole in the roof in one part... We stayed here for 1 night to celebrate a birthday and notified the retreat ahead of time. We were contacted about a week prior to our arrival saying there was a plumbing issue so we were being moved to different rooms upstairs. We had booked 2 lake view rooms, but only 1 room had a view.. very disappointing given it's not what we paid for, but they offered to give each of the 4 of us a $45 spa credit so had no choice but to make the best of it. When we got to our room, we noticed some stains on the comforter and robes, and a large puddle was forming outside of our mini fridge so we let the staff know and they said they'd come fix it while we were at our sauna/salt therapy session (which both sucked). For starters, the door would not lock which was very uncomfortable for undressing and something I've never experienced at a sauna - a locking door is standard. The "salt therapy" was a joke and very cheaply put together in a small area outside of the small sauna. The staff texted us claiming they fixed our leaking mini fridge, but we returned to another large puddle. When we opened the fridge, there was even more water inside all over everything, including a leftover takeout box I had put in there from a restaurant we'd gone to. Unfortunately, I had to throw the leftovers away since it was drenched in water. We informed the staff that the fridge was still broken and actively leaking, and they said they would fix it while we ate our dinner in the common area. We were texted saying our dinner would be delivered to us in 30 minutes.. an hour later we texted asking for an update and they said they would bring it out shortly. Very bizarre to set expectations and not meet them or inform the guests of the delay when it took twice the amount of time they told us it would take. Our food did not arrive until 8:30pm which was a very late dinner for us. We tried to give them the benefit of the doubt despite all these hiccups we faced within just a few hours of checking in, but it was just one problem after another. We were told we had to place our dinner order days in advance (because the food is supposed to be fresh and locally sourced I think?) so we did. To put it simply, THE FOOD SUCKED. Nothing tasted fresh or healthy. The club sandwich I ordered was flavorless with very little inside. It was mostly bread and the bread was like store bought white wonder bread. DISGUSTING! Absolutely absurd to charge over $20 for that crap. The birthday girl ordered the curry and she said it was bland and nothing special given how expensive it was AND THERE WAS A HAIR IN HER BOWL. I also ordered a green juice which tasted insanely sweet! What the heck! It also wasn't green.. it was a darker grey color. The dinner was horrible and none of us liked it, though it was supposedly gourmet. After another disappointing experience, we returned to our room where a towel had been placed beside the mini fridge. What a day.. Now for the sleeping part of this mess... AWFUL!!! The walls are INCREDIBLY thin, and you could hear people talking and walking down the entire hallway. The wooden floors made it extra loud and scary when waking up to loud stomps in the very late night and early morning hours. The AC unit in the room made it hard to sleep due to the extremely bright LED light shining from it indicating the temperature. THE WORST PART was that there was no locking mechanism on our door like any standard hotel/motel would have! We had to slide our nightstand in front of the door just to have some peace of mind while we slept. Our friends in the other room we booked complained about the very same things. The next morning, we experienced another joke of a meal which was the continental breakfast. Eggs were advertised in the breakfast, yet there were no eggs in sight, just yogurt, store bought stale croissants and english muffins and literally the smallest amount of butter, cream cheese, and jam. I WAS SHOCKED BY THE POOR PRESENTATION. We got there right when breakfast began and couldn't believe how little they put out for everyone. The orange juice was store bought as well - I saw the empty carton of a very low quality brand in the trash. We took our pathetic looking breakfast back to our room to enjoy with our lake view (the ONLY good thing about this place). When we returned, we saw our door was opened and left ajar... we definitely closed it so this was extremely concerning. No one was inside our room, but someone definitely was before we got there! SUPER UNCOMFORTABLE AND UNPROFESSIONAL! When we sat down to have our mediocre food, a very large screw had fallen out of my chair. It was laughable at that point how bad this "retreat" was. For this HORRIBLE stay, they compensated our disgusting dinner, but our entire stay should have been comped because it was the birthday from hell. We were originally going to stay somewhere else but it was booked for a private event that weekend. Otherwise, we wouldn't have stayed here. WE WILL NEVER RETURN! read more

