I am an established patient of Dr. Julie Young. For weeks I have not been able to make contact. I have left several text and voicemails but no one has returned my calls. I had an appointment but was trying to postpone till a later date but no luck in doing this. My appointment date has come and gone but have heard nothing, they didn't even try to confirm my appointment which is unusual. I have given up on them. read more

My 1st time took 3x longer than any other dental appt I'd had and was pretty uncomfortable, but I decided to give her another chance. Due to the limited number of dentists who take my insurance, I stayed with Dr. Young for some time. During every single cleaning, she would tell me I had a new cavity that needed filling. I had not had one since early childhood and my insurance covers cleanings but I had to pay out of pocket for fillings... During my last X-ray, I apparently had another cavity despite being told earlier in that same appt. that I had great teeth and was taking good care of them. She then proceeded to ask me if I thought she should put in a filling. I asked her if she (the dentist) felt it was needed. She thought about it for a minute and said she would do the filling. To this day, I highly regret not saying no, as the experience genuinely traumatized me. During the filling, she had her dental assistant with her, who she was very rude towards. As a patient, it was really uncomfortable to be sat there and watch how she would talk to her. For context, her assistant was a Black woman who told me she'd only been there for a month. Dr. Young started my filling, became frustrated with her assistant, then called it a day after nearly 20 mins. She said I was good to go, and I now know the filling was not properly sealed. That same night, the plaster-like filling that was left on my tooth fell out and I now had a hole in the back of my incisor, which made it extremely difficult to eat/drink/breathe because of the exposed nerves. I left a VM that night asking to be brought in the next day, and had to call again when I did not receive a call back by noon. I was told to come in that afternoon, and when I did, Dr. Young said she was not able to help me and that I would need to wait until next week for her to fix it because she'd, "been having issues with her bonding agent and a new shipment would be arriving then." I asked if I was supposed to walk around with a hole in my tooth for the remainder of the week, and she asked me if it was causing me such immense pain that I couldn't do that. Upon confirming it was, she begrudgingly took a look. She said it was a bad day for me to come in, as her dental assistant had quit and she was having trouble finding someone to replace her. "People from Southern Marin (Marin City) don't want to work", she said to the WOC in her chair, "have you noticed that as well?" When I told her that no, I hadn't heard anyone ever say that, she seemed shocked and just laughed it off. After this interaction, she then told me that anything she could do about my tooth would be temporary and unlikely to last through the weekend, so I had to wait until next week. At that point, I could tell she wasn't going to take accountability or offer any solution (and I honestly just wanted to get out of there after her comment on "people from Southern Marin"), so I booked an appt for Monday and bought temporary filling from CVS. Come Monday, I get to her office after a painful weekend and she tries to tell me that she cannot assist me because she is booked for the day. I explain to her receptionist that this is the third time I am here and her receptionist tells her she needs to fix my filling. Dr. Young starts her second attempt at my filling, and when I ask for no lidocaine (her application is very painful and the amount she uses made my mouth numb for +6 hours), she asked several more times to use it. I firmly say no, and with the pain I felt over the weekend, the pain of the filling was nothing. She completes the filling after nearly 35 mins and I can immediately feel a difference, which confirmed my original fear that she had botched my 1st filling. At the end, she begins filing my tooth side next to my front tooth. I imagine this was to ensure there was enough of a gap to floss, but after this entire experience, I was quite fearful that she would file my other tooth or improperly finish this filling as well. My time with her has honestly been the worst experience I've ever had with any medical professional. I grew up going to community clinics and expected a private practice to have better quality care, but this was not the case. I've spent my life caring for my teeth and having her give me a faulty, unnecessary filling in a tooth at the front of my smile and file it down so there is now a gap between my teeth (after I spent thousands on braces) has deeply affected my self esteem surrounding my smile. I still feel anxious with dentists and despite it being nearly a year later, I still feel pain when eating from the physical act of biting and increased temp sensitivity from the (w)hole experience. I could not recommend a dentist less and do not know how she's still in business. I'm grateful for her receptionist's help, but I wish I had listened to my gut after the 1st appt. Dr Young you stated something about me stating false statements? I'm sorry I'll correct myself you did a crown build up on on my family member and you drilled to close to the gums causing infection after getting a 2nd opinion from another doctor, also when we arrived at the office & entered the room I seen blood stains on a few things, not to mention your assistant "Donna" was extremely rude to us the attitude was very snobby, we sat in your chair and continued to let you explain to us our concerns but you also told my child he needed 2 fillings which he didn't after getting a 2nd opinion, Dr Young is a nice lady like I said but dentistry is not for her anymore, I've had many family members come here & left cause we felt like Dr Young didn't inform us of our proper oral hygiene, I switched insurance plans just so I can get a better dentist, our appointment was unprofessional considering Dr Young mentioned to us her daughter is an alcoholic, you caused infection to gums on a loved one of mines, make it right or lawyers will be involved, nothing is false about my statement I'm sure the rest of the others who mentioned the same as I did will tell you nothing different from what I'm telling you, you don't follow protocol and not only have I had family members that's came to you but also friends, after discussing with them and getting 2nd opinions from different doctors stating things weren't done correctly we just didn't decide to come back until Tuesday, each time a different assistant was at the Office we even heard her arguing with another assistant during our appointment of how Dr Young was doing things incorrectly. read more

