There was art on the walls but it was randomly put up and if it was for sale, it was unclear what the prices might be as they were not labeled. Cute little coffee shop in the heart of Topeka, Kansas, with friendly service, great coffee, a casual and comfortable vibe inside, and some good food. I was just passing through town on a road trip, and was staying across the street from Juli's, so it was a super convenient option. Walking in, it immediately felt like a great small town coffee shop, where I'm guessing the staff knows most of the regulars buy name. The service was friendly and helpful, the coffee was really good, and my sausage, egg, and cheese sandwich on a biscuit was prepared quickly. It was also delicious! Food quality was excellent and priced more than reasonable compared to other local eateries in local area. The London fog tea was very tasty and was one of the best for this area! The atmosphere is warm and inviting, the owner is delightful and the employees are very attentive and passionate about their delivery of food and service. The building has unique charm and feels warm and cozy The seating is well spaced and open so you don't feel crowded. There is a lot of local art work from a local photographer displayed for sale and enjoyment. Once you've been here you feel like a friend and you'll want to come back. read more

Having been periodic frequenters of the previous location of Juli's- I like the placement of this location better! The food is delicious. My husband had the 'train wreck' (2 biscuits with sausage gravy, scrambled eggs, cheese and bacon stacked) which was a perfect portion size and plated appealingly. I got the 'horse food' (oatmeal, berries, apples) and a side of bacon. The oatmeal was obviously freshly prepared and not mushy. It also had a hit of sweetness. The decor is still homey like the old location, and they're figuring out their space. I still love the unique salt and pepper shakers at each table. I really thought I was going to like this place more than we did. It is a local hang out but they get business from hotel across the street too as was the case with us. It is nice to support the small local businesses. I ordered the breakfast biscuit with sausage egg and cheese. My husband got the the cleverly named, horse food. It was oatmeal with blueberries, apple and cinnamon. It seemed to be missing the honey which was okay with him however what was not okay was the fact they were instant oats! Not at all what we expected. My biscuit was good not great. The sausage and egg were good but the biscuit was ho-hum. A bit dry and past the golden brown stage. We did have to wait a little bit for our food to arrive but considering there was 1 man cooking on a tiny griddle it could have been much worse if they had been busy. Coffee was fine. I will say the 2 folks waiting the counter were very nice esp the gal. One issue I had with the place was ladies room. It was freezing!! I mean cold in there. The toilet handle was also half broken off. If I was in the area again I would probably give it another try so there were some positives. read more

Greeted with kind faces and a warm home like atmosphere this little bistro was a diamond in the rough. This place was just what you want in a coffee and breakfast spot. Good basic breakfast food , strong coffee, and comfy homey tables and chairs. I had a breakfast taco (which actually was a quesadilla, by the way) which had egg, sausage, and cheese. It was served with a cup of salsa. My friend had a 3 egg omelette that he said was delicious. He was disappointed that the jelly for his toast was generic packets. An odd thing, given COVID and general food service hygiene, that the restaurant management might want to consider is putting finished orders waiting to go out to customers under a restaurant quality heat lamp away from the pathway that any patron can walk by (and cough or flick hair around,etc). The way it was set up I thought you went and picked up your own food, but was told the "server will bring it to you" when I reached for my plate. The atmosphere was relaxed, and I loved the big family dining room tables towards the back that just added to the inviting aura of the place. The food is mediocre at best if you are accustomed to anything better, but if you are from Topeka or anywhere like Topeka where flavor is frowned upon then you will love this place. However, as the only food I've eaten from here was not on the menu and custom made, I can only attest to the insider information I have received. Turnover as it pertains to maintaining the employment of staff is a large issue. This is solely due to the petty, fifth generation Topekan, owner of the establishment. Even her husband can't stand the woman. Allow me to present evidence of my claims. The owner allows sexual harassment to occur ad nauseam. The owner often goes behind the backs of her workers to assassinate their character. The owner often gives commands contrary to what should be done, then blames the one she commanded for her own poor decisions. The owner exercises her petty powers any chance she can, simply to undermine the confidence of her workers. The owner allows addicts, who can't even cook an egg due to intoxication, to remain at work. The owner makes egregious demands, such as telling workers to stop squirting syrup so loudly. The owner belittles her husband in front of staff. The owner encourages her daughter to have the same illogical, and disgusting mindset. I could go much further, but I think I have made my point clear. Now on to the ingredient choices by the owner. I know the area cannot tell, as no one has taste in Topeka, but everything here is bland. The owner often alters recipes without notifying anyone, because her unrefined palate wouldn't know good flavor if it kicked her in the taste buds. If this wasn't already unfortunate, she thinks she knows better than those with degrees, experience, and knowledge far surpassing her meager existence. Furthermore, the owner opts in to buying boxed ingredients as well as the lowest end "fresh" ingredients she possibly can. (Order the "ciabatta" and laugh at her for thinking its ciabatta) Just to throw salt in the wound, food vendors often hand out large free samples every time they visit an establishment, to people they like. This establishment almost never gets any without begging like a child throwing a tantrum. Now, the owner cannot be completely bad, right? I'm sure some would come to her defense, such as those she shows favoritism for unspoken reasons or those she can torment into submission. It certainly isn't for their value as an employee that she holds them in high regard (refer to addict can't cook an egg because he is so high comment). If all this cannot dissuade you from dining here, then know that the owner bought this place and all their recipes from the former owner. Yes, she bought the recipes, taking the easy and less creative route, and still manages to screw up at every turn. One can only hope that someday the owner will change her ways, but I'd be just as happy to watch her business die in the irrelevancy of Topekan mediocrity. I encourage those who fear the owner's wrath to speak out against it publicly, so that the owner's terrible treatment of her employees can be brought to an end. The community will be on your side and you will no longer need to repress the damages she is causing/has caused you. read more

I went here twice during my time in Topeka. Of all the downtown offerings, this seemed like one of the best options. I really liked their iced chai, and I got a sandwich and a wrap that was on their menu. They were fast at preparing the food. Of the grilled cheese and CBR wrap, the wrap was my favorite. Their cafe space was cute, and it looked like it was big place to go during lunch time. People were also there doing work or reading a book. I have been a fan of Juli's from her Huntoon location, and the new downtown venue is even nicer. It's much bigger and more open and will eventually have a great banquet space. My favorite is always the Cattle Club, but ask for it with Juli's Bistro Sauce instead of mayo. It's a roast beef sandwich with bacon, cheddar, lettuce and tomato on wheat toast. Yum! For something different, I also like the Grilled Cheese with Granny Smith Apples. The tangy apples with the sharp cheddar are a great combo. read more

I had the 3 egg scramble and a mocha. Casual relaxed atmosphere and very reasonably priced (scramble and mocha was only $11 incl tax). A great addition to downtown Topeka without being overwhelmingly excellent about anything. The Thai salad has a good peanut sauce and the sandwiches are perfectly fine. The "chips or pasta salad" choice of sides simplifies things for the kitchen but leaves something to be desired for the lunch customer. The daily specials can be competent without being fantastically wonderful. Their better meal is likely breakfast, but no coffee excellentness so still only a qualified win. Nice folks, especially the proprietor. Nice dining room. Spacious. Basically the downtown Topeka version of a cool little cafe, just without the excellent eats or coffee. Be glad it's here. read more
