Costed $350 for 3 adults and 1 child because they made us purchase additional adult ticket because the kids were doing the lemur thing. Not worth it. They stink and pee on you. Than they want to rip you off more with pictures. They need to lower their prices substantially or people are just gonna get smart and stay away. I was looking forward to coming here for the longest time. It always looks so nice from the outside. I've had a few work events at the banquet halls and have been dying to come inside the park. The day finally came and I'm honestly so disappointed. First off, $52 per person to enter is ludicrous for what you're actually getting. I got a Groupon and luckily didn't pay full price, but if I did, I would be livid. A big portion of the park was closed off, not sure why, but it sucks if you've never been here, missing a big part of the park. A lot of the employees here seemed like they didn't want to be here which is a complete shame, considering we're in a place full of tourists and families happy to be here. The "Adventure Bay" is a complete joke. A bunch of blow-up stuff and trailers. Oh yeah and "the only zip-line in Miami" is also a trailer and the shortest zip line I've ever seen. Playgrounds have longer ones. If I wanted to go to a place with a bunch of blow up, trailer attractions I would've rather gone to the fair, it's cheaper anyways. However, one pro I'll give about this place are the employees working with the animals. They're very sweet and seem very happy to be doing their jobs, also great with kids. We saw a few shows and those were also the highlight of the park. Looks-wise, the park looks great. Lots of trees and animals everywhere. Will I ever come back? Probably not. I did hear they were going to remodel this place and add a bunch of stuff so maybe I'll come by when that's finished. But the tickets will probably cost double at that point... read more

We brought our daughter to Jungle Island for her 10th birthday. We paid a lot of money for not only the entrance fee but for 3 IFlies. While walking around my daughter wanted to do the activities but was told she wasn't allowed to because she had flip flops on. No employee could tell me if this information about specific footwear was on the website and when I called prior to our visit, it was NOT mentioned. It's 90 degrees in miami so I didn't think flip flops would be a problem, so after spending $350 my daughter couldn't do the activities and NO ONE helped or offered anything to us. This is my 2nd time receiving awful customer service at this place so I won't be returning. read more

I have always been an animal lover, I have been to many sanctuaries where they rescue battered animals and give them a better life that is how they deserve it. Last Sunday I had the unfortunate opportunity to visit Jungle Island in Miami, FL, I was horrified to see the negligent way they have the animals in this place. To begin with, the space in which they have their different species is limited and in dark cages. They have two of the tigers in a small place with no grass, only dirt; Although nothing compared to the cement cage in which they have two other tigers next to one lion lonely and boring, all of them without any kind of entertainment or activity. Also, they have two beautiful orangutans in a cage with a weird shape, without much space. I was in that horrible place only 1/2 an hour, it was enough to spend the rest of the day sad. I do not understand how any association that protects the animals in Miami-Dade County has not intervened. I really hate that place and do not recommend it to anyone, it is not suitable for people who love and care about the welfare of animals. read more

Very pretty gardens. Definitely a tourist trap due to the price. Not worth the $50 entrance. We went with Groupons and at $25 each I thought this was still a little high. The park can be walked and enjoyed in about 2 hours. They also have zip lining and some other activities included with general admission which is nice. What I found most disturbing was the staff's lack of knowledge in relation to food allergies. I was going to order some lunch and the cashier and those working behind the counter had no idea if the food offered was fried/cooked with peanut oil or had any cross contamination. From my experience, most restaurants, especially places where there are kids, know of allergens in their food or know where to get the nutritional information. But these people knew nothing. Their answer was an unsure yes. This didn't sit right with me so we ended up not ordering any food. The problem was not that we were not able to order, but the lack of knowledge about allergens in a restaurant setting. Will not be returning, not worth the entrance fee. read more