Overall the view is stunning and amenities that they offer (in theory) are nice. Everyone was pleasant, but unfortunately the pleasantry did not make up for issues. I booked a 2 night stay in the "Peaceful Lake" room at $250/night with a massage $145 and sauna $45. Room: was not clean and felt unsanitary, I couldn't fully relax. -Bed backboard had an excessive amount of fingerprints and some sort of splatter. I ended up sleeping towards the foot of the bed instead. -Robes provided in the room had hair in it, so I didn't bother touching it. -I understand it's near nature but there was an excessive amount of spiders and ants throughout the room. While drifting off to sleep around 1am, two large spiders were above my head on the ceiling so I stayed awake till 3am when they finally moved across the room. I couldn't set food or drinks down on any table without ants getting in it. -Main room door had excessive dirty fingerprints. -Fridge had a thick layer of dust/grime/prints. -Bedroom table had a pile of unknown white crumbs. -Shower smelled musty like mold. -Porch seating was broken or coming apart. Definitely a safety hazard. -With all that, you start thinking about how the shower carpet has probably never been cleaned, how maybe the sheets have not been changed out (especially that there were stains), and all the ways you're about to get sick. Amenities: I pre-booked a halotherapy sauna and chakra massage. I also tried to order breakfast on my last day (which was my birthday). -Halotherapy is where they turn on a couple salt rock lamps in front of the infrared room, it was not worth the cost. Also, they charged me $45, when online it was $40 and $35 pre booked. When pre-booking over the phone, they didn't explain why it was $45, when I asked Sarah on site, she tried to explain but thankfully she agreed to remove the charge. -Chakra massage did not use any crystals at all. Amy was very lovely though and utilized other massage methods. The table and setup was pretty uncomfortable, not her fault. -Breakfast ordered was described as runny eggs, crispy potatoes and fresh avocado. The eggs were overdone, potatoes soggy and the avocado was brown. I notified them, they said they'd fix it... when the woman came, it was a small plate of just more brown avocado. Apparently they misunderstood. By that time I just wanted to leave, so I gave them back everything. There were only 3 items and 2 things to actually cook, I'm not paying $25+20% service fee for that. The chai latte was good and they didn't charge me for it which I appreciated! Booking: I tried to reach out through their phone number provided and email portal, with no response. I finally had to email their INFO address to get a hold of someone. Sadly my birthday stay was very disappointing. If the room was actually clean, I would consider returning for the view alone. After a death in the family , falls and illness -this retreat was what the body and mind needed. Our room was cozy, the bed was super comfy with quality and soft bedding, The Robes are above luxury. Our patio had the view of the lake described. My man luxuriated in the sauna shower. The jetted tub had my name all over it. Sarah, Lorien, Heather, Adam and Tracy were gracious, calming and very attentive. The chef is talented ( try his salsa) Food portions are HUGE so you really dont need 3 meals. Since it was our anniversary I got the romance package and movie night. Both are outrageously over priced but for one time it was fun. The no phones in communal area was a wonderful touch.No unwanted conversations, arguments or loud voices! We will definitely be back. Im looking for an alone stay with myself to paint and journal. PLeASE check the weather before to make reservations!! This is my first time in California I booked stay from Tuesday afternoon until Saturday and was snowed in the entire time. And when it wasn't blizzard-like weather with high winds, it was torrential rainfalls. The only time I got fresh air was when I had to open my patio door because my neighbor was smoking (in a non-smoking Hotel). The staff is calm & kind. The food is vegetarian Only. The masseuse Eva was really great. I'm really sad that I didn't get to experience the hotel like I wanted to, Especially for my first trip to California. I only wish the staff engaged more with patrons or made more of an effort to accommodate visitors in this situation, Before it starts to feeling like Cabin Fever. Thank you CAROL!!! Spent my last night arc the quiet mind mountain retreat. Left the windows open so I could hear all of the nature that seems to find a home in the Rosegarden or the birdbath. I needed these days with no. outside interference. I couldn't figure out how to work the TV so I just left it off spent my time, just being silent and enjoying watching the lake. Caught up on some my readings that I would had wanted to do. Was sad to leave this morning. The staff are fantastic.. The smiles and calm voice stoat just resonates in your body. Will definitely be back when I feel that I need a couple of days just to unwind and forget about it all. The rooms are very quirky so if you're used to a Marriott or Hyatt, or any other chain kind of hotel, quiet mind will be a little different for you. The bed was super comfy, The shower was a great experience with the steam and rain forest showerhead. I will definitely come back either with a friend or just by myself. read more

My mom and I came to Quiet Mind over the last week for a mother-daughter getaway. We came with very little expectations and were totally blown away! Before we even arrived, we had wonderful concierge service from Sarah, who worked with us to plan our meals, massages, and coordinate other requests we had for our stay such as an extra bed in our room. She was there to check us in and show us around when we arrived and was incredibly sweet and attentive throughout our stay! Our package was all inclusive and included massages each of the days we were there, 3 meals a day, private yoga, a wellness consultation, and many other wonderful amenities, such as a sauna and hot tub. We loved our room (with AC which was amazing since we stayed in August) and conveniently had a mini fridge, microwave, TV, table for eating etc, coffee machine and kettle, and a jet tub. Perhaps our favorite part of the stay was sitting out on the covered terrace off of the main building and looking out onto the beautiful lake/mountain view. We even asked if we could have some of our meals served to us there which they accommodated graciously. All in all our stay was extremely relaxing, the food was delicious (and abundant), and the services we received from massages to yoga were delightful. It was also only about an hour and 15 minutes from San Diego which was perfect. We will definitely be coming back! read more

