I am hesitant to write a review of the beautiful gem of a place. It is tiny and perfect. If it becomes more popular, it will be very hard to get a table. This will cause me pain. I have cooked a thousand times with a Michelin three-star chef. I have worked at times in his pastry kitchen. I understand great food. The baked goods here feel as if they are crafted by the greatest grandmother baker who has ever lived. They are not like a world-class pastry shop makes them. They are better because they are a perfect example of the greatest grandmother baker's food. They feel like love. The savory menu is inventive, even whimsical, and very well prepared. I often joke that the staff is fed a Prozac-like mood-elevation drug. The service staff is all so lovely. The service also feels full of love. Awesome hidden gem hidden away in a quiet neighborhood in Bethlehem. Was looking for a lunch spot in the area and this place seemed highly reviewed. I can now see why. The folks who work here seem to genuinely care about their customers and it shows from the moment you walk in. It's a bit on the smaller size so depending on when you come, you may need to wait a moment. After a short wait, our food arrived and it was great. The pancakes were good and so was the pork roll, egg, and cheese (a welcome sight in PA as someone who came from NJ). One criticism, the cream chipped beef from another in my party was a bit too salty. Not sure if it's always like that or if this was an anomaly. But most importantly, I left very satisfied. Been eating here for decades. This is the best place for breakfast in the valley. Everyone lines up before it opens for the first seating with good reason, the food is great, the specials are better! If you are in a rush or can't wait, don't bother coming, you can't rush made from scratch, fresh food with home made everything including their English muffins. My wife and I came in here for breakfast around 10:30 on a Friday morning. The atmosphere is cozy and quiet. We were seated within 5-10 mins. There are maybe 8-10 tables with either 2 or 4 seats. The food was tremendous. My wife ordered quiche Lorraine with a side salad. I ordered the Savory strata with sausage gravy. The bread in it has the consistency of bread pudding. It was SO GOOD! My wife doesn't often get jealous of whatever I order, but she was jealous of this one. We also got two scones, two shortbread cookies, and two Kipfels to-go. Jumbars is a breakfast and lunch spot that closes around 2 so no dinner here. The focus mostly on fresh ingredients and everything thing is freshly made including their breads. The breakfast menu is mostly oatmeal, breakfast sandwiches, omelets and French toast/ pancakes. They also have changing weekly specials. The food was good, but not great. I had the bing cherry pancakes, they were just missing something flavor wise, not as much cherry flavor as I was expecting. My wife had the strata she said it was good but I found the blueberries to sweet. The service was fine, nothing special. There appeared to only be one server for the entire place so she was running around all over. Even with that she was still attentive to our needs. Everything was clean. Parking is on the street. They also off a bunch of baked goods to go, so you can walk in and grab a coffee and a scone to go if it is too busy. Overall a fine place to grab breakfast in Bethlehem. read more