She is to be avoided at all costs. I went to have my teeth cleaned, a basic task that she was unable to fulfill. The tech who took x-rays was clumsy and awkward and the process was cumbersome and painful. Julie talked at length about her alcoholic daughter, then got up and walked away without polishing my teeth. My teeth are fuzzy and unpleasant and I will have to go out of pocket to have them cleaned. She has no recall of her walking away and my 'insurance' company has denied my claim, stating they can't verify it. Wild horses couldn't drag me back there. read more

Dr. Young was the only dentist in Marin that took the insurance I had when I was a child, she belittles you if you are not the stereotypical White wealthy Marin client even if you're a child. I still feel panicked going to dentists as an adult with how I felt under her care over 20 years ago. WARNING: If you are LGBTQ, definitely don't go here! I had never been treated like this in my entire life. She claimed upfront that she has never met a gay person in her life and she will let you know! When I told her I was married to a man for twenty years, she looked at me in disbelief, like I was crazy. She will ask ignorant questions, like "where do you meet other people like your kind?". (After all, she only works 30 minutes away from San Francisco!!) She won't clean your teeth because she's fearful to get AIDS, even if you are undetectable. She said I had odd bone structure which made it difficult for her to reach certain places. (To say the least I was most uncomfortable the ENTIRE time I was there!) An hour appointment lasted way over two hours. Her dentist chair had a huge hole in the center of the seat. But the worst yet was when she started in on her political affiliation and tried to tell me how wonderful Trump is. To end it all, she left me when she was done without mentioning that my beard and dress shirt were stained with white dental guck which the cleaners later had problems getting out. I immediately changed dentists to a non-homophobic environment! I am now extremely content with my new dentist! read more

ABSOLUTE TORTURE: It is unfortunate to be writing this because i did like Julie as a person prior to this visit, but for the sake of others health and well-being this NEEDS to be communicated. I had multiple cleanings done and had no issues here, I returned for some filling work and little did i know i would have the most painful traumatic experience of my life. My gums were partially numb but my teeth and nerves were absolutely not. I felt every single rotation of the drill digging into my teeth, drilling deeper into my nerves. My nervous system was shutting down and i was dripping in sweat, literally being tortured. (Mind you i am covered in tattoos so pain is nothing new to my body.) I immediately expressed the level of pain MULTIPLE times but was told it was almost done.. over.. and over, and that if i am given any more numbing agent, i wouldn't be able to talk for a hours. (This being my first time having any work done to my teeth, I didn't know what else to expect.) So i gripped the sides of the chair praying for it to be over, while Julie drilled into my teeth as i felt every movement. Her assistant Michele, was digging a mirror into my gums slowly separating the interior of my cheek from my gum later causing me massive sores and open wounds. During the installation of the fillings Julie stated "wait i don't know what to do" twice as if it was a new process they have never done. They continued arguing over tools and placement of tools in my mouth causing her assistant to be frustrated causing me MORE pain tearing my cheek instead of correctly placing the mirror and tools while i was about to pass out due to feeling of a drill drilling down into my nerves. After all the pain and again, torture, the fillings ended up not even curing properly and parts were falling out the next day. I have since went to a new practice, i was extremely nervous and embarrassingly scared to have anyone touch my mouth let alone have the work redone. This doctor numbed my nerves and gums with less medication than before, i felt absolutely NOTHING, i was asked how i was doing numerous times, and the assistant did not say a word, but knew exactly what to do. I truly hope this message finds you before you make an appointment here, this was a terrifying experience that no one should ever have to endure. I have filed a grievance with my insurance and am taking legal action due to the malpractice and negligence that took place. I HIGHLY advise you to look elsewhere for dental work, as no one deserves to feel like they are on the movie saw. read more

