Flamingo Gardens is one of our favorite places in South Florida. Honestly, I'd even call it a peacock garden because there are so many of them wandering freely throughout the property. I especially love visiting during the winter months when the weather is cooler. It's the perfect time to slow down, enjoy the beautiful scenery, and have a little picnic with the kids. There are plenty of peaceful spots to sit, relax, and watch the peacocks walking around. The grounds are always clean, and the staff is friendly and welcoming. When you buy your tickets, you can also purchase bird food. We fed both the flamingos and the peacocks, and while it was a fun experience, here's my little tip--don't feed the peacocks from your hand unless you're ready for a pretty strong peck! I learned that one the hard way. There is also a small café, guided tram tours, and on weekends they often have live music, especially in the evenings or during holiday events. Around Christmas, the gardens are beautifully decorated with lights, making the whole place feel even more magical. If you're looking for a relaxing day surrounded by nature, Flamingo Gardens is definitely worth a visit. read more

Got there around 10 and was able to secure a scooter for my mother who recently had knee surgery. They said it was their last working one. We couldn't have done this park without it. The tram runs every thirty mins, definitely suggest taking that- learned all about the park via tour guide. Upon checking in, there are bags of animal food for purchase. So fun for the kids to engage with the flamingos etc. The animals who are roaming free aren't actually part of the garden, they are wild. So get ready to see some amazing ducks, flamingos and peacocks roaming around. We loved seeing all the different birds, alligators etc. read more

This is a great nature and animal attraction. Not a zoo but a non profit rescue and rehabilitation (and when possible, release) facility that is constantly evolving in its exhibits. The size is manageable for walking and the circulating tram provides a nice quick overview (and a bit of a rest). The paths are mostly shaded. The staff are truly dedicated to their mission. The wildlife encounters are informative and fun. The sculptures throughout are whimsically realistic. Everyone (except the cashier at the snack stand near the flamingos) was friendly and helpful. Free roaming peacocks and other critters make walking around even more fun. Give yourself at least 3 hours so you can see everything and time the educational presentations without being rushed. Things do run on schedule. It was not overly crowded at 2p on a weekday. Every fee was reasonable and we happily added a bit more to the donation boxes. A lot goes on behind the scenes in the care and feeding of the animals. They should somehow let the public see some of that-- I'm sure that would compel more donations!! "Yes, American flamingos are considered native to Florida. Though they were hunted to near-extinction by the early 20th century, new research confirms they are returning, with growing populations in the Everglades, Biscayne Bay, and the Florida Keys." My Yelp friend, who was recently in Mexico at a park there, took a lovely photo of the Flamingos there. I liked the photo & said; "Great photo, my favorite OuiOui!" He asked me if I had been to that park to see them. I told him I had, and I had seen them in many many different places & parks. However, it was my wish that they would come back to the Everglades. He wrote me back & said, "I didn't know they left." I was very surprised by this statement. I thought everyone knew that American Flamingos were native to Florida & they have been pretty much extinct since the early 1900's. In the early 1900's, flamingos in Florida were nearly hunted to extinction for their meat AND their pink feathers, which were highly valued as fashion accessories for hats and fans. La vie en rose OuiOui. "Historically, large flocks lived in South Florida, but they vanished around 1900 due to the plume trade." They were also over hunted for food as they are considered a delicacy. So is the Blue Heron & the Sandhill Crane. The Sandhill Crane is known as "the filet mignon of the sky." If you look in very old cook books you will find recipes for all these birds. Thankfully, they are now protected by the Migratory Bird Treaty Act (MBTA) of 1918. This law prohibits the hunting, killing, capturing, selling, or transportation of protected migratory birds without a federal permit. I love all the Flamingos, American Birds. I'm always traveling around trying to get photos of all of them, especially in the wild. I write about this all the time OuiOui. The best place to see the American Flamingos up close right now, is at Flamingo Gardens. Flamingo Gardens is a 60 acre botanical park that was built in an old Orange orchard. It's an incredible place filled with beautiful tropical plants & flowers. There are orchids everywhere, gorgeous tropical birds everywhere, it sounds like you're in a jungle when you're there. It's a truly magnificent, magical place OuiOui. I'm so thrilled that the American Flamingos are coming back to their native Florida. The recent storms blew some of them in, all up and down the east coast, from the keys to upstate NY. You can see some small groups of them in the wild right now, however, it will take some time for their flocks to multiply back to where they should be, as Flamingos reach maturity slowly (6-7 years) and typically lay only one egg per year. Loved an afternoon filled with rehab-release-rehome; this organization is fully sustained by the purchases of tickets as well as donations. An area lush with floral and history! Learn about how the land was cared for as well as the sacred lands of American Indians. You'll find the treasures and wonder of all the knowledge around to read and your guides who can share the stories too. It's so important to learn about the variety of animals that have been rehabbed to be able to be released again, but also the way of remaking homes for those who can not. They have a food spot right I the middle to quench hunger and thirst, a tram to drive you around the vastness and mobility scooters if you need to use for rent on site too. They have hundreds of unique trees, some of which are the largest trees of their species in Florida. This is home to some of the largest collections of naturalized orchids, cycads, and heliconias. They have over 3,000 species of rare & exotic, tropical, subtropical, and native plants and trees. The Wildlife Sanctuary which is a home to permanently injured or non-releasable Florida native wildlife. Some of these animals include alligators, bobcats, eagles, otters, panthers, peacock, and of course, flamingos! I have to say that the tram tour, is my favorite part of this place. It takes you around the property showing many of the unique plants and trees. If you like birds, you can also head into the aviary and walk around with birds that are free flying. All through the year Flamingo Gardens offer different events. One of the eagerly anticipated events is the Party in Pink. This is to raise money for Flamingo Gardens. They have food and drink vendors come in, they have a silent auction and so much more. I would highly recommend this event. It was a gorgeous day for our Valencia Sound Orchid Club to visit Flamingo Gardens today in Davie. This was my first time here. This is a wildlife sanctuary filled with amazing birds, peacocks, flamingos, as well as magnificent grounds filled with ancient trees of all varieties, orchids, succulents, cactus. We took a guided tram ride through the thick of it which was about a half hour and walked through a butterfly pavilion. There's live music and areas to sit. It's a photographer's paradise. I loved the serenity. I'm amazed at all the beauty surrounding us in the middle of all the new construction going on. Thank goodness the animals and plants have this sanctuary. read more

