We had an impromptu Saturday birthday luncheon here for 17 people ranging in age from 9 to 90. And wow, they rose to the challenge! They found seating for our large group, and we had one of the most attentive, personable, and organized servers I've ever experienced. I wish I had gotten his name because he deserves all the recognition. We had four generations of family represented, and somehow he kept everyone's drink orders, straight, even the refills. He made sure every order was correct despite special requests and substitutions. He timed the appetizers and entrées perfectly, so no one was awkwardly waiting for their food, and he split all of our checks quickly and accurately. On top of all that, he managed to make friendly conversation and kept everyone in a celebratory mood the entire time. He was genuinely impressive. The food was just as enjoyable, the menu offered a variety so everyone found something they were excited to order. I had the cedar planked salmon with the most delicious bourbon glaze. We also shared the deviled eggs and the chips and dip which were both good. Even the chicken tenders got rave reviews from the young ones. For first time ever had a very disappointed meal here and unfortunately not any redeeming factors. First disappointment was our party of 4 was seated at two tables pushed together that were about a 1/4 inch at least height difference which made it awkward to start with. Our appetizer which was a long platter could not be sat in the middle due to uneven tables. But even before that I sat my tea glass and spilled the entire glass . The waiter who was present came back and only partially cleaned it up and didn't replace our napkins which we had used to hold back the tea. My son had to go get napkins to clean his side of the table and a puddle of tea was still on the floor when we left. My tilapia for the first time had a fishy taste and mine and my wife's matchsticks vegetables were very sour for the first time. I did not eat mine. My son's chicken Parmesan dish had a macaroni cheese noodles. Last of all I was going to use my InKind app to pay only to find you no longer use it. First time ever I was disappointed here. This place is located in a busy area, but the service was great! The atmosphere is cute and seems fancy, but casual at the same time. I definitely didn't feel underdressed-we were just in town for the day shopping. The deviled eggs have bacon and they were so good! Ordered the Chicken Pine Salad and everything tasted great! The bathrooms were a little disappointing because I assumed they'd be clean and in working order, but if I hadn't had to use them, I'd never had known. The food at FD's Grillhouse was genuinely good, and our server and the kitchen staff were excellent -- none of what follows reflects on them. Here's the problem. Two of us ordered the same Spinach Pasta. My bill was nearly $5 higher. The only difference was crispy vs. baked chicken. The menu had no upcharge listed anywhere. I asked to speak to a manager. The manager on duty at approximately 5:38 PM on April 20, 2026 refused to come to the table and instead relayed messages through the hostess -- who had zero involvement in this situation. The explanation that came back: the crispy chicken costs more because it's a bigger piece. We had both dishes at the same table. Same size. That's not a mistake. That's a lie. And the manager knew it, which is why they stayed in the back and sent someone else to deliver it. The charge stood. No one made it right. If you eat here and your bill is wrong, expect the same treatment. read more

We love FD's. Food is great, and prices reasonable. Waitress' tell us the owner purposely keeps them lower that other places. He also owns "12"! We often get a cheeseburger takeout and fries. Huge, and we share. And my favorite is Fish and Chips. Never had a bad meal. Quite noisy when full, so we try to hit it at off times. Decor shows that soundproofing has been done in the design. It had a typical bar esque vibe with booths type of feel inside all very dimly lit. Their menu has a wide variety of foods but I kept it very basic and went for a cheeseburger and fries. I wasn't expecting it to be out of this world amazing but boy was I wrong! I realized that the meat to bun ratio was perfect for me. I'm not a fan of buns being twice or 1.5x the size of a burger patty. Thankfully this burger was proportionately in order with a great spread of veggies. This place has gotten a lot of good reviews, but we were very disappointed. My wife had the red snapper, which was so fishy she didn't eat more than a few bites. And my steak was so over seasoned with pepper that it was not enjoyable (and I like my steaks well-seasoned). Our server was good, but not really great. The place seems to be going for a higher-end vibe, with the low lighting and dark colors, but the menu doesn't really justify that and left us feeling more like a cheap steak chain. read more

