I was so impressed with my visit here a few days ago. I called last minute hoping that there was any openings within the next 2 weeks for a bleach and tone and cut. They just had a cancellation and said they could take me in 2 hours. I am very picky about my hair as I have baby fine hair that any accidental cut can lead to a bald spot. So, I found this gem when my hair got botched at a Supercuts. I was the type of girl with long hair that only get their haircut once a year. Never was an issue until IT BECAME AN ISSUE. Jasper saved me the 1st time in correcting my haircut while hanging on to as much length as possible and I was forever grateful! I have had amazing experiences with some of the stylists but I got paired up with different one than usual. I asked for layers and face framing and for the length to stay the same and I walked out with bangs, 3 inches taken off, and choppy layers. If you get Susan, do not get your hair cut here. She doesn't know what she is doing and will genuinely ruin your hair. I am surprised she even works there. They didn't offer to fix it or anything, I just left in tears. My hair is completely ruined. My hair has been long past due for some attention, and the person who normally helps me color and maintain is out of commission for health reasons. I looked up L'amor salon, and was hoping based on all the reviews and pictures they would be able to help bring my hair back to life. And boy, did they serve! Brian was my hair stylist. You can tell he has been in the business for a while and knows his craft well. I will admit I don't take care of my hair the way that I should, plus I was unable to help give him an idea of what my hair has truly been through, bleach and dye wise. That did not deter him in anyway! He looked at the sample photos I had in mind, assessed my hair, and let me know what he thought would be realistic without further damaging my hair. I really appreciated honesty as opposed to fake optimism. He helped even out all my different toned highlights (there were a lot), managed the frizz, and gave it a beautiful cut and quick curl. He even added a different color since I mentioned I prefer less of a yellow blonde, and made it more of a silver tone, which made my hair even more beautiful than I was expecting to walk out with. In the end, we were both amazingly surprised! Even a week later, it's holding up beautifully and I can't help but sneak a peek at myself in the mirror. Personality wise, this is the salon experience I am always looking for. He was friendly and approachable, got to know me and asked questions, but not too talkative. He was able to read the room when I started to lose my social battery. I've encountered a lot of stylists who feel the need to chitchat the whole time through, but as a more introverted personality, I definitely appreciate some quiet time. I brought a swatch of chocolate brown hair color, mentioning that it was the color of my hair extensions, and I wanted to match it and requested "money pieces" in the front. My highlighted blonde hair had a color glaze that, when I removed it, temporarily turned green. I clarified that it wasn't due to green dye.The stylist, who appeared inexperienced as she frequently sought guidance from another stylist, initially dyed my hair, resulting in a faded brown color with lingering green undertones. She saw this but didn't attempt to fix it even though I mentioned multiple times I wanted a chocolate brown. I had to ask her to mix in more of a warmer tone since the color looked very neutral and to apply it again because it looked faded. The final result was far from the desired chocolate brown I had brought a sample of; it looked closer to black and did not match my expensive hair extensions. In addition, the 'money pieces' she did ended up turning out orange on top and an odd blonde tone elsewhere. I mentioned my concern, and she didn't make an initiative to fixing it until I asked her to. I didn't want to walk out with orange highlights and black hair. It was not what I wanted. When I pointed out these issues, the stylist seemed annoyed. I also requested 'curtain bangs,' a specific type of bangs that the stylist was aware of, but it appeared that the stylist only trimmed my ends, completely ignoring my request. I asked the stylist to fix my hair and explained what needed to be done, but I was disappointed with the results. Despite my dissatisfaction, the salon charged me $375 for the subpar service. When I raised my concerns, they insisted on the price, and I ended up paying an excessive amount for an unsatisfactory result. To make matters worse, I had to spend an additional $100 on toner and hair dye from the beauty supply store to try and fix the issue myself. I don't mind paying for the time the junior stylist spent on my hair, but the amount I was charged was highly excessive for a color result that I ended up fixing on my own. read more

