Geta is our top stop for Japanese and we are regulars here. My daughter has recently become a hamachi connoisseur and she always wants to come to Geta for the hamachi sashimi combo. We also like the tempura soba, chicken katsu curry rice, and gyoza. We used to get a lot of takeout from Geta. Now we more often eat in. Both are great options so long as you're a party of 4 or fewer.

Everything was incredibly fresh and delicious the salmon practically melted, and the edamame was perfect. Chloe was especially kind and made the experience feel really welcoming. She even surprised me with a bit of ikura, which was amazing. I'll definitely be back.

Lovely little sushi spot in Piedmont Ave. The omakase option is gone now (they just removed that from menu ~2 changes ago). Their kaki fry also changed :( they're smaller now but you get an extra piece. Overall, good experience. Their nigiri deluxe sampler was just like the memory. The staff were very nice and polite to everyone too. One thing I do want to note is that there's a price adjustment. I don't recall it being disclosed anywhere in the menu though.

Tasty, well priced sushi! It's a small spot so best to dine in solo or with a small party. My fav is the crunchy California, classic American style role that's super addicting! I would usually just go with the simple rolls as the specialities tend to be more pricey and I don't personally feel they're much better than the simple ones. The nigiri may be a different story but haven't tried it in years. Maybe I need to experiment a bit more next time. Hope this spot never changes!

Geta is my favorite neighborhood sushi location. Their food always comes out quickly, they have a great selection, and everything I've eaten here is delicious. I'm particularly fond of their tempura; I think they always get the batter just right. I like that they serve hot tea and you can get refills on the tea. I think the way they display their specials, with little laminated cartoon, is adorable. Those little cartoon specials always tempt me into ordering one more thing than I intend.

Always good to the last drop of rice! Been coming for years and will continue to do so as long as Kosuke sensei is behind the knife!

I came here for dinner after the wait at another Japanese restaurant in the area had a 1.5 hr wait. We were seated right away! The place is tiny so you have to get lucky to get a table. We got the tempura soba, spicy meat udon, and some sushi rolls.

To be perfectly honest, before my first visit here, Geta had been on my radar for so long that I actually wasn't sure what I was more excited about - finally getting to check out their food for myself or being able to strike them off my list of places to try! After having more than a few friends recommend, and after having seen them pop up in my Yelp feed seemingly every few months, it's almost like having a constant reminder that I needed to check them out. Given that, it's safe to say I was more than a little relieved that they didn't manage to disappoint! Now, when my friend forewarned me before coming here that getting a table might be tough, I didn't realize it was because of how small this place is! With just a handful of counter seats and even fewer tables, Geta can definitely fill up quickly. Despite their small stature though, the menu is surprisingly large, with a good variety of offerings, ranging from small plates, bento boxes, and udon to an interesting mix of donburis, sushi rolls, and nigiri. More importantly though, not only did everything sound good on the menu, but just about everything looked even better in all of the photos that I was able to scroll through before it came time to order! Some things looked so good, in fact, that I practically made myself come back a second time before writing this! -- ANKIMO - Monkfish Liver...$14 (https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/geta-oakland?select=QQOvUCs4-0zMFLFqIzEyMw) I'm sure the fact I haven't had ankimo in ages had something to do with it, but this was terrific! The portion was generous, the ankimo has luscious, and the dish, as a whole, was just so flavorful. Would absolutely definitely get this again. -- SALMON BELLY NIGIRI - Fresh Salmon Nigiri...$9 (https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/geta-oakland?select=bKype6cGWJRr9jAjeK6JVg) I love salmon, so I'm extremely biased, but this was fantastic! The cuts were both fresh and generous and not overly fatty either. Most importantly, they were just straight up delicious! -- KATSU CURRY RICE - Fried Pork Cutlet with Curry Rice...$20.50 (https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/geta-oakland?select=y2EiAJ201BLXgMr8mRY8vw) More solid than spectacular, but no less satisfying. The katsu was crispy, the pork itself was juicy, and there was a fair amount of veggies. As for the curry, it was good, but I wish it had a bit more punch and a thicker consistency. -- MISO SOUP...$0 (came with the Katsu Curry Rice) (https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/geta-oakland?select=_0A546ry55BOUZJVDhu_WA) I wouldn't normally detail miso soup, but this one was really, really good! It looks different than your generic miso soup, but in a good way, as it has a nice miso flavor to it and was filled with more than your generic bits of tofu, green onion, and seaweed. -- NIGIRI SAMPLER - Maguro, Sake, Hamachi, White Tuna, Ebi Tako, Ika, Tsubugai, Tamago, Inari...$34 (https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/geta-oakland?select=NcgDgjaJ7flqJ29L4peYfQ) Fairly standard, in both good and bad ways. The assortment of fish is somewhat basic, but the taste and quality is pretty solid. Of the bunch, the hamachi and salmon were my favorites, but I wouldn't say anything fell short. That said, I can't help but wonder if I should've tried the Deluxe Nigiri Sampler instead. -- KANPACHI NIGIRI - Fresh Amberjack Nigiri...$12 (https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/geta-oakland?select=cVi9-LtYfNbi6-0FmfmoQQ) This was a last second add based on the server's recommendation and it wasn't too shabby! I'm not the biggest fan of amberjack, but this was one of the better ones I've had. Still, I think I'd rather save a few bucks and get the sake belly again. While most of what I've tried here has been good, the best part of my meals at Geta has actually been the service. Across both of my trips here, the staff has been super warm and friendly. They were more than happy to answer questions about the menu and were really helpful with some of their recommendations. If I was out here more often, and if they were possibly just a smidge cheaper for some things, it's more likely than not that Geta would be one of my go-to spots for sushi. However, since they're on this side of the Bay, I guess they'll just have to settle for being my go-to for sushi whenever I'm around Piedmont.

