Usually I am a specialty roll fan at Jun's although I have also enjoyed ramen bowls and bento boxes. Tonight I chose to go with the Tempura Udon Combo. This includes a udon bowl, the thick round noodles in broth with chopped vegetables which are cooked by the hot broth. But this is a combo which means it includes shrimp and vegetable tempura and four pieces of California Roll. The combo was excellent; I challenge you to find fresher ingredients and more perfect tempura anywhere. Another scrumptious experience at probably one of the best Sushi restaurants anywhere. And the reasonable prices are a welcome surprise. read more

The sushi was OK... not the best. The customer service was good. Parking was ok when I went. The location is nice. Was I impressed with the food? Mehh... I probably wouldn't go there again unless I was in that part of town and didn't have enough gas to get to Blue Fin. In my opinion they use too much rice in their rolls. I don't like that. I also appreciate a sushi place when they show photos of each roll in their menu so it makes it easier to order when I'm too hungry to read every description.... they don't do that. Cafeteria style sushi, and it was pretty decent. They do have giant hot sake, which is what we were kind of going for, and I didn't feel like I was taking up a table when we sat there hanging out for a while. We had a regular tuna roll, and the Bellingham roll, both of which were tasty and came out relatively quickly. The people working there were friendly and helpful, and while not as fancy as some of the other sushi places in the area, it's definitely up there in terms of service. The rolls were a bit rice-heavy, but overall a solid place to get some sushi if you are craving it and you're downtown. Someone next to us got ramen, and it, too, looked pretty decent. Cute little sushi restaurant located near downtown. Great selection of Japanese cuisine on the menu. The staff was very kind, but there was only one person on the wait staff. With only a half filled restaurant, our waitress was running around trying to fill everyone's orders. The veggie tempura was very good. The sushi and sashimi combos were good, but not as fresh as we've had at other places. The cost is pretty reasonable considering the small size of the portions. My favorite sushi place in Bellingham! The restaurant itself is tiny, but for a good reason. Almost every time I've gone in, the owner is the person making the sushi. He is super kind and welcoming, and always makes sure that everything is tasty! I've gotten the salmon bento box and multiple rolls here and the descriptions fit perfectly and the rolls are filling! I always eat with my eyes so two rolls are always too much for me haha. The prices are decent, the sushi is always fresh, and the staff are very kind and polite! It took a second visit to Jun Sushi to be sure it's a great place for sushi. I arrived on a drippy Friday night and was quickly passed by Jun, The chef and owner heading out the door. Kind of an ominous sign, if you ask me! The waitress told me I could choose where to sit, so I had a seat next to another table that had just been seated. The dining room is very small and seating is limited, but was never full. When my dining companion joined me we placed our order right after the table next to us, our appetizers came fairly quickly. The vegetable tempura was piping hot and pretty tasty , but definitely not an entrée size. We also had the house salad which was very nicely done, a great way to add vegetables to a sushi meal. The table next to us received all of their food a good 20 minutes before we received our entrées, it seemed like longer. But when our food arrived it was all very good and nicely presented. I noticed a sign on the wall for spicy kimchi, So I placed an order. The waitress seemed surprised. When it arrived it was a significant portion, far more than I would normally eat. We shared it and again, the waitress was surprised that we polished it off. It was good kimchi but not the best I've had. The sushi rolls, including a dynamite roll, and a California roll were good. The dynamite roll had sauces on it, which we are not fans of. Plus the roll was fairly large and fell apart when you tried to pick it up and get it in your mouth. The pieces of sushi with rice were good but the amount of rice was relatively small for the cut of fish. All the fish seemed fresh and was nicely presented and well prepared. The waitress was very busy. In spite of it being a small dining room, having only one waitress is not quite enough when many of the tables are seated. This is an intimate little sushi shop, just off the sidewalk but not exactly in a prominent location. It feels like you're in a hidden little place when you visit. I'm only giving it four stars because of its menu items, all very fresh, large portions and the sushi chef was a gentleman with great hospitality. Got left with a bad taste in my mouth in my last visit. I had been going to Jun every few months since they opened. Great sushi, slower service but not bad if you aren't in a hurry. As there is usually just one server and one sushi chef on. On my last visit however, I was informed that I had failed to pay on a previous visit. This did not sound like something I would do, so I enquired further. I was told that my card had been declined and I had paid with a check that had not cleared. I again apologized and said that I always have my debit card, had never had an issue there and that I do not pay with checks. Also, at the time of this conversation I had been offering my debit card for payment- which had my name printed on it. In the case of a declined check or payment, I would assume the business would have kept the customer's name in case of future incidents. They finally accepted my card, and I assume they checked the name against their dine and dasher, and they did apologize. But the whole experience left me not feeling too great. I understand that things happen, but I would suggest verifying your facts before accusing a regular customer- or anyone. And I do not think I will feel comfortable returning there anytime soon after this experience read more

