I would not recommend this place. The food was a bit bland and didn't meet expectations, especially given the high price for pork/fish katsu and udon without meat (extra $8 for katsu). It feels more tailored to people with higher budget than ours. The ordering process is straightforward but impersonal---you have to order and pay first (either at kiosk or with a cashier), then find your own table and wait for your food. On plus side, the katsu came out crispy and the soup was hot. The katsu (pork or fish) is served with shaved cabbage, miso soup, and optional steamed rice, though some sides come with additional charge. The ambiance is casual, more of a fast-paced, eat-and-go environment rather than a relaxed experience.

Quick and nice service! The food was perfectly crisp and perfectly cooked! We ordered the pork loin and pork tenderloin. Nice casual spot in the area to get super yummy katsu, one of the best katsu spot i've tried in the bay!

Small little place with indoor outdoor seating. You order at the counter kiosk and pay (cashless). Grab your number and they will bring your order to you. The tonkatsu was cooked perfectly,, the potato salad was on the sweet side for me.

4.5 stars $26.52 Angshim Katsu: sizeable and delicious. Juicy cutlets are perfectly cooked. They even have black salt on the table. Given the cost, I expected a one and done. But that will not be the case.

I think they have the best quality katsu in the Bay Area. Lightly breaded and not oily. It's pricy and everything is made to order. Wait times are long, but food is worth the wait. This location is very friendly and attentive, even though you wait to order at the kiosk and they seat you.

We had a really big party come in for friends catching up and the service was pretty great considering how many people were there! The space had very nice indoor seating as well as outdoor seating. I was really happy that the space was able to accommodate a party around 10 people. I've heard really good things about the spot, so I was excited to try it. They had both a tablet ordering system and counter order as well. The pork katsu was fantastic and the portion was awesome! My katsu came with fresh cabbage, katsu sauce, and miso soup. I was very happy with the quality of food too! I would highly recommend a visit if you're craving katsu

"I'll go inside to order, what do you want?" "Udon." "Uhhhh, we're at a katsu place." "Ok, I'll take an udon and katsu." "You want two entrees?!" "Yea, and? You said, it's a katsu place. Besides, it's your turn to pay!" Big back activities aside, don't sleep on the udon....it's excellent but more on that later. Jungdon Katsu is a family-owned business that's been hailed as serving the best katsu in the bay. They started as ghost kitchen during the pandemic. In 2024, they opened a brick and mortar in Danville but sadly closed in October 2025 due to a devastating fire. Thankfully, they were able to find a new brick and mortar space in Emeryville and opened in late November 2025. Open for takeout, delivery, indoor dining, and patio dining. We visited on a Sunday evening before they were featured in SF Chronicle so it wasn't busy. Things have changed so expect a wait during peak hours. Order at the kiosk, take a number placard, seat yourself, and your food + water will be brought to you. M E N U Specialty: Katsu, fried cutlet. Pork, chicken, fish, and cheese available. Sides: Shrimp tempura, fried spam, potato salad, etc. They also serve soba and udon. Beer available. F O O D * Shrimp Tempura (3 pc - $12): https://tinyurl.com/msv2kt2u Instead of wheat flour, they use panko creating a flaky, shatteringly crunchy exterior. The fresh shrimp was tender with a nice firm bite. * Anshim Katsu: Pork Tenderloin Katsu w/ rice, cabbage salad ($24): https://tinyurl.com/4p44j59z - Add side curry (+$7) Nearly flawlessly executed, the golden brown panko crust delivers a satisfyingly light and crackly crunch while the pork is tender and moist. Neither oily nor heavy. You receive two generous cutlets. To nitpick, I wish it had a light pink center. The side curry (veggie based) is rich and comforting with a velvety smoothness and mild sweetness. Served with sticky short grain rice, finely shaven cabbage with a tangy dressing, umami-rich savory sweet katsu sauce, freshly grated wasabi, and pickled daikon. * Kake Udon: Udon noodle w/ katsuo broth ($18): https://tinyurl.com/yjrsxm6u Light, deeply savory skipjack based dashi broth with a subtly smoky note. The udon noodles were slippery with an exceptional bouncy, QQ chew. IMO, it's much better than Udon Mugizo and Muragame Udon. Served with togarashi (chili powder) and kuro shio (black salt) to season to your liking but it was not needed. S E R V I C E Awesome hospitality. The mom runs the BOH and her daughter, Nicky runs the FOH alone. She's super sweet and immediately brought the doggies water. Offered to turn on the heat lamps and checked in multiple times. Prompt food service. A M B I A N C E Modern, minimalist with industrial touches and cute cat paintings throughout. Eight to ten tables inside and three tables in the front patio with heat lamps. Overall, if you're looking for the ultimate Japanese comfort food crafted with fresh ingredients and skilled technique yet wallet-friendly, Jungdon is the place to go.

Pork tenderloin with sides: salad, rice, cucumber - sauce, lemon, wasabi

We came on a whim for a Sunday lunch, and it was perfect timing. Parking is all street (so eating on Sunday is a bigger plus - bc it's free). Greeted by an easy, calm ambience. We were also *luckily* the only customers there - and didn't have to wait, as other reviews have stated. It's all self serve : ordering on a tablet, grabbing utensils, napkins. The one server we saw was helpful, attentive, and very sweet. We tried the pork tenderloin and chicken Katsu - the breading itself is spectacular, along with overall plating and sides. PLEASE put the black (salt?) that's on the table on the Katsu. Totally enhanced the flavor. I'd definitely come back to try other plates in the future. Each plate of Katsu is $24, which at first glance, seems "a lot." But the sides, quality and freshness of food makes it worth it. Glad we can have a place like this in the neighborhood. Definitely a hidden gem you don't have to go far for - and we look forward to coming back!!!