Always wanted to try Geta and finally got to do it during Thanksgiving break yay! Cute and very small and cozy place. Only few tables so come prepared for the scene :) I did not as I came with my child and stroller hahaha but we made it yay!!! Staff is friendly and food comes out quick! I love the cozy feelings you get inside and the kitchen is right there making their magic happening. Loved sharing the miso soup, mackerel and salmon Nigiris, negihama and unagi rolls. The warm light sake was delicious as well. Generous portions of fish, fresh and great prices. Would come back again with my husband or a friend!

I haven't been here in a few years. I ordered the chicken teriyaki with shrimp tempura. Two of them were $47. Wow! Prices have really gone up. I enjoyed the food. The shrimp tempura could have been cooked longer. It was done, but the batter was whitish. The portion sizes were smaller as well. I should have taken a photo. The chicken had a lot of fat on it. I probably won't return again for a while, but I enjoyed stopping by for a bit.

Nestled at the corner of 41st street, the infamous pint-sized Geta serves up decent sushi at affordable prices (for Bay Area standards). My friend and I came just before 6 and got seated almost immediately. Do keep in mind that they require the whole party's presence before seating you, but such is expected when the restaurant literally has just four tables. We split a Karaage don, rainbow roll, and agedashi tofu to share. All of which were great! Albeit far from the best I've ever had but definitely won't leave you disappointed. The roll came double layered with fresh fish atop and almost bursted at the seaweed seams with crab salad. The Karaage Don was incredibly decadent, leaving my friend and I with ample leftovers. When the bill arrived, we were shell-shocked upon seeing the total price and just ogled the low number for minutes. I could wax poetic about the food's quality and price all day. The restaurant's eccentric decor includes cute Japanese stickers showcasing the daily specials which is a nice touch. Next time, my friend and I will probably share two rolls and maybe a special. I get the hype now. Though the price looks standard on its face, the portions are huge without the sacrifice of quality.

Geta is perfect for groups of 2-4. The most genuine Japanese restaurant in the bay. Japanese music in the background. Food is fresh and service is fast. It is not a place to lounge around and be loud. Always 10/10 at geta!

The rolls are visually appealing and very appetizing. They held together nicely, although the spicy scallop roll was falling apart - however I do think scallop is trickier to work with so I didn't mind it. The bento boxes offered a great quantity of food for the price, so it was worth it! What stood out to me was the crisp texture of the tempura and katsu - only callout here is that the katsu was cut into thinner slices which you might not prefer if you like thicker slices. Server came up to me and ask "what would you like to order?" I've never been there before. No "hi my name is ... I'll be your server" nada. They're just a machine - people in people out. The ramen - broth was fine. The squiggly noodles aren't my favorite. Expected to have kernel corn but had corn ribs instead (good thing I'm good with chopsticks!) The charshu was just okay. Enoki topping was just ... aight. The nice touch was that they didn't put it in the ramen and served it on the side to preserve its crunchiness because it definitely needed the texture! It was loud, busy, and nothing spectacular about the dining scene here. $55 dollars later (ramen, 2 additional toppings, one box of sake) ... I sadly don't think it was worth it.
