Lipstick applied looked white, asked her to remove it and I'd do my own lips at home. I was traveling to Raleigh, NC, for my nephew's wedding and wanted to get my makeup done for the occasion. I searched Yelp and found Blown Away Blow Dry Bar. It was close to our VRBO and (fingers crossed) looked like it would meet my needs. I called the salon and set up appointments for me and my mother. Our appointments were confirmed the day before and instructions for check-in were given about 15 minutes before we arrived, all via text messaging, which was very convenient. Brittany, our makeup artist, was very patient and kind with my senior citizen mother, who was getting her 1st makeup application. She made my mother look amazing, concentrating on her eyes, which are her best feature. My makeup was exactly what I requested: natural, judicious use of false eyelashes, just a slightly more glamorous, recognizable version of me. It's always nerve-racking to choose an unknown and untested person to do makeup for a special occasion, but my intuition served me well. I highly recommend Brittany for makeup application. read more

I was a little disappointed, during our appointment because we didn't get the full experience and we paid the full price. The website stated we would get offered a drink, water etc.... because they were not giving out alcohol, which was fine but we didn't get any drink offered, I did notify them that they should change website if we were not getting anything to drink, of course this is minor. Also we did not get a 10 min scalp massage due to covid 19, so I feel that should have been on website as well. These were minor issues in all. I don't like to leave bad reviews but I think it's important to know what you are going to get for a $40 blowout. When I first left the salon, most of my hair looked good and smooth. However, all of the areas around my face still had curl and had not been blown out well as you can see in the photos with hair pulled back. Also, about an hour after the blowout this is what my hair looked like - frizzy and sticking out in every which direction. Really bummed because salon is beautiful and people were very kind but bottom line I would not pay to have this done here again. read more

My first trip going to Blown Away was I blown awa Pros: 1. Great location nestled in with a variety of cute restaurants and businesses. 2. Convenient parking is located in front of the salon and easy to find. 3. The salon is clean and decorated nicely. Movies And WiFi can be used. 4. Easy online booking. 5. I was offered a drink immediately after checking in. Good morning mimosas! 6. My stylist was friendly and polite. Manager was nice as well. 7. My curls were styled nicely. Smelled great and hair was super soft. So what are the cons you may ask?... well here we go. 1. As I was signing in the manager informs me that if my hair took longer than an hr +15 min I would be charged For extra time in 15 min intervals. I agreed but honestly I was annoyed that NONE of that was expressed to me until now... not even on the website. 2. When I left the salon the middle of my hair was STILL WET! And if you come from curly hair crew you know that with this NC heat and damp hair is bad news puffy bears. I had to redo it at home. 3. Where my hair was parted had a little bit of flaking like dandruff! How?! I JUST got my hair washed! 4. Pricing. It is notified that extension hair is $20 more so I was prepped for that ($60 as stated on website) however the extra styling time cost brought me to $90.... way too expensive. 5. At checkout the manager kept repeating thick hair this and thick hair that. *insert eyeroll* if I would have know I would be charged extra for my texture of hair I would have gone elsewhere. 6. My fellow extension divas I don't think this salon is for you. They just aren't comfy with them. Yes it is listed as a blowout service for people who have them but honestly I wouldn't recommend it. Overall, I don't see myself returning. Maybe for an event but me and my thick hair with extensions will take my biz elsewhere. read more

I needed my insanely hard to manage hair straight for a wedding I was in a few weeks ago, so rather than taming the frizz on my own between wedding festivities I decided to pop into to Blown Away and treat myself. I may not have long hair but it's thick. Making an appointment was simple and quick and so was checking in on the day of my appointment. I was instantly offered a drink and led back to start on my hair. My stylist was nice, though chatty, talking almost the entire time. She even asked out of nowhere if I was pregnant (um nooooo, maybe slouchy?). Despite this (I was kind of caught off guard and a bit uncomfortable the rest of the appointment) she did a stellar job on my hair, getting it pin straight in less than 45 minutes. I was seriously impressed. Uncomfortable. But impressed. That being said I will probably be back if not for any other reason than being able to get my hair crazy straight insanely fast. The price was good for an occasional treat and the front staff was super friendly and helpful! Maybe next time i'll just be more obvious that I don't want to chat? read more

I was very disappointed and unimpressed with my stylist (I think her name was Brittany). I was there with a wedding party for one of my best friends wedding. This stylist spent over an hour attempting to do her hair and couldn't do it right and she had to take my stylist. She didn't do a braid as I asked in the picture I showed her and when I asked for her to curl my hair more or put more hair spray in she said it was fine and would hold. I reminded her it needed to last 4 hours...well she was adamant it was fine and wouldn't do anything else despite asking. Unfortunately I paid $60 for this (including the $10 tip I unfortunately gave her. Well 2 hours later after sitting and eating lunch - we hadn't even changed into our dresses yet - the tendrils in the front were completely straight and all the curls were gone from the side pony. I could have done my hair better at home myself and it would've lasted. I know it can last with better spray and such because I'd had the exact same style done for another wedding and it lasted all day. The other bridesmaids except one were disappointed with their hair and we spent most of then afternoon and evening trying to make sure it stayed in for the pictures. Aside from the typical parking issues inherent with North Hills, this place rocks! Got a blow out for a bridal shower and it looked great! Prices are on point for the area. The most difficult part is this place is usually slammed so it's hard to get a last minute appointment if you have a semi last minute event. It's really clean and the staff are all super nice!!! My only reason for 4/5 stars instead of 5/5 is the difficulty for getting last minute appointments. read more
