Ordered some savory hot food and pastries from this bakery for the first time via uber eats. The savory hot food is a no go but the breads are acceptable. Mushroom and chicken boxed rice - lots of chicken bone shards and too little pieces of Chinese sausage slices. Mixed rice noodle with fish ball - the fish ball option was something I requested for over the phone when they notified me one item that I ordered ran out. The fish ball was really tiny and on the harder side. Really not good quality fish balls. The rice noodle was not silky and smooth. The sauce was the worst part. Not enough sauce and too watered down. The flavors that's usually in the sauce were very subtle. Pork floss cheese loaf bread - the slices of bread were thick and fluffy so I was impressed. The pork floss cheese could be better. Not enough pork floss. Sounded better on paper Steamed Custard bun - it was a big bun so I excitedly ripped it apart but I found some weird charcoal color particles in the custard filling when I did that. Not sure what it was but in case it's a dead insect ripped apart, I threw out the whole bun Ham and cheese bun - just ok. I've had better at other bakeries. It was my first time ordering via Uber Eats from this bakery. It could be that it was kind of late in the afternoon, they did not have the fried noodles, so they replaced it with fried rice. The person that called me was very nice when they let me know about the replacement. The fried rice tasted hard. The curry fishballs tasted too watery, and they need more rice in the claypot rice dishes. We enjoyed the dumplings, the tea eggs, and the rice noodles. Love going to June's Bakery especially since they serve such a wide range of Chinese food including dim sum, congee, rice noodles, noodle and rice dishes amongst other delicious options! They also have a ton of baked Chinese breads and pastries. They have super affordable breakfast and lunch sets which I find are super authentic and feel home cooked. It's hard to find food that's both good value and good quality but June's Bakery definitely hits the spot with both! They listen to how you specifically want the cake decorated. Near the cashier area, there is a hot steam table, with dumplings and other such appetizers. Junes Bakery and Café (澳莱), although a recent establishment, seems to have been the first of the "modern" Chinese bakeries to appear along Avenue U in the Homecrest area of Brooklyn. Junes differentiates itself from bakeries before it with a broader selection of baked goods -- croissants in multiple flavors, blueberry bread, vanilla puffs, cranberry cookies, Napoleon cake, etc. Of course, one will also find basic selections of Chinese baked goods, like egg tarts and pineapple buns; breakfasts; and some dim sum. Junes retains the value pricing typical of most Chinese bakeries; it seems to offer 80% of the quality of a top-tier bakery at a commensurate or better discount. Junes' creative variety and low prices makes the bakery an interesting place to browse. Food: Fair (2.5 of 5). - Egg Tart: $1; good. - Portuguese Egg Tart: $1.25 each. This bakery is relatively new in the neighborhood- they took over the old Ka Ka Bakery which my family used to frequent for all sorts of things- milk teas, honey lemon drinks and our all time favorite was their mini red bean buns with pineapple topping, sold in an aluminum container with 6 pieces! Anyway, they renovated the bakery so it does not look as run down as the old bakery which is nice. Its inviting to walk into. They have a good selection of bun options, all individually wrapped. Egg tarts and Portuguese tarts available for purchase here- I prefer the regular egg tarts from them which costs a dollar a piece. They also have hot food in the back and steamed dimsum and buns for purchase. I've tried a variety of stuff from here. Their buns are, in my experience, are pretty soft and good. I particularly like their fong baos and they are only 2.5 a bag. Prices in other shops in the area can be $3 and up so definitely one of the cheaper places for this and it is good as well. Their egg tarts have a good amount of filling in them, making them worth the purchases- I realized that most egg tarts from other bakeries are just overall smaller and they cost 1.25 or more sometimes which is upsetting because most you can eat in a bite! I have yet to try their dimsum and steamed buns but my husband has purchased noodles with fishballs from them. I think this is where they need to improve most. Nothing wrong with fishballs- they're just boiled, but the type of noodles they serve is just not good. They are definitely on the hard side unlike the street carts or other bakeries where their noodles are nice and soft! Purple yam bun has very little filling, its basically all doughy bread, could hardly taste any yam flavor. The milk custard bun, did have a little more filling and tasted sweeter than the other bun. And then I found that the wontons and beef were missing. I called to complain, they said they could give me a new one for free. First I have to say that the chicken buns are out of this world amazing! The only thing is that they may have fried the chicken in the same oil as the fish bun sandwich cause it had a fish taste. The chicken was well cooked crispy chicken tender very fresh and crispy. The sesame buns they use for their chicken and fish sandwiches are fantastic not sure if the make them there but they were soft and light not doughy. All in all the chicken sandwich is fully loaded with fresh fried chicken breast, Fresh lettuce, tomatoes, a slice of yellow American cheese. EVERYTHING is individually wrapped sealed in their shop logo! Most items are self serve the sandwiches and buns are in an very nice warm closed glass display so everything is at warm or room temperature and not open to airborne germs. Far way better and cheeper then McDonald's! The dumplings are great fresh but get them early they sell out fast! Each dumpling is fully loaded with vegetables and meat. You are given a large warm portion in a sealed clear container. The almond buns are SO good lightly sweeten and not doughy at all (makes you feel that you are not eating bread loaded with carbs) a great light desert! The coffee is pretty good too not strong not weak perfect! The only reason why I minus a star is because the man behind the counter! Not sure if he is the owner but the only one that speaks English clearly (my cashier kept asking him what I said in Chinese) when I asked what kind of dumplings were they (pork, seafood?) Also when I asked her for a large coffee with cream and sugar (I didn't get sugar) the man was rather rude and loud with his response! This place is always packed anytime of day. They have a large selection of all kinds of sweets buns, sweet deserts and drinks. Large area seating is allowed, very spacey, nice, immaculately clean and bright light interior. It's a place to sit and have a light breakfast, lunch or a quick grab and go! The prices are very fare. They open super early so they close early. They just need more English speaking employees that are kinder. I do see all nationalities in there even many of NYPDs finest! In final I think this is a great spot near the train station! This bakery has delicious flaky egg tarts! I also tried their rice noodles and dim sum items which were OK. The bean curd roll was pretty good in flavor but could've used a bit more meat in the filling. Rice noodles with fish balls was OK, rice rolls were a bit hard. The steamed rice rolls were solid, nice and soft. Also got the sticky rice which would pass on as it was a bit hard and similarly for the fried rice noodles which were bland. Definitely the top tier of Avenue U's Chinese bakeries. The atmosphere is cozy and the decor is brand new. The buns and sandwiches are always fresh and they put new ones into the display throughout the day.