What a puzzling situation! Not long after a rather glowing review, we made another visit, this time with friends. We had shared with them our belief that FD's is probably the best all around choice for good food with an eclectic menu. Alas, it was not to be. While the service was impeccable, the food turned out to be an embarrassment--an indication that we must not have known what we were talking about in recommending the place. I'll start with my dish--fish and chips. I was appalled to have set before me what appeared to be three fish sticks--but not even of grocery store freezer quality. Instead of the much anticipated crispy beer batter, these fish sticks appeared to be coated with some kind of leathery batter that slipped off en masse when cut with a fork. This freed the stick of (assumed) cod from its sarcophagus and required massive bathing in malt vinegar to elicit some kind of flavor. The accompanying coleslaw, which I formerly praised, was merely a lump of cabbage bits that had none of the freshness and flavor previously enjoyed. Did they forget the dressing? If that weren't enough, the asparagus spears, whose tops were edible, were much like biting into a garden hose on the other end. Two of us ordered the Hawaiian chicken, which was another unpleasant surprise--especially since the item had been highlighted on the menu. I get it that chicken breast is difficult to grill so as to ensure it's not becoming tough, but there are ways around it (check YouTube), which every chef should know. The accompanying broccoli was inexplicably overdone at the florets, but raw on the stems. Our friends were polite about our mischaracterization of the restaurant, but their furtive glances back and forth revealed their loss of confidence in our recommendation. I know that restaurants can have bad days, and I cannot know the circumstances on this visit. Had we not been with friends, we may have sent our dishes back, but we really wanted to avoid the spectacle of sending everything back. Since it is very unconventional for a restaurant to lose two stars between two visits, we are determined to return, so as to give it a chance for the best two out of three. read more

First time eating here. Kinda busy, but it was Friday night. We were seated near the bar so it was a bit noisy, but it looked nice atmosphere. Wait staff seemed to be milling around a lot but our waiter was attentive. Salmon on the cedar plank was good, Pine Room salad was nice but a lot of onion taste. Hubby had stuffed shrimp (that was a bit fishy) but the steak was to his liking. We ordered the key lime pie and before it arrived, "do you want the check now? " we were asked. After years of searching the Tyler area for a great steak, I *finally* found the one! The filet was the best I've had... possibly in all my 68 years. I appreciated a real pepper grinder on each table although my food was seasoned so well, it was not necessary. Unable to consume a large meal, Andrea (fantastic server) kindly prepared the baked potato as take out and brought it last thing with the check. The martini was good too! The servers take the orders and bring the food making sure the order is correct. They do not hover but are readily available if needed and work to keep their own stations tidy. The atmosphere was nice with soft music that was not too loud. My only less than stellar observation was that it is quite dark. I will be a regular customer!!! read more

The wife and I popped in for a quick appetizer and drink before we go home and face the music... kids... but these kids grown. Talking about our parents. I know I know... and we are truly grateful for them, but every now and then ya need a break! With that said, we popped in, seen the waiting area looking pretty full, so we crept into the bar and struck liquid gold!!! No... not the oil kind... but the alcohol kind. We both ordered Mules, mine being made with Tito's and her's made the Texan way-whiskey. The drinks were good, a bit sweeter than we normally like, but refreshing none the less. My wife mentioned she couldn't taste the difference or strength in her whiskey drink. Now that's one of two reasons at least. One, it's just that sweet, or two... the Lady has really built up a tolerance to whiskey (probably more the latter ). We ordered the Hot Crab and Shrimp Dip to split since we were kind of in a hurry. The dip was tantalizing to the taste buds, and it came with chips and pita bread or naan type style of bread. We both enjoyed it, but was slightly disappointed with our chips. It looks like we got the bottom of the barrel on this plate, as all the pieces were micro-fractions (who said I wouldn't be using math terminology after school?!) of the original chips. If you ever tried scooping a chip in a cream cheese dip, ya know how frustrating that could be. Although, these fatty fingers were finger lickin' good!! Outside of that, I'm absolutely planning on coming back for a real meal and more drinks! Parent Patrol can be challenging at times!