So I took my little one here and had the best day ever! I've never been a fan of birds for the most part because they're really loud and they can fly and always feel like they can mess me up like that movie "the birds" lol but the birds here seem to really take to me! It was pretty amazing! And let's not forget they are everything else including monkeys gorillas lions, turtles, goats, ducks, and anything else you can think of. I mean aside from big ones like giraffes and stuff LOL. We were able to stay here for quite a few hours and I definitely felt like I got my moneys worth. Plus I was able to find a coupon online for kids under five years old so they can come in for free. So I really only had to pay for my ticket. I would make a point to go there on a day that it's not a scolding 90° day because you're outside for the most part but if you minutes to go there on a 70 to 80° day it'll be a blast! They also have a lot of things for adults including stuff by the water and they also have like free flying stuff where you're kind of floating in this tube thing like your skydiving. Not sure why there are so many good reviews for this place! But I've noticed that most of them are for the over priced animal encounters. I'm a Miami native and Denver transplant, who came to over to visit and I was appalled to see what had happened to this place! Most of what was once a crowded tourist attraction has downsized to a small area where you can see fences and bulldozed structures. There were once tigers and they have all gone, they even had a liger once! The penguins, the orangutans, and the alligators are gone too, they once had an alligator as long as a school bus! And there were 6 - 7 shows a day in three different arenas and now there's only one twice a day. The aviary has been closed down too. You can do the park in less than an hour unless you do the treetop climbing gym or an animal encounter. All of course extra! It's $25 to get in, way over priced for what it is. And on top of that you have to pay $15 to park. It's all a complete rip off. read more

Great exhibits and friendly staff. Loved how the birds had free range and were not caged. The bird show was very impressive. Loved being able to hold the macaws when you first walk in. There is a large map when you first walk in- and they have all kinds of animals. From orangutans, birds, alligators, to crocodiles, there was always something to do. I went to Jungle Island today to do the Lemur encounter! It was TOTALLY 500% better than I expected! They are soooo soft and fluffy! My kitty is heavier than they are! It was sooo awesome to see them in their own surroundings! Playing, jumping, just literally hanging around! I did not expect them to just come and sit on my lap! And they did! They even peed on me. I guess they felt comfortable w/ me enough to do that. Haha. The place is just BEAUTIFUL! THEYtake such good care of the place! You really feel like you are in a tropical oasis! The animals really looked sooo happy and very well cared for. They all were jumping and playing w/ each other, mingling w/ each other talking to each other not just moping around! They were soo fascinated when we walked up to their habitats. They are very very curious creatures! Very very inquisitive! Very very smart! They were fascinated w/ tge zippers of my fanny pack and what was inside my bag! It was really really funny. The animal keeper was very informative. I wish there was more time though. I was in a really big group. There were 11 of us.You could tell the staff really really LOVE their jobs! They were so sweet w/ me! The photographer was AMAZING! SHE did a FANTASTIC job! She was soo patient and took pics of everyone! Great job to all the staff! I will definitely be back! I am NOT from Florida! I am sooo glad I found this treasured jem! Sooo disappointed that I could not do the inclusive tour. Bc you need 2 people to do that. The only thing I think that I would change is I wish you can spend more time in the park. This place was a joke plan and simple cut tot the chase. Most of the exhibits appeared to be closed. What was open was pathetic unless your a hard core bird lover. It took over 45 minutes to get an order of fries and a sandwich and we were the only ones ordering. When I asked what was taking so long they explained that they didn't have the correct roll for the sandwich and had to go get a baguette. RIDICULOUS!!! Avoid this place at all cost. I will ask the park manager for a full refund. Oh yes luckily for me I speak espanol because many of the workers DO NOT. I had a great time, but I'm pretty sure that was my own doing. The short version: Worth seeing once but you get nickled and dimed at every turn. The longer version: Admission is $30 and parking is $7. Um, what? Yeah, so just to get through the front gate, you've spent $37 and you haven't even seen anything yet. Then you see some stuff. But if you want to see the stuff without squinting between bars and crates, you have to, you guessed it, pay some more. When you first walk in, there's a slew of beautiful, colorful parrots awaiting your entrance. There's a couple of staff members standing with them and you're immediately whisked away for a photograph, whether or not you want it. Then you walk through a narrow walkway that's lined with approachable but hungry parrots. There's food available for purchase to silence the parrots and provide a closer encounter. There's a petting zoo with the usual suspects: llama, sheep, goats. There were pigs, too, but the swine flu has destroyed all their petting zoo cred. They stayed in the shadows. I got into a bit of a tussle with a goat. He kept trying to eat my dress. I kind of found it endearing after a while, though. There were adorable wallabies. $5 if you want to see them from the other side of the fence. They give you some food you can feed them [wallabies are even cuter when they're eating]. Then you'll be rushed by the staff because "it's supposed to be quick." I didn't know I was euthanizing the poor things, jesus. I ignored the rude, hurrying staff and named a couple of wallabies since I don't ever plan on having children. There was a huge, 20" foot crocodile; the largest in captivity in North America. I feared for the poor little turtle they kept in the same enclosure. I bet he suffers massive anxiety. The monkeys were cute and are usually my favorite animal but they must spike their water with diuretics. I saw them mischievously pee and point at least 3 times while I was there. They're considerably less cute when sprouting a leak. We went to a couple of shows. The first was solely to get out of the hot sun and cool off for a second. The show didn't really have a theme, as far as I could tell, because they showed us penguins, a snake, a monkey, a lizard, and a skunk. Um, yeah. The Tale of the Tiger show was a lot better. Then you're given the rare and unique opportunity to take a photo with a Gibbons or the lion cub. For $60. Now, that might seem worth it because you reason, "when else will I have the chance to hold a lion cub up close and stick a bottle in it's mouth and have a great [if not cheesy] new Facebook photo?" But the entire experience lasts only 1.7 seconds. And that's what bothers me about how it's presented: it's not an experience; it's solely a photo op. The entire time, a trainer is trying to keep the cub focused on not eating your face by holding something up for it to distract it [on this day, it was a plastic shopping bag], a photo is hastily taken [few of them are any good], cute but dangerous animal is removed from your lap, and the next person takes your place. Meh. For $60, I want 60 seconds with the creature. All in all, you'll see some cool stuff, especially if you're willing to keep paying for it long after you've paid the pricey admission rate. There's enough variety to keep it interesting and the grounds are well maintained. read more

