I came to Raleigh to visit my family for Christmas wearing the worst wig on God's green Earth. My mother made me feel self conscious about my wig, but I was even more self conscious about my hair. So, I had resolved to go to the hair school to have them chop my hair off- it's Christmas Eve. DUUHH they're closed. So at 9am on Christmas Eve I hit yelp and try to find an affordable ethnic hair cut. Miss Cynthia answered my call. I said "do you take walkins or do I need to make an appointment?" She said "well what time were you wanting to walk in?" I said "Now." She sounded surprised, but told me to come on down. I explained to her my plight; she cut my hair, washed it and I'm currently sitting under a dryer. Miss Cynthia is such a sweet lady and while I was talking to her, I mentioned my husband is in the army and that's why we relocated - so, she gave me a little bit of a discount and told me to thank my husband for his service. Now, I'm not the person who goes around looking for military discounts- frankly, I don't even like to use coupons, but I thought that was sweet. $50 for cut, wash and style isn't too bad at all!! Like I said, I'm under the dryer right now, so I haven't seen my hair, but I believe I'm going to love it about as much as anyone can love their first super short hair cut/style. It was damaged to the max, but felt really good even after just the wash. So, I'm optimistic. I highly recommend this place and Miss Cynthia. Will update the review if I turn out to be wrong.

Aside from the conversations he had the whole 4 hour appointment, that were continually referring to his privates without saying the actual word, I was uncomfortable the whole time. But aside from his comments after putting all the foil on he put me under the heater and then walked away and took his 3rd or 4th phone call since I'd gotten there. I knew personal stuff was happening with his family so I wouldn't have cared except for the fact my head started burning to the point my body was shaking. I tried to wave him down but he didn't see me nor was he paying attention. I tried to get another stylists attention but sadly she was busy with another client and didn't see me (which I don't blame her for obviously I'm his client his responsibility). I scooted out of the heater trying to get the foil off my burning scalp when he finally noticed and came over. Only to touch the foil and jump back saying "it got me!". Mind you he didn't get it off my head still so my scalp is still being burned while he's airing off his hand. After admitting it was too hot he pulled off my foils and even admitted I should have been under the heater an additional 5 minutes. I asked him and another stylist if my head had been burned or hair fried because the pain was not going away even after my hair was washed. Both told me no no your head is fine, it's not even red then proceeded to continue yanking on my hair or scrubbing it intensely during my wash. This was the most painful salon experience I've ever had. Needless to say when I got home I had my husband check my head as it still was throbbing only to find my scalp had indeed been badly burned and I had oils leaking out for days trying to heal it with a massive scab that lasted well over a month.
