Most of the good salons were booked already and I'm so happy when Elvia hooked me up with one of her colleagues, Jeannine, who came in on her day off. Another perk- it's only a 5 minute walk from my apartment! Jeannine was so awesome from the get go- super nice, down to earth, and a skillful stylist. I felt like she was one of my homegirls! My hair is super thick and coarse so it took almost 3 hours to complete the treatment. Jeannine was able to give me a beautiful honey caramel color and some beach waves to set me up for my trip. My hair stylist was Antionette, who did a great job on my very very straight Asian hair. I wanted a partial up do with waves, and she gave me just that. Very kind and easy going... No push to buy products or additional services which was a relief. Very pleased with their service, and didn't feel like they were rushing me since I was getting a free up-do. Woo hoo, my first, first review! Anyway, I was looking to try a new salon and Skye carries Bumble and Bumble (major cred points in my book). I made an appointment with one of their new stylists, Jessica, and when I arrived she immediately put me at ease with her calm, open, and friendly demeanor. I felt like she totally focused on what my hair was currently like, what I was looking to do with it, as well as how the eventual cut would grow out. It's always that balance with stylists - feeling like they listen to you but are also able to apply their intuition to give you results that you can work with and that look really good. With me, stylists usually err on the side of being too conservative, I can totally handle a good splash of funky. Jessica did just that. We did a cut and color and I'm really loving it. The search is over. As a latina with thick, curly, and often frizzy and just dry hair, I had just about given up on the possibility that I too could have thick, silky, shiny, healthy looking hair. And then, just like that, I find Elvia at Skye Salon. She is literally around the block, and here I've been searching high and low for someone who just gets my hair! The first clue that this woman is in demand was that this week and next week were almost completely booked, but she really worked with me to fit me in and was totally accommodating with my crazy schedule. She didn't rush me, didn't put on the pressure and didn't take a credit card to secure the appointment which was in less than 24 hours after I booked it. I showed up right at 3:30 for my appointment and she was ready for me, very warm and listened carefully to my short but nonetheless critical hair conversation. She recommended a course of action to get me from my black hair to something softer, warmer and not so high maintenance. She washed my greasy, over processed and over producted (is that a word?) hair until she managed to get the layers of build-up out of it. I haven't felt my natural hair in years. She trimmed it in a sassy cut, then proceeded to show me, step by step HOW TO STYLE MY HAIR. Yes, it was awesome! And the product lines from Bumble and Bumble are definitely part of the experience. She didn't push any products, instead showed me what she used in my hair and helped me prioritize which products to try, explained step by step what they do and essentially turned my world upside down about how to treat my hair. Overall, an education and a pleasant one done with lots of warmth, listening, helpful tips and a nice glass of wine. Perfection. And did I mention that I paid less than what I've paid just down the street with half the service, attention and no wine? The search is over. read more

Let me start off by saying, I'm completely nuts for Antionette. I'm from out of town but travel to the bay area regulary for work. One time I decided to get a hair cut and color while I was in town. This salon was nearby where I was staying and had good reviews online, so I made an appt with Antionette. She gave me a new fresh look, new color, and a really great cut. She also beautifully styled my hair afterwards. She was so sweet to me. It was the best hair salon visit ever. I now only have my hair touched up when I am in town. Thankfully, that is often enough. I came in to see Elvia for her expertise in curly hair, which my thick hair is covered in. The moment she began to explain to me about my curls I knew she was a master of curly hair. I was sooo impressed! She dry cut my curly hair, which I appreciated and loved. It is really hard to cut curly hair wet, since the stylist can't see what the curls are doing otherwise. After my curls were cut to meticulous perfection, she washed my hair and styled my curls like I had never seen them styled before. I walked out of her salon with bouncy, beautiful curls all around. I arrive at Skye feeling just fine, but always leave feeling great! Elvia (the owner and stylist) is wonderful - highly skilled and attentive, and a master of making customers feel comfortable. I don't feel like I have to try and keep up small talk - I can just relax and enjoy being taken care of. :) Also, Elvia is very good at actively listening to me to understand what I want, while also recommending what would look good. Great combination of intuition and communication - it leaves me with a cut I'm consistently happy with (and one that grows out well too). I also have really come to appreciate Bumble & Bumble shampoo and conditioner. It's more expensive than store brands, and really worth it. My hair is much more healthy and manageable now that I use it. (By the way, the stylists at Skye aren't pushy in selling B&B, so that's nice too. No pressure