My room was clean and comfortable, and the views around the property are beautiful--great for just slowing down and being present. Staff were friendly and helpful without hovering. I came to Quiet Mind Retreat for the Serene Stress Relief Retreat. Everything about this place radiates peace, from the view of the lake at sunrise to the way every staff member seems genuinely invested in your well-being. Each day was beautifully balanced with yoga, meditation and amazing massages. The therapists are intuitive so the sessions felt personalized rather than routine. The meals were healthy and tasty. This is a place where one can breathe, relax and reconnect. I came for stress relief but found something much deeper, a sense of renewal. Stayed here in the biggest suite on the property , the Royal Mandala Suite! What an amazing sweet birthday surprise from my boyfriend! The room was extremely large like a small apartment and the spa jacuzzi hot tub which was inside our room, that was hands down the BEST and hhhhzbiggest spa tub I have ever se pi bğIf you want to go to a place to relax and wind down, this is the place for you! If you want to experience a steam room, I highly recommend it!! You will feel sooo refreshed and rejuvenated!!! Thank you Lorian for making today my bestest birthday yet! And they also have a continental breakfast and a beautiful kitchen !! The gym is also nice as well! Stayed at the Quiet Mind Mountain Retreat overnight for my 39th birthday and absolutely loved it. I've visited here during day trips to Julian a couple times in the past but this was my first time staying here. The location near Lake Cuyamaca is gorgeous. Adam and Sarah were very friendly and accommodating. My only complaint is that the hot tub was cold and I didn't get to use it, but it was because of the windy weather knocking over the cover and not properly heating. They let me use the spa instead to make up for it. Will definitely stay here again in the future and hopefully get to do some meditation classes and stay a little longer! read more

I stumbled upon this place while looking for a hotel with a spa that wouldn't break the bank. Quiet Mind exceeded my expectations. Adam texted me the morning of my arrival to let me know all the specifics, which was appreciated. Upon arrival, check-in was a breeze and I made my way to my room- the Radiant Suite. The property is small and unique... made me feel as if I was staying at a friend's lakehouse instead of a fancy, impersonal hotel. I had pre-booked a massage with Jennifer and she was fantastic. She took my concerns seriously. Aside from a great massage, we had fun, effortless conversation that resulted in me crying because I was laughing so much. I ordered room service the first night. Although it took longer than expected, it was delicious. The next morning, I enjoyed their continental breakfast which is set up in the kitchen. (*wait, did she just say kitchen?*) Yes. There is a large house kitchen in the middle of the lodge. Maybe that turns some people off, but to me it felt like home, which was so nice. Nothing fancy but the coffee is hot and there were plenty of options. I'm not a breakfast person, tho. When I got back from the day's adventures, I napped in peace. Later I grabbed some hot tea and explored the property. They have a game room with a pool table, peaceful buddha garden, relaxing hot tub that overlooks the lake (I was the only one in it, SCORE!), and a nice library... which I probably would have taken advantage of if I hadn't met a lovely couple (that was also exploring) and had a lovely 2 hour conversation with! Essentially, I greatly enjoyed my time here. It offered exactly what I was hoping for and I would definitely stay again. After reading previous reviews, it seems as though people were expecting more of a cookie-cutter large hotel chain feel. This isn't that. Quiet Mind reminds me more of a chill AirBnB with an onsite massage therapist and chef. The property has character and the staff are great! If I absolutely had to nit-pick, here's what I would say: - I wish they had locks on their room doors. As a woman traveling solo, it would offer peace of mind. - I wish their showers had better water pressure, but I had hot water so I can't complain. - Room service meal was smaller portion than I would like. I desperately needed a break in March and found this little hideaway in Julian. Who knew?! I spent 3 nights here and experienced 7 different services. I chose my meals ahead of time and they were delivered to my room very timely. The food was delicious and the breakfast spread in the communal dining room every morning was wonderful. If I had to pick my two favorite wellness services they would be the Shirodhara Treatment and the foot reflexology treatment. Absolutely relaxing! Lorien, Adam & Eric were lovely hosts. My view of the lake was so pretty. I'm definitely coming back! read more

There were many positives and one negative about this retreat. Overall, we LOVED our stay at the Quiet Mind Mountain Retreat. Our room had a beautiful view of the lake. The décor is an eclectic mix of Asian & Buddhist themes which were very calming. And while another reviewer complained about the "odd" layout, we loved exploring the meandering hallways, which led to unexpected rooms and delightful surprises. Who knew they had a pool table at the far end of the building? There were lots of nooks to have a private moment with your partner. The retreat's décor was prominently featured in my Instagram post about our trip. Now for the negative: Two weeks after our stay, I saw an extra $41 charge from Quiet Mind on my credit card bill. I enquired about this charge and was told it was for items we took from the in-room snack bar. This was upsetting to hear because we DID NOT take anything from the snack bar. In fact, we had an ice chest full of food and drinks left over from our picnic earlier that day. We moved the ice chest into our room and ate our leftover cheese, crackers, nuts & pastries for dinner, along with a small bottle of Champagne we had brought. I asked the retreat to remove the $41 charge and they did so that same day. But still, it never should have happened. Having BOGUS charges show up on your credit card can quickly ruin a good memory. Despite that mishap, we still recommend this lodge, which has a beautiful setting and is unique. We also recommend you pay extra for a room with the lake view, which is totally worth it. Just watch your credit card bill for errant charges from this establishment. read more