Honestly this place is a rip off. We paid $50 to get in and mostly all we got to see were birds. I wanted to mainly see the liger but once we got in , one of the employees said that the liger had been sent to North Carolina after the hurricane last year and just hadn't been back. They should notify their customers of that before they purchase tickets! They advertise the liger still being there by advertising that on their yelp page, it's misleading. Other than that, the enclosures for the animals are small and should be bigger. A lot of the sights also seemed to be closed or "in construction." First of all I don't know why people keep comparing this place to Metro Zoo. This is not an accredited zoo. It is a private collection handled for the sole purpose of collecting your money. Do your research people. Ok, everyone knows this place is a total ripoff. The people at the front desk try to up-sell you to multiple different confusing "animal encounter" packages. They seemed super flustered and overwhelmed by the whopping three people in the lobby. The park itself is well maintained and beautiful, but that's about all there is to it. We were immediately off-put by many of the small enclosures. The baboons looked pretty stressed out and just neurotically paced their platform. No toys/enrichment of any kind present. The perched parrots throughout the paths of the park seem content, although many of them were quite unfriendly. Added a nice touch to the trails. However, when walking through the numerous parrot/bird cages things got really sad. Some of the birds looked sick. Like really sick. Crusty eyes/nares and some of them even had poop/diarrhea on their own tail feathers. Just seemingly unhealthy birds. These birds were all kept in open air cages way too close to each other. Many enclosures didn't have any type of signage. Just a cage with a poor solitary bird. No breed recognition, no fun facts, no information at all. Some of them were straight up aggressive and would try to bite through the cage wires and there wasn't even a warning sign!! What's worse, some birds had signs that said not to feed them since they're on special diets. One foot to the right is a feed dispenser with the regular kibble. Come on, of course someone is going to feed that bird. It's confusing and not fair to the animal. The most upsetting part of the whole experience is the fact that most of these birds are highly intelligent species and they are alone in their cage with nothing more than a bowl of sewage colored water and bird kibble. Two perches, not a single toy. No enrichment of any kind - no varied diets between any of the species. They seem to all be treated like items on a shelf, without any actual care for them as individuals. Some of the cockatoos displayed neurotic behaviors, some even had poor feathering from plucking their own feathers out. Heartbreaking. The primates look bored, as do the big cats. Pretty small enclosures throughout. The white lion "den" was beyond pathetic. Those cats must be dying of boredom. It's quite clear this place is nothing more than a tourist trap that's most certainly losing money and struggling to stay afloat. All at the expense of the poor animals. There's a lot of wasted space throughout the park and not a lot of diversity among the collection. This place needs new ownership, or they should just cut their losses and place the animals in their collection into real zoos or sanctuaries. Not this money making FAILURE. read more

