went to athens today about 4 o'clock pm. the place was dirty and dingy. the tables and chairs were in horrible condition. went to wash my hands there wasnt any soap just water to rinse .the paper towel dispenser didn't work.had to open door with wet hands. .that in itself is a red flag#2. dining area was the #1 red flag. red flag #3 was the menus. dirty,with way to many items. i went ahead and ordered the fajita plate. it came on a regular dinner plate not the usual sizzling fajita plate red flag #4. the rice was non edible. along with beans,the guacamole was in the brownish stage of its life those 3 failures are red flag #5.on to the the fajitas, tortillas were stale,the onions and bell pepper were cooked to oblivion and back.the meat wasn't even fajita meat. it was some cheap meat"steak".. seemed to have been steamed and put on the plate with a scoop. covered with the mushy onion and bell pepper.there was not a glimmer of fajita. i took a tiny bite of each item guacamole was sour. beans definitely old undercooked. rice old and tasteless. try to pass off cheap meat as fajita was also old and sour and tasteless. $14.99. $14.99 for a plate of slop. they sawed my friends t- bone in half. not the way your probably thinking. guys the the bone it self was sliced longways threw the bone! very evident as to what they had done. the meat was a thin slice. not what a normal t bone would be. stated it was rubber.my other friend ordered the senior enchilada meal. youd think it would have 1 enchilada it came with 3!!! it was sour as well. with the lack of buisness you'd think about soap in the bathroom. can you imagine what is lurking behind the swinging doors to where the food is stored and prepared. i am apalled at the total lack of cleanliness and lack of respect for the customer as well as for the self to prepare and then serve this health violation on a plate. i work in the food industry today was an insult to my sensibilities. to the owner this place needs to be shut down immediately. to the staff you should be ashamed and embarrassed to serve slop to your community. get out while you can dont go under with this place. to the community and beyond this is a warning. this place is toxic. do not eat there!!! read more

My wife and I decided to try the Athens Cafe because our normal restaurant was closed. It was Sunday Brunch and I decided to try it. The Omelettes were made to order want were perfect. The bacon was also good. The biscuits and gravy was okay. The rest of the buffet was not good. My wife didn't find anything she liked to eat. The waitresses were very nice and attentive. The dining area seemed very dark. I feel it should have been better lighting for Breakfast and Lunch. The restaurant was very full so I'm sure they have a local following. But this was not my preference. read more

Deserves zero stars. The frying oil used for our home fries was so overused, it was totally degraded and made the potatoes completely bitter and inedible. The bathroom was another disgrace. Had I not had an "emergency", I would have used the facilities elsewhere. Toilet paper lay on the filthy floor. Two soap dispensers were empty (which means staff was handling food with unclean hands) and the whole place smelled like a wastewater treatment plant. I reported this place to the health department. Here on vacation with my family and we always find a local place to eat. It has a fantastic mix of American and Mexican food for breakfast and lunch. Both time we have been there the breakfast meals have been fantastic. Chips and salsa with our meal too!! Service is wonderful and very personable, best touch is receiving a name tag for your server. We ordered for pick up as we are staying locally for a couple of days. One of the entrees was missing and we had to drive back. Initially when taking the order the employees were difficult to communicate with and then borderline rude when my spouse returned to pick up the missing entree. Taco salad, all taco and little salad, less than 1/4 cup salad. The hamburger steak and grilled chicken were good, nothing special. The philly Cheese was tasty, but the fries were raw. The cheese sticks were also well under done. Over all, this place is a miss. We will not try it again the next time we are here. read more

The food here was all right. What wasn't all right was the fact that they automatically tack on a 10% charge for "non-cash payment ". this is automatically added into your ticket before you even go up to the register to pay. They have no idea if you're paying with cash or with an ATM card or with a credit card, they're gonna charge you no matter what. I'm sick and tired of having to subsidize companies wages by tipping their workers because they don't want to pay them a decent wage, and now they're tacking on an automatic 10%? This has got to be illegal. Everybody pays with ATM cards now these days anyway, so charging people to use wh all of the banks and financial institutions want us to use is simply wrong. the fact that they don't even tell you about it upfront makes the whole process criminal. Even when I objected to it and I was going to pay cash they refused to take the fee off the bill. I don't care if it's $1 million, I'm never going back to that restaurant because of that. read more

Generally when you find a place that serves Mexican food and American food they don't do either very well. Not the case with Athens Cafe. Great chips and hot sauce. The special of the day was fried pork chops with two sides for $6.99. This was a great deal. The pork chops were fresh and flavorful. The mashed potatoes and gravy were fresh made. The green beans were the only thing that wasn't great. They had a lot of flavor but were obviously frozen beans. I would recommend eating here. Good food. read more
