Been here several years & Dr Tonnu was always exceptionally Knowledgeable, Attentive, Professional & very Pleasant . Despite being very busy, she has always been very thorough. She diagnosed signs of early Potential Macular Degeneration & referred me to a Retina Specialist . I was due for for an eye exam and was referred by a friend to go see Dr. Tonnu. I've had many eye exams before where I was rushed through the exam itself. To the contrary, Dr. Tonnu took her time and was very attentive to get my prescription right, she even let me try on what my new glasses will look like, which was a first for me. Tried to charge me for a follow up after she screwed up my prescription in the first place. It took me months to get the eyewear issue fixed and they finally blamed on bad exam info. Then, she tried to blame the patient for giving me a bad prescription?! WTF. Worst optometrist I have seen. She took her time but the prescription was very different from the one I had 12 months ago at a local private eye doctor. I was surprised that things had changed so much but trusted Dr. Tonnu. Anyhow I got my glasses in the prescription she gave me and they are HORRIBLE! I can't even put them on. They are so different from my current lenses. I get nauseated and have horrible visuals for hours after just putting her prescription on briefly! What a waste of time and money. This lady is rude. When I entered her area, she was yelling at the lady working in the front. The lady in the front was so rattled, that when she started the initial eye exam, she banged my head into the equipment. At that point I began to be angry. The optometrist was in the front office, and she was angry too. I told her I was done with them, and that I will find another optometrist. That's what I did. I went to the optometrist at Costco on Heather Ridge, just off Oso / Pacific Park. They were very busy, but organized and happy. The optometrist there was wonderful! read more

Not all optometrist are created equal. Dr Tonnu cought my retina detachment before any symptoms appeared. Every time I go in she's incredibly thorough with my prescription. Extremely knowledgeable. This isn't your typical mall optometrist. She really goes above and beyond. Plus, I mean there's Costco here! So get your eyes checked and buy your supply of laundry detergent at the same time. Our office is clean, her staff is friendly, and she does book out while in advance as she's in demand. She's my optometrist for life! read more

Let me first say I am a good cash paying patient and this is what I got yesterday for $ 190.00 cash. I needed a good follow up exam for glasses and contacts as my vision has gotten so bad this year it is concerning. I dont know if I got a good exam or not because after waiting 30 minutes while she chatted with a few random walk in's I saw her for about 10 minutes. After the ten minutes she asked me to step outside and put my contacts in - which took about 60 seconds. In that time she ushered in her next patient which actually shocked me. After waiting for another 20 minutes I had to leave and get back to work. While I was waiting the second time the front desk lady said this was a slow day .. so there was no need to take anotgher patient instead of giving me another 5 minutes to finish my exam. In addition, since they were "slow" the front desk person started booking walk ins, Because she was then busy checking in walk ins I couldnt even get my prescription printed out nor could I get the results of the exam. After pushing my way through the walk ins I was told they could e mail me the rx. After again working through the shock I finally got a written prescription. I rarely get offended or complain but I really could not believe the way I was treated. Anyone know a Optomotrist t that treats their patients like humans ? read more

I was charged for a contacts exam I didn't ask for when the Doctor simply started talking about contacts during an appointment that was supposed to just be about a new glasses prescription. Following up, calling, and using the online contact form, the office staff simply acknowledges your message and then ignores it. I love Costco, but this service is the worst. When I got there for my appointment there was a person being evaluated and one waiting. I was told that they were behind, even though they open at 10am and my appt was for 10:40am. The receptionist said they schedule every 20 minutes but that exams take a half hour or more. So they build in a delay. After my complaining about this, the doctor came out and arrogantly offered to reschedule me. I declined, but after waiting there for 30 minutes I was told they could not find my insurance. I will never go to Costco for eyeglasses again. read more

Located inside the San Juan Capistrano Costco is Dr. Tonnu's office. It was my first visit with her (to update my reading glass prescription). She was thorough, friendly and detailed. Her staff was nice as well. The door says they take walk-ins but I would definitely make an appointment if you don't want to wait. I called on Wednesday and was able to get an appointment at my preferred time just 2 days later. Eye exams are $59 and a glaucoma dilated or non-dilated picture is an extra charge (I think it was $25). read more

I've been using Costco optometrists for years. This is the worst one. Dr. Tonnu suggested I try a new lenses for my vision which I was open to. She said the trials may take up to 3 weeks to get. That was 11 weeks ago, yes 11. I've emailed, gone in 3 times - once waited for 45 minutes for the receptionist to ask the doctor about it-spoke to Dr. Tonnu personally twice and was told "they'd look into the delay". I doubt they have. They've never called. This place is a joke. read more

This practice deserves a HUGE NEGATIVE ZERO. I am still having problems with my prescription. I had to go back a second time to try to get it fixed but instead I got lectured about my frames! She was unbelievably rude to me. I will never go back to her again. I work in the medical field & explained to her clearly how important it is for my glasses because I as well work with patients. My concerns & needing to adjust my prescription completely fell on def ears! I pay you for your service Dr. Tonnu not your crappy & unprofessional attitude & demeanor!!! I am going to have to follow up with a different doctor for a third time, hopefully that will listen to what I'm telling them & what problems I'm having with my prescription. I truly believe this could have been corrected the right way but instead Dr. Tonnu chose to be argumentative with me during my visit. Today was my first visit with Dr. Tonnu and she was so gracious and kind. I felt very comfortable. She explained everything thing very well. I would highly recommend her. The office was very busy and she ran a little behind but that is to be expected when you have an appointment at the end of the day. When you work m-f 8-5 it is always great to find a place with extended hours. Thank you Dr. Tonnu I will definitely see you next year. My eyes are changing (with age) every year so I was pleased to see my pictures of my eyeballs and no degeneration, cataracts. She was very informative and kind. Not a good experience. Dr. Likes to shame patients. The system in her office doesn't automatically speak to the Costco optical system. And her system was down when I tried to get my prescription. I'm 60 and have never had an eye exam in my life. Julie and her staff were very friendly, very kind and very professional. I had the exam and also did the dilation to make sure everything was looking good inside the eyeballs. Most people look at frames but I killed the 15 min dilation time by grazing the food samples. Do make an appt. they are busy, do show up on time. You may have to wait a little bit, I did, but that's because Julie is taking the time with each patient to make sure they are treated well and understand their exam and choices.