I cannot say enough good things about this place. I grew up going to the Bronx Zoo. It's massive and you need a half a day at least to conquer it and feel like you've seen it all. We went to Jungle Island on Saint Patrick's Day, a trick I learned a little while ago. Visit a park on a holiday or the day after a "traditional" drinking holiday, and the place is empty. This was no exception. It was a ghost town when we got there. AMAZING. We even re-visited some of the exhibits. There are over a hundred macaws on the property, which was beautiful to see. Multiple species of creatures. A leucistic alligator. Marmosets. Multiple species of birds. Tigers and lions (which I'll admit made me sad to see them on such a small property, but they seemed happily napping in the shade. Not that it makes it ANY better, but I have seen smaller and dirtier zoos. They seem to do what they can here, and do it pretty well) A lake for flamingos (beautiful to see up close). Wild iguanas that walk everywhere. A playground and a beach (!!) as well as periodic shows throughout the day. Interesting fact: Turns out they relocated to their current location in 2005, where only the banyan trees were on the property. All of the fauna was imported, relocated from the original Jungle Island, or planted brand new when they moved. The place is impressive, but when you realize the trees have only been there 11 years is outstanding. One of my favorite tips to share that I quickly realized is that there are penguins down in the amphitheater with a guide right there with them. It's not a hands on exhibit, but we went down there and talked to the guide for a good 20 minutes before someone else even showed up. It felt like a private tour. The guide even mentioned that no one comes down the steps because they think it's a set up for a show that hasn't started yet or that costs money (which isn't a surprise, because they do offer a lot of hands on experiences for additional fees). Another reason things felt so private was the one on one time the guides are willing to spend with you answering questions. Everyone was so knowledgeable, and let you know the limits right off the bat. This was especially important to know with the kangaroos. You are able to come into the caged area with them, but you are quickly told to not chase them or go in their shaded area near their den or they become hostile. I've never been so close to so many animals in my life. The most amazing thing that happened here, and maybe will happen to me all year, was the Lemur Experience. Yes, it is expensive. No, I have never smiled so hard in my entire life. It was ABSOLUTELY worth it. I get misty every single time I think about it. We got to spend time with 5 young lemurs, and our guide was so knowledgeable about them and gave such a great lesson that I didn't even have questions afterwards. The pictures will be treasured forever, as will the memories. (Promise to upload some later) The only thing I regret not asking was if the annual pass (which after buying the admission and the lemur experience was only $10 extra) offered any other bonuses. It would have been worth it in my eyes. I'm a 31 year old woman who felt 10 years old in this place. This was my Disney. read more

Not exactly a zoo: we saw lots of beautiful and colorful parrots, parakeets and cockatoos. There was a petting zoo with mostly goats and a couple of sheep. The cool fun animals were the primates. Monkeys, orangutans, lemurs. One monkey peed and aimed at us. That was exciting. I don't think he liked having his picture taken. The Serpentarium was really cool. (not the snakes) The crocosaurus was fricken rad. Not exactly a beach: there was a beach, but you're not allowed to go in. The hippo water slide that's 3 stories tall is a giant moon bounce slide with a really long garden hose. After you go down, you're done. There's no pool to land in. Not exactly a playground: the playground equipment was the same ones you would find at a public park. There were 2 moonbounces in the same area. We didn't see any of the shows. So, I can't comment on that. We were in and out within 3 hours. Parking is now $7. $108 for a family of 4. Not exactly worth it. read more