I enjoyed seeing an all of the orchids that were in bloom. Make sure to see the Wildlife encounter that takes place there times a day. They showcased a baby gator and an owl while I was there. Tonight Flamingo Gardens hosted the Hoffman's Chocolates Winter Wonderland extravaganza. Paid $24 to wonder through the tropical oasis with live birds in their cages surrounded by lit Christmas displays. Took about 45 minutes on foot to see everything. The two parking lots fill up quickly and recommend a later time slot unless you want a bunch of little kids running everywhere. They had a few food trucks but nothing spectacular. We've lived in Florida for 4 years and have heard about Flamingo gardens but never had the opportunity to visit. We decided to bring the kids here over the Christmas holiday season as the weather is much more comfortable for outdoor adventures activities. Today (12/29/25) was no exception. Flamingo gardens is a 60 acre wildlife and botanical sanctuary. If you have a few hours to kill, the $24 admission is worth it. It's a not for profit organization founded in 1927 and what started as an Orange grove, it's still going strong today evolving into a nature and wildlife preserve. Grounds are beautiful and there is a team that is included with admission. You can also feed the flamingos and buy flamingo food at ticketing for $1. Lions, Tigers and Bears, Oh My Well, no lions, tigers or bears but they do have an vast array of birds that you can observe closely through tropically covered walkable paths. Plenty of parking near the entrance and a large gift shop with tropical paradise merchandise. Been here at night for a Christmas festival where all the paths are lit up. FYI do not stand too long under the trees or risk white droppings. Went here today to get a quote for a party with fifty people. The party rep was not on property but the employee provided me with a pamphlet with an info phone number, only answering machine at this point. They have a 3000sq ft BBQ Pavilion also a smaller interior building. Wedding receptions up to 250 guests for $4000 for six hours. The only negative is outside catering is not allowed and difficult to contact the rep. read more

We have been here before, but it has been a while. And it was worth it to return. We went to see the new bear cubs. So cute. Took the tram ride and walked all over. The exhibits are always worth it and the gardens are peaceful. I am not a fan of crowds, but the gardens are so spread out despite there being a lot of people there, it didn't feel claustrophobic. Take the tram ride that comes every half hour, they will lead you through the botanical garden and bring you to the butterfly house. Flamingo Gardens is a historic landmark in my eyes. Growing up in Fort Lauderdale my family and I would take visitors to the gardens. It's a great experience if you love visiting sanctuaries and being able to see Peacocks and Flamingos close by. If you visit the area I highly recommend you go to take the tour. She was very thorough, patient, and knowledgeable with information on the animals and habitat. We saw all sorts of varieties of animals. Flamingo Gardens in Davie was our first excursion during our first visit to Florida on June 4, 2024. I put my AAA membership to use with the purchase of an online adult ticket ($19.20) and two child tickets ($13.60 each). The gardens were well-maintained and mostly clean. We picked up some random pieces of trash in various places. The favorite animals either homed in an enclosure or roaming free on the grounds included but were not limited to: Black bear, butterflies, (feral) cats, flamingos, ibis, iguanas, panther, & peacocks. There were beautiful murals near gallery which we skipped as it didn't seem like much. Two volunteer docents in the Wray Home Museum were delighted to share their insight pertaining to the history of the property. My daughters, ages 9 & 10, have been referring to this botanical garden and wildlife sanctuary as one of their favorite places during our Florida vacation. Highly recommend. read more