If you're a katsu fan, Jungdon Katsu absolutely delivers. We ordered a spread so we could try a little of everything, and the first thing that stood out was the batter. It's not overly crunchy or hard like some places -- it's soft, light, and flaky with that delicate crisp that shatters gently when you bite into it. It doesn't overpower the meat, which I really appreciated. The clear winner for me was the Anshim katsu (pork tenderloin). Perfectly cooked, super tender, and juicy without being greasy. Every slice was consistent, and it honestly didn't even need much sauce. The chicken katsu was delicious as well. Juicy, flavorful, and just as well-executed as the pork, but would come in as a second place contender. We also tried the cheese katsu (pork tenderloin stuffed with cheese). It was good and definitely worth trying once as the cheese adds a layer of creaminess. The cheese pull is fun but the portion is noticeably smaller. Personally, I'd stick with the regular Anshim next time. I liked it so much that we ended up ordering takeout to enjoy it again later -- and it still held up surprisingly well. Service was warm and friendly, which made the whole experience even better. Just a heads up: they don't take reservations, and seating is limited, so expect a wait during peak times. Overall, this is definitely one of the better katsu spots I've had in the Bay. I'll be back for that Anshim and will try the fish katsu as well!

What a great find in Emeryville! Jungdon is tucked into a commercial space of an apartment complex. You order via a tablet no matter if you are dining in or ordering takeout. If you are dining in, you can select whatever table you would like to sit at, and they bring you water, utensils, and napkins. It was not busy at all for a Monday night, so the anshim katsu set came out very quickly. The pork was so great! I love this style of katsu, as the meat was juicy and not dry, and the breading was not overpowering. The katsu came with a bowl of rice and cabbage salad, which had a nice, light dressing. I would definitely come back to try their other sets as I was thoroughly impressed with the anshim! This is a great find in Emeryville. I recommend to those who are looking for more spots to eat in the East Bay. This casual spot is truly a hidden gem!

I got their chicken katsu and parts of it were uncooked. I let my server know about it and the kitchen never came to check on it so I came here for people to realize what a health hazard it is. It's a summer of 2026 and with so many viruses going around, it is essential that food establishments should take utmost care for public safety. Hope they tidy up their act. 1 star and I hope I don't get sick as I am going home from here!! Super disappointing to see there was no follow up or care about what they serve people.

Very solid katsu spot - anshim katsu was juicy and crispy, and I love how it came with wasabi and lemon to cut the richness of the fried dish. The person at the front was so sweet and bubbly. I wish it came with a bit more pickled radish, but overall a very solid meal!

I got bad food poisoning after eating here for dinner and it kept me up all night. I had the chicken katsu, which was also way too oily. While the meat was juicy, all you could taste was the oil. The pork katsu was slightly better, and my wife didn't feel sick from it, but it was still too oily. Kind of tastes like old oil or overcrowded frying. Maybe it was just bad luck for me that day.

Did not get "house made tartar sauce". I ended up trying the katsu sauce but it was just wrong and gross. Im

Hi Joyce! Does the cabbage salad still come with the creamy light yellow dressing? It always has but last week it did not (with our chicken katsu orders) so I would like to order it as an extra item on the side if it no longer comes with it.

If you like sweet creamy dressing than cabbage dressing, just mention when you order. We will give you creamy dressing with your order. Thanks.

Do you some seating? For like one, or two people?

Unfortunately at this time, our space is only a kitchen and we only provide takeout-no dining. Thank you for your patronage!

Does the restaurant do curbside pick up? How is the parking here?

Street parking is available. Curbside pick up is not available. Sorry.. This is cloud kitchen facility so there’s is locker for the order for pick up. Thanks.

I had to look it up, and once I realized it was basically the chicken equivalent of rich, fatty oxtail-style meat, I knew I had to try it. Holy hell, it was easily the best chicken skewer I've ever had. I would honestly come back just to order multiple of these. The squid ink rice was incredibly savory and filling, and paired with a few beers, this made for such a great evening out. All in all, Ippuku is a must-visit in Berkeley if you're into izakayas.

The ambience was intimate and cozy yet elegant, and the staff was very attentive and kind. I loved the decorations, the plates and silverware, and the food was just as intentional in flavor and selection. For appetizers we had: Anchovy Stuffed Olives Tempura - Tempura Spanish alives stuffed with anchovies $9 Kombu Tsukudani - Premium Hokkaldo kelp, say sauce, bonito, shiso, sesame seeds, enjoy with sake or rice $6 For our meal we had: Saba Bouzushi - House-cured saba mackerel bouzushi - stick-shaped sushi, also called battera, served with shiso, sesame, scallions, topped with Hokkaido shiraita kombu, ten pieces $29 Gindara Yuanyaki - Local black cod marinated in soy sauce and shikuwasa Okinawan citrus juice served grilled $34 Steelhead Trout Nabe - Norwegian ocean trout raised sustainably in the clear, cold ford where the seawater meets fresh meltwater from the glaciers in the mountains. Enjoy the rich flavored, melt-in-your-mouth fish, hotpot with dashi broth, mushrooms, napa cabbage, burdock, clear noodles, tofu, mizuna, scallions, yuzu kosho $39 We've been to many izakaya spots and this place had some of the most unique flavors I've tasted. The Saba Bouzushi stood out to me because it reminded of Filipino paksiw but as a roll! The Gindara was buttery and soft and had a yummy smoky flavor. The Nabe was perfect for a rainy evening - hearty, fresh, and so well balanced in flavor (I loved the yuzu kosho the had us add for a citrusy, peppery flavor)