Fun, fun, fun! What a fun way to spend some time learning about a fairly wide variety of animals. Okay, so it's not the San Diego Zoo by any means. But if you want a highly interactive, friendly place with plenty of family fun - this is it! Lots of birds (they were formerly Parrot Jungle) but they also have everything from tigers to warthogs to kangaroos. Didn't make it to any of the shows but they have them at various times during the day. We paid extra for the Lemur Experience expecting to just stand next to one while the keeper talked about the species. Instead, we sat in a room with 5 of them while them played around with each other and us too! Fun! Totally worth the extra cost as they jumped around all over us - plenty of petting and feeding as the very friendly and knowledgeable keeper told us about them and answered our questions. The park has a fun, sizable picnic area with a lot of room to play with the kids. Consider getting the annual pass for just $10 more than your single entrance fee. You can even upgrade on your way out as long as it's the same day and it even gets you discounts at other area attractions. Did I mention this place is fun? read more

When you first look at the map of Jungle Island, you automatically think, "Groovy! This place is humungous!" However, after walking around for the first five minutes, you realize that the place is actually quite quaint- a venue you can see all of after walking around for 45 minutes. Wasn't this place larger as a kid? I am not deducting a Yelp star or two for the size of the venue. It's just one of the observations I noticed after my visit to Jungle Island. I came here, went to a few shows, fed a few parrots and exotic birds (stay away from the blue parrot- it has a tendency to bite and peck people, you'll know which one I am talking about), and left with a smile on my face. What I didn't like about this place was that parking cost $10, but I guess that is because they are trying to get money from those with annual passes. But honestly, I think that if it cost an extra $10 to keep this place open, I say, "Collect away!" because this place is a gem. A tourist trap gem, but a gem! If you are tourist with kids (or without) still come here because the birds are beautiful, and it will help you relax. I just call it a tourist trap because I feel that Jungle Island is not a solid representation of Miami. Also, Jungle Island, please reconsider charging $60 for a portrait with an animal. I can't remember the exact presentation or what type of animal the photo charge was for, but after hearing the $60 price tag, I was a bit turned off. Jungle Island- a good place for relaxation with the family. Try and feed the birds. They are beautiful. If you are looking for a healthy meal, go elsewhere because it seemed that the majority of the food court items were reminiscent of what you would find at a ballpark stadium. read more

As soon as we came in, my daughter posed for a picture with a parrot. I stood behind the ropes and took a quick photo of my daughter. He gave her 2 seconds to pose with the bird and seemed annoyed that I took a picture with my own camera (which is allowed) instead of purchasing a $35 park photo! When I posed for my 2 second photo he blocked the cameras and rushed us off. There was no one else waiting for a photo and I asked if I could retake the photo bc It was blocked. He said no and told us we had to move on. $41 per ticket (plus the extra stuff I had to pay for) the employees should be nicer. That ruined our day I will never come back! Pretty sad situation. There were birds filing down their beaks on paint chipped cages trying to escape. There was a bunch of trash in the orangutan cage. There was meat in the jalapeño poppers, which was not advertised or displayed properly, and my girlfriend who is a vegetarian had these. I saw a Lar Gibbon pick up a wrapper in its cage, swing to the top of its cage and eat the piece of trash. Just a poorly run establishment and I feel badly for the animals. read more

We came on a Neighbor Day for discounted admission. Honestly, I thought we would be spending more time here. It wasn't as big as I had thought. The best animals to see were the big cats: lions, tigers, LIGER! I think the early morning or perhaps the Florida heat got to them though, since all they wanted to do was sit in the shade. I feel we would have finished the place in an hour had we not stuck around for all 3 shows, which are an hour apart. Those were actually the best part. Very fun to see the birds and their tricks. Very cute to see animals like lemurs and porcupines. And very cool to see a baby lion, baby tiger, and baby wolf! I have to admit, the hosts for the last show were a bit too much for me that we ended up leaving early. My biggest complaint is that the Island Burger restaurant is located OUTSIDE of the entrance to the park. Re-entry is allowed with your ticket, but it was just an inconvenience to go out for lunch. read more

