If you've never heard of the Belmont Goats, read on! Their story began years ago on a vacant lot on SE Belmont where the goats were originally brought in to clear brush. (Goats are really great at that - 50 goats can clear roughly one acre in 3-5 days) But what started as a practical land management solution, quickly bloomed into something much bigger. The public fell in love with these friendly goats! Over the years the goats have faced their fair share of struggles, but the public has banded together to ensure they always have a safe and reliable home. Because of this community support, the goats have done a fair bit of travel within the city. They left Belmont for several locations in Lents, then moved north to University Park, then made their way to a permanent home in St Johns at Pier Park. I just want to say "thank you" to all the volunteers who have contributed their time, donated money, and advocated for these sweet creatures over the years. The community that has been built around the Belmont Goats says a lot for Portlanders, and our shared appreciation for making our city a friendly and loving place. It's free, but donations accepted to help out with the goats. The people running the place were friendly and informative. I was able to pet and brush the goats. The goats were cute, and I enjoyed getting to spend some time with them. :)

Although it is at a Christian church, they welcome everyone for FREE! There is a HUGE multi-level play structure with climbing obstacles, crawling tubes, a cargo net bridge, tube slides, lookout observation windows, and more! The playground is cleverly decorated with douglas fir trees, a sun, and a 3-story tall mural! The large play structure is for ages 3-11. Another small structure and foam pads are for infants to 3 years. They also have foosball and air hockey tables. They even sell snacks! The bathroom is clean and there are step stools for the toilet and water fountains. Parents are not allowed on the play structure, but there are tables to sit and watch or visit with others. Shoes are not allowed and socks are required in most of the floor, so there's cubby holes to store them. It's all FREE and it looks like they have a donation box in case you want to help contribute to the maintenance and whatnot. A slide that was cracked 2 years ago now has a sharp half edge at the bottom while the other half is missing. The pad under the equipment is torn to hell and needs to be replaced. All the swings except 1 work and that's my daughter's favorite things. Much like the dilapidated and old park near the aquatic center rather than remove the broken crap they leave it for kids. There are potholes in the mat under equipment everywhere. Its a dangerous hazard. The actual jungle gym is nice, but everything else is garbage. Moss and mud are underneath things. Someone needs to fully repair the ground, change the underneath to chips maybe, replace the swings, replace the slide and add the seat back to the helicopter. Evergreen is a shithole and this eye sore is no good for my daughter. Talk about a company that doesn't care.

The owner Sarah is a former teacher and she and her staff were wonderful. The girls learned to groom the horses, braid the horses manes and even decorate the horses. Then off to an indoor arena lesson and games while riding. Followed by a trail ride. Looking forward to returning with the family for the family lesson at very competitive pricing.

I highly recommend this place for young families. This place is popular and for good reason. They have three big sand pits for kids to dig in for hours. Check their web to see if there is a waitlist. If they're full, put your name on the waitlist and time when to head over. However, the person at the front desk said the wait is usually shorter. The workers are friendly and helpful. There are cubbies to put your items. They also provide protective eyewear if your kid doesn't want sand in their eyes. Otherwise, just bring yourselves! They provide all the tools to have fun in the sand. Everyone must be barefoot. There is a small area in the very front near the entrance for babies to play. There is also a small snack and drink area. You can eat your packed lunch at the tables or feel free to buy some snacks and drinks from a self serve kiosk. They also sell some merchandise and toys. There are two family friendly bathrooms, but one is larger so if you have a stroller and/or a big family, you all can fit in that one. This large bathroom has a small toddler toilet, which is awesome when you're potty training a little one. In the cabinet there are some diapers. The workers periodically sweep the sand back in the pits. They keep the place clean and safe. It's a great place! Their Easter egg hunt was so much fun too. Probably the most fun and safe egg hunt I've ever been to because they limited the number of people attending each session. Everyone found tons of eggs everywhere, and three people found the three golden eggs for a prize! They brought out the Easter Bunny (looks like Peter Rabbit) and gave away a goodie bag before leaving. Worth it for $30. We'll be back next year for this event.

Here are my 8 year old's thoughts; he called it "a really fun place to make great slime" - you can make really cool textures of slime, including "cloud" -- the kid recommends "clear" and "butter" because they are the most stretchy and squishy of all the options - you can add smells and accessories - the employees are really nice and tell you what to do - it's satisfying when it's mixing because all the colors come together As a parent, I'll say this makes for one expensive playdate. At $30 a pop it adds up, and the hands-on time is maybe 20 or 25 minutes total. Still, every kid there was having a good time. And there are a lot of fun mix-ins so that everyone makes something unique and uber-personalized. And the slime is still top toy at home on day 2. You can make reservations ahead of time, but those seem loosey-goosey because walk-ins are also welcome any time.

We took our daughter here to do the DIY slime experience as her birthday present and she had a great time! We were the only ones there on a Thursday mid morning so we got to have a one-on-one experience which was nice. The steps to this DIY experience were clearly displayed and explained on each of the walls and the person there did a great job explaining everything and helping her slime become less sticky. (Omg so sticky lol) They had a few different kinds of slime bases to choose from, then you pick a color and a scent. You take this to the mixing station with the pretty teal Kitchen Aid mixers to mix and it smelled so good! (She picked marshmallow so it smelled like birthday cake!) The next step is to add mix-ins like confetti balls or glitter and little sprinkle like items. You take all this to the table station and mix mix mix and make sure the slime is the stickiness you want. This is probably the most fun part for her and I'm sure other kids because you get to stretch and fold and play with the slime! The last step is to pick 3 big toppers to put on top of your slime container to take home. The whole thing was $27 and I thought it was worth it for the fun special experience! It looks like they also offer workshops and parties so we will be interested in checking those out in the future!

Kinda defeats the purpose of a playground if free play/running is not allowed. (The entire floor is nicely padded.) There weren't age-stratified playtimes listed, but they did have sensory-friendly times, which not all venues provide. It might not get all the kids' wiggles out if running isn't on the menu. The main play structure is great for preschool and young elementary ages, as is the short rock wall. There are other toys around to play with, but these have to be kept in the area away from the structure. I think I have a different idea of what a mixed-age playground can handle. As a mom of mixed-age kids, I don't think the running was disruptive or dangerous at all. But it's not my call, and we must abide by their rules if we want to play there. We ended up leaving after a short time to head to a park so the kids could run. Luckily the weather was accommodating.

SJFS is an amazing place! They provide food to so many people! Everybody walks away with bags…read moreoverflowing with many types of food. They have frozen meat (beef, chicken, pork), dairy, eggs (sometimes), lots of fresh vegetables and fruit, ready-made meals, canned goods, dry food, dessert, and more. Since their model is based on donations, you never know what you're going to get- but that's part of the fun. I love seeing what unusual vegetables and fruits they have. The volunteers are great, and they help new clients figure out the store's layout. They're always available to answer questions. Most of the volunteers only speak English, but a few are fluent (at least at a conversational level) in Spanish and other languages. There is a line, so be prepared to wait awhile. The volunteers set up tents to cover people in line if it's raining. I definitely recommend going here if you are struggling to afford food. It's a lifesaver. It's 100% free to use and doesn't have income barriers.