The office is a complete mess, they use manual paper and pen for booking appointments and patients records and I never heard back about a scheduled appointment. Her assistant, Michelle, is completely incompetent - she answered personal calls and was told how to do her job multiple times during my visit (she's been there for 8 years). Julie committed serious malpractice with my fiancés simple cavity filling - he communicated he was in serious pain and she forced him to proceed. He went to a second dentist to fix her work (filling completely falling out and nerve damage). She should honestly be shut down for that alone. read more

Never go to this dentist. The staff at this facility are unprofessional and do not practice the best form of patient care. While getting a routine cleaning the dentist is was brash and abrasive to her staff which created an uncomfortable environment. The dental assistant used a mouth mirror to provide the dentist more visibility and was not apparent to how rough she was with the tool. To the point where I had tears and asking for breaks. At the same time the office was not conscious of their calendar and double book themselves. They did not provide me any after care instructions and within a few days after my visit I developed an infection and had to seek medical help from my care physician. Do not go to the dentist!!!! I have to agree the service for this practice is poor. I wasn't able to see the doctor so I don't know how she is but this office is clearly not great. I called for an appointment and they said they could see me. Then they called back and said they don't accept my insurance. I called my insurance and they said this practice does accept it, it's also listed on my insurance's website. I even asked my own HR at work and they sent me a list of offices I could be seen at and this practice was listed on there. Very disappointed. As I also work in healthcare, this is how people fall through the cracks. I was a new patient a few months ago and it was very easy to get an appointment and subsequent follow up work. She is thorough, nice 'bed-side' manner, and knows her profession. My dentist in Greenbrae retired, I asked around and several people suggested I give Julie Young a try, and I am glad I did. Her office in Corte Madera is beautiful. The Staff is friendly and helpful. I go three times a year and look forward to each visit. Julie has done the majority of the work and cleanings herself, rather then handing my off to a hygienist... my old dentist had a revolving door of cleaning folks and I never got the same person twice, the dentist would make small talk and I knew he must be using a computer program to remember the answer cause he would ask me the same question ever year. I went to Dr. Julie Young couple years ago. I didn't think she was all that good to start with. Her hygenist was not friendly as well. Dr. Young didn't even do a pre-cleaning examination. All she did was a 5 minute scanning and told me I needed to extract one of my teeth. Of course, I didnt do it. I asked another doctor, he said my teeth are alright! I would say "buyers" beware. She sucks as a dentist!! This woman may have years of experience under her belt but has no compassion. During the cleaning, her entire fist rested firmly on my eyeball, even though I asked multiple times for her to remove it and on several occasions, physically removed her fist from my eye. Her response every single time was a very insincere 'sorry'. Then there was the pulling on my mouth, as if she's trying to fit her large fist into my mouth. Seriously, does she realize that she's dealing with a human being and not a rubber hose? And in giving her a second chance, I made the mistake of going back to have some work done to reduce my sensitivity to cold foods and liquids. The result was even more severe pain where it didn't used to have sensitivity. So, I fired her. Better later than never. The star here is not for her. I used to go to a dentist I loved in the East Bay but he has since retired, and I now live in the Marin area, so needed to find a local dentist. Dr. Young was wonderful. I got one of the best cleanings I've ever had and I have gum disease, so my teeth get a lot of cleanings. Normally I have to go every 3 mos. but her cleaning has been so thorough I put it off for 6 mos. She's great and really nice office. I highly recommend Dr. Young. read more

