My husband and I love little private owned restaurants. They usually have the best food. This place did not disappoint us at all. The service was nice the food was amazing. I can't even tell you what I liked most. The fried chicken was better than I have ever had it and I can still taste those fried green tomatoes. The service was friendly and they seemed to stay pretty busy. When I first walked in and looked around I was thinking uh-oh we made a mistake. The furniture is mis matched and the buffet looked small. What they lacked in decor and size they made up for in taste. I can't rave about the food enough. Stopped in here for lunch while driving to Florida. The Buffett was outta control man. Julia goes hard in the paint! Meatloaf, mash, okra, green beens, and macaroni were all fantastic. I did not realize that it was ONLY a buffet. My mistake. We almost left to find somewhere else, but that would have meant a Waffle House. We decided to stay. The food was decent. They looked good, but were very hard, & just not pleasant to eat. I would not have chosen to eat here. This is the absolute worst place I've ate at while in the south. I love southern cooking but wow! Everything was hard/burned/overcooked. There was no seasoning whatsoever. It's all you can eat. My husband and I had 1 plate of food each (which neither of us could finish) & our son had 2 plates but he must have been hungry because even he said McDonald's would've tasted better. Would give zero stars if I could. Husband said the fried catfish and mashed potatoes/gravy were good. I tried the grilled chicken tenders which were seasoned horribly and way too salty. Between us we had turnip greens, green beans and yellow squash. Those 3 vegetables were also terrible and again, way too salty. They were literally not fit to eat. The "corn bread" was a flat disk of hard corn meal. Awful! We will never be back and would warn anyone away from the food. That said, the staff was very friendly. read more

I don't expect much from buffets because they usually have a large variety of nontantilizing food. Considering the restaurant is a buffet the food was pretty good. Spare ribs, fried and BBQ chicken, and fish. Not too many items on the buffet which to me is a plus (they focus on a few items and put more effort into the quality of the food). This was a good visit. We arrived at this location around 12:30 pm. It was very, very crowded on this Mother's Day. Although it was crowded the line kept moving. Wonderful host Megan greeted us with a smile and inviting conversations. The buffet stations popping steam and the aroma of fresh cooked food was was like come on in, sit down and have some. Very quaint place. The staff: very attentive even with the crowd. The food, I tried a sample of everything. Salad to the dessert the food was delicious from start to finish. My server was Shauna and she was fabulous! I would have given it 5 stars. But a non smiling server picked a towel off the floor and placed it on the beverage counter. She then walked to the back. Long story short, what a hidden gem this place is. Hands down the best bacon and sweet tea I have ever had the pleasure of diving into. They also had deep fried bacon, but I didn't venture into that. This is the second time we have stopped here on our way to Panama City. The buffet & salad bar is delicious. Lots to choose from & the homemade peach cobbler and banana pudding with ice cream was great. 23.96 for 2 and that includes drinks. Some of the best sweet tea I've ever had too. Stopped here while passing through on the way to Florida. The food was very hot (but not too hot) and the buffet was always stocked! I had the pulled pork, crab salad, green beans, mac n cheese, rice, a dinner roll, and a sweet potato. Everything was delicious. The pork was sweet and I enjoyed it best with my soft, warm dinner roll. The rice was flavorful. The crab salad was yummy as well, though it could've been a little bit creamier. Mac n cheese tasted home made, so that's a win! The sweet potato was a little under cooked. The green beans were buttery and delicious. I also tried a piece of my mom's fried catfish and it wasn't dry, unlike most other places. The service is nice. From appearance standpoint, the place was well-kept but in all honesty the floor could've been vacuumed. They had about six options for desert, including ice cream. I have to say I'm thoroughly disappointed with my experience at Julia's. To start, the food was sub par. The pasta tasted rancid and the Blueberry cobbler looked like a paste. To top off my experience, I go to pay for the "buffet" and the person behind the counter rolled her eyes at me for using a debit card. She swiped my card and I entered my pin but it doesn't go through. She then huffs and tells me that "maybe I should enter my pin in correctly next time." I held my tongue but I know I didn't enter the wrong code. And even if I did, she should have asked to run the card again in a professional manner. I enter it a second time and she said "see, it helps to know what your doing." For a $12 meal, I'm sad to say my experience was nothing short of unsatisfactory. I was not impressed with the food but I could have left in a fair mood had it not been for the unnecessary rudeness of the cashier. I understand that everyone has their bad days but customer service is the job you sign up for in the food industry. I will not return to this establishment again. If I could give it a 0 star I would. I hope others will have a better experience than me but I have such a sour taste in my mouth from all of it that I won't be giving them a second chance. read more

Stopped eating here couple years ago after terrible food and unfriendly staff. Came back (we live in Pike County) in October with 3 relatives who insisted on it because they last ate here a few years ago too, and wanted a lunch buffet and were willing to try Julia's again. So, we decided to do the lunch buffet.The salad bar: lettuce was all brown and some of the side items had who-knows-what in them. I ate nothing but vegetables-or tried to anyway. Their pears with mayo and a cherry on them was disgusting-the pears were like trying to gnaw on a rock-extremely hard. My aunt had 2 long hairs hidden in her food and almost tossed her cookies after finding them. She let a waitress know (after failing to get anyone to stop 2 seconds)-the waitress took her plate away and never said a word. My aunt decides to go get another plate of something different from the first mistake and it too had a long hair (same individual?) in the food! My uncle's plate had a piece of old food stuck to it from a previous century. Then a large church group came (saw their vans) and as they were all lined up to hit the buffet, saw 2 of them show the others their silverware-had old food stuck to it! This was our 2nd time here for a weekend dinner, and Julia's didn't disappoint. We love the whole fried catfish, grits, and fried shrimp - they were fresh and cooked just right. The steaks were a perfect medium rare and were well-seasoned. Blueberry and peach cobblers really hit the spot at the end, though I was so full I could only manage a bite of each.