4 stars for what I paid for, 2 stars if I had paid full price. So it averages a 3. They were having a special "NABOR day" (pronounced neighbor) special during Labor Day weekend and tickets were only $10, AND you could still pay only $10 to upgrade to an annual pass. Admittedly, that was a great deal. I knew, being a 3 day holiday and with the special going on, that it would be crowded. I was thouroughly impressed by how they handled the numbers. The ticket line, though it looked like something out of Disneyworld, moved so fast. They had people working the line, passing out maps, answering questions, explaining and handing out forms for the annual pass... by the time you got to the window you just handed them the money and you were done. There are shows all the time and they are amazing. DON'T MISS THE BIRD SHOW! They have animals that a lot of major city zoos don't have. (like the Liger.) It is compact, so you can see it all without having to walk the entire Miami Metro Zoo, for instance. Plenty of food options. A small beach area, a playground, and a petting zoo where you can bottle feed the animals. All the animals you get to take your picture with (birds, alligators, snakes, skunks, rabits...) HOWEVER, $50 for a cd of pictures? They need to be more reasonable on the pictures. Maybe once, when we come back on a not busy day, and I make sure she takes a pic with ALL of the animals possible, and that ALL of the pics are perfect, will I pay that much for a CD of pictures. But only once. I think the solution is to pay a $2.00 fee at each animal encounter to use your own camera when taking a picture. Also, water fountains, por favor? And I find it ironic that they provide playground shade covers for the petting zoo animals, but not over the actual playground. You know, for the human young ones. They still need to fill in some of the vegation as well. There is a part, between La Playa and the serpentarium, that you can actually see the expressway. I avoided this place for several years based on the "annual pass" admission price and the over abundance of animals located inside. But, my daughter loves animals and I love her, so when the $10 Labor Day deal came around I opened up. I have to say that considering the deal on the holiday weekend that they handled the logistics well. While waiting in line for one of the multiple ticket booths employees, were handing out maps, discussing the park and explaining how you could upgrade the discounted tickets. The facility is nice, the shows are entertaining and the staff is very friendly. One chivalrous gentleman brought over a chair while my wife was changing our little girl into her bathing suit in the Playa area. They are lacking water fountains. And shade over the kiddie playground. The petting farm next adjacent to the playground is covered however. Oh, and since you can't take personal photos at all of the spots were they let hold various animals, they try to charge you $50 for a CD of them in the gift shop. Maybe, maybe, if I was getting off of a cruise and spending only a day in Miami would I spend $50 for a picture of a toddler holding a skunk. On second thought if I only had a day, I'd probably tour all of the spots that Miami Vice was filmed at. All in all, the everybody had fun. And that's the point. We rode an elephant, held snakes and rode Joey Daddy's shoulders through the parrot parade. She had been talking about cows since we visited a farm some months ago. She got to bottle feed feed one in the petting area. Of course she also wanted to milk the baby bull. And despite being deterred by the annual pass price, they cleverly charged an a small $10 fee to upgrade the days discounted price to the yearly ticket, that we sprung for. Also included was admission to Lion Country Safari through the end of October. We planned on going there anyway. So until next September it's "Welcome to the Jungle." read more