My wife recommended Dr. Young to me after my Berkeley-based dentist of 25 years retired. He was a gifted dentist, so anybody I went to afterward could only pale in comparison. I'm pleased to say that Dr. Young has been about as good and pleasant a successor as I could hope for. She is friendly, extremely competent, and honest about what she thinks I should be doing for my dental health. When she doesn't know something, she admits it, and when she talks about possible procedures, she doesn't beat around the bush about potential costs. A dentist's office is an extension of his or her personality, and her office is extremely organized and clean. Over my lifetime I've been in many dentists' offices and have never been all that impressed by their cleanliness. Dr. Young's office is impressively clean despite a steady stream of clients coming through it. (It turns out that she takes a direct hand in that---every weekend she puts in several hours herself helping clean the place in addition to the efforts of her regular cleaning service.) Dentists are a "to each his own" thing. I'm very happy with Dr. Young, and sorry to see the foul language that one person writing 5 years ago saw fit to use in her review of Dr. Young's skills. read more

I have been going to Dr. Young's office for over 20 years and then moved from Marin to Napa County. That didn't stop me from going back after a mediocre visits to the local Smile this and that Dentists. The friendly atmosphere (great view of Mt. I've been seeing Dr. Young for about 8 years. There have never been any problems. The hygeniests have always been professional, freindly and do a great job. Dr. Young and her staff (office manager Sandy is wonderful) are great. They are flexible with appointments and rescheduling and they bend over backwards to accommodate insurance issues. One of the things I appreciate most, is that I know Julie will be the one working on my teeth, whether I am in for a cleaning or something more serious. I have been a patient of Dr. Young for 22 years. She is a very skilled, gentle dentist. Her office is clean and comfortable. And Michelle and Marion are warm and welcoming (and they know their stuff as well). The entire experience in their office is always wonderful (have you ever looked forward to going to the dentist? You might with this crew). Dr. Young has done many crowns for me, the most recent was completely flawless the moment it went in my mouth. And whenever the crowns felt weird she patiently dedicated whatever amount of time necessary to make things right. Honestly, my mouth is in terrific shape! I am here in Corte Madera from florida for a training and one of my front veneers broke off last night in my hotel room. I didnt know what I was going to do since I am here for another 10 days. I started to look on line for a dentist even though it was after hours. I luckily picked Julie Young. Not only she answered at night, she was very caring. Dr. Young told me to come in at 7:15am this morning (before hours as she was booked) and she would see me. Well my veneer is back in place and she is my angel. I had a very unpleasant experience with this office. I called to make an appointment a month ago. I told them what insurance I had and was told it was accepted. I get a call three weeks later to clarify my insurance info, and she said she had to look into whether it would be accepted. I asked her to let me know asap because if I had to make an appointment elsewhere, I wanted to do it asap since I've been waiting to go in for an appt and I'd have to wait all over again. Of course I don't hear back and I call to check and nobody answers and I don't get a call back until the afternoon before my appointment saying they don't want to accept that insurance anymore. Even though they had not let my insurance know they no longer wanted to accept that fee plan. The receptionist was rude and insincere, can't say much for Dr. Young, except I'd have doubts about someone that would employ such a rude person. read more

I have to agree with the reviewers. I feel like I need to speak out about this considering the way healthcare is going. I felt like all she was interested in was my insurance plan and my maximum. That is mainly what she talked about, not my teeth or gums. I have never had a doctor do that to such a degree. I felt like I was on a used car lot - are you interested in fixing up your mouth? What does that mean? Do I need something done or not and why? A doctor that talks about your insurance that much is clearly trying to manipulate it to their benefit; that is why our system is so screwed up. Plus, the cleaning was not thorough and she did not seem to spend a lot of time checking anything in my mouth, and she was rough.I also was expecting to see a hygienist, another red flag. Her forearm rested on my shoulder the whole time and sometimes on my forehead. She did not even wear a mask, but the other staff did! Yuk!! So I went back to my original dentist who does not even take my insurance, but I don't care. Some of the cavities she told me about, she used some laser device, my dentist said I did not need to have done, that he did not see anything wrong. I am just glad I followed my gut on this one.
