My wife and I are trying to eliminate wasteful spending in our retirement and discussed getting rid of stuff we no longer use or need. You probably don't have my exact problem, but something in the same hemisphere. Back in 2010, we used to live in a bigger house, but moved to San Diego to pursue a job. I'm part of the working class, so in order for me to quickly live in San Diego and get my family settled, we rented an apartment, which was tiny compared to the house we came from. The majority of our stuff had to be put into storage. In 2015, we were able to move into a house that was still smaller than our previous house, but at least our new house had a garage and we were able to move our stuff out of storage. Unfortunately, not everything fit into my garage, so some of our big items were kept in the front patio area making our house look like it was from Sanford and Son. The sad thing about storing a television and sofa in our front patio is that they were exposed to the outside and the weather. Our nice television and sofa became junk. For the longest time, I kept saying that I would donate these items to the Salvation Army or Goodwill. I'm sure I could have arranged for these entities to pick these items up and I would have garnered a nice tax break. You always have good intentions, but life happens. What once were nice items that could have been donated and been given a decent home on the cheap was now a worthless pile of junk. Obviously, these charities wouldn't take junk, so I kept putting off discarding these items because I didn't know how to go about doing it and I didn't want to have to pay someone to take these items. Thank God I've got a wifey who pushes me and encouraged me to research companies who specialize in picking up junk. Junk Fairy is one of these companies. My research encompassed looking up these companies on Yelp. Many of these companies have high ratings and good reviews. What's really cool about Yelp is that each of these businesses have the option to request a quote. Once you request a quote, several related companies will reach out to you via Yelp or on your email with quotes for their companies. I decided upon Junk Fairy because they were the most affordable. $125 for two large items was on the low end compared to the other companies. Junk Fairy is very professional. Not only did they communicate with me via email, they also reached out to me via text. I communicated with AJ, who was professional and responsive. Junk Fairy was quick to schedule an appointment and kept me posted on each step. As for payment options, they are very flexible. You can leave a check for them, you can pay using Venmo or PayPal, or they'll invoice you and you pay via card. I chose the latter option and it was seamless. Junk Fairy scheduled a 1pm pickup time, but picked my items earlier than that. The area in front of my house where they picked it up from was swept and made to look like I didn't have anything there. I was really satisfied with my experience with Junk Fairy. Thank you so much Junk Fairy for making our front patio look presentable again. Sanford and Son is no longer in business thanks to you. We hired these guys last weekend to help us move out of our house, and we're so glad we did! I've lived there for the past 4 years and had ~10 different people live in the house at different times, and everyone left behind TONS of stuff. We were originally going to try to throw everything out / donate everything ourselves, but after seeing the mountain of junk we had to wade through, we decided to hire professionals. We scheduled a last minute pick-up for a Saturday morning, and they arrived right on time and were in and out in under an hour.