Came for Sunday brunch around noon figuring I'd have to wait awhile for a table but got seated within five minutes. The tofu scramble was amazing: so much fresh zucchini and spinach, mushrooms and tomatoes, and they were perfectly cooked. Plenty of tofu in there too! Loved the rye bread and potatoes as well. I never ran out of coffee or water, the staff was very kind and attentive, and even though it was baking outside, the restaurant was cool and comfortable. Back here this pleasant, sunny Easter weekend day, after 9 months away. perfect weather to run errands and stop here first. The entire staff are like busy bees: Emily taking care of the counter, Rachel and KARA maintaining the dining floor and constant flurry of hungary diners. My plate of scrambled eggs, fresh cut grilled potatoes, (best ever) meaty slab bacon and homemade English muffin. Rachel graciously brought me blueberry jam and peach preserves for the top. . . . and thanks to Paul and Harry, the main reason all that food arrives to each table. The best breakfast!!! I love the Jenn egg white omelet with carmelized onions, goat cheese, and mushrooms. I get grits instead of home fries. The people who work there are super friendly. We have become regulars and we love it here. There are scones and other baked goods to eat there, or take home. The cutest little breakfast/lunch cafe in the Lehigh Valley, I cannot recommend a weekly breakfast here enough. The food is delicious, and all the dessert and pastries are home-made. The waitresses are always so warm and friendly, and I love the colorful tablecloths they use. Jumbars on the corner of Chelsea Avenue and East Greenwich Street, Bethlehem, PA, is a family operation with Dad running the kitchen and daughter running the front of the house. They make a good pair, as the folks working the floor seem to love their jobs, or at least, gave that strong impression to this customer. As a first timer, the friendly servers gave me the full rundown on the shop, and made sure I knew that all the excellent goodies enjoyed with breakfast were also available for purchase. While I wasn't quite ready to bring things home, I understood why I was told. As much as Jumbars is a cozy Victorian café with lace curtains, colorful plateware, and excellent coffee, it was even more an exceptional bakery and jam house. Our sour cherry scone was near perfect in size, texture and flavor. Literally, on top of that delight, awesome jams and jellies were available at the jam bar to mount atop the crusty scone after a small lathering of sweet butter. The strawberries, blueberries, peaches and apples that sacrificed themselves in pectin deserve Metals of Distinction for their quality flavors. Really, the stars of the show were the baked goods and spreadables. I was left to fantasize about all those offerings, particularly the Jumble Berry Pie. How did I manage to resist a slice of that heavenly blue body? We did move on to more egg-centric breakfasts, with me going with their home baked whole wheat English muffin sausage, egg and cheddar sandwich, and my exotic companion a more standard scrambled eggs, home fries and wheat toast platter. While I liked the sandwich, it could not match the fireworks of the baker's sweet fusillade. It became the background to the dough symphony from the oven. It likely wasn't their intention, but it did appear that dessert was the place to start and finish here. The eggs just couldn't match the luster and sex appeal from the bakery. The coffee from Monocacy Coffee Co. was likewise superior free flowing caffeinated washdown. Everything from this strong Joe, to all the baked goods and jammies were available for purchase. A quaint and delightful place for lunch. I enjoyed the casual, kitschy atmosphere. The equality sticker on the front door was nice to see. I had the Baby Bella grilled sandwich which comes with bella mushrooms, zucchini, caramelized onions, and mozzarella. A side of grilled potatoes accompanied it. Everything was excellent except the coffee which tasted more like tea to me. Not sure if it was their bean or how they prepared it. A place like this really needs to do coffee right. Went here last Saturday with my parents since we were visiting Bethlehem for the day. The Yelp reviews led us here so we had high expectations. At first we weren't sure if it was open because of the road construction and the patios furniture wasn't setup but we went to look inside and thankfully it was open! We went around 1 pm. The inside is adorable, not too big but there was only one table open which was a good sign. There were a bunch of specials for the day and they use a lot of local produce from farms. We ordered the hummus platter to start and it was delicious. Loved the flavor of the hummus! I just wish there was more of both the hummus and the pita. It seemed tiny for $7. I planned on ordering the special of the day, the eggplant panini but sadly they were out of it. I ordered the portobello panini instead since I'm a vegetarian. I got a side of fruit instead of the potatoes. The panini was delicious, however, I wouldn't really call it a panini since its on pita bread and the one half of the sandwich had no side to keep everything in, so it all fell out and was so messy! I also got a cup of chili as a side which was delicious! My mom ordered the spinach, tomato and cheese quiche with chili and she couldn't stop raving about them. My dad ordered the pulled pork sandwich and he loved every bite. His only complaint was that the sandwich was tiny. The food is delicious, fresh and flavorful. There is a table in the corner that has all the condiments that you help yourself to which was vey cute. All the desserts looked delicious and were homemade but we didn't get any. There is a lot to like about Jumbars-- the kitschy decor, the amazing homemade English muffins and jams and other baked goods, the free-flowing coffee, the inventive specials, the reliable main menu. There are also some reasons we don't come here more often: there is always a long wait, which is not only because it's a small place with teeny tables but also because the food takes forever to come out. And there's no great place to wait except standing over other diners and breathing down their necks as they eat. There are a lot of new breakfast places opening up in Bethlehem, too, which have some more trendy, fresh menu items, more options for vegetarians, etc... and I really hope Jumbars keeps up with them! We always enjoy coming here-- we come hungry and get hungrier, we debate between ordering anything that comes with an English muffin, or the savory strata which is rich and delicious and can be ordered vegetarian... We leave happy, often with a bag of English muffos in hand. But with just a hint more efficiency I think we'd be even happier! (And would come even more often!) read more

The antiquated decor of this cozy breakfast/lunch spot reminds me of being in my grandma's kitchen. I had a hankering for an omelette, and was quite disappointed to walk in at 11:30am to find out that breakfast is only served until 11am. Their lunch menu is mostly comprised of sandwiches. I opted for a turkey sandwich with apple chutney on cinnamon raisin bread. My friend got the Greenwich st special, which is turkey with cheese and Granny Smith apple. We also ordered a bowl of curried yam soup to share. My turkey and apple chutney sandwich was a bit of a let down. Only half of my sandwich had the apple chutney. The chutney eaten in isolation was tasty, but in conjunction with the cinnamon raisin bread, it was just too sweet. I would choose a different type of bread or incorporate some heat within the chutney to balance out the sweetness. My friend enjoyed his open face Greenwich st sandwich, but felt that the portions were too small for the price ($10). It was basically two single half slices of bread with turkey, apples, and melted cheese on top. Also, the potatoes were under seasoned and desperately needed more salt. In addition, the curried yam soup did not have enough curry. On the flip side, their cheddar bacon scone was delicious. I remember really enjoying their Sunday brunch when I visited several months ago, but can only base my review on today's visit as I don't really recall what I ate the last time. read more

Our party of three had Spanish Omelette (roasted peppers, caramelized onions, bacon & cheese), Pumpkin Pancakes (seasonal), and Savory Bread Pudding. All dishes were delicious! I have to agree that this is THE brunch spot. If I lived in Bethlehem, this would be a tradition for me. The interior is bright, colorful and friendly... the smells wafting about are tummy grumbling. He he. We both started with the sweet potato soup, which we enjoyed. As it cooled, the flavor became more pronounced and rich. I got a grilled salmon salad, and my sweetie got the Baby Bella pannini. I liked his pannini a LOT. It was full of flavor and the perfect texture. The crust was nice and flaky & buttery. My salmon was a small slice of delicious, on a fresh salad. I would've liked a little more dressing on it, as the salmon didn't quite stretch through the whole salad, and it got a bit boring chomping on greens towards the end. But it was nice & healthy and cooked perfectly. The coffee was good. The service was to be expected with all the tables full and only two servers. We actually didn't mind this, as we were chatting away along with all the other patrons here. We actually got dessert afterwards.... neither of our meals were huge, so there was room. We shared a jumble berry pie, and it was SO GOOD! It was a big ole' slice, too! Mmmm.... Don't get all bothered if it takes a while to get your food. It'll be worth it. I have been here a few times for lunch and finally made it for breakfast with my family. Place is small and there tends to be a wait, but it's well worth it. We waited 45 minutes for a table for 3. Once we were sat, the waitress brought over a fruit bowl (best I've had), since the wait was so long. Wow, what customer service! I had the French toast... freshly baked French bread... it was great.
