Juni is the place to be! The location is very easy to get to and the people who work there are sweet and kind. Jenna L. cut my hair and styled it for me. She was quick, precise, and listened to everything I wanted. I have had Jenna cut my hair many times before, but the most recent cut was extremely cute and perfectly styled to my taste! I will be going back in about a month for some coloring and hopefully a brazilian blow out! I wouldn't trust anybody else! (PS I have virgin hair, never been colored!) My first time getting my hair permed. My hair is stick straight and never holds a curl with a curling iron, so I thought it would be fun to get some waves in my hair. I got a setting wave perm (less tightly curled than a digital perm) on just the ends of my hair. I showed Jennifer a picture of what I wanted and she matched the picture perfectly. HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE SALON! I was charged $230 for what supposed to be a Setting Wave Perm (their website says $200.) I showed Jennifer a picture of a loose, beachy wave hairstyle I wanted and she told me 3 times she can do it but she did not! Instead, she gave me a super tight jerry curl! I hate being lied to. And she pretends to speak English & she pretends to understand you but I really think after this she does not. She also spends way too much time on her cell phone and did not speak to me once throughout the 4-hr long ordeal to check on me. Even the staff speaks no English. HORRIBLE. This is a place for elderly Asian people...but their website doesn't show you that. LIES, LIES, LIES!!! Jennifer is the worst & if you have $230 to waste, this is the place to go. For a salon located in Oakland to charge so much is rediculous. Plus, they only shampoo after the cut. Nice and curteous people, but they should lower the price drastically. Not ever going back. I'm not satisfied with the hair cut and can't justify paying $35 plus tip for another one. read more

I read the reviews here on Yelp and decided it to come in for a cut. I've not cut my hair in months since moving to Alameda from Burlingame and must venture out to find a new salon. Unfortunately, my experience at Juni was as bad as it gets. It boils down to someone saying they understand what look you want to achieve and then giving you something else entirely. No matter what amount of guidance I offered, even with photos, it doesn't come close. I wanted a short, thickly-layered, mid-length bob. I got a flat bob that looks like a teardrop. Not at all flattering for an adult woman with career aspirations. My grade school daughter compared the results to a classmate --yep, I look like a prepubescent boy. I completely regret this choice. If you are in the position I was a day ago, deciding whether this is the salon for you: come to this salon if: 1) You are not trying to achieve a professional appearance. Does your work require you to convey ideas of any gravity? 2) If you can speak Korean. I really think it helps, since (I think it was) Jennifer didn't seem to get what I was trying to say. 3) If you are not trying to achieve a shorter cut. I saw the results posted here of longer styles and they all look fine. She used a straight edge razor on my straight hair, now my shine is gone, instead, it looks ratty. Ughh! Anyhow, if you decide this is the place for you, I hope your results turn out better. I can only grit my teeth while this monstrosity grows out. read more

Joy is great! I have fine, wavy sometimes curly hair (I am Caucasian) and it is a challenge to get a good cut. I discovered Juni Salon after passing by and then looking them up on Yelp. I use to see Eugene but she has returned to Korea. I tried Joy who is new to the salon. Joy is one of the three best hairdressers that I have ever had (the other two are located in Canada) and the only hairdresser that can somehow layer my fine wavy hair and still let it follow a natural pattern that works really well. Joy really listens (her English is excellent) and has a good eye for suggesting styles. She charges well bellow market. The salon has a very pleasant quiet un-rushed atmosphere. It would be nice if they offered additional services like scalp treatments (perhaps less popular in this economy) but maybe they can in the future (after reading this review). A real find. read more