I had one of the best zoo experiences ever at little Jungle Island! (although this place can't compare to the size and variety of animals at the San Diego Zoo) Spotting animals at a zoo is usually like playing Where's Waldo, but at Jungle Island I saw more animals awake, active, and up close than I have ever seen at ANY zoo (and I go to a lot of zoos). The admission was typical for a zoo, but still hefty compared to, say, the National Zoo's ($0) - I think it was $27, minus a few bucks w/ a coupon we found online. We went early on a weekend, around 10am, when it's best to spot animals. Once through the gates we were greeted by a gallery of colorful parrots and macaws, each on its own perch and uncaged and unchained. The liger and white tiger both went right up to the edge of the cage and paced back and forth about 5 feet away from me. The gibbons were swinging to and fro with acrobatic feats explosive enough to rival Olympic gymnasts. The baby orangutan (sooo cute, like a wrinkled little old man / E.T.) clung to the wall of the cage, 5 feet from me, and his mom sat right up against the chain link too. The petting zoo was very interactive, and I got to hand-feed and pet a little red kangaroo (feels like a sherpa rug! Unfortunately, I have no pictures of this bc the zoo takes photos and holds them hostage until you paid for them, but I got to pet the 'roos!)! The gigantic crocosaurus actually moved (very scary) and the penguins waddled and played with plastic decoy ducks in the water. Finally, the flamingos as we exited reminded me that I was in Florida. I have seriously never been to a zoo that was so... ALIVE! I'd actually been trying to convince my friend (whose idea it was to go) that we should spend our short time in Miami doing other things, but I'm so glad she changed my mind. Jungle Island definitely left a positive impact on me -- I learned a few things about animals, and it gave me plenty of prime photo ops! read more

One of the best things about Miami is that on a "bad" weather day there is still plenty to do. With the skies overcast and the temperature a chilly for Miami upper 60's we took my three year old son to Jungle Island. After you get over the sticker shock (It cost us about $90 for four of us), Jungle Island is a great place to spend a few hours. Formally Parrot Jungle, Jungle Island has expanded. A petting Zoo, playground, a few different shows and of course Parrots. My son loved feeding the goats and cows their bottles of Milk and laughed as the Birds ate out of his hands. He also loved seeing the Monkeys. Jungle Island is a perfect activity for kids and very different from most anything else they will ever do. read more

Worth-the-heavily-discounted-price-of-admission. Otherwise... There was a fair amount of controversy and hurt feelings when this zoo-but-not-a-zoo moved from its longtime, quaint, 'old Miami feel' location of Pinecrest Gardens to the more tourista Macarthur Causeway. The huge increase in admission and parking prices certainly did not help. Jungle Island seems to have responded with some fairly good discounts (for locals, at least) and this past Labor Day weekend, we tried it out and found it to be a very enjoyable time. It is very clean, well laid out (if you have been to Pinecrest Gardens, it has an eerily similar feel and layout - even the sidewalks have the same curves), and the staff is very friendly and welcoming. The animals seem well cared for and eager to put on a show (check out the monkeys!). But, considering the larger Metrozoo nearby - and Disney, et. al., a few hours drive north - paying full price here is simply not worth it. The Labor Day weekend deal was a killer though - $10 admission or $25 for a year round pass. Normally, admission is $30 and a year round pass is $40, so it was a fairly steep discount. They also have a beautiful picnic and playground area (which can be rented out for parties) and the year round pass will make this a great stop for an outdoor picnic going to or from the beach. read more