Made a reservation at 12:30, for 5 on a holiday weekend. Got there and they gave away our table to a party of two (we were 4). They could have made up for this time and time again but kept on making it worse. 1) Gave away our table, could have asked the people they just sat down to move to the bar, did not. 2) Made us wait 1hr for the VERY SAME TABLE, only to tell us, sorry the kitchen staff has been reduced to 1 person on a HOLIDAY WEEKEND. and the wait time would now be 1.5hrs for sushi!!!? 3) Wait staff HORRIBLE communicators, no attempt to resolve or correct THEIR ERROR. 4) Could have told us 1hr earlier they KNEW this kitchen issue was going to happen, saw us waiting and still said nothing. 5) No apologies for their ATROCIOUS customer service. Our second time here. The sushi and Udon were very high quality. The Ramen was good, but not the best because the curly thin ramen noodles don't do it for me. However, it still had excellent flavor. The waiter accidentally spilled some Ramen on my wife's shoes. He was super apologetic and made things right after that. His actions afterwards were how a high-class restaurant should do things when all doesn't go as planned. I've frequented Jun's since he opened and have always enjoyed his sushi! This is the 2nd time I've purchaserd a Family Party sushi platter and are almost 50 pieces of yummyness! This first time I took it to my daughter's house and fed 6 peoples with a few pieces left over. The food is really fresh, the location is good and the options are pretty varied. The cons are that a large majority of the food all tastes the same (which is pretty hard to do with sushi) and the pricing doesnt match the lack of flavor. "Meh" pretty much sums it up. While the rolls had flavor, the majority of the rolls on the menu were simply slight variations on a California Roll (I.E..."California Roll with Spicy crab on top") so there was very little to be impressed by as far as creativity goes. When I got there I was told to sit where I like, I sat outside and was given a menu. 2 minutes later I'm brought a glass of water....no ice not cold....ummm OK, that's weird. I am one to need my beverages ICE cold so I asked for ice. The waitress was new and said she would check if they had ice....she returned to tell me they have no ice but the drink was "ice water". NOOOO, what I was provided was lukewarm tap water....NOT "ice water". Seriously what kind of restaurant has NO ICE?!?! That alone is enough for me to not ever go back. read more

Some of the sushi did have an unusual fishy taste to it, so I did question the cleanliness of the kitchen. The rolls aren't bad, but again, not fantastic either. They decorate their rolls with pretty colors, but the taste isn't very good overall. Too much mayo. The ambiance and service was good. It's a small place with Korean chefs and waitresses. Our waitress was very friendly, and we got our food fairly quickly. Overall, this restaurant is average. I've been meaning to leave a review here for awhile now. I just want to say that this sushi bar is the best in town. My boyfriend and I discovered over a year ago and this is the only place we get sushi. The owner Jun is the cook and he is so sweet. He is always is working so hard to make sure your sushi comes out delicious. Its usually him, another cook, and the waitress. The place is fairly small, they do have an outside seating area but a lot of people usually eat inside. I do recommend going in around lunch time because its less busy. If you do decide to go for dinner there can be a slight wait but to be honest its so worth it. The food is so so so good! Go! I promise you, you won't regret it! :) read more

If you're looking for a quick bite though this is not the place for you. Good things come to those who wait. The ingredients are always fresh and the sushi is beautiful! Each plate is assembled with care and artistry. Bento boxes, tempura, rolls, nigiri, miso soup, you can't go wrong. Their kimchi is from Tacoma and is hands down the best I've ever had (And believe me I'm always on the hunt). This is now one of my favorite sushi spots. read more

Instant Ramen noodles... First and foremost. Although their staff is super friendly. They were very pushy with taking our order before we could properly evaluate the menu. So after ordering the ramen, we saw their chef open up instant ramen packs. Giving them the benefit of the doubt, we stayed to see how it turned out. The sushi was serviceable. Which gave them the extra star. But otherwise, paying $10 for instant ramen with some toppings obviously isn't worth it. If we do come back, may try the udon or a takeout bento. read more