Somewhere between being 1/ a tomboy and 2/ cheap, for about 6 years I just couldn't justify forking over $$$ to get my hair cut while having to pretend to be girly. I've been growing it out anyhow, and while I'm at work it's just tied up and out of my way... Then I turned 30 and realized that I needed to get back in touch with my Leo nature and take better care of my mane. Much research was done, and next thing I knew, I was sitting down with Eugene, freaking out. At first, I thought Eugene was waay too hip for words and high school nerd me started to make totally grown up (ahem) cool (be ready to duck in case of lightning) me even more nervous, but she made me totally comfortable. She took the time to figure out exactly what I wanted in my cut, didn't force anything on me, and left my hair with its natural wave, which made me super happy since every stylist I've ever been to - Asian or otherwise - has always tried to force my hair into the stick straightness they think Asian hair should be. Plus, the prices were totally reasonable! Before I left though, she asked how I take care of my wavy hair, and suggested I try the setting perm that Sisterchiquita described. I was so happy with Eugene so far, I decided to push my luck (after more research) - and it paid off! It was everything I'd read about and more. My hair pretty much looks exactly like it did before on my good hair days, but with much much less conditioning/deep conditioning/leave in conditioner/mousse/frizz ease/hoping/praying drama. It's wash, *one* product, air dry, and go, and my hair is consistently wavy and tamed, making it possible for me to keep my hair down so much more frequently. Plus, the setting perm didn't damage my hair at all (didn't notice a lot of breakage or semi-bleached hair), *and* it's actually a permanent perm. It doesn't start off super kinky so it can eventually relax into the curl/wave you want before it fades out completely. It is what it is, and will be just that until you re-perm it and / or cut it off. Me likee this new hair technology. So not only does Juni Salon manage to appeal to my cheap side, tomboy me is super pleased with this low maintenance hair. Hopefully, Juni is only the first of my many wise decisions in my 30's. read more

I found Juni Salon when I used to work in Oakland. I make the trip back there b/c other places I tried were not worth trying again. Jennifer is not just a superb hair stylist, she's an artist. I was there a week ago wanting a new look, and she did a fabulous job. The contemporary decor at Juni Salon has clean lines and makes the place feel airy, spacious and welcoming. There's a picture of Audrey Hepburn in the reception area - a sign of good taste. Orchids - another sign of good taste - are well-placed throughout the salon. When I was there last week, the owner herself washed my hair (twice) before applying conditioner. Although hair products are displayed on shelves, they've never pushed the products on me. I showed Jennifer a picture of the new look and she found other pictures to get a better idea. It turned out perfectly. I have not had a bad hair day since she cut and styled it. Having tried other salons, I attest that the price is excellent - $45 for a women's haircut. I have not found anyone at Jennifer's skill level at this rate or higher, definitely not lower. Sadly, I've paid much more for much worse haircuts. Best time to go is in the mornings. As with other salons, weekdays are less crowded, so you get better attention. read more

Finally found a stylist that knows how to style, cut and color Asian hair. More importantly, one that cuts bangs that look natural, not straight and bowl cut. Jennifer, the owner, took the time to consult and listen to the issues I have with my hair. After a cut, color and styling (2.5 hrs), I finally got what I've been unsuccessfully searching for with other stylists that I've tried. The final price tag was not cheap like your typical San Jose or So Cal Asian salons, but it was worth every penny. read more

I meant to write this review months ago. I believe my stylist's name was Jennifer (sorry I forgot!). I came in for a digital perm based on the reviews I read on yelp. The stylist evaluated my hair before I sat down for my perm. I have thick wavy hair (I'm Middle Eastern) but my hair was processed with a Japanese straightening perm. I was worried that the digital perm wouldn't work because my hair was permed straight and over processed. My stylist assured me that it would hold, I was skeptical but I trusted her. I'm so glad I did. At the end of the process I had big flowing curls/waves. I loved it. It wasn't the cheapest perm I've paid for but it was worth it. read more

Brothers, when you decide to take the leap of faith from puberty into adult-hood when it's okay to pay a little more to get a decent looking cut, come to Juni. (No more of that super-cuts bs) It's hard to find a spot that does guy hair right in the first place and they really do it right. They do it all, shampoo your hair, give you a cut, shampoo it again and if something feels off or a little more magician works needs to be added to perfect your cut, they'll do it. The amount of attention-to-detail is impressive. I've been coming here for the past 10 years and even though I've tried other places (i.e. on vacation and desperate for a cut), it just doesn't work. p.s. call ahead for an appointment, they're getting busy as they should. read more