to buy products in addition to your hair cut). All this, and a lovely atmosphere too. I enjoy getting to my appointments a few minutes early to relax and enjoy their magazines. The cut is about $53 (for long hair) - very worth it - but I always spend more because I want to leave a good tip for the wonderful service and great experience at Skye. She gave me a keratin treatment and it was the very best I've ever had and I've tried many stylists in my search for the perfect keratin/Brazillian Blowout treatment. I'm expert on what's good and Pheakdey is GREAT...she's simply the best. Here's what I liked: 1. She is mindful of the product she uses. NEVER have a I had a keratin or Brazilian Blowout where my eyes or nose weren't effected AT ALL. Some times have been worse than others, but with Pheakdey there was no product steaming off and affecting me. She pays attention to product and health. 2. Pheakdey was VERY thorough in applying the product. Every stylist and product has a slightly different process and Pheakdey took steps I've never seen taken before. 3. The finished product is WONDERFUL. My hair is so silky and I've gotten compliments. I was at an event the other night and a friend said he'd never seen my hair so shiny....it was like dialogue strait out of a hair commercial. 4. Pheakdey is very stylish. This is the second hair transformation I have had courtesy of Elvia. The first - I came in with overgrown, faded, badly-self-cut short red hair, and within 90 minutes, I left looking AMAZING - sexy, sassy, modern cut, easy to care for, not too over styled, a beautiful shade of scarlet red with violet-red lowlights. I got compliments for weeks. Then I got incredibly busy and of course my hair suffered... I did a box copper color, left it on too long and trimmed my bangs myself in an effort to tame the wild beast... unfortunately the copper started to fade into the strangest orange, and now I had a half inch of dark roots... faded, uneven, shaggy, impossible to style... I knew I had to see Elvia again! In just a couple hours, she took that nasty orange mess and turned it into the perfect shade of strawberry blonde, with blonde highlights perfectly placed, just like the picture of Mary Kate Olsen I brought (I know a bit about hair and color chemistry, and that was NOT an easy transformation!) Another sassy, sexy cut, a little different than the first but just as gorgeous! Got two compliments just on the BART ride home. I made a mistake a few weeks ago that reaffirmed that I will continue going to Skye Salon for my haircuts. I'm a guy and one would think it's easy to cut. I usually sit down and say, "Make it shorter." Nothing complicated. I had been going to Skye Salon for nearly a couple of years now but I had an event and needed one of those emergency haircuts. I went to a Supercuts and it was a disaster. The guy who cut my hair Hasslehoffed my hair. (Think of what David Hasslehoff did to that burger and you'll know what I mean.) I sat there watching the work in progress but it was too late. The damage had been done. 15 minutes later he asked if it was okay and I said yes, I just had to get out of there with what I had. Hopefully it could be salvaged. I literally stepped out of the door and called Noemi at Skye Salon. Noemi has been cutting my hair for over two years and I regret that I allowed someone else but her to touch my hair. She fixed it up and I felt like a new man. Noemi is experienced and she knows what she is doing. She is flexible and does everything to make sure you are happy. As for the salon, it has a very nice environment, it's nicely decorated, and they are always playing great music. I like to sit there and chat, sipping on my wine. Parking can be tricky since it is on Piedmont, but one can always find a spot. And like I said, it's Piedmont, so the walk is nice. Everyone who works there are always nice. I walk in and everyone smiles and greets me and it's the same on the way out. My girlfriend visited and she's extremely particular about where she gets her hair cut. She's now planning on visiting Noemi and the rest of the gang at Skye salon as well. I highly recommend getting a haircut here. read more

Elvia is a Cuf ly Girl thus knows how to cut, style, and care for culy hair (rare)! I went to Elvia about 2 months ago and had an excellent experience. She cut my hair short and shaped it well. She was helpful in giving me tips on how to deal with it. I thought I had found my new stylist. Earlier this week I returned asking for a trim and received a very different experience than before. She didn't remember me, which is totally fine, but then she didn't take the time to get a feel for my hair before she started. The cut was hurried and sloppy. I'm quite disappointed. Truth of the matter is, I would follow Noemi (Longoria) anywhere for a haircut. I used to live about 3 miles from where she worked, and that's how I met her...it was convenient. Now I'm about a 35 minute drive away from her and I would drive three times as far for her skills! She's a fantastic gal, with a sparkling personality, and every time I leave there I look like a zillion bucks and feel like I've been through a spa treatment. I'm sure the other stylists there are amazing, as well, but I wouldn't dream of going to anyone else. You know how when you go to get your haircut and you know what you wish it would look like, but you're not really good at putting that description into words? Noemi has a way of reading your thoughts and giving you exactly what you were hoping for, even if you didn't say it. She's a miracle.
