It attracts a lot of chill people so it's low pressure and easy for someone coming alone, which was true of most the class. Then we went on and took the beginning doubles for more play. You rotate around in 7 minute games with different partners each time so you get a lot of play time and learn from your partners. It's in a nice gym, with AC, great for year round fun.

More than 10,000 rose bushes and over 610 varieties fill the International Rose Test Garden, including some seriously beautiful colors and varieties you probably didn't even know existed. And yes, you'll even find roses that are so dark they look almost black. It's absolutely gorgeous. I happened to visit when Portland was putting on its best hot-and-muggy summer impression, and the garden was packed with tourists. But honestly, once you're surrounded by all those roses, the heat and crowds become part of the experience. The garden has been around since 1917 and was originally created as a safe haven for European roses during World War I. Today, it's the oldest continuously operated public rose test garden in the United States, and new varieties are still tested here before they hit the market. The location is hard to beat, too. You're right in Washington Park, with the Portland Japanese Garden practically next door, the Oregon Zoo nearby, and plenty of trails and other attractions throughout the park. You can easily make a whole afternoon out of it without driving all over Portland. Best of all, the Rose Garden is free. If you're in Portland during the summer, stop and smell the roses literally. The CEO, Scott Baxter claims there is a disclosure on the site that warns of no refunds but he's lying - there isn't. And even if there was, they call you to get your credit card number so unless you happen to be their web site when they call, you wouldn't be aware of a "no refund" policy anyway. They don't disclose that over the phone. DECEPTIVE. DISHONEST. UNETHICAL. BUYER BEWARE.

The pathway circles around the block which is surrounded with trees, a playground, several picnic areas, tennis/pickleball courts, basketball courts, a pool, and a small church. This allows for plenty of activity here and the park is clean with trash kept in the cans and grass always smoothly cut. While walking here, you'll notice birds chirping and dogs barking; giving for a soulful stroll as you bask in the sounds of nature and a community vibing. I sometimes will come here by myself when I'm in Portland to get a peace of mind and enjoy the moments of solitude. The people are friendly as everyone waves and smiles when you walk by. It's such a spacious park that I can easily see it being a great venue for both small and large events.My favorite part, though, was the lake. It created such a peaceful atmosphere and made it easy to slow down and just enjoy the moment. I loved the multiple viewpoints overlooking the water, and seeing the ducks swimming around was the perfect finishing touch.This ended up being one of my favorite places to unwind during my time in Portland.