Due to re-locating, I was looking for someone new. Brian cut my hair 3-4 inches shorter and flat. When I looked in the mirror I was shocked at this independent cut. So, I spoke up. I said, this is a nice cut, but nothing like what I asked for. He asked me to pull up the photos. The stylist next to us looked over my shoulder and made a 'whoa' face, non-verbally agreeing that he took it far in another direction. So I said, you just did your own thing and that's not okay. He said sorry in an okay-fine-you-caught-me kind of way and said I didn't have to pay. I told him it'd take months to grow back and that it was my hair. It actually took over a year. I found an amazing person who used the same photos as reference. L'amor Salon is located near Lake Merritt on a busier street, parking is street parking or if you do not mind walking a bit - there is some parking in the residential area around the corner. I am selective about who does my hair because of some bad experiences in the past who always seem to mess up my hair, either with the color or cut. Unlike other salons where you can make 1 appointment to get your hair colored/done, they require a consultation in person first, so that is 2 separate visits, which is a bit of an inconvenience that I have to drive back and forth. I had Kathy once before, so I wanted to book with her, but she was all booked up/off, especially on the days I was looking for. Anyway, I had Diane and at first I was a bit skeptical, but she did a good job on my hair. I was looking for more blonde gray (no cut), but my hair was already very brassy/orange-yellow, so Diane did not make any promises and told me she will do her best. She was kind of quiet, but she seem to be informative/knowledgeable when I asked her multiple questions about my hair and product recommendations. Overall, my hair did not turn out exactly as I wanted it, but I thought she did a good job and I am satisfied with the results - it is nice to have a stylist who actually listens to you when you tell them you do not want to cut your hair, and does not try to force you or try to trim it anyway, so props to Diane. read more

Ladies and gents- L'amor is open for business! It's been way too long since my tresses got some love and trust me when I say that my mane was getting pretty Medusa-like. I've gotten my hair done here twice and loved it both times. The first time was with Susan for a haircut and highlights and my most recent time was with Kathy for a haircut and balayage. Both ladies were really sweet and professional. Environment had an air purifier, masks were required and clients were socially distanced. I communicated my highlights request to Kathy and she recommended a brown balayage for a more natural look, which I was going for. Kathy expertly cut, thinned and did all of the balayage magic, washed, dried, and loosely curled my hair. The whole process took about 3 hours and the total came to $250 ($60 for haircut and $190 for balayage.). It's pretty steep but the expertise, products and TLC that went into the experience was worth it. Plus my crazy long thick hair was way overdue for some pampering! The outcome was beautiful- my hair felt lighter, healthier, had a more natural color and bounce. Highly recommend Kathy for your haircut and balayage needs- she is a wizard with scissors! read more

I am so blessed to color my hair with Kathy! After many disappointing sessions at other very overpriced salons I came here after a great haircut experience. Asian hair is super hard to color correctly and I have jet black strands which most stylists cannot do correctly. Kathy is a true coloring master who fixed my previous jacked up dye job. The other person left my hair in a very disastrous state and Kathy had quite a job ahead of her! She managed to fix the brassiness and damage from the other stylist and blend it in with my roots into a beautiful ashy mushroom brown shade with lots of subtle dimension. I loved it so much it was a no brainer to return to her for my touch up. Just as before she nailed my request and got me exactly what I was looking for. I was outta there in 3 hours which is the shortest touch up session I've ever experienced. The cost was very reasonable compared to other salons. Went here to get balayage done for the first time. I got a warm brown tone on my black hair. If you're a first time customer, they require a deposit of $100 which will go towards the final balance. You will be asked to venmo one of the stylists. Parking is street parking and it's only a max of two hours so if your appointment is longer than that, you'll have to keep refilling the meter. I have long black hair and my appt took about 3.5 hours. If you're doing hair color like that, appointments have to start in the morning. The interior is really nice and the seats were comfortable. Staff was friendly and attentive to my needs and request. I provided inspo pics and thought she did well. I unfortunately did not get her name. My hair cost about $300 while my sisters was about $525 and she did bleach + pink hair color. You can get a discount if you pay cash or venmo. My sister's appointment took about 5 hours. I love Susan at this salon! I've been going for at least 5 years and from the beginning, Susan has been an awesome partner and transformed my hair from a boring black to an amazing balayage. She's toned, cut, and highlighted my hair through the years. Below is my last visit a week ago. What I love about Susan is that she listens, is respectful and honest about what will work and what won't. I've never had a desire to go super light but I know she'll tell me it will be high maintenance and will damage my hair. I can come in with photos and Susan will tell me if it will work and if it won't. I completely trust her judgment. She also gives me pointers on how to keep my hair healthy.