During the Covid-19 pandemic, I had not cut my hair in months, and was, to put it lightly, I was not looking my best. What made the situation so much worse was that my usual barber was closed. I looked on Yelp for a new, temporary hair salon close to my location. I found Juni Salon, and was a little skeptical, because the reviews were not the best, but the location was convenient so I decided to check it out. The reviews were not that good, but I soon found a pattern; all of the bad reviews were at least a year ago, and positive reviews were from as recent as 2 weeks before my visit. This salon showed a pattern of steadily improving, and it seems to have excellent customer service by listening to feedback, and improving on their brand as a whole. I decided to give it a try, and Juni Salon shocked me. The interior was spacious and gave off a graceful feeling, yet at the same time warm and comforting. Jennifer greeted me kindly, and by the end of it, I was a new person, both physically and mentally. I looked and felt so much better about myself, and much more confident. Jennifer was so kind to me, and made sure that I looked as good as possible. I was floored by the excellent customer service and amazing work they do here at Juni Salon. I came on a Friday afternoon around 4pm without an appointment with cash and a couple pictures. One hour later, my hair is styled, smells great and looks like the pictures I brought. Great! Joy was very precise and careful with my hair and requested cut (shoulder length with textured choppy layers and longish sideswept bangs). I went in recently to get some layers and bangs, again, did not disappoint. She also took me as a walk-in. I had a digital perm done by Jennifer. She was very nice and answered all my questions with a smile. I liked how she also gave me a much needed bang trim before the perm. They said the perm could take up to 4 hrs but it only took about 3. :) Everyone is pleasant and they were patient over the phone when I was making an appointment. The salon is quite clean as well, and conveniently located across Gogi Time. Overall, I am happy with how my perm turned out and the price of $230 is not too bad since some places will charge $300. read more

I always get a really good cut here, but their coloring can never cover up my gray hair. I did the coloring twice and my gray hair was still gray. The rest of the color was nice though. So now I come here only for the hair cut. read more

Those who lack in time GO TO THE BOTTOM FOR SUMMARY I like professionals who are confident in and know about what they are doing. I met Jennifer Sack here. She was the opposite. She kept providing excuses every time she makes a mistake, blaming my hair quality. I wanted a long, dandy style. Now I have a really short and random hair cut. Definitely top 5 worst hairdo i have gotten. She was at least nice. But being nice doesn't get you professionality. If it was a barber where I pay 10 bucks, I wouldn't complain since that's what I had expected. People don't pay $35 for haircut expecting a bad job. SUMMARY: I'm pissed for paying $35 to get a malicious haircut from Jennifer Sack I recommend others places. Message me if you want to know where I had my best experience. Jennifer gave me my first cut at Juni Salon today. They are a 10-min walk from my office in Uptown Oakland. I'm a very satisfied customer. I asked for a cut that will give my hair volume but also subtle (not too much) layering at the bottom only. Surprisingly this seemingly simple request has baffled other stylists in the past. She gave me a great cut that's exactly what I wanted. The layering is in the bottom 6 inches only, and beautifully structured, but not too wild. For this I give her 4 stars. The fifth star is for the totally fun conversation we had. She and I are the same age and have similar family situation. So, we talked about our kids and family travels and the San Francisco public school lottery system and I didn't need to look at magazines or pull out my phone once. I took my 13 year old daughter to Juni Salon to get her hair colored. She had a color in mind but since this was her first time getting her hair colored, she didn't understand that the color doesn't always come out as she saw on a picture. She waited until they were completely done with her hair, including drying then told me that she wasn't happy with her hair color. Jennifer noticed that my daughter wasn't happy with it and patiently talked to her and tested 4 different colors on her hair to have her choose the color that she was satisfied and re-did her whole hair.