Yes... I, too, am saddened still by the fact that Parrot Jungle is no longer in Pinecrest. I, too, am saddened by the ridiculous admission price to pay for all the concrete all over the "park". But I can't hate Jungle Island? You know why? Ligers. Bred for their skills in magic. They're real, and they're right here...at Jungle Island. It is impossible to hate the place where such rare creatures can be seen outside the documentaries of David Attenborough. But make sure you coming during one of the 3 cool months of the year, because these giant 800 lb cats are bound to be a)hiding in the shade, b)boring you just "lion" around the other 9 unbearably hot months. There's another reason I can't hate Jungle Island...Their shows are actually pretty awesome. So there's another star for them. I laugh, I cry, I am amazed. Some of the animals they've got are pretty cool (but don't ask me to list them- I can't remember their names). At times I even found myself considering a career change. Why be a people nurse when you can play around with awesome animals all day and get paid to do it? I'd recommend the following: Go to Jungle Island. Definitely. Jungle Island really sounds like the epitome of tourist trap. My first thought was "Oh, wonderful. A 'zoo' where I have to squeeze through lines of overly-enthused tourists and catch a glimpse of the poor caged animals through the many head infront of me". However, Jungle Island is actually much different than I originally thought. The animals are happy, which is always nice to see when visiting a zoo-like establishment. And it isn't really a zoo, its more of a habitat. The different types of animals they had in captivity there were really amazing, I can't believe there is actually a liger in existence?! And the gigantic crocodile that's something like 20 feet long is really cool. Intimidatingly and unbelievably huge, but cool. Apparently it's the largest one in captivity in North America? But their animal shows were really entertaining, Tale of the Tigers was my favorite, they're just such majestic and powerful cats. I loved it. I saw a ton of really cool colorful birds as well, and besides the persistent squaking I enjoyed getting to see them. The baby red kangaroos were ADORABLE and the petting barn was alright as well, I just get tired of nosy, nudgy, usually stinky goats, llamas, pigs, etc following me around. All in all, a great and educational experience, I think I would even go again. The entrance fee is a little pricey, but I found a ticket for up to $18 off of general admission, so that was reall helpful. (You can find it at www.destinationcoupons.com). This is one of the most cruel zoos I have ever visited. All the animal cages are super small. The poor lions have to hang at a place smaller than an apartment, is simply a crime to have so many beautiful creatures trapped in such conditions. I feel sad for all the people who bring their children here and teach them is ok to torture animals this way. read more

My girlfriend took me here for my birthday to have the "Lemur Experience." It was so much fun. You get a private audience with about six lemurs who run around and cuddle with you for about 45 minutes. I can't recommend the Lemur Experience highly enough. Lemurs rock my world. The Lemur Experience is unforgettable. The park itself is decent, but no big deal. The enclosures for the big cats is kind of small and the animals don't look terribly happy. The animal shows drag on a bit. The aviary is cool and there are so many types of birds. Jungle Island is one of those places you might want to go to once, but honestly, I doubt I'll be back anytime soon unless it's just for the Lemur Experience. read more

I'll start off by saying this was my first time here, and I'll be going again to give the place a second chance. I'll update as needed. First off, the pros: - Clean and well-maintained Park - Animals seem well-cared for - Lots of showtimes for different animal presentations Some Cons: - Lack of Signage: visitors wouldn't know where the heck they are when walking around unless walking by one of the few signs in the park. There are some signs, but it's confusing to know where you are and what's located nearby. - No Park Map: The attendant stated when we were entering the park that one was being made soon. Seems like that would solve concern #1 but honestly, what large park doesn't have a printed map or an electronic option, especially for this park's price point? - Price Point: This place is expensive for what I felt I got. It was $52 for me, and my child was under $3 so he got in free. But for a family of four they would be looking at almost $200 in admission. Whoa. That's just for general admission too, and doesn't include the ancillary attractions (skydiving simulator, escape room, zip line). Parking is an extra $10 on top of that too. - Staff was hit or miss in terms of helpfulness. One helped me figure out how to get around when I stopped to ask. One dropped huge attitude when I sat in the wrong place for a show. This can't really be fixed 100% but I felt like I paid a ton of money so some customer service should be a focal point. Overall, it's a fun place to visit but expensive for what you're getting in return. Jungle Island could fix at least 3/4 of these observations and it would justify the admission price more. read more

My boyfriend and I came here today feeling spontaneous and had a really really great time. The pricing is more than reasonable given the interactive experience this place provides over other zoo-type places. The park is fabulously done, covered in all shaded trees with jungle-like walkways to each exhibit, and beautiful parrots flying freely along the walkways throughout the park. The enclosures aren't really too small for the animals yet you're able to get so up close & personal with almost all of them. Flamingos, lions, leopards, and monkeys were all up close against the glass/fences and interacting with the viewers, and all the animals seemed happy and very active. I've never been to another zoo where I was able to see such enormous regal creatures so up close and actually moving - maybe we came on a good day. Within the price of admission, you're able to go inside the kangaroo habitat to pet them and take photos and we paid extra for the private sloth encounter to feed them which was super cool as well. Definitely recommend - great place for kids and several things to do to fill up a full day. read more