This place really is so much fun. First and foremost it's for all ages, young and old there's so much to do. But make sure you see if you can get a discount I used my AAA and got a discount so I was excited it doesn't cost much at all to get in and I was very happy with the price here. It's a sanctuary and a not for profit place all of the animals are there because they're injured or can't be put back in the wild- beware the animals roam freely which can be overwhelming at first but you get used to it. I seen so many peacocks and they were absolutely gorgeous! The animals pretty much go right up to you and they have so many cats just walking around so adorable. They have so much to do here, so many gardens, animals, they have animal encounters, they have educational talks, they have a tram, a museum, a place to eat and you can feed the flamingos. I feel like we didn't have enough time to do everything because we were on a time schedule but I would go back and do it all over again. OH and they and dinosaurs when I went! It was so relaxing. The trees and animals were beautiful. There's so much greenery. It's a self guided walking tour. And it's very wheelchair friendly as well. All the employees I encountered were very nice and the place was super clean. We sat and listened to Yesenia as she brought out a hawk and a snake. She educated us on these 2 animals and she allowed us to touch the snake ( I was terrified but I still ended up doing it). I enjoyed this and she was very kind and made me laugh, thank you Yesenia! You can also get some pretty decent food here. Of course it's just sandwiches and burgers but it was good. I got a chili hot dog and it was huge and my friend got nachos and cheese, also decent prices. And after that we paid 1.00 a bag to feed the flamingos which they go right up to you. I even was able to see some baby chicks and I fed them too this was so much fun. They will eat right from your hand if you allow it they're super greedy. Nothing more to say but I loved it the pictures will speak for themselves. I am for sure going back again so I can see it all this time and be able to ride the tram. read more

Perfect day to visit this beautiful sanctuary, Monday afternoon. No huge crowds to fight, gorgeous weather in mid-February. Saw lots of interesting birds up close, some would even walk up to you for food. But if you're going in the afternoon, don't bother paying a dollar for the bag of flamingo food. The flamingos won't eat it -- they're all full from being feed all morning long. None of them were interested in our handouts at all. And you're not supposed to feed the peacocks according to what was written on the bag of food. I think you can feed the other birds though. You may want to ask at the ticket counter. The live animal event featured a blind albino opossum and an teeny tiny owl on this day -- they have different animals on different days. This is not a zoo -- it's an animal rescue and sanctuary, so the talk they gave at the event centered around how they help the animals and what the public can do to help the animals. Education. Love that. Beautiful peacocks everywhere. The butterfly room wasn't as filled with butterflies as much as I've seen at other exhibits like the Milwaukee Public Museum, but maybe that depended on the time of year or something. Take the tram ride to see the whole park. When we went there were two huge gators in a smallish pen, perhaps they are waiting to be moved to another place where they can have more room, I'm not sure. The bear had unfortunately passed away, so was not on exhibit. But they had a puma cub that was new to the place, I think the sign said it was the very first day it was on exhibit so they were asking the public to be restrained a bit so as not to frighten it. We spent about 2-3 hours there and had a great time. read more

If you're in the area and have a few hours to while away, come in to relax and enjoy the thousands of specimens of plants, trees, flowers. Animals that have been rescued and in the process of rehabilitation are displayed throughout as well. Some that cannot return to the wild, have become permanent residents, including a Florida panther. Various talks about animals happen every couple of hours to educate you and provide context for your visit. There is a tram that gives a tour of the property and shows the expansion of what was once an orchard. About 20 of the 40 acre park are available to explore and you can easily spend 2-3 hours enjoying the quiet and peacefulness. If you're hungry there are a couple of options for some faire-Americana. And cool drinks and ice cream treats. As you enter and leave, there is an expansive gift shop that will help commemorate your visit. Well worth the $24- for adults and the $17 for kids. We went here the other evening to visit their holiday light set up. It was incredibly cute and our son enjoyed himself seeing the birds that were present. The smores section was a nice holiday touch. Try to go early if you're going because wow, the crowds were beyond by the time we were ready to leave. We kind of felt like we had to race out of there.